Metoprolol Side Effects (Page 2)
UpdatedI started Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg being one tab every 12 hours. I was in the hospital with a blood pressure of 200/130, sometimes higher with a high pulse and irregular heartbeat. I experienced tightening in chest, slight difficulity in breathing, and extreme variables in my pressures. Most of the time they are in the normal range, but occasionally my systolic has dropped under 100 and my diastolic was 58. I am monitoring my foods and am also taking Ativan twice daily. I am terrified. Anybody else have these variables in pressures? I have only been on the medicines for four weeks now. I have had diabetes and thyroid neg testing. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder??? Never heard of it before. All my family including five siblings have high blood pressure as well.
Yes my FNP just changed my Lisinopril 10 mg to Metoprolol 2 x 25 mg. Day 2 third dose it's as if I didn't take any meds at all. I got on a Doc. Post and Web MD you can safely take both together, however, since I am unable to reach my FNP it's Sunday I am going back to Lisinopril 10 mg. until Monday.
I have a panic disorder to and like some people are saying 'not all drugs work for everyone.'
I will be the one who does say, this drug works for me along with my anxiety meds that I take, which is Prozac. I take 25mg Metoprolol and 60mg Prozac. I have been on on Paxil, Buspar, Abilify, Zoloft Effexor and Lexapro. Surprisingly out of those, Paxil, Buspar and Zoloft don't work well on me and I get worsening panic attacks. Effexor works somewhat but not fully haha.
Anyway, I hope whoever reads this or sees this knows that Metoprolol isn't for everyone and I hope you find something to help with your anxiety!
has anyone had nightmares, or vivid dreams from taking metoprolol. Waking up from sleep with these dreams and have racy feeling, palpitations, numbness in arms and pain in the jaw?
For those of you that are have medication problems get your Medical care provider to change you at once this is serious stuff don't suffer with this product. There are at least 7 different type's of Blood Pressure meds available you may need to test out a couple until you find the right one Lisinopril has minimum side effects for the most part. Also, get some Hibiscus Tea or Hibiscus dried Flowers to make tea. It is a proven Blood Pressure lowering product check WEB MD for details.
Please do not start taking that pill it's the worst mistake you could make bad side effects both starting and coming off.
YES! Seems to depend on various factors, but I've had VERY weird, and vivid dreams, nightmares to normal people (LOL), night sweats, various aches and pains, and basically feeling SO exhausted that I have to lay down after coming home from a barely 6 hour work day where I did nothing physical! I have also had VERY bad vision problems-Like super cloudy/wavy vision...Think this was a withdrawal symptom, but also have had "de-focused" vision, like the way it looks if you need reading glasses, which I don't need...I'm near-sighted... The exhaustion is the worst, and although I just started cutting my pills in half (taking 50mg once a day instead of 100mg) I already have noticed my energy level is back to/close to normal... My energy level also seems strongly effected by dehydration, as:
1. I don't drink much water and drink too many caffeinated bevs-coffee/coke/frappacinos
2. I smoke, which raises my BP, although generally only a few points, not massively
3. As an American, I intake way too much sodium! Today I had a Chicken sandwich/curly fries/coke meal from Jack ITB and it was 2400!!!! mg sodium!! ONE MEAL! That's ridiculous!
4. I'm not super fat, but still carrying an extra 40 lbs at 6'2"...which of course affects my energy level
5. Have a bad habit of staying up too late and getting 5-6 hours sleep/night, or even less..
So do YOU have any of these bad habits? I'd suggest getting regular sleep, drinking LOTS of water, eating some fruit everyday, cutting back on packaged foods and fast foods, and going for a walk every day, even at a relaxed pace...
You should also give the meds 2 weeks or so, and the exhaustion SHOULD at least reduce in intensity...IF it doesn't:
1. Try switching to the NAME BRAND (Toprol XL I believe) version of the drug (assuming you are taking a generic)
2. Talk to your DR about it and see if something else might work better...
I'm on my 4th BP med, mostly because when I got on the first-second, I was dealing with a newly formed hiatal hernia and a viral infection, and other issues, and couldn't separate my physical symptoms from the meds' side effects...So I kept switching meds, hoping to clear up the phys problems...Didn't work though...
Also-Be aware that MET can and caused me to have negative thoughts, complete lack of interest in day to day activities, and anxiety....generalized....It basically sets your anxiety level higher than normal and your brain then "fills in the blanks" with whatever your specific "default worries" are...So if it's your spouse cheating, your kids getting hurt, losing your job, money problems, whatever, that's what you will become anxious about...Make sense?
I've been on metoprol for many years an now my Dr has taken me off it cold Turkey is this not also dangerous! Worried about what may happen to my heart.
For positive results in a hurry if your blood pressure shoots up get some Hibiscus Tea and keep it on hand. You can drink three cups in 24 hours safely. Hibiscus lowers blood pressure reasonably quick. It tastes delicious with a little honey. It is very bright red in color. It should calm your nerves immediately, safe and effective. My NP changed me to Lisinopril 20 mg. I have not had any problems since.
