New Subutex Laws (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

I went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone.

This is sad, damned if you do and damned if you don't!! Ppl like James, jay, Jim, whatever his name is, will spend their lives judging others, putting them down, and working hard to make them feel less than human, mainly to make himself feel better about his own life! What it is, is Jimmy jam has, more than likely, successfully detoxed from his alcoholism, maybe after a year of binge drinking, and feels like he is a real man now. In order to continue feeling his sense of superiority he needs to continually bash others who he feels may have a more difficult rehabilitation process. When, in fact, any addiction; from a chocolate addiction to opiate addiction, is a battle! Yes, opiate addiction changes the chemical reactions and responses in an addicts body and brain, but most addictions do that. The difference is that in an opiate addicts brain those receptors have been "out of commission" for so long they forget how to work after a while. One of the first things I learned when I first started Nursing school was the traits of a successful RN, and the main traits were empathy, compassion, and tolerance. If you don't have those, or at the very least empathy, you will end up a mediocre RN, who will not advance or succeed. My guess is Jimmy jam's career is pretty stagnate and he has not held a permanent position in any medical facility. I only speculate because he has made it clear he is ok speculating and judging others. Good luck to all who are battling addiction, it's not an easy path, but it is a rewarding one!!

TIFFANYRN: I'm thinking "Jim" most likely didn't get enough attention from his mommy, so now he seeks out the attention of strangers on the internet. That or he has such glaring issues of his own that this is all just "deflection". Or, likely BOTH. I've taken a couple psych classes in my day, so I have this jerk figured out. But it certainly doesn't take a psych degree to see that "Jim" very clearly has some issues. Why would someone PURPOSELY seek out a forum about addiction, just to insult addicts? I mean, how sad is that? I wonder what is so lacking in "Jim", that THIS is where he finds his self-esteem? THIS is what he does with his time? Poor thing. There will always be pathetic losers like "Jim" in the world who focus on the problems of others in order to minimize their OWN issues, and they will always come off as pathetic and desperate little men. No one is fooled by your idiotic bluster "Jim"... NO ONE.

@Jim, do you usually answer questions on subjects you know absolutely nothing about? No, they are not the same, so you don't know what you're talking about, nor did you even listen to the question. You're too busy being a judgemental ass because you are obviously a perfect human who has never made a mistake, which gives you the right to place judgment on others apparently. You also must have such important opinions, since you assume people are interested in hearing them. Subutex doesn't contain naloxone but suboxone does, and many people suffer from allergies and sensitivities to the naloxan, making it difficult or impossible to take suboxone. New laws say Subutex can only be prescribed to a pregnant women, so those who aren't pregnant and who can't take naloxone need to take Subutex instead of suboxone to keep allergic and adverse reactions from occurring. The question was about the limitations on prescribing Subutex, which you obviously didn't understand. You must be of a high intellect for trying to down someone who has sought treatment for addiction and who is trying to better themselves. May I ask how you are so familiar with the subject?

Stevo my doctor is in Johnson City Tennessee. Two or three of my friends also go to different doctors in the area and have been told the same. I wish it was just the suboxone reps that are making them swap everyone. I was able to find a news report from back in January on the WJHL News Channel 11 website talking about laws that they were going to trying get passed this year and this was one of them. I guess they were able to get it passed.

Ok I posted a link to the bill itself. but if you read the rules to posting on medchat it says that you cant post links to other websites without them approving it. if you want just search the addiction treatment act of 2015 and you will find info on it.

I had heard rumors about the new law but didn't believe it until I went to the doctor. I have been on subutex for 3 years and 3 months away from completing my program. I am far enough along so it will not be as hard for me, but feel really bad for the newer patients. Suboxone is far more expensive than subutex, the naxolone is hard on the body and the taste is one of the most disgusting things imaginable. It will completely ruin citrus for the patients. This is entirely based on money...is it just me or does someone have a monopoly on the opiate addiction market?

