I have been taking this medication for 7 days and off of it since a week and still have severe side effects, abdominal cramps, severe headaches, dizziness, unsteadiness... How long is it expected to last? It was prescribed with Ciprofloxacin to me and I take Entrophen on a regular basis...

So glad I found this information. I'm taking it for a infection from my tooth. I'm super sick and it's been day 2 and I need to take it for 1 week. 250 mg x 4 times a day.
I'm worried that these side effects are going to be long lasting. I've been sooo emotional (crying and angry) for no reason, getting the shakes, dizzy, no energy at all, can't sleep and I've had depression/anxiety in the past and now I'm worried. My husband says "it's all in your head" I wish the dentist and pharmacy told me information before I started taking it.

How is everyone feeling ? Have your symptoms disappeared ?

hi guys its been a year for me and im back to my normal life far from those side effects, although i still have some issues the effects no longer control my life.. i just do kefir everyday and do healthy foods and sauna .. also i cant be on a perfect diet coz of our environment but i have supplements that makes my recovery speed up (called transfer factor) and help me a lot to boost my immune system; allowing it to recover by itself. all in all although im a bit damaged I will not stop myself but renewing again by utilizing the right kind of treatment on it. i suggest transfer factor by a colostrum of immune cells also will be a hope for us. also there is riovida which contains diff kinds of berries help me to recover. im strong enough now to go a normal life. my post last year was miserable. i did not imagine i can be like this again. i thought i was going to die but my body healed itself.

so i suggest you research it. this site wont allow me to link to it. transfer factor by 4life co. also turmeric cucurmin juice help me to detox some flouride in my body. i get boils that time. after it was removed i felt better but i believe this drug really suppresses the immune system. that's why we develop many diseases. transfer factor can boost and educate our immune system to protect our body from some foreign substances. i suggest after detox .. restore many healthy foods including this. it has colostrum shitake mushroom and many more.

I am sorry you are going through this to .I took this medication at the beginning of February 3x 500mg 3 times a day and im still sick to this day been to every doctor possible even got a ct scan and they say I'm fine all I want to do all the time is sleep because of the headache and it's even had to drive still can't concentrate my arms and legs keep going tingly and I get hot flashes. I wish I would have never taken this as it is poison would never never take this again ! Wish you luck with recovery

It took me about two months to get over the awful side effects. Some people take less time; some more. Get some magnesium supplements and take one pill daily before bedtime. That helps you get over it faster and helps decrease the symptoms.

transfer factor by 4life co. is the product I take to help my recovery... along with healthy foods, meditation, exercise, sauna, and sleep. No supplements... only this with healthy foods.

Hi Erin,
I am having the same problem that you had with the nasty flagyl. My vision is so bad. I am off for 4 weeks but still so dizzy and sick. Please help me.

Hello to every one I was reading each and every one of your comments first of all sorry for what you all going thru..and thank you all for posting your systems so people like myself who was prescribed this medicine but I was reloten on taken them until I started to research and came to this discussion threads and I thank each and every on of you and hope and pray for you all to get better soon..please detox your body's your liver get well soon......

Doctor proscribed me 250 flagyl take 8 all at once on Sunday April 26 and felt dizzy that next night and I still feel lightheaded or my head is numb is this normal I'm wondering how long side effects last

I was on flagyl for 7 days and have been off of it for one week . Still a horrible thick salty taste in my mouth , extreme abdominal pains with bouts of extreme diarhea. No matter what I eat , it seems to upset my stomach . I also have ibs and female issues , but nothing compared to what the flagyl seemed to do to me.

I'm going through it too. Took metronidazole 500mg 3x daily for six days. I took it for diarrhea that was slowly increasing (3x a day), on the flagyl I had diarrhea 15x a day. Stopped when I started experiencing numbness and tingling in hands and feet. It's been a month and a half. The diarrhea is long gone, replaced with semi constipation. Most of the tingling is gone, but it still comes and goes at times. Was also having numbness and tingling on my chin, face and side of head. Have a daily headache in one or both temples. Stomach is a mess. I switched to a paleo type diet, that helps. Eat lots of salmon and other cold water wild caught fish. Lots of steamed vegetables. Probiotics might help, I react to most if I take too much. The flagyl definitely gave me horrible anxiety, and a bunch of other weird symptoms too. Seems like it's something new every day. For some (like me) I'm pretty sure the majority of symptoms is due to the flagyl wiping out a huge percentage of natural gut flora. I have a ton of reactions to foods that I never had before this antibiotic, so this theory makes sense. For some, all that may be needed is a good probiotic. Natural flora synthesize a number of the b vitamins so those will probably be low if flora was pooped out. This has been a very trying experience to say the least. Try to minimize your stress, go for walks, meditate, pray, do what you have to do. Look up heart math, keep a gratitude journal. These things will help to a certain extent. Stay positive. You will get through it. I'm not there yet, but I know I will be. I didn't come this far to be taken down by an antibiotic!

Been off this med since febuary 20 2015 and still getting severe panic attacks can't drive the infection came back and brain fog never went away also still have a lot of pressure in my head. If your reading this and thinking of taking it DONT . I've been off work now for 2 months as I'm a mechanic and can't concentrate . Had every test done you can think of and they cant find anything.

I continue to experience anxiety from it too, also about two months since I stopped taking it. The anxiety is lessening as time goes by. The panic attacks have faded away for me, those lessened at about 1.5 months, although I'll still get a random one. I still have brain fog that comes and goes, but it was there consistently in the first month. From what I've read, the anxiety and brain fog does ease off eventually for most people. I've seen a few cases where people said the anxiety tailed off at about 6 months. Published journal articles say most of the brain damage that can be caused by flagyl is reversible, but recovery time varies.

Chris, look into leaky gut as a possibiliy. I know that's a diagnosis that's fairly alternative, but who knows it might have some validity. I went and saw a naturopath and they told me they thought it was leaky gut. Don't know if you are having digestive issues or not. I sure have been. Pretty bad indigestion and acid reflux. The naturopath gave me a gut healing formula that has dgl, glutamine, glucosamine in it. It's helping the gut pain. I also eat extra dgl. It helps. Been eating a ton of steamed vegetables and drinking a lot of water. Those seem to help too. Take care man. The anxiety and brain fog suck!
