Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 70) (Top voted first)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Did anyones withdrawal seem to peak after about a month? I feel worse now then the first week! Felt like I was gonna pass out at the store tonight. So lightheaded and dizzy. It was horrible. I feel just ok as long as im not moving around much. But if I walk around or clean I get head pressure and light headed. So wierd!! I hope someone can relate.
Having a bad day today !!! Ughh. I was for a good hour at work i almost felt like i was going to pass out . Started feeling flushed, chills ,dizzy , headache and tension for like 1 hour and then it went away . Now i feel weak and tired . Its so hard
I have the worst chills i have had in a while . Woke up a couple times feeling cold but i was sweating is this normal ?
I wish i knew my friend told it is probably harder on us because most of us are probably still taking some sort of meds while going thru this . Its not like we can stop and detox our bodies .but i hear peaches , drinking cranberry juice and lots of water are things people use to detox and clean liver naturally
I'm feeling slightly better too. Just have the high heart rate upon exertion and some dizziness. Im hoping that goes away with time. Slight depression still.
Thats awesome sandra!! What have you been taking ? I feel some what the same but can't shake off the anxiety and some times tension
Thats how is felt when i took the zoloft . I felt like i just hit a restart button to this crappy feeling . But i didnt take it today so hopefully i can get back on this hard road we are all facing
I know of several cases where "patient complaints" have made the FDA take action. Please take that link seriously, but don't take the mountain of psycho-babble too seriously. As much ash FDA would like you to think only an MD or a PhD has the standing to report an ADVERSE EVENT, that's so so. There is a phone number or two that you can call for assistance, listed right on the first page. Also research metoprolol withdrawal protocols. Im only an exert with "abusable drugs" in terms of knowing protocols, but it seems that slow withdrawal and some back up from Xanax or Klonopin should enable you guys to get off the drug,
I hAve lone afib. Only going into afib three times in 4 years. Each time IV drip in hospital and 12 hours later back into sinus rythm and went home. This last time was last Tuesday February 8th. I have been prescribed metoprolol 25 MG ER once a day. So I've been taking it now for 7 days and I want to stop.
Will I experience with drawl side effects after taking this for 7 days if I stop now?
Anita P be careful with any statin. I cannot take any of them. I've tried 4 plus Red Yeast Rice which actually has small side of Lipitor like properties I'm told. I get terrible cramps in feet and hands after about 10-12 days. I'm taking Krill Oil now and it seems to have helped mine. Not yelling you what to do just sharing my experience. I tried Zetia for a month just took show cardiologist I wasn't making up symptoms. I had terrible gall bladder like stomach pains and have had my gall bladder removed!
Good luck and prayers you can get over the problems.
CJJ88, it seems that many of us have had similar problems, not only with socializing, but with all of the rebound effects that go along with it. When I first started weaning off the drug, I found myself with terrible anxiety, and a simple walk around the house would result in chest pain, heart palps, dizziness, high blood pressure & heart rate.....you name it. I had to cancel everything outside of the home during my four or five weeks of weaning as well as during most of the five-week withdrawal period. The "fog" or "weird" head just put me into an entirely different dimension of life. I felt as though I had nothing to live for other than trying to get through each day one day at a time. If anything felt like hell on earth, this was it. One of the first days where I began to feel better I decided to do an errand that required walking just one block from my house. My body just seemed to refuse that type of exercise, and it resulted in an ambulance trip to the ER. And, this is coming from someone who typically bikes 25 per day during the warmer months and walks a minimum of two miles a day during the winter. Unfortunately, the vast majority of side effects we've had or still are enduring are all a part of getting off of this drug. It wasn't until I found this website that I finally realized I wasn't alone in this.
Just to be clear, I absolutely will not take tapazole , I am using the thyroid calming natural tincture. No more big pharma for me !
Been a challenging day here, very woozy head, but no palps. Trying to remain positive. First it takes this board forever to post that long message, and then I discover they posted it twice, sorry guys!
Lauren..so if we don't take anything for thyroid it wont reset itself or get better?
Loneafib... I'm not a physician but after a bit week you're maybe just getting some changes from Met. Be careful stopping because of possible rebound high blood pressure.
Going to a new cardiologist today . Hope everything works out with this one since the last one messed me up with the M . She put me on 200 mgs of the M For 10 months
No i havent i felt better but i bought some in case i do eat something heavy. Thanks LonaAfib for the info !!!
Michael, I know you want off metoprolol. How long have you been on it? How much have you been taking?
CJ in the Vale.... Maybe the caffeine in chocolates is the problem wirh palpitations. Usually told to avoid a of caffeine wirh Metoprolol. Also need to drink the recommended 7-8 glasses of water to keep from being dehydrated also.
Lone Afib, sounds like your vagal nerve is being pressured. Eat lightly and often, avoid grains and dairy. Tons of water.!
Hope you feel better Lauren. I have been struggling this past days 2 too . Day by day thats what i keep telling myself . How long you been off this stuff ?
