New Subutex Laws (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone.
Well since everyone on here seems to have the answers or know exactly what to do tell me what should I do just call off work for 2 weeks while I go through withdrawal or chance going to work going through it, or pay the 500$ for the Suboxone prescription? Mind that my job won't be there if I take more than 2 days & that it is Monday & I am into my 2nd day without medication.
first, sounds like you CANT take two weeks off or you will lose your job. so is that even an option? second, why is your suboxone prescription $500? is that for a month? im confused. if you are detoxing off of opiates, imho it would be best to get on suboxone, if thats possible. with my level of addiction, i wouldnt be able to work while in withdrawal. if you can, more power to ya.
Ya I had 2 cop & call my doctor to switch the script to suboxone but they can't see me until next week, Tuesday so I'm still screwed for a week. Just a pain in the ass all around
Hey Jim, I would think that being an LPN and also having your BA in psychology you would know the difference between subutex and suboxone, right? Oh and I would also think someone as educated as you obviously are would get their facts straight before they made themself look like a pompous, self-righteous jerk off that you obviously are. But I just think you're full of crap. Have a nice day.
SKIP: Yes, the jails are a joke. When they take you into custody, they are agreeing to "care" for you, which includes medically. Yet they have corrections officers making medical decisions for people. Now, if you are only doing illegal drugs, I can understand them not doing much. BUT....if a person is on a medically prescribed ORT (opiate replacement therapy) then the fact that they just let you go cold turkey is nothing short of CRIMINAL. My husband works in the Colorado State Senate, and they are working on a bill to make the jails keep people on WHATEVER they are already on as prescribed by a doctor. This would include methadone and buprenorphine. I went to jail over what turned out to be a complete mix up, when I was on Subutex. They didn't give a damn. It was on a Friday night, and I couldn't even get arraigned until Monday. So for the whole weekend I had NOTHING. I was prescribed Subutex by a doctor, but they didn't give a damn. This bill would make ANY and ALL medications prescribed by a doctor a requirement. The jails would be required to continue giving the person whatever they are already on. Jails should not be making medical decisions for people, ESPECIALLY deciding NOT to give them meds they are prescribed currently. I mean, if someone was on insulin, would they just NOT give that to someone? Of course not. But because the person is on something meant to treat addiction, they just say "screw it", as if it isn't medically necessary. Which is absolutely LUDICROUS.
Mary, what does your prescription say it is for? You need to get a copy of your medical records and read them. That way you will know what your dr has written in your medical records. A dr isn't going to prescribe a med that is used to treat drug addiction without the patient telling him that they are addicted to opiates. What is the reason that you started seeing this dr? Surely you know if your told him you were addicted to opiates or if you told him that you have chronic pain? With chronic pain, you would need diagnostic results that show that there is a medical reason for you to be prescribed this med. Although if you have a history of addiction, diagnostic results won't matter.
I'd say being a man is admitting you have a problem and seeking help, don't listen to that guys bull s***. He ain't been through it or he would have more compassion for all people going through tough times. A real man also DONT KICK A MAN WHEN HE'S DOWN AND TRYING TO GET BACK UP. For an answer for you, I just got put on subutex and I wanted suboxone so I don't know if the law is true or not.
Wow. For someone that is supposedly so educated as an LPN and what was the other a paralegal oh and let's not all forget the BS (oops) I mean the BA in phychology. Do you work much? Wondering how you could ever hold a job as a nurse with the lovely attitude you have towards others?Oh...I get it ..you will have to forgive me for being so slow I'm one of them. You know ( Addicts).
Mary, taking opiates if you're taking or have recently taken Suboxone will put you into withdrawals. Subutex does not contain the same active ingredients that Suboxone does.
kkh, I phrased it wrong. Suboxone and Subutex both contain buprenorphine, but Suboxone also contains Naloxone. Suboxone and Subutex are not the same drug because they are not identical in their active ingredients.
kkh , I agree with you about the wrong info. I think that Mary got the two drugs mixed up. But, I hope that noone believe what she wrote and tries it.
