Hello DEE....so you are saying that you take 440mgs of oxy PER DAY? ? I can't help but wonder how? That amount cannot EVEN be legally prescribed, not to mention that NO insurance company would authorize those amounts. ..with that being said, sadly, you are going to have one HELL of a nasty time trying to find someone or something to help with your pain! You really should consider a SLOW and gradual taper over the next several months for your own benefit! Talk with a COMPASSIONATE Pain Specialist and get some help with your situation. Perhaps a Pain Pump along with anti anxiety or lower dosage breakthrough meds? And no, I AM NOT judging you or your condition, I am in pain management myself. WALJ: Subutex and Suboxone are basically the same drug. The only reason that Naloxone is even in Suboxone is to keep addicts from injecting it. Yes, Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist, partial antagonist. Naloxone itself is a full on opioid antagonist. Your information is confusing because you are talking about what is basically the same drug being used it two different ways. This makes no sense to me. Again, the ONLY reason Naloxone is in Suboxone is to keep people from injecting the Bupe. But FUNCTIONALLY, they are the same drug.

Suboxone is to bring you off of opiates, not only opiat that are injected but anyway you use them.I hope you don't think it's used for pain because it takes away 0%of my pain.

WEST: Actually, many people successfully use Subutex/Suboxone for pain relief. It seems to work better for people who have no prior opioid treatment or tolerance. But just because it doesn't work for YOU for pain, doesn't mean it won't work for others, because it can and does work for many.

Have you ever taken it for chronic pain? Doesn't sound like you have. I have fibromyalgia and have suffered from extreme pain for over 20 years which got me addicted to opiates. I needed something to treat the pain that I wouldn't abuse. I had to quit working before I had suboxone bc of the pain. But once I was prescribed suboxone I felt like an entirely new person. And my Dr didn't say anything different to me than he did when he gave me bottles of NSAIDS, Vicodin, OxyContin, etc. And I knew which of those worked and which ones didn't. So there's NO DIFFERENCE in the prescription he gave me of suboxone.

I AM frustrated, though, bc I have a new dr (old Dr retired) and he keeps lowering my dose. I was at 8mg 3x/day. I had been there around 10 years and life had been great. He brought me down to 8mg 2x/day. I tried it but am definitely hurting more to the point of seeking out alternative treatments like nerve cauterizing and things like that. NOW my dr just lowered me again by a half a pill a day. I don't understand what he's doing but I'm going to have to search for a new dr.

KAREN: If what you are doing is working, your doctor should leave you where you are with it. That is ridiculous. I have never heard of a doctor trying to lower someone's Suboxone levels unless the PATIENT wanted to do it. Have you asked this doctor WHY he is doing this? I would be curious as to what he/she has to say.

You need to go on Suboxone.com and enter your zip code. Find another Suboxone doctor in your area, and explain to them what is going on.

And yes, it is ridiculous for someone to say that Suboxone (or WHATEVER) absolutely doesn't work for pain. You are not the first person I have heard of who has had success with it. Good luck to you.

It actually can be used for pain.i was on morphine plus many other meds, for many years, but due to ongoing side effects, i had to get off of them.i was switched over to suboxone....worked @ first and now im in consant pain.i wish there was a substitute for meds. Finding they work for awhile and then i get immuned and then they dont.i dont think alot of drs. Dont know what to do, due to lack of research.hope you get feeling better or find a trtment that works.pass it on if you find something that does work

Last message was for West, sorry I didn't state that in my first post. I have chronic pain in my back and left hip, leg, fibromyalgia and a list of labels. I have seen many doctors. Been going to a pain clinic now for 7yrs. Now i have started to see an internist. Hoping he can help. If anyone has any ideas on how you control your pain PLEASE SHARE. I'm getting desperate. My pain level has been a 10 for a long while now and no quality of life.

SHERRIE: Have you tried CBD? It is the part of medical marijuana that helps pain, especially neuropathic pain such as Fibromyalgia, but without the typical "high" that you would get from marijuana. It is available online, and is legal in all 50 states, as long as it has no THC in it (the part of marijuana that makes you feel high). I use it for my chronic migraines and it has reduced them GREATLY. Let me know if you are interested in some links. There are tons of products out there, and many of them are fake. I can link you to the ones that I use that are some of the best out there. With any opioids there is always that "tolerance" problem, but I haven't noticed that happening with the CBD products.

Thank you! My Dr, who is not a pain specialist, says I'm supposed to get better pain control by a lesser dose. This makes no sense to me. I do see a pain specialist so I'm going to see if he can prescribe the medication. My pain specialist is going to do a ketamine treatment that's brand new. I'm pretty excited about it. They give me ketamine IV four times either four days in a row or four months in a row. Somehow it's supposed to "reset" the brain like a computer reboots. This is so new my Dr is waiting to get approved to do the treatment. As soon as he's approved I'll be scheduled.

