Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 72)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Hello Guys I was just wondering how is everyone doing on here lately!?
Hello! I am having more better days but still have a couple days a week of being light headed. Does anyone still have shortness of breath after 6-7 mo off?
I do its something that comes and goes. but its getting better
Day 19, still have 115 HR when I get up.....when will this calm down?
I am on 2 mg of lorazepam and feel as if I need more. Always feel vulnerable to this insidious attack on my heart and brain.
I am afraid to go out, walk up stairs....feel nailed to my chair and that is not good for a bad back.
Send me some hope, please.
I as in this drug 20 years. Doctors think I am nuts to go off, but the overwhelming anxiety had me at the ER every week when the drug turned on me.
They all think this relieves anxiety......well, not for me and I know anxiety.
Gm Jr I was doing ok,had 2 glasses of wine last night it triggered an anxiety attack rush to the ER and everything because I was so scared,I just don't understand this,I'm so emotional now
Still getting nausea, flushing and elevated HR. BP is OK with 100 mg of losartan, but it wears off in the PM and BP rises.
Some say these are symptoms of a carcinoid tumor?
Any thoughts?
Hello Matt no never heard of that but I'm sure doctors can check for tumors,u have chest pain?
No chest pain, but I had a triple bypass two ago.
Does anyone have a flushing feeling in the face, without turning red, just a warm sensation...is that an HR effect, i.e. a result of adrenaline rushes triggered by the unblocking of the Beta receptors?
Gm monique . I would stay away from alcohol or anything that can increase anxiety for now like cigarettes , caffeine etc. Right now we habe to stay as calm and healthy as we can. I personally think its going to be a long ride to be back to normal . I have read alot of people on here take months but some even up to a year so don't give up .
Ok thanks Jr will do and God bless us all,for by his stripes we are healed!
Matt I did have a hot flash type feeling once in a while in the first few weeks, but it did go away
Hey JR and Lauren...how are you holding up? I am now at 3 week stretches of good days and the bad ones are lasting about 3 days...prayers for all
How long have you been off metoprolol, CJ88?
I am on Day 21 and still have nausea and HR from 85-110.
Hi cjj88 i am getting better and your right the good stretches start to last longer. I dont think i am at 3 weeks at a time yet bet its better . I actually played with my nephews the other ( soccer ) i was dying but just because i couldn't keep up lol. But its starting to come around. I think it will get better just longer than we thought
Hi Matt...yesterday was 7 months to the day. It has been a very long road as others have said. I have come to realize I am one of the people where it will take me longer to recovery, but I can tell you that you will get through this. Just keep fighting because it is worth it to get your life back.
I have been off of Metoprolol 25 mg for about 2 months. I had one of those hot moments today...not sure what they are. I was on metoprolol for 4 years and never missed a dose. I have had a few episodes of psvt, but my heart rate settled down quickly. I don't miss taking that beta blocker!!
Fuzzy, what were your side effects while on metoprolol and how soon did your HR settle down after stopping?
Did you wean off or just quit cold?
Hey I also get the hotness to,Sometimes in my stomach,or neck area,I think that's the anxiety flaring up
Matt, I did not have many side effects, but I did not sleep well(would wake in middle of night with anxious thoughts) The reason I got off the metoprolol was because my pulse rate dropped to 40 and I had no energy. My Dr. advised me to stop cold turkey. I could not do that and I weaned myself off slowly, probably taking 6 weeks total. One day I realized that I had stopped taking any and I felt fine. I have had a few psvts(paroxsymal supra ventricular tachycardia), but they are manageable with a stress free lifestyle. Some would say it's a boring lifestyle, but I am happy!
Oh my goodness...we went to a theme park today for my sons bday. I started out by walking. I thought I could make it. It was easily 100 degrees out. Anyway, I ended up getting a scooter because I was so lightheaded and heart rate 150. Im not quite 7 months off. Anyone else having trouble in the heat? I had a lot of shortness of breath too.
