Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 121)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2400)
Hahaahah i don’t know if it ever gets better. This is just so funny i get those pains as well also, i have made a list of all the diseases that i have diagnosed myself with so that i can remind myself its all in my head but my mind is so out of control it lets me believe that this is different this time and i might actually have something you know what i mean!
Re: RV (# 2399)
It’s not ALS. Metoprolol is a STRONG inverse agonist. So it doesn’t just “block” the receptors. It completely stops them from working. The body will replenish and grow the receptors that were “blocked” but it takes time. So all of those beta 1 receptors were rendered non functional and slowly dwindled away. The body will grow new receptors to balance out. Again it takes time though.
Re: Juliya (# 2402)
So the twitches and all the weird sensations that happen are because of metoprolol where can i read more about it because general search in google i have read most of the articles . I am really sorry that i bother you so much i am clueless like why this thing keeps happening to me and i always assume the worst case scenario and now its ALS
Re: RV (# 2403)
I’ve read the thread between the three of you and I have experienced almost all of everything you’ve talked about with metoprolol. I have an ablation scheduled for March 5th and hopefully it all will subside then. I have frequent pvcs and tachycardia with them hence the reason why I’m having the ablation. I’m so glad I was able to read some of your thread because it felt like it was just me going through this and the anxiety of it all is really getting the best of me right now. Thanks for the information you guys have chatted about!
Re: RV (# 2403)
What type of twitches are you getting?
Re: Al (# 2404)
I’m glad we were able to help calm some of your fears. I’m also glad that you are getting the ablation you need. How long ago did you stop the metoprolol? What dose were you on and why were you taking it? If you don’t mind my asking.
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2405)
Just below right chest i am getting these weird twitches/flutters which obviously my hypochondriac mind makes me believe thats its ALS. Also, my hr shot up to 208 upon standing and came back to 90s in 50 seconds my doctors said that my sympathetic system is going crazy and this is something that would heal with time.
Re: Al (# 2404)
I’d say welcome to this forum but the things that we all are going through i would wish no one ever goes through this. How are you doing? How old are you?
Re: Juliya (# 2406)
I’m still taking it. I have to be off of it for three days prior to ablation procedure. I was only on 25 mg since November and have tried the cold turkey thing with no luck. My electrophysiologist said I can just quit taking it. Tried that and didn’t go so well. So I’m tapering right now I take 6.25 twice daily but have only been taking it once a day. Still crazy headaches feels like I’m hung over all day long. Haven’t had the tachycardia too much nothing too serious. My pulse was always in the upper 80’s to 90’s before metoprolol anyways. Probably because of my pvc’s.
Re: RV (# 2407)
I am 44 I have had PVCs since they found them when I left the Air Force back in 99. They never really affected me until about a year and a half ago. I tried the medicine route but now I realize I should’ve had the ablation instead. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
Re: Al (# 2409)
What is your PVC burden? Are they also ablating for the tachycardia?
Welcome to this madness lol
Txcandy1 (# 2410) --
Last may it was at 16%. I just did a four day monitor and it was less than 1. But that’s because I’m on metoprolol and flecainide. But the side effects are crazy right now. I’ve also lost about 50 pounds with the flecainide and watching what I’m eating. I think metoprolol is making me lose some too. I’m hoping to be off both meds after the ablation. That is the goal for me and my EP. I hope they fix the tachycardia also but he seems to think it is related to my PVCs. They think they are happening from the left posterior fascicle area.
Re: Juliya (# 2406)
Did your wave finally end? Were you blood sugars always elevated or was it because of metoprolol ?
Re: RV (# 2413)
It was because of the metoprolol. I was never a diabetic. Now they get ridiculously high! When I’m in a wave. They stay pretty normal when I’m in a window though.
Re: Juliya (# 2414)
You lost 40 pounds and now have T2 diabetes everyday i learn a new thing about this drug. How often do you check your sugars? I checked mine in December.
Re: RV (# 2415)
I have a continuous glucose monitor. I use the free style libre. So I check it all day long.
Re: Juliya (# 2416)
Was doing good this morning and then I ate a snack and after felt these dizzy/adrenaline sensations. My heart is now sitting at 125/130 and I feel awful!!!
it’s like I could barely tolerate any amount of food and I feel crazy, dizzy, weird sensations, adrenaline and now heart rate at 130. It’s hard not to freak out and not think I’m having a heart attack
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2417)
Man i can totally related my hr jumps after having food. From last 2-3 days my hr has jumped 205 bpm for a minute after getting up from laying it feels so tiring and my doctor dismissing it as anxiety. How long does the elevsted hr stay? Also, my previous reply just went through now
Re: Juliya (# 2416)
Ah nice! Is there a way to check gaba and glutamate activity i was wondering how to balance the excessive glutamate activity since i have been spending close to 5-6 hours googling symptoms and i want to stop that
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2417)
Did you start the ivabridine yet?
