I was prescribed losartan and I want to know what it is doing to my body? ## Losartan is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, certain cardiac conditions, and to protect the kidneys in people with diabetes. What condition have you been diagnosed with? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. To put it in layman's terms, these types of medications usually help increase blood flow to the heart, and other vital organs, so they can work more efficiently.
Hi. I’m taking losartan 25mg and besylate 10 mg. I take them 10-20 mins apart and I take them in the morning. Is it ok to take NyQuil with my blood pressure medicine? ## Hello, Sally! How are you? Sally was also my mother's name! I miss her so very much, and I guess I always will. Losartan is used to treat high blood pressure and various cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. However, besylate is not the name of an actual medication, that just designates the chemical salt it was derived from, can you please double check the name? Is it possibly Amlodipine Besylate? What formulation of Nyquil do you wish to take? ## Hi, awww Sally is a beautiful name.. lol yea I miss my ...
I started taking Losartan 50mg two and a half weeks ago and I have developed tinnutis, this is not a common side effect but an adverse one, I've previously been on Rampiril but didn't feel well, will this side effect go away or will it be permanent or should I change medication again, and if it's in the same family of arbs will I get it again. I'm getting quite worried, docs saying my ears look clear so don't know what to do. ## Yes, as reported by the U.S. FDA, that is a known side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Such side effects are usually transient and go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 6 weeks. If it doesn't improve, after that point, or if it wo...
Can peripheral neuropathy be a rare side effect of Losartan? I just cut back from 100mg/day to 50mg/day. I also get leg/foot cramps while sleeping, tightness in my calfs while walking, and just recently developed a dry cough. These other symptoms are more common - are they not? ## Hello, Joanna! How are you? No, I'm not seeing that listed anywhere among the side effects provided by the FDA, though yes, it can cause pain in some people that take it. You may also experience dizziness, nausea and increased urination. However, if you have the dry cough, you should speak to your doctor as you will most likely need to switch to a different medication. Once the coughing starts, it doesn't usually go away. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Not seeing foot and leg numbness anywh...
Have taken Atenolol 50 mg. for years then developed nasty cronic cough...Dr. switched me to Losartan 25 mg, is this equivalent? Experiencing sweats today and wondered if this was a lower dose then what I was taking and it is impossible to find comparsion of strength of these medications. Please advise and thank you! ## Hello, Bradly! How are you? Yes, since they are different medications, you can't really compare the dosages. However, the sweats are likely caused by stopping the other medication and starting the new one, just your body's reaction. But have you checked with your doctor to be sure? ## Have checked but not satisfied yet, all I want to know is Atenolol 50mg equivalent to Losartan 25mg? Another words if you were switching a patient from one to another would it be at ...
hctz 25 / lisinopril 20 mg....how does it differ from hctz 25 / losartan 100 mg? ## One contains Lisinopril and the other contains Losartan. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and Losartan is an ARB, so while they both can help lower blood pressure, they work in different ways. The Lisinopril is a more potent medication, so it requires a lower dosage to work. Learn more: Are there any other questions? ## I am so concerned. I have heard absolute horror stories about the Lisinopril. My sister's kidney specialist has told her that this med is poison to her kidneys & took her off of it immediately. Also I am wondering if Lorsartan is the same as well? This just scares me to death. Does anyone have any information on these drugs? ## I would very much like to hear the answer to this. What...
I'm taking losartan 100mg and atorvastatin 80 mg. I also take 45 units of Humalog, 80 units of Levemir, 500 mg metformin, carvedilol once a day, bumetanide and amlodipine 10 mg. I took all this for a long time. I started breaking out with about 200 hives all over my legs and side of my body. Can you please tell me what it could be? I had to quit taking all my medication except my sugar shot and I started adding one pill at a time. As soon as I got to that amlodipine and I took 70 units of my leveremir the next morning I broke out all over, so I quit and just took two 45 unit doses and I was okay. Can someone help me please? Thank you. ## Hi Tony, Sorry to hear about your situation. Because you're taking so many medications it may be challenging to determine exactly which ones ar...
I take Losartan in the am and Paxil and Lipitor before bed. I find myself extremely tired and could sleep most of the time. I can't wait to got to bed. Is this tiredness due to the Losartan or Paxil??? If so I want my Dr. to wean me off of it. I was always extremely active...not used to this. Thanks,Carol ## Hello, Carol! How are you? The first culprit that I would suspect for such a problem would actually be the Lipitor. It is classified by the FDA as being a statin medication and they cause problems for many people that take them, in quit a few cases, people have had to stop taking it altogether. You may also experience nausea, headache and joint/muscle aches. There is also a chance that it would be a combination of all of them. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? How l...
Question: what would happen if you accidentally took two doses of Hydrochlorothiazide Losartan 100/2mg once a day in a 12 hour period of time? I thought I forgot to take it today! First time doing this and now know the key of having a SMTW... pill box! ## Hello, Jay! How are you? Not likely anything serious, but you should check with your doctor to be sure. You may need to take in some more fluids, since you may experience dehydration and lower than normal blood pressure from the accidental doubling up. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I take Losartan Potassium 25mg in the morning and Aten lol 25mg before bed. I took my losartan around 11:30am. Getting ready for bed, I accidentally took the losartan again instead of the atenolol. (11:02 pm) Should I be concerned? I am not goin...
