Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 73)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Hey Sandra and yes I do mainly in the morning just ordered Tranquelene total calm on line go read the reviews,it helps put body back in normal levels,I think because the beta suppressed everything for so long, things are still off,we have to take supplements to get back in order,or at least quicker

Hi All, yes the good stretches get longer and better, but man is this a slow process!! Dec 9 was my last lick, and I'm still getting nailed with heart rate spikes, fuzzy head, anxiety- often out of the blue. Bad stretches are 1-3 days, every couple or three weeks. This takes enormous patience and faith for sure. Sigh. Hang on everyone......

20 years of metoprolol and whadaya get, another day of nausea, feeling like s***. St. Peter don't ya call me, cause I can't go, my heart is racing so I must rest my soul. With apologies to Tennessee Ernie.

The drug companies do a great job of training doctors on how to wean someone onto their drugs, but weaning off and caring for them through withdrawal from addictive drugs gets token attention and support.

The drug companies ought to be forced to train some of their staff to help people like us get off these addictive drugs by the FDA.

It is all about the $$$$$....day 23, just like day 1, hell on earth.

I was just cleared of having carcinoid syndrome with a thorough nuclear scan of my neuro-endocrine system. So the high heart rate, the warm feeling I get through my head, the nausea and the headaches are not due to that.

So are the persistent nausea, high heart rate, the hot head and headache and the high blood pressure all withdrawal symptoms of metoprolol? I am on Cymbalta, Amitryptiline, and lorazepam for spine related chronic sciatic pain and I have used them all for ten years.

I was bumped up to 100 mg of losartan after stopping the metoprolol from 50 mg.

I notice a slight increase in HR when I take the Cymbalta and a decrease in the evening with Amitryptiline.

I started taking a magnesium/calcium/zinc and one a day vitamin after reading the board here, but have seen no effect thus far on any symptoms.

Day 26 and I have relieved some anxiety from the carcinoid test, but continue to feel periods of anxiety, but nothing like when metoprolol turned on me and caused overwhelming anxiety, usually associated with withdrawal but not for me.

I never want to be on a beta blocker again, but I am getting awfully sick of being tied to my house and chair in fear of having a heart event.

Help!

One last thing and I will be quiet.

I know I am sensitive to meds because when they came out with a generic Cymbalta, I noticed a change in a couple of days. I paid the extra dollars to go back to the original and there was clearly a difference for me.

Well I saw this coming. I had a good 3 days. Now today I feel like my nervous system is in overdrive if that makes sense. My skin is crawling. HR a little high. Cant even focus on my computer. Just a shaky feeling. I am convinced now this feeling is still withdrawal the way it feels. It's a grit ur teeth kinda feeling. I also took my last dose Dec 30. Was on this crap for 1 1/2 years at a low 6mg a day dose. Messed me up!

I knew it I have never had these issues before in my 35 years off life,I read somewhere online that when your ur gastro system is off it does cause anxiety in body too,so I'm now as of today on Prilosac ones a day and Zantac when needed

In the cause and effect department, anxiety/stress/diet will produce the acid in your stomach that causes acid reflux, heartburn, nausea and maybe even Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Those symptoms of anxiety can lead to more anxiety especially if they cause pain or inhibit quality sleep.

Try elevating the head of your bed so that, while sleeping, gravity keeps the acid from moving up into your esophagus from the stomach.

And try not to lay down after eating and eating before sleeping.

I am at Day 31, on month off M. My BP seems to be getting worse. I read somewhere that the withdrawal symptoms peak at one month. I almost went to the ER yesterday, but I was reticent since they treat you like an insane person there when they cannot understand why anyone would go off M or not restart to bring down the HR and BP.

Have other's seen their symptoms peak at one month? If my BP stays at this level, I get very fearful, enough to go see a cardiologist again.

Yes I have, especially in the morning time. I take it 3 to 4 times a day. It may shoot up because we are stressed but I was told to do an average of what it is through the day.

Matt,
I've been off M for six months. I still have some anxiety issue from time to time. Also a little racing heart rate. Back to normal for the most part.
One month off was definitely the hardest time for me.

I honestly dont know at this point if it was the beta blocker that messed me up. I had my last lick dec 30. 7 months off and still having problems daily. I am still lightheaded. Especially when I bend over to do laundry or when I sweep the floor. My anxiety still hits a couple times a week. I was on a very small mg and cant believe this would still be a problem. I had my anemia fixed so they dont think thats it anymore. Im seriously giving up!

Gm Sandra,I personally believe it's our thyroid or adrenal system that was thrown off I wake up now every morning with anxiety high HR which goes down through out the day,hot feelings on my neck and back, weak muscles

Todd, thanks for the personal input.

If one month off was the worst, when did you start feeling the symptoms finally calming down?

And how long were you on the M? At what dosages?
