Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 16) (Top voted first)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Thanks Nick. I only just found your message here. I'll register with the law firm you suggested. Many thanks. Part of the problem is that we're all so exhausted from all this...that to continue the fight is often overwhelming.

Got back from the specialist today, and I do need a hearing aid. Still dealing with double vision too. He asked if I knew the onset of this condition. When I said it was
when I took lyrica, he looked it up and then said, no, it must be a coincidence, because they don't list it as a side effect. With this type of mentality I don't hold much hope. I contact a couple lawyers a week in Canada and have not found anyone interested.

Don't be surprised. I'm a RN and a Lyrica "survivor". I've been to soo may doctors that I have a new image of them. I used to think of them as being based in the scientific method but after this situation with Lyrica I see them very differently. They aren't the very smart people I used to think they were. They don't look into things. They are quite superficial. They don't really care much about things they don't deal with on a regular basis. If a patient has something that they don't see very often or a sign or symptom that they can't attribute to something immediately they either "turf" the patient to a specialist or placate the patient with ambiguous information. Remember, just because something isn't already listed as a "side effect" doesn't mean that it isn't one or even worse, that it is an "Adverse Event" that the drug company hasn't owned up to yet.

I went to the eye dr again because my eyesight is driving me crazy. He did some tests for the double vision. I was told there is something wrong with my eyes and it is what usually happens when a person has a trauma to their eye. He gave me the name of a specialists that works on fixing the problem but I was told that he doesn't know if it will work because the damage to my eyes was caused by a drug. So I finally have a diagnosis but have been told it is permament. The good news is I don't always notice when I am walking around with one eye closed.

Vicki:
I too was "messed up" by Lyrica.
I am having vision problems, and I can only see out of one eye. My hair started to fall out. I would get a huge handful every time I brushed it. Good thing I had thick hair.
Both of my ears constantly ring, and my balance is gone!
When i'm sitting or lying down I am alright, but when I stand up everything shifts and it looks like someone grabbed the floor on the left side and lifted it to their mid drifts.
I was NEVER TOLD about the side effects from my dr., especially the effects it had on me!
I am slowly getting off of Lyrica, should be done by the end of the week.
My main concern is this: Will I have permanent damage to my body because of the symptoms I show now?
I sure hope not.
If I get an attorney to take the case I will let you and anyone else know who they are.

Take care,
Beckie E.

So sorry to hear about your son, Nick. The cognitive decline that so many of us experience is, in my mind, the most devastating effect of all. For someone so young to have a set back like this, is a cruel thing to happen. I hope and pray with all my heart that his intellect returns to normal in the not-too-distant future. I'm reading books about neuroplasticity that give me hope for the recovery of much of our cognitive function over time, with the appropriate brain training. Fingers crossed.

Thank you Melinda for your prompt reply , as you said it seems to be the higher doses of lyrica that really nail home the damage , am very angry that Dr Terence Lim of North Eastern Rehabilitation Center in Ivanhoe started my then 16 year old on such a high dose of 75mg x 2 per day rising to 75 x 4 per day when i have read of so many others being on much lower doses ,at the time of consultation his pain was only moderate , DR T lim actually wonted him on 75 x 6 per day but my son looked so sick at 75 x 4 per day that we did not increase , also it is stated in the brosher that lyrica is not tested as safe for any one under the age of 18 years .

I have been off lyrica since last September and still suffer with anxiety I know was caused by lyrica. Everyday is at one point or another is still a struggle. I pray all will be healed from this and I know one day the drug maker will have to answer for this before God.

Hi Melinda , thanks for your reply and if you add 68 to that you are all done and the ball is in your court . The Anxiety issue was rarely mentioned in early-er reports but is now being mentioned as occurring at a later time after Lyrica , Pfyzer may argue that chronic pain may trigger anxiety but the transition with my son was so obvious and clear cut from seeing and knowing what he was like before lyrica and being on lyica the Anxiety onset was very instant and unmistakable ..