I was just put on Losartan. I was told to take the pill once a day one hour before bedtime, because the pill can make you drowzy. This will be my second day taking this medication. I hope I do not experience any of the bad side effects. ## Hello, Tammy! How are you? What side effects are you worried about? The FDA lists the typical ones for this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. I've been taking it for several years, with no issues. ## Actually I am not worried about any side effects.I hope I don't have any side effects. ## I was taking Lisinopril 40mg and it was keeping my b/p at 140/87 for 5 years now. Then I had a mri of my liver, because I was having upper right chest pain. And the doctor informed me that I now...
I got this generic drug from WalMart last year manufactured by Merck. It was amazing. Then they switched to same generic drug manufactured by TEVA Pharmaceutical (from white oval shaped pills in a bottle to little green pills in cardboard package), and they didn't do a darn thing. It was like not taking anything at ALL. Did Merck stop making the generic version? It used to have the monopoly on Cozaar before the generic version of losartan potassium came out. ## Hello, WaterBaby! How are you? The generic that any given pharmacy carries can change regularly, depending on what manufacturer was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. I am, however, not aware of Merck having made a generic, they are just listed as making the name brand. I have been t...
Been taking 100mg Losortan along with 10mg of Amlodopine for some time now and the side effects I can no longer deal with. These pills actually made matters worse. Dr. took me off Amlodopine but truth is I had to STOP both. Slowly killing me with side effects of both. How long before the pills effects are completely out of my system? Taking Hawthorne and Grape seed extract actually works better without nasty side effects. ## I've been on 150 mg Losartan for quite a few years. I find it's no longer effective in controlling my bp. I'm curious why the dr. Took you off it and what were the side effects you were having. ## Hawthorne can take months to work...for me it helped the systolic but not the lower, the diastolic. My brother just started on losartan and I have yet to hear ...
The doctor took me off Losartan and now my ankles keep swelling. Could this be the cause? ## It is possible. If it was stopped abruptly, the FDA does warn that it may cause some rebound effects, such as elevated heart rate, blood pressure, and fluid retention. Are you on any other medications? Have you informed your doctor of the problem? Uncontrolled edema could cause congestive heart failure, which has the potential to be fatal. ## I have been on Losartan 25 mg for a month and have side effects from it. I tried to stop it and my B/P went up higher than before I started it. It went from 140/90 to 170/104. Please advise how to stop this drug without causing this side effect.
I have been on it for 2 months and the side effects have been awful. I couldn't stand it any more. I stopped taking it last Wednesday. It's been 5 days. I now have swollen ankles. Is this something to worry about? What is the risk of stopping and how long does it take to get it out of your system? ## Hello, Lindyann! How are you? Yes, you shouldn't have stopped it abruptly, because that can cause a rebound effect, such as what you're experiencing with the edema. You may also have dangerously elevated blood pressure. Please consult your doctor as soon as possible to have things checked out for your own safety. You may require medical treatment and will need to try a different blood pressure medication. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## hello..ive been taking l...
Hi I’ve been taking 50mg losartan for almost a year and BP was avg 128/89 then it went up to 140/100. My Dr upped it to 100mg and after a week it went up a little more. How long does it take for the medicine to start working and should it start working sooner since I’ve been taking losartan previously? ## @SW, You mentioned that you've been taking 50mg losartan for almost a year before it stopped working as effectively... I'm just under the unique impression that perhaps your body built a tolerance to it over time and that's why your blood pressure was gradually going back up? I've never heard of any medication taking a year to start working, so this is the only plausible explanation I can think of. Have you already discussed this with your prescribing doctor...
i found a tiny round white pill with the number 57 on one side and a half moon with a number 1 on it just need to know what it is. ## Hi Tammy, Based on my research, the pill in question could possibly be Losartan Potassium 25mg or 50mg; which is used to help treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. Losartan Potassium (25mg) is a small white round pill with the markings 572 on one side and what appears to be a half moon with the number 1 on the other side. The imprint on Losartan Potassium (50mg) is the same as the 25 mg variety except its marked with the numbers 573. Is it possible that part of the imprint could've been smudged off at some point? Learn More: Losartan Details Please post back if you have any more questions! ## Small round white pill blank on one side &5...
Statins are known to cause memory loss. I've read that losartan can cause the same side effects as statin drugs. Is memory loss one of the side effects losartan can cause? ## No, it is not a statin, it is actually classified as an angiotensin 2 receptor antagonist, but yes it can cause memory impairment as a side effect, though it is very rare for it to do so. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is the patient on any other medications? ## yes, patient is on amlodipine. He has none of the 'normal' side effects you mentioned. He is always tired. When I looked up side effects for his meds, both said extreme fatigue was a possible side effect. He is cold frequently when no one else is. Is...
I've been taking 2x 50mg Losartan for 8 weeks and am experiencing quite severe pain in my hands and feet, especially during the night and early morning. Is there an alternative to Losartan which doesn't cause these nasty side effects?
UpdatedTerrible angina on minor exertion. Legs need cat scan for vascular blockage. Isosorbide 30mg helps angina for 12-15 hours then I might need a small nitro tablet. Also the isosorbide has made my blood pressure perfect. This after a four year battle just taking 25 mg metropolol twice a day a 50 mg of losartan once. My question, do I need to take the losartan and metropolol anymore? I also take plavix. You should know that my problems started four years ago when a drugstore BP machine indicated my BP was high. My doctor at the time prescribed hydrochlorothorazide and lisinopril. four days later I was in the emergency room with fried kidneys. In summary, the two aforementioned drugs, and amlodipine, clonidine damn near killed me. I wouldn’t give them to a dog. After two years of this,...

I take it, as well, and my Cardiologist checks them regularly, to be careful. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, increased urination, dehydration, and hypotension. How often does your doctor do blood work? Are you tak...