You don't know how it feels goin without ur meds so mind ur own business
Which Michael are you talking about. I have never claimed to be a LPN and have no idea what you are taking about.
Jim,
Must you say anything at all. It's better to keep your mouth shut and be THOUGHT a fool rather than opening your mouth and removing all doubts. As far as I can tell you have nothing positive to say here so why be the antagonist? This site is a very crucial tool to people who have chronic pain. I don't know your story or why you come here just to run people down. I've had 3 back surgeries and suffer from a host of other medical conditions. My Dr of 32+ years retired last year and I moved to GA. The laws from state to state are so different it's hard to make an adjustment without getting some kind of help. This website was so helpful in helping me find a reputable physician and also a highly recommended orthopedic surgeon. So just because some people are drug addicts and bring down the consternation of many on the few, we are not all drug addicts. Just like there are many people who post comments on this wall doesn't make them all an ass just because you are one and you post comments on this wall.
STELLA: Actually, it's pretty difficult to abuse either drug. The only reason Naloxone is in Suboxone is to keep people from injecting the Bupe. Otherwise they are basically the same drug. And anyone with a legit opioid addiction isn't going to get the least bit high off of Bupe.
Naloxone is not absorbed by the body very well when taken sublingually; we are talking less than 10% percent availability. BUT... it doesn't take much Naloxone to cause an adverse reaction. It says that I am allergic to Naloxone in my medical file, so fortunately I was only on that horrible drug less than 10 days. But it was certainly a miserable 10 days. I have migraines and chronic nausea already, and the Naloxone made both of those SO much worse, to the point of not even being able to FUNCTION. You may want to go to the emergency room with a "bad reaction", if you know what I'm saying. See if you can get documentation stating that you just can not tolerate Naloxone. Good luck to you, I know EXACTLY what you're going through with that drug.
kkh,
If people are doing this just to "have air time" it's sad. I could be wrong on the time line here, I started reading, learning and asking questions on here about 2 or so years ago. I've always tried to give only my opinions about what I have experienced while taking my prescribed subutex. I at one time was taking up to 20 pain pills daily, this medication saved my life, saved my family and gave me back my dignity. I'm a proud woman in the most humble way, and so wish everyone here or anyone out there would take this site very serious. I've been bashed, called an *****, stupid etc many times..but never have I meant any harm nor leave information that was nothing other then fact, (from my experience). So, in saying all this, what you are saying is True! Don't just come on here just to have conversation, or talk stupid crap. I, like many others really need these people here, and if any are or were like myself...I was a walking mess. I couldn't have got this far without many of you, and omg, I had so many unanswered questions. Thank you all who helped me get this far, and thank you for listening to me even when you may have thought I had no idea what I was saying..lol I'm now 3 years clean, not but one time did I have a mishap..but it happened and not again since. I've never felt better! I am doing just fine with taking as little as 1 to 2 MG of subutex a day, works just fine for me. The scary thing now is, I told my doctor Tuesday I'm ready to ween off subutex, I'm scared to death..lol I have no idea what I will go thru or feel. I just hope I'm making the right choice you all! I do know that in the few months to come, I might need someone here in this chat. OK, that's enough of my babble..I hope you all have a great rest of the week and a good weekend ahead!
Mary my reply was actually for you. I went back and was read it again and noticed said kkh at the top of the post but you were the one that posted it not kkh.
He straight lied im currently taking it. He felt uncomfortable with you taking this version due to no naloxone and it just being straight buprenorphine.
you sir are a good person. Everyone thinks that if you are on subs or tex that you are a dumb junkie, every day of my life is filled with back pain and every kind of headache known to man.
Jim, are u joking? Lol such a wide variety u need all that education to sit and make ignorant comments online do you?
