Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 60)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Anyone familiar with POTS? I was told thats what I had in the beginning when I was put on the beta blocker. Then I saw 2 more docs that said no I didnt have POTS so thats when we decided to wean off the bb. I had a horrid sinus infection that they think caused either deconditioning or some kind of virus that caused fast heart rate when walking around. Now im worried that this isnt withdrawal and is in fact POTS. When I take the bb, the withdrawal goes away but it could also be helping the POTS. I have read this whole board again and can relate with everyone but having a hard time believing im withdrawling after 2 months. Im a wreck today..someone convince me its withdrawal haha.

One thing that makes me think its NOT POTs is because I feel better in the evenings. PoTs is opposite. They tend to feel worse as the day goes on.

Sorry for the 3rd post...Is it possible that bb withdrawal is similar to that of benzos withdrawal? When I looked up "tight pressure in head when walking", a benzo withdrawal poppes up and I had alllll the same symptoms.

The better-in-the-evening phenomenon is a hallmark of thyroid issues.

Still a daily crap shoot here. Working on tweaking supps and tincture so they help me better. Lord I sure wish it were easier.

I am making very small improvements each day with setbacks here and there. Anxiety is still very prevalent but I am going to keep fighting it. I guess I will be one of those people that gradually come out of it which sucks. Prayers for all.

Similar to my experience a frwcyesrscback. I was diagnosed with
WPW. Wolf Parkinsins White syndrome.
Were you checked for that? It is not super common. I remember the extreme anxiety and rapid heart rate. Good luck

I think if everyone thats still going thru this could post their symptoms it might help someone. I know it would help me :) I get light headed if I try to do house work like sweep or mop. Still get anxiety and fast heart rate when moving around too much. I tend to feel better in the evening. Been off almost 3 mo.

TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3,
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies
Thyroglobulin Antibodies
Don't let them leave any of the above out, or something could be easily missed.

A friend of mine (recovering alcoholic) had a backslide, from painkillers he was taking (with the knowledge of his counselors). However, he also had a real stink of alcohol. He swears he didn't touch a drop, and that the smell was caused by metoprolol.

I can't find a single instance of this side effect. I should mention that he's also borderline diabetic, with extremely high blood sugar.

Before I write him off as completely untrustworthy - has ANYONE ever heard of this?

Never heard of M causing breath to smell like alcohol. Sorry your friend is so untrustworthy that can be quite painful:/

No John , that is not a side effect of M. Please distance yourself from this poor soul until he decided to get himself clean and sober.
