Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 74)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Yes same here,I'm thinking of going to see an endrocologist if thyroid Or and andrenals are off there are vitimans which can help if its thyroid there are natural supplements but medicine also used,my hr is like 120 -134 moving around early but at the same time it's happening I feel weak and shaky which lets me know ok it's not my heart it's the anxiety doing it and by the time I start work I'm in 80'
I'm thinking I'm finally right. I have had no shortness of breath or feelings of tightness in my chest, or stomach issues for going on 3 weeks. I'm just hoping it doesn't show back up! Took me well over 2 months to finally feel normal! Hope everyone will start to feel better soon
That's great to here Norma what supplements
Have u been taking in process
This stuff wreaks havoc on the thyroid. Just the slightest bit off and symptoms flare, it's not something that's going to come up in blood tests easily. It's all tied to the havoc wreaked on the sympathetic nervous system :/
Monique I didn't take any supplements, I am thinking of starting some though! I guess I'm lucky to be feeling better, the poison must have worked its way out hopefully! How are you coming along?
Hey on and off good and bad days mainly in the morning when it's bad,my muscles just feel so week but I just tested low for vitamins d that may have a role in it also,so I was prescribed a vitiman d to take over the next 4 weekspp
Norma, that's great to hear! That's pretty much how it worked for me, too. Although, I have had minor bouts that would occur once in a great while, even after being off of it for 13 months. It's a nasty drug, to say the least.
Jimbo thanks! Glad to hear your doing good as well. I'm anticipating that I might have something come back, I hope not. My cardiologist office called me today wondering why I haven't come in for a follow up, I guess I'm going to go back but I was not wanting to be put on another medication, so I hope it works out.
Jimbo and Norma, did you experience off and on nausea throughout your wihdrawal from M?
And I had to get off it because it was causing me extreme anxiety on M, this after 20 years of few side effects, mostly lightheadness.
I have so many variables going on right now that I really cannot pinpoint the cause.
I was just put on 120 mg of Cardizem ER, that has brought down the HR but not the BP.
They put me on 40 mg bid of omeprazole for the nausea, but I am thinking it may be the omeprazole itself, causing the nausea.
And every medicine invented can cause nausea, so it seems from reading the side effects.
Hey Matt! I didn't have any nausea to speak of during withdrawal. I had the typical rebound effects such as chest pain, heart palps, high BP spikes, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, anxiety, etc., etc. Needless to say, after all that it felt great to feel normal again. As I said earlier, though, I continued to get two or three day bouts where my BP would rise as well as having the anxiety, and this would occur about every three to four weeks for almost a year. Caffeine and alcohol became instant triggers, too, so I had to avoid them entirely. I still have mild bouts on rare occasion, but I hardly notice it these days. Still, it leads me to believe that this drug may have caused some significant damage to my nervous system. That might be the reason why it takes many folks much longer periods of time to get beyond it. Plus, some of us certainly seem to be much more sensitive to it than others. I just feel for those who are struggling with it.
Hey Jimbo I'm glad to hear two success stories so far I've just been so down the last couple of months,I'm going to see now ENT doc because it feels like something stuck in there all the time, gastro doc next week for this horrible reflux which I heard also makes the heart rate faster too,and then got test done at the endocrinologist yesterday on thyroid and adrenals waiting on those results now, this is just too much ...But God bless all ??
Hope everyone stays positive. I know this is one heck of a ride we will all be going thru but this chat is very helpful. There was lots of times i would freak out and start reading this chat and it helped me alot. Especially jimbo, he is very helpful and he always has great feedback. I have been off 8 months and still have bad days but lots of better days.
Hey Jr good to here better days for u,are experiencing any gastro issues and anxiety a lot still which could be link I think
Matt once in a while I had a little nausea, but mainly anxiety, shortness of breath, and problems in my throat and feeling of someone sitting on my chest, once in a while I'm still feeling a little sluggish, but for the most part I'm feeling much better. I was only on this crap for 6 months, so I'm thinking the longer your one it probably the longer to heal! Keep us posted on your progress! Hang in there it will get better ??
Thanks Norma and Jimbo...It is so hard to get a handle on what is causing what.
Day 39
Today my BP is OK so far but the HR is 95; yesterday the BP was 160/80 and HR was in the high 70's and low 80's.
Nausea from the start of the day and I am taking Omeprazole. This M is such a strong drug.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Well, I'd just like to say "you're welcome" for all the thanks here, but there was a time when I was pretty freaked out about my situation without knowing where to turn. It literally felt like hell on earth. If you look back to May of 2015, you'll see what I'm talking about. This was the only active website I found where I could find some realistic answers to my ailments, and I'm more than thankful to those along the way who gave me the help and support I received when I needed it the most. They're the ones that deserve all the credit, in my honest opinion. I still do, however, like to check in here on occasion just to see how everyone is doing, for if I can give anybody any help or advice or whatever, I'm more than happy to do so.
Day 41, getting very discouraged in that I thought I would be having some improvement by now.
When the blood pressure is up, the heart rate is better, and vice versa.
I was woken up twice last night by palpitations and afraid to sleep during the day.
I feel as if I have missed the last 4 months of my life, the summer is over and I am afraid to move much except for trips to the doctor or hospital.
I also feel as if The medical profession has let me down. When they do not have an answer, they think a trip to a psychiatrist is the next step....it is all in your head.
I have had a triple bypass, but I could feel myself getting better and stronger with each passing day, the same with a hip replacement, but with this, it is the same every day...very monotonous and very scary.
I take my blood pressure and the diastolic is in a good, tight range, while the systolic is all over the place, depending on whether I am sitting or lying and it gets so high sometimes.
I hope others are doing better.
Hello Ma,sorry to hear about all your troubles and yes I've also experienced same things,I'm almost at 3 months off now and so far since Saturday it's been ok,asides from when I first wake up and get out the bed I find my heart right slightly higher like 110-118 but goes back down shortly,it's been a long road for all of us,and when u were waking up palpitations were u having a dream, that' use to happen to me too?
It is Matt, Monique, somehow the letters got lopped off.
Yes, it was a dream and I woke up with my heart racing. I started on Cardizem 120 last week, but that does not seem to helping much. I am retired so I do not have to work, but this is worse and much longer than Anything I have experienced in my almost 70 years and I have had eight major operations and battled depression from chronic sciatic pain all my life.
I feel weak, chilled at times, nausea is always lurking. My sleep is sporadic and I never feel rested. My only relief is decaf green tea, which sometimes relieves nausea. I have cut out soda and coffee as many have suggested on this board. I have always been able to exercise my stress away, but now without, the littlest thing can stress me out.
Tomorrow comes a barium test to see if my cyst in my esophagus is blocking food and water. IF so, I have to have it removed endoscopically. I am not looking forward to another operation and stay in the hospital because they might just decide to give me a beta blocker and I would despise that.
Be well
I am a little over 7 months off. Having more bad days than good now. I'm almost constantly light headedness and have been recently having heart palpitations. My sensitivity to any medicine is now so severe that I can't even take a vitamin. The beta blocker messed up my body. Bad. I am slipping into a deep depression and in denial that after all these months it's still the beta blocker. Every day I think I'm going to die and that there's somethinges very wrong with me. So frustrated.
