My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 21)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

@Susan #395, IMO, you appear passive aggressive. You are the one making assumptions regarding my education re: tolerance vs strong. You made assumptions regarding whether another commenter was mocking someone's withdrawal symptoms. Susan, this is not the ICU. I think it's safe to say everyone here including yourself have been through, or are going through drug addiction / dependency. Please, stop with the unsolicited advice, therapy, counseling and so called diagnosis wisdom, which frankly comes off sounding very sangamoneous.

Hi Annie #400, I am so sorry for your loss. It's really disturbing to hear stories like what you shared. I have heard other stories of doctors dismissal of family members recounting their love ones symptoms. They seems to have lost their drive to touch patients and do a thorough assessment. And take a full history. Instead of the system getting better it's getting worse IMO. I don't know your pain, but I agree that you need to reach out and truly tell the doctor your pain. I told my psychiatrist my childhood? trauma & the treatment I am on now works.

There are other medications that work far better then Xanax . The problem is most people convince themselves that's the only drug on the market that's helpful. If I were you I'd contact your prescriber and be honest about your position and your fears. NO ONE wants to see a fellow human suffer and face time behind bars. Please be proactive and see a professional before your fear becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. God bless.

Where I live it's difficult to find someone that's not going to judge you especially without insurance. I live in a fairly decent size town it's actually a college town but years ago I tried to get help for my dependency on benzodiazipines and addiction to opioids, and every year has gotten worse for me. I always thought what u posted was how it would be but unfortunately it wasn't. So to the person who says they don't want to end up back in jail, I feel you. I'm 33 now and just starting to try again with getting help so I wonder if things have really changed for the better and maybe there are better options than there were. I guess that's all one can do is keep trying and never give up. I need advice regarding the type of doctor I should see and what a person like me approach should be. Should I be up front about my drug addiction and should I allow them to access all my medical records? I'm not too trusting these days with doctors but I want to make sure I don't say the wrong thing or have them put in my file that I'm doctor shopping or black list me which I believe is a real thing.

It is absolutely ridiculous what is happening in the Kratom community. Thankfully we, as a community, were able to halt the emergency scheduling back in October pending further study. It is the first time in history that WE THE PEOPLE were able to stop the DEA. Pray that we keep this miracle plant LEGAL for all to use.

Yes go to the emergency room explain it to them. Same thing happened to me however it's not the doctor it's because they are trying to take xanax of the market, he should we knew all along with giving you something else to substitute.

But then the doctor called in drugs without seeing her when it was convenient for him but he won't call them in when she has a legitimate excuse. You label her a drug seeker for not wanting to go through withdrawals so what do you call him for not prescribing them, a sadist? Your logic is way off base..........Your empathy seems disingenuous.

There's no way you get 340 30 mg Oxys prescribed to you. There is just no possible way. That's 11 pills a day. Plus 120 Xanax. And Klonopin? No way

It's getting so terrible for people that need this medication as doctors don't want to give them out and it's terrible! One place I was going to totally took all my medicine away and I got terribly sick along with losing 29 pounds, sweating all night and changing my pajamas 3 x a night as they were soaked. I had horrible dreams and they even kicked me out of their place with a letter and said they would report me to the police! I finally found a doctor that put me back on my medicine and doing much better and also able to eat now!! There is more to this story as the so called FNC didn't know what to do so she called another place in the hospital and he was only an FNC but suggested to take me off all meds!!! Actually I really should sue them for the things that happened to me. I was hearing voices etc, and was calling my neighbor in to check my house out.

I also suffer from chronic generalized anxiety, my physiatrist passed away around the time the DEA began this war on prescription meds. I've tried every other possible med and relaxation therapy. The only thing that works for me are benzos. I can't find anyone else to give me my medication. My quality of life is not good because I have an incurable disease, my former Dr was honest enough to acknowledge that my condition was biochemical and not situational. Sadly this country is the only one in the world that has vilified DR's and patients who suffer from pain or mental conditions, and deprive them of their meds. If I could move to another country I would, good luck

I read the above post - it's almost exactly what's happening to me. Mine is lorazepam, I've been taking it for 9 years. My dosage went down from 4 to 2 at my request. My son was murdered; so that's when the RX's started. I've moved from CA to TX had an appt with an Internal Medicine Dr., I made 9 weeks ago. I told my CA my Dr. date and she gave me enough meds incl sleep meds and other non-pam's. - New IM Dr even with a certified copy of my CA chart (was a wreck something like this would happen) I got a lecture about Benzos; I listened and finally firmly and pissed told him he isn't a board certified psych to start me on addition therapy. His office will not call my CA dr., to confirm. Nor will my CA dr. After my son's murder, the grief wasn't limited to his loss, I also had to drive 4 hours for each hearing date for the 5 people arrested. All that ended 3 years ago and he was murdered 11 years ago. No hubby etc.- I understand the additive problems of lorazepam and restoril (I've tried prob 99% of others, even paying cash if insurance wouldn't) I'm sorry this is so wordy, but I have 0.00 lorazapam as of today. I'm not sure what to do.

