My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 5) (Top voted first)

Updated

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

I have quit xanax twice. The first time I quit on my own. The second time I ran out due to taking some prescriptions that were prescribed. I wouldn't suggest doing this on your own. I was throwing up, couldn't sleep. Very irritable. I worked the first day and was leaving the room to go get sick. I couldn't eat. I threw up so much I was throwing up blood. Had hallucinations. I felt like I had been ran over by a truck. My body hurt so bad. I had body twitches. I definitely will be monitored when I decide to quit. Don't ever do it on your own. I wish I never would've started taking them

I lost my Xanax for several days. While sitting at the computer I suffered a seizure. When I came to I was in an ambulance. I spent two days in the hospital. Now I am taking klonopin instead. I have a huge knot on my temple and two black eyes. I regret getting dependent on xanex. It has cost me dearly. I suffer from bipolar disorder and have for 52 years. I am 61 and do not know how to begin again. I have lost countless jobs, friends and done tremendous harm to my family relationships. I wish I would have died last Tuesday. I wrecked my car after church on Easter and do not have money to repair. I am numb with shame and depression. I exist only for my adult son - his bio father bailed during my first trimester and I never saw him again. My son is a wonderful human being.

I have been taking 4mg of Xanax a day for about 7 years. Last summer I had a bad reaction to a legal supplement sold in every Vitamin Shop and GNC in this country. It was an anomaly that landed me in the ICU for a week (6 nights). The reaction to the supplement seemed very serious, but we came to find out that it was not life threatening, nor was it even dangerous. I was back to normal in 12 hours. However, they insisted that I stay in ICU for a week for observation. They had to do a lot of tests due to protocol. One of the tests was an EEG, so I was not allowed to take my xanax while I was in the hospital because I had to establish a clear baseline. That did not upset me because I understood why they did not want my brain foggy. I was admitted through the ER after an ambulance ride because it appeared I had had a stroke or traumatic brain injury. I had no reaction to pain and I was almost intebated. I came to when the Neurologist tried to stick the tube down my throat. I had astagnus as well. My wife and my mother were terrified, and really thought I was brain dead. My wife is a Doctor in private practice for 20 years, and my mom was an RN for 45 years. It was horrible on them and I have no memory of the event. I had collapsed at home that Saturday afternoon after being disoriented and vomiting. Long story short, I did not feel anything like what you are all speaking of when stopping my Xanax. I had ZERO withdrawal issues. I did not even think about the fact that I did not have my Xanax with me. I really needed a CIGARETTE more than anything. They stuck a nicotine patch on me every 8 hours. I survived with that. I could not sleep because I was on the most uncomfortable air bed on the planet. It was constantly readjusting itself to prevent bedsores on people that were comatose. I was 42 years old at the time and very healthy and I begged the hospital for a regular bed or even a patient transport stretcher, but they would not give one to me. I have an extremely stressful job, and was unable to sleep many years ago, so my Dr. suggested and prescribed me xanax. I must say, it greatly improved my quality of life. While I was in ICU, I honestly did not even think about the fact that I did not have my xanax. Once I was released, I continued taking my Xanax as prescribed. I am writing this to let people know that EVERYONE is different. Not everyone goes through those awful withdrawal symptoms. I had none. It is very possible to quit cold turkey and feel no effects, however, after years of researching Xanax, I would not recommend it because I have read some horror stories about Xanax withdrawal. I have never been an addict of any substance except my cigarettes, nor did I feel I NEEDED Xanax to get through my days. I really needed it to calm my brain from focusing on work as I layed in bed every night losing sleep. Most nights I just take my 4mg all at once at 8pm and get my full 8 hours of sleep and wake up rested and ready for my day. I had mental anxiety at night. My brain was just really focused in whatever it is I had on my agenda the following day. I tried exercise, Yoga, breathing, and herbal remedies before I began Xanax. I am not a big proponent of prescription medications and I feel Big Pharma is destroying our country person by person, especially with opiates. I am a huge supporter and advocate for Kratom and a very active member of the AKA. Kratom has also significantly helped my life in more ways than ANY drug. I highly suggest it for anyone that may ever run out of their Xanax early. There are MILLIONS of people that were able to get off ALL of their prescription drugs with Kratom which is totally legal in 44 states. The six illegal states have totally corrupt legislators running them, who's campaigns are all being funded by Big Pharma who, by the way, is the only industry that would suffer a great financial loss if Kratom remains legal, which I spend a lot of my time making sure of. People put way too much thought into making themselves believe that they need medications to get through their lives, when those meds are not really doing much but brainwashing people into a fixation. Your mind is so powerful that it will make ones physical symptoms very real when getting off of a medication. I totally sympathize with folks that suffer from withdrawal, but I do want people to know that Kratom can really help. I do not sell nor do I make any money off of Kratom. I am not affiliated with any Kratom companies or vendors. Best of luck to all of you out there suffering. Just remember, your mind controls your body. Get control of your mind, and you will have control of your body!