Is it hard to really get off this metoprolol tartrate 12.5 mg twice a day for about a month
I just got discharged from the hospital today from taking for 3 days Lisinopril HCTZ 12.5 mg which give me high pulse, nausea, dizziness and bad palpations. E.R. kept me in observation for some hours and they kept me for one day. They changed my blood pressure med to metoprolol 25mg, twice a day 12.5 am snd 12.5 pm which was given to me at the hospital and My blood pressure dropped immediately and goodbye palpations!!! So love my new med, no dude effects.
I have been on Meteprolol and feel like crap. Have had low HR as low as 40 which is bad. I have tried to wean myself off this crap but my heart will start to race. It never did this before so I will have to be on a different med. All these meds are crap and dangerous in my opinion. All have side effects people , just watch the commercials on meds and look at all the side effects they produce. Meteprolol did great for about a year on very low dose now I feel like crap everyday. My BP readings the last 4 or 5 months was from 110/70 to 140/85 on a average. I had a very stressful thing happen in my life and tried to take the bigger dose the doc prescribed which about put me in the hospital . Im going to the doc in 2 weeks and tell him to give me a different med or meds. Hope everyone reads this and finds comfort that its not in your head but what the docs give us. I have been on quite a few meds and many have had one side effect or another. I can relate to many posts on here about this drug. Im getting off it .
Horrible Med!!Take a look at ' Metoprolol Withdrawal ' Thread for more.... we have all been 'had'
I am having heart problem in 2011 valve replacement done (MVR) (Metal Valve) I am taking tab Acitrom 6/6/4 & Prolomet XL50 mg. now I am having legs swelling what is the reason any side effects of Prolomet XL50.
I take metoprolol tartrate (lopressor) due to hypertension and A Fib. My dosage is 100 mg. twice a day. Plus using a bp patch once weekly. Doctor told me that the metoprolol would make me feel tired and it does. I also get light headed or dizzy when arising from a seated position. My bp would fluctuate from 132 to 180 on the top. I was to have a radio frequency ablation on my heart in January. My instruction sheet stated to go off metoprolol three days before the procedure because it controls your heart rate somewhat. I was having this procedure done out of town. The very next day I felt something zip over the top of my head. Checked bp jumped to 200/120 heart rate 100. I had clonidine tab to take in case of emergency. Took one lowered to 120/80 within two hours. Rescheduled procedure for Feburary Monday the 29th. My cardiologists told me when I went off the Metoprolol for the procedure to take Norvasc 10 mg in place of it. Sunday evening before procedure scheduled for 5 am on Monday I had to go to ER with Bp of 180/115 heart rate of 125 because I was in rapid A Fib. Lowered heart rate and bp with Cardizem so I could have procedure done. Two weeks post op I am back on metoprolol plus the Norvasc. Highest bp I have had is 127/85 heart rate stays between 64-68. I am elated over the bp. Two days it stayed around 95/70. No a fib so far. Going off my Multaq (heart rate med) in the middle of April to see if I go into A fib. Without the medication. Keeping my fingers crossed. This was my second heart ablation. First time Dec. 2014. Wishing everyone better health.
See your Doctor or get a second opinion. There are multiple blood pressure drugs on the market and, depending on your personal chemistry this drug may be the wrong one for you. I could not use it. I had an immediate elevation in my blood pressure which, sent me to the emergency room. I am back on 10 mg of Lisinopril and it does make me a little dizzy from time to time and it causes me to cough more frequently than normal but, it keeps my blood pressure stable. I also, drink Hibiscus tea from the Hibiscus flowers it is a natural for lowering blood pressure. Absolutely no red meat, no pork,no bacon low salt or no salt I use herbs for flavoring my cooking.. I only eat Turkey, Chicken, Fish and lots of Vegetables and fruits and nuts for snacks. We Blood Pressure patients must change our entire diets and old eating habits if we want to live. I also, without any other efforts I lost about 29 pounds just from eating properly I am never hungry and I do occasionally eat chocolate (DARK) It's easier than you think. There are lots of foods on the market today and a multitude of greats recipes on YouTube for us. I hope this helps Get better soon.
I want to get off metropolol tartrate. I have PVC as determined by Holter monitor. I do not feel them. Taking 25 mg . Makes me very tired. And depressed. Dr. Says my dosage is low so there should not be a problem. She says it will probably not stop PVC. Had nuclear stress test no coronary heart disease. Been on it for two months. To stop night pill for one week and day pill for one week then stop.
Update had ablation February 29. So far I have not had Afib. as of today's date. I am currently on Metoprolol tartrate plus clonidine patch. Been off Multaq since April 15. Feel so much better. Will be fitted with a heart Holter on June 13 to wear for 30 days. If everything turns out well then I will be declared a fib free keeping my fingers crossed and praising God
Thanks this was helpful. I am scheduled to see a nutritionist.
What is an ablation? I do not know why that procedure is done?