If you are so educated, it seems like you would have enough sense to know that addiction is an illness....He's not an addict because he enjoys it or because he doesn't have motivation to do better in life. NO ONE wants to be an addict. The only choice you have as an addict is to get help...which he seems to be doing. You're obviously very judgmental on a subject you know nothing about.

Lol, your comments don't bother me. I just can't believe how stupid you really are....considering that you are in the medical field.

The naloxone own thing is a myth. The company that makes it is from my home state. Since buprenorphine is a agonist antagonist by itself they had to admit the buprenorphine itself binds more than the naloxone. it's just a scam for them to make money and doesn't make people dependent on agonist/antagonist. You will have more withdrawal symptoms now if u are first switching from a pure agonist or have an impaired hepatic system. The naloxone will make u more sick cause the buprenorphine packet that comes with suboxones says your liver doubles the amount of naloxone. So basically if u already on a mixed agonist/antagonist u could take either one for the same result unless u are super sensitive. What's gonna happen to me, I'm very sensitive to naloxone and have hepatitis c so I can't take suboxone. I've finally been two years off pain medicine. Since my neurologist retired I was on 140mgs methadone and for break through pain oxycodone 30 mg immediate release three times a day; so 90 pills and 90 hydrocodones 10 mg 325 Tylenol that I didn't take cause of liver. So now that I have a daughter to take care of they want me back on medication that kept me in a coma, no way! Buprenorphine 8mgs twice a day kills my pain just as well. .25 mg of buprenorphine is the equal of 10 mgs of morphine. This is crap and for people that belive the naloxone bull are going to mess it up for pain patients. Yes I'm opiate dependent but not an addict cause I wasn't abusing what my doctor had me on but my Benzodiazepines doctor who I see for anxiety attention deficit hyper activity disorder and anxiety and panic attacks and insomnia luckily was also a opioid dependent doctor who I told to begin with I could not take naloxone, so I'm screwed. That was an answer then I had my own question, damn.

It's a disease like any other; in fact, one of the worst aspects of the disease is that there are still uneducated, judgmental, self-righteous people like you which causes an unfortunate stigma attached. Suboxone has many harsh side effects for some patients that Subutex does not. Opiate addiction is serious; no one wants it. Maybe you should not speak of things you know nothing about and stop condemning people for seeking help for a serious disease. Would it be better for that person, or our society in general to continue to obtain it illegally? I too used Subutex to treat an opiate addiction and it saved my life. I graduated college and now have a great career. If you care enough to be on this tread perhaps you would consider educating yourself a little before you speak on it, but I can tell you're not the type of person to do that.

Samantha Jones.....who the hell are you talking to with your condescending attitude? Most people are on here because they want or have information. you don't need to scold anyone here, nor do you need to spew advice.

People that aren't sensitive about opiate addiction shouldn't be posting to this thread, because everyone that's taking there subs the right way, we know we are doing the right thing, but then some a**hole says "get off your lazy ass and get a job". I actually have have a job and have been off opiates for 3 years. My jobs not great, but its a job. Jim is who this mainly goes out to. The guy that said he has a degree to pretty much everywhere. Everyone on here said that subutex is helping, that's awesome, keep it up. I know I will, it's the only thing that's helped so far.

Jim From reading ur posts I have came to the conclusion that you are a judgemental b******. U have practiced medicine and law, then you know everybody has made a mistake in their life. It's people like you that make them not want to correct that mistake. If everybody was like you nobody would ever recover in a way that you talked on all your posts. You're the one that needs to grow up bud.

when i first started with buprenorphine, i was on suboxone. when i checked in with my doctor in about a week, i told him i was having headaches and constant nausea. i didnt know anything about bupe and very little about naloxone at the time, and i was just being honest with him. he switched me to subutex and the headaches and nausea went away. i wonder if that would be the case now, if he would be able to give me subutex because of those symptoms. just curious. (i am no longer on suboxone OR subutex, am on tablet methadone)