Absolutely not. I have been taking Kratom for 5 years. If you must onow, my reaction was to focus factor Eddy. That has nothing to do with what I am trying to say. I had zero withdrawal to the Xanax. I would never take opiates for my DDD when I was diagnosed in 2000 so I suffered until I found Kratom. Everyone is different. Not everyone suffers from withdrawal. I am living proof.

@Post#257,

Kratom isn't just a product per say; it's a treasured medicinal plant that grows naturally and abundantly in southeast Asia that's been used for thousands of years (much like marijuana in that regard).

I wasn't going to respond to this at first, but after recently taking kratom myself, I know it works as well as "KEEPKRATOMLEGAL" described it. And when you find a legal, OTC, natural supplement that works as well as a prescription drug like xanax then you have a reason to want to spread the word around.

I would encourage anyone who is curious about kratom to research different strains, but since the discussion here pertains to xanax, perhaps Green Vein Maeng Da Borneo or Red Vein Bali varieties would be the most fitting.

Now Kratom is mad at me and I have no idea what I said, although I think it has to do with a legal suit against Focus Factor for millions of dollars. In the meantime many doctors are plain not aware of the potential deadly withdrawal symptoms Xanax can cause. If you feel sick, in most cases will only get worse and it is suggested to seek emergency assistance!

I am not mad Eddy. I just wanted you to know that I was not claiming I had a reaction to Vitamin C. Focus Factor has some very potent synthetic chemicals in it and they are not listed. It took my Neurologist a few days to figure out what caused my episode. I am very healthy and it was shocking to myself as well as my family. @SayWhat can think whatever they like, because everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I just don't like being called a liar. I have spent the last two years helping many people get OFF their prescription drugs using Kratom. Since 2011 I have spent a lot of time and a TON of money weeding out the bad vendors and scammers in the Kratom community. I have been on the NY news and just wrapped up a Columbia University documentary about the day and the life of a Kratom user. It will be picked up and broadcasted soon. I am not promoting anything. I am simply spreading awareness. I have no reason to lie to you, or anyone else about my, or my families credentials. If people want to be stuck on prescription drugs for the rest of their lives, that is their choice. If they work, thats great. The thing is, over the past few years, I have discussed Kratom with literally THOUSANDS of people because of my advocacy work. Almost 100% of the people that are currently addicted to ANY prescription drugs do not want to be. Kratom is a way out without more of Big Pharmas posions of expensive rehabs that have a 96% failure rate, and cost an average of $30k PER 30 DAY STAY. We are completely losing the war on drugs in this country. I have dedicated a HUGE part of my life to lobbying for Kratom. Please don't confuse my passion for promotion like @SayWhat did. I wish you well @Eddy. No hard feelings at all. The good news is that NY closed their legislative session on June 17th and Kratom was NOT made illegal here like Alabama and Arkansas. They unethically passed two bills in those states SCHEDULING Kratom making research impossible, and possession a felony. Both of the bills sponsors were linked to pharmaceutical profiting. Hubbard, the former SOH of Alabama, was just sentenced to prison himself. This is the man that got Kratom banned in that state back in May. He, Mack Butler, and Barry Matson are the ones that got Kratom scheduled. Google this whole mess and tell me what you think. @SayWhat needs to research BEFORE they speak out loud. It is easy to point fingers from behind a keyboard, but every word I have said can be proven with a simple Google search. I am just trying to help as many people as I can by spreading awareness, not PROMOTING Kratom. Big difference. I sleep very well at night knowing all of the lives I have impacted and saved by simply telling people about Kratom :)

You know I had been taking Damascus for panic attacks since my thyroid had gone away, put on synthroid. Now I have learned that the panic attacks is a part of what I am feeling. I had to change doctors to be closer to PvP and he will not prescribe me them. I am going out of my head from anxiety. Tell me how to ask for help in getting back on them? I have been through so many surgeries it isn't funny; discotomy then fusion with plates and screws plus cabaret bones, lung cancer and now the breast surgery. I can't get him to write anything for me but see all these young ppl that are healthy looking laughing and making deals on the phone about selling their medicine and you notice I said looks healthy, this is what Obama healthcare has created. Young ppl not working as I did and being hurt in car wrecks lost the feeling in legs that lead to back surgeries. Please help me understand why and how can I get the medicine to take instead of hurting all the time and my Damascus to help me sleep when these PPL make a living out of going to doctors instead of working. Makes me think why did I work so hard and going on 60 yrs this coming year when these PPL are not looking for work and brag that they don't have to work it's so disheartening and depressing to think I am going to have to live with all that my body has to go through and I dont know how to ask my doctor. These PPL drive better cars than I do which I can't afford a car and insurance for it if I had one but they drive the best and wear the best of clothes. Please help me, what's wrong with this picture...Am 59 and in so much pain. Oh by the way I have ultercious colitis also, my stomach hurts so bad and at least opiates help cause constipation which I need. I have lost so much weight and can't afford clothes to wear. Mine are falling off me and doctors don't seem to care about us elderly patients anymore. There will always be some ppl needing docs, I know this cause I see it at docs offices. Thank You. Please help me to find an answer and no not pain centers, they only want to jab needles in your back and create more damage.