I agree that Suboxone can be used for chronic pain, I was on pain pills for ten years,and it kept talking more and more and even then they messed with my mind more than they helped the pain. I could on get Suboxone for opiod addiction,but I got lucky and the Dr. I have, understood,and though we discussed it and came up with a plan and I don't mention it.the dose I take is 14/3.5. I normally take morning does of 10/2 and then later in evening I take 4/1.5, if needed, sometimes it's not needed.Since being up and about makes my pain worse.So it doesn't mess with mind and it helps my pain and when pain is more I can take evening does and it is almost instantly stopped.and I am not on the rollercoaster. I try to stick with my morning dose as much as possible but it helps me to take evening dose and am not kept awake writhing in pain unable to sleep and the next morning I don't wake up reaching for pain meds immediately. I Hope every one realizes this and it will become normal to take Suboxone for chronic pain instead of having to take opioids 5,10,15 years and all the problems.For me it is a long awaited answer. I wish it had been option earlier. Hope this helps

I'm sorry for your pain! I understand where you are coming from I've got to live with chronic pain due to a bad car accident 7 years ago. And I have been through same ordeal, but you definitely have more problems then I do. But what helpedcme after all the pain pills didn't was Methadone. Yes I am on a very high dose through a Methadone clinic, but that's because I felt I was becoming addicted to the pain pills because they stopped helping, was like taking Tylenol or Advil. I'm at 120mg but 1 time a day and I'm able too go all day pain free. Its just a suggestion but if Suboxone didn't work don't know if Methadone will help. But whatever you do I hope you can find the relief you so desperately need.

Yes, having made the mistake of retiring in milder climate (michigan-chattanooga TN), I can assure you the legislators (poss. 2014?) declared max daily buprenorphine/Suboxone dose not exceed 24mg. Today, it can only be prescribed for addiction.. ABUSE of..by many sharing/swapping at Clinics gave it a similar bad name as the mainstream opioids. Kratom banned, marijuana a no no, (they want your car), and I had ulcerative cramps, death row kind..2 mo. ago. All 3 Chattanooga ER's full..sit they said and wait..I apologize if this sounds bitter..no longer..joined several pain support groups, pray, stay social, and wrote dozens of "we have a chronic pain Epidemic"..and petitions, etc. Very high homeless problem and yet I love the mountains, people, weather is mild, yet I am planning to move to Emery University. Med..Atlanta. Loved Suboxone for depression and moderate pain. Educate and advocate.

I'm so sorry you're going through that! It sounds horrible. We have a family friend who is a doctor and my aunt keeps in touch with him. He works for a pain management clinic. He was saying how his heart breaks every day because he WANTS to help these people who come in his office, but he can only help so many and only to a point because of the DEA. TWO patients from that office recently committed suicide in the past year because of insufficiently treated chronic pain. I'm a Suboxone patient myself for addiction. For myself, personally, my first doctor's visit was $400+ cost of meds. Then the next week, it was $300+ cost of meds. Then, I would go every two weeks for a month at $230+ cost of meds a visit. After that, it's $230 a month, PLUS you have to pay for the actual prescription at the pharmacy, which for me is $600 cash a month. So, every month, IN CASH, I have to pay $830 a month ($230 for Dr., and $600 for meds.) However, for the first 2 months, it is MUCH more expensive. It almost put me on the street and I cannot change my insurance to one that covers the meds AND the doctor until November. So, I can totally understand why some people have chosen to get them through other means. It's crazy that TN only allows Subs for addiction though. I don't know anyone that is prescribed it for pain, but I've heard of it.

Here in Oklahoma. It only costs us 100 a month for the dr and I only go in every other month. Our insurance helps pay for the suboxone. We could not pay that much a month.
Even with our insurance all my meds cost 350 a month. My dr is both pain management and addiction specialist. He also prescribes my meds for bipolar. Neurontin for both mood swings and pain. Also flexeril, cymbalta and wellbutrin.

One of my drs said a lower dose of suboxone is more effective in treating pain. He tapered me down from 24 mg a day to 12mg a day. I was getting scared at such a low dose and was starting to have breakthrough pain. So I changed drs and got my dose back up to 24 mg/ day. My issue is I'm hurting MORE now. I'm so confused. Does anyone have any clue what's going on?

I've also had three Ketamine infusions done. I'm very disappointed. My dr wants to try again and do four next time. I'm willing to try anything at this point. I'm so freaking tired of being in pain.