Hi,
Your anxiety sounds crippling and I think it's this aspect of the type of anxiety that is being reported by those taking lyrica that is the key. I have communicated with a number of older ladies who have been on various medications for their pain conditions over the years, and only after taking the lyrica did this horrific anxiety hit. One lady had nursed her husband through cancer and watched him die; and then, in her late 50's found herself having to go back to work in an unfamiliar and stressful environment. None of these events triggered her anxiety as she is simply a calm person by nature; but after several months on lyrica she was knocked flat by extreme anxiety. She is still experiencing this while she is tapering off her dosage and is down to her last 25mg/day. She's understandably concerned she'll be left with an anxiety disorder that she didn't have before...she'd rather have kept the pain. So it's an insidious thing...and it's simply unjust that Pfyzer are able to side-step it with their claims that pain triggers anxiety. Actually...it's far more likely to trigger depression. Let us know how you're getting along ... hopefully, you will eventually find relief.

Hi Mary , i can certainly emphasize with you on what Lyrica has done to you regarding learning ability , my son went from an A: student to needing to complete his final year of high school by distance education from home , this means he is now a total of 3 years behind his pears and still laments his current state as he remembers so well how easily he used to retained new information , , the very fact Lyrica has not been banned is confirmation of endemic corruption in the system .

Sherree , am as frustrated as you are about Lyrica , seems that the drug companies can do what they like with legal immunity .

Tammy, where in Canada are you? I took Lyrica for one year. very soon after, I started having "foggy" days where I had trouble focusing my thoughts. This progressed to full on confused days here and there with stuttering and word replacement. Then about 6 months in, I started falling asleep at the wheel. I brought all of this to my MD and she felt that it was stress and not related to the meds. Another 3 months went by and I could barely make words some days. I am a Registered Forensic Nurse, as well I teach in the nursing school here in both official languages. Little y little, I couldn't make my mouth speak in French, I'd be up there in front of the students and "joking" with them about how to say "such and such" in French. Then it was happening in English. Word substation, stuttering, inability to think, falling asleep, loss of balance, headaches. All uncontrollable and frightening. I finally told my MD that I was coming off it. I rather have pain than be unable to THINK.

The discontinuation side effects were brutal. I have been off Lyrica now for 6 months. Though the symptoms (side effects) have lessened decidedly, they are by no means gone. I was told yesterday by a neurologist that it would seem I have lasting neurological damage from the med. No way to tell HOW long lasting. If there's a lawsuit pending, I'd like info please. I'm a mom of 4, RN, University teacher, 3rd degree black belt instructor in TKD, paddle instructor too! All of these have suffered from the use and then discontinuation of Lyrica.
Lyrica has ruined my life.

To BBMom:
I understand completely what you are going through. I am also a RN who is also a Nursing Instructor. I've been off LYRICA for several years but the mental blocks are still with me. I am soo embarrassed at times not being able to think of everyday words while lecturing to my nursing students. Yesterday I couldn't think of the word "splint" to save my life. I am soo angry at the way my life has been altered by taking LYRICA. While taking LYRICA gaining 60 lbs over just 6 months, (from a size 8 to a size 18), going into CHF and being admitted to the Heart Failure Unit was one thing, but this neuro deficit of not being able to think of simple, everyday words, completely forgetting what I'm saying, and having my reading comprehension go from being able to speed read with almost total recall to not being able to read 3 sentences without having to go back and re-read them just to figure out what I just read is infuriating. I know it's from LYRICA since I am also a Clinical Research Scientist, retired, from the country's largest pharmaceutical company. I collect data. It's second nature to me. And I know when my neuro deficits started. I just can't figure out why there hasn't been an attorney who will take our case.

Lyrica works by destroying either the neurons or nerves
I am am ex LPN and a RRT. If lyrica is destroying all the neurons or nerves what is it doing to out brains which are composed of nerves and neurons.

Kelly, please let all of us know if you find an attorney. I've been looking for over two months and can't find anyone! We are all in the same boat. It's so sad, it makes me sick just to think of what has happened to all of us. I heard that there is a time limit to file a lawsuit. We can't wait too long. I can't believe that no one is out there to help us. It is just CRIMINAL !!

I guess that leaves me out of any settlement, even if we do find a lawyer. I have been off lyrica for about 8 years now;however, I am willing to testify about the drug lyrica, even of the statutes of limitations has probably run out for me. I know that I will never get my memory back like it was, I will just have to work harder and write eeverything down until th day I die because I keep forrggeting to turn the stove off. : - (
Ood luck to you all. I hope that a lawyer is found swoon.