Thanking you for responding. Spent Easter at the cemetery and ended up spending the night there with my two dogs in my van as yesterday was Kim's birthday. Actually slept perfectly and at peace. I'm sure I would considered mental -- I seemed to need the connection. The loss never goes away. Bless you, SayWhat.

Tanya so sorry to read this. I almost lost my life over refusing to take Lorazepam, threw away a years worth and within days I was in the Hospital suffering from an Alprazolam withdrawal. Don't go without is the main point of this post as it can cause great harm

I don't know what to do. I'm having serious heart papations, I hope going to urgent care "gets it," Then in another day I won't have sleep meds. I too fishy to drive. But I real. Thank you sweet pea.

IVE SEEN A SYC AND HE RANG THR DOCTOR TO FIND OUT WHY THEY WERE REDUCING ME 'I LOST A STONE IN WEIGHT AND ETC .NOW IM BACK ON MY 2...1MG A DAY .A SYC IS THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL GET THIS MEDICATION 'THERE FINDING OUT WHO THEY THINK NEED IT .?

I'll be honest with you bro, you can die quitting xanax cold turkey. He is supposed to lower your dose every month and wean you off. It's a f***ing rotten feeling coming off. I even hallucinated and it took a good month for me before i started getting normal. Good luck bro.

I don't know what state you live in as some have cracked down on benzodiazepines even though the law remains that a doctor must give you 30 days of all your meds otherwise you can file a malpractice suit against him. You should go to an ER as stopping any benzo can cause respiratory failure. You can call the doctor again and let him know you know that fact. Remind him he took an oath. The hippocrattic oath when he became a doctor. And the main thing he is suppose to uphold is "IS TO CAUSE NO HARM". You can look it up on Wikipedia. The direct link is (CC BY -SA 3.0). First paragraph states what I just did in bold. Also go down to the extra links and read Breaking the Hippocratix oath. May seem like a lot of reading but knowledge is key and stating what you know, don't say what you heard. It can put a doctor in line as they don't expect us to know these things. Xanax is one of the most dangerous and difficult to come off of. I had to do it. I now take Clonazepam. Lasts longer and is the safest of all benzos. The truth of the matter (although it does not sound fun) is your do doctor should know it takes 21 days to detox off a benzo so he should have sent you impatient as it is important that a record of your vitals are taken 3 times a day. If you have a blood pressure monitor then take it your self and keep a journal. Hope this helps.

After taking antibiotics & a tetanus shot after a dog bite, I was hurling for days. Lost 30 lbs & was delirious. Dr. started to hospitalize me when the PA said "she is having withdrawals from hurling everything including Xanax and depression medication". I had chicken broth and one Xanax for two days and gained some strength and 100 wrinkles! Withdrawals must be HORRIBLE and two years later he has cut me back from three a day if needed to two .5mg - NOT working. I cry at the drop of a hat and sleep far too much.

John: the lower the dose during weaning the faster they wean. I was once weaned in one week from 4 mgs to nothing. Unfortunately, I have adrenal panic not anxiety panic. The situation I describe was20 years ago...with no adverse consequences. Last fall- as I am a medical professional who titrates the drug down to maintain efficient effects - I had a horrible seizure, most likely due to age, as this has never happened in the past with the same program. At this point I decided to wean with an anticonvulsant on board. This was successful, and I weaned from the anticonvulsant as well, however, last month I awoke in the middle of the night with a horrible panic attack...I had not had one in...I'll say10 years, so imagine how shocked I was especially that my problem has nothing to do with anxiety. I am again on alprazolam, but glad to say it's PRN up to only1.5 mg per day. The lowest it's been in a long time. It's not right for a medical professional strip you of medication knowing the dangers- which are much more frequent,(seizures), than most would suspect. It's irresponsible and should be reported for endangering a patient if you are not inpatient an under supervision.
