Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 105)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

When i read about them a few days ago the article said its common to have PVC they and not serious if it is less than 20000 beats in a day . Did you have some chest pain after stopping metoprolol? I will definitely ask my cardiologist for a holter monitor!
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2080)
So glad this thing is getting better for you probably time is all we need. PVC are common from what i hear! The worst part about us getting heart rate spikes was getting it while doing nothing which used to spoil my entire day . Is the implant monitoring you 24*7? Also did you ever get chest pains?
Re: RV (# 2081)
I did have chest pain. ALOT of it. The symptoms from the withdrawal seemed to hit me a bit worse than they did my girl TXcandy. And it still pops in every once in awhile when I get anxiety and high heart rate. It will eventually get better though.
Re: RV (# 2082)
Ugh! While my standing HR has been low this week, the last few nights I have been feeling a lot of PVCS when I lay down for bed and it’s driving my anxiety up. I am not catching them on my Apple Watch. Not sure if I should call the cardio or not but I’m not sure I’ve had these before unless I just wasn’t aware and now I’m hyper aware :(
I didn’t really have the chest pain that a lot of people seemed to have on here but maybe once or twice.
Yes, the implant monitors 24/7 and sends the report to the dr office at midnight each day and then they read the report every day. You also have a button you can press if you’re having an episode and it will highlight 5 min before and 5 min after for the dr to see what was going on during your episode: it marks the report and LOOK at this lol
Yes! I feel you on those high HR days. At the beginning I would just walk to the bathroom and it would spike to 135. It’s so frustrating. I don’t have patience and I want an answer and solution now, lolol so this 6 + month monitoring has been brutal for my medical anxiety
Re: RV (# 2082)
I meant I AM catching the PVCs on my Apple Watch
Re: Juliya (# 2083)
What was your coping mechanism i am sure it would have been scary and stressful? I also cannot like sit for 2-3 hours straight at a place dont know if thats from withdrawal but i feel better after taking a walk did this happen to you as well?
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2084)
I also cannot figure how did i end up being so hypersensitive i was never like this! I’ll tell you a habit that i have developed in last 3 months i’d put my right hand on my chest to check the pulse or see if my heart is beating all this is impulsively and i do it everyday don’t know what purpose does it solve but i do it!!
For me walking heart rate was around 100-110 but it was those sudden spikes out of nowhere to 150 for a minute or two that scared me. The doctor said its normal and there is nothing wrong with my heart but somehow my mind doesnt accept it and seeks answer which worsens anxiety which causes more symptoms. This feels like a never ending loop to me. Did you have any breathing issues while on the med and without it as well!

What you are feeling with the having to get up and walk is akathisia and that is also part of the withdrawal. As far as coping, I just tell myself that’s it withdrawal and it will eventually end! There is really nothing else you can do. Time! It heals all.
Juliya (# 2087) --
Haha off topic how did you end up finding so much ? yesterday i learnt about gaba receptors and now today akathisia. Thats what i feel i mean when i am just laying around feel this weird thing which isnt pain or tingling some weird sensation around left side which goes away as i move around! How the hell did we end up being so sensitive and hyper aware? I guess i’ll have to learn some sort of coping mechanism anyways i am taking ayurvedic medicines as well which is helping to a certain extent with my withdrawal effects. I sincerely wish this goes as soon as possible

Another symptom of my withdrawal was OCD and health anxiety. I couldn’t understand what was going on with my body and neither did any of my doctors. So I started researching on my own. I work in medical so I’m familiar with all of terminology and only relied on reputable case studies and articles. For months all I would was research. I also found out that most doctors know very little about the medications they prescribe. It’s kind of disheartening. I will never put another pill in my mouth ever after all of this.
Re: RV (# 2086)
I’m the same way. I check my Apple Watch 3837383 times a day and take Multiple ecgs on the Apple watch as well. I just want to go back to normal or find a solution and fix it.
I think the anxiety and stress is causing me more symptoms as well and it’s just a never ending cycle of stressing out. Waiting the 3/4 months in between cardio check dragssssssss and that stresses me out too. I do think I was having some sort of something which is why i first went to the ER but the beta blocker just compounded the symptoms and made everything 100 times worse. The first weeks coming off the beta blocker was complete HELL.

Same here i have scouted every possible source that i could find. Came on this forum through Bob’s comment on another website which is patient info it also has 430 odd replies which was started by Dee and Bob was pretty active there as well wonder how he is doing now! I have OCD and health anxiety too my right hand goes around my heart and i try to feel my heart beats i feel so stupid all the time. The time spent by doctor to listen and prescribe this med was 10 mins tops i wonder how can one decide based on 10-15 min interaction NEVER AGAIN!

Well I’m having a miserable night. Having lots of PVCS as I’m lying in bed so I thought I would try to take some magnesium. Felt crazy within 20
Minutes of taking it. Seriously I can’t take anything now due to M. My system is so jacked. I hope this gets out of my system soon. I’m trying not to panic which will send me to the ER. These PVCs and I’m feeling crazy cuz of the supplement is not good for the anxiety. :( when will this END
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2093)
Hang in there we’ll get better soon! PVC aren’t harmful and will go away on their own! We have become sensitive and sadly every minute bodily actions leads to major scrutinising i get anxiety out of nowhere imagine getting anxiety while you are watching the office.
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2093)
I think you are getting close to the end MAMA. Just hang in there. Most people describe a severe increase in symptoms for a couple of months right before they completely heal. I think you will be fully healed by 12 months. Maybe 10. Just keep beasting through. You got this!
Re: RV (# 2094)
I would get severe anxiety rewatching game of thrones. I would get very anxious and cry at EVERY episode. It’s never happened when watching the office though.
Re: Juliya (# 2096)
New weird symptom alert feel tingly near abdomen sometimes. Did you start doing workouts or some exercises? I hate to live in this constant fear of something happening taking one day at a time. Also, are you taking any supplements?
Re: RV (# 2097)
I’m am not taking anything any longer. I took CoQ10 supplements for a week which did help. But I stopped because my body needs to learn to heal and function on its own. Some supplements will make things worse because your body is now so sensitive to everything that goes in it until it heals completely. There is really no cure for any of these things. You just have to let your body heal and do it on its own time. It’s scary and hard but it will end eventually. The only thing I can suggest is taking daily walks, eating healthy, and cutting out caffeine and sugars. Those things will definitely help. It may take a couple of weeks to feel the effects of the change but they do help.
Re: Juliya (# 2096)
Guys! I ended up in the ER. I tried to hold out but from 10:30 to 3:30 with the PVCs and I swear the magnesium supplement gave me a Hr spike and crazy feelings my HR was at 145 and would not go down for hours. They wanted to give me a beta blocker and I said no and explained the whole ordeal and finally agreed to the teensiest dose of channel blocker 5mg. He said the usual is 30mg and he said the 5mg should it warrant any side effects like I had even with a super sensitive system. Will this JACK me up now? Is my whole progress out the door? Am I going to get nasty rebound tachy? I just didn’t see any way around it. HR was sitting at 145 and and I was feeling so nasty :(
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2099)
Was it a calcium channel blocker? If it was, You should be fine. Beta blockers and calcium channel blockers work on different neurotransmitter receptors so the calcium channel blocker will not affect the receptors that are trying to heal from the beta blocker. I’m sorry that it got that bad for you. That sucks it reved up so high for you.