Susan in reference to an earlier post please do not even attempt to dispense medical advice. To KEEPKRATOMLEGAL, what is the DEA doing to your plant, just read today on Yahoo they are actively working to intercept as much as possible and put new Kratom laws in effect

I am not dispensing medical advice. I am a qualified medical professional, and I am aware of my practice limitations. My point was for the OP to see objectively that "sick" feelings following the ingestion of the last dose of Xanax in possession, indicates a need to assess psychological addiction. An earlier point made by another poster was very valid. A doctor, on occasion may be able to call in a prescription when appointments are missed, but this is not standard practice. Psychological professionals, as are all doctors MUST see a patient to ensure treatment programs continue to be appropriate. This patient thought that one exception made previously by phone would be extended again. This is a doctor's license, more and more phones prescriptions for controlled substances are becoming less frequent. It is the responsibility of the pt to get to appointments as scheduled if they want continuity of treatment plans. My suggestion was to white knuckle it until an appointment could be scheduled, or seek help from an urgent care clinic. This has nothing to do with what you mention.

No they are not psychologically depended, they are chemically dependent and the Xanax is needed or re-hab with therapy!

I don't think a Dr can just take you off xanax because it's dangerous i read about it. It said it could kill you unless he gives you something else top help you through your withdrawals. I've. Been on xanax for three years now and i tried quitting cold turkey and i couldn't the withdrawals were horrible and i was having bad dreams no sleep getting sick wasn't good. I am going to have my Dr put me on something thats less addictive. Go to the hospital if you get to bad because it's not safe and you been on it for ten years. I will beer praying for you

I recently stopped taking this med, and it took several days to have a seizure - something that has never happened before, however, I was exceptionally sleep deprived which can be expected during withdrawal, I have had this med for 26 years. My maximun dose was 12 mg per day, and I asked the dose be reduced, but it stands at up to 4mg per day. This is considered High dose. In the past, I have titrated this medication down, as I want it to remaib effective, and had intermittent sort periods of abstinence while I waited for Drs appts. Here are some interesting things that people should be aware of: The seizures are quite serious, I am kucky it didn't take my life, once you have a seizure, you must stay on anticonvulsant medication as the danger of another seizure increases. lthough, after a period, this can be tapered off. There are studies showing anticonvulsant medication is effective for abrupt withdrawal. If Your doctor puts you into this position, you mifgt try asking for an anticonvulsant to keep you safe. You can tke both at the same time, and come off the -c gradually, or taper off your dose of benzo. Withdrawal from any substance is uncomfortable, there are no miracles to relieve all symptoms, Abrupt w/d is not recommended without medical supervision. Each case is different, and should be under supervision, medicated, or tapering.

I have run out of xanax after 20 years of 4 mg a day .I felt like I was in a cloud and nothing seemed real.Getting upset only caused tears a cussing.I took 50 mg of a sleepaid for night ,the kind like benadryl. It did make me sleep.12 days without ,I could funtion fine but the cloud was still there .I would look at me legs and feet and they looked so far away like I was 10 foot tall.It never stopped and I was told that my brain was messed up because it was so used to xanax.then the doc and pharmacy realized that I really did not have another refill.I did experience why I took them in the first place.all the past crap hit me hard .I got my refill but plan on it lasting 2 months not one.And slowly get off it .i dont know if I can .That first dose brought me back down to normal and I can live very peacefully. Its just hard.

Ann, your advice for her to go to the ER is right, or better yet, she needs to go straight to a rehab facility. Telling her to take a friend's narcotics is instigating illegal sharing. I wouldn't share. People can lie and say it's OK for them to take it. Then if their is an adverse reaction who do you think would get it trouble. You don't know if she is on other meds that might be contraindicated. She is not going to drop dead like right away unless she was on massive doses. She needs to hydrate, hydrate hydrate her body. Even if she is nauseous and vomiting continue hydrate. Take a mist treatment turn on the hot water in your BR let it misted up and go in there for 15-20 mins. Talked warm showers. You need to detox your body. All the hospital will do is stock an IV in your arm anyway. Drink a lot of milk.

Dawn, I am right with you. Nurse practitioner just refused filling my xanax that doctor put me on 8 years ago, cold turkey. It's my 4 day feel awful but just had a major panic attack while driving and had minor accident. That's one reason I was on it. So upsit and don't know if I should go above her head and call doctor. I wonder if someone was hurt if a doc could be sued for something like that happening because of refusal of meds.
