I have been taking 25mg Losartan ea. morning for two months but now I've read that I should not have any alcohol...does this mean I have to give up my wine with dinner each evening? ## Hello, Miranda! How are you? Well first, have you had any problems so far taking the medication and having a glass of wine with your dinner? Except in a couple of rare cases, the concern about combining most medications with alcohol is that it can aggravate the side effects, so you may feel more dizzy, drowsy and nauseous than usual. In relation to blood pressure and heart conditions, it's is generally believed that a glass of wine a day is beneficial, red wines have antioxidants, plus they can slightly lower your blood pressure and do some blood thinning, which decreases the work load on the hear...

I have been advised to take Losartan for mild heart failure .Have been increased the dosage from 25 to 50 but feel really tired and weak . Is this usual? ## Hello, Sunrise! How are you? Yes, this medication is often used to help with heart function when someone has heart failure, I take it myself. And yes, it can cause those types of symptoms as side effects, but the heart failure itself could also be causing them. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, headache, increased urination and hypotension. The side effects should eventually go away, once your body gets used to the medication, usually around 4 to 5 weeks. If they continue past that, you should have it checked out. Is there anything else I can help with?

I on larsarton and started itching very bad all over is this a side effect. ## Hello, Candy! How are you? Sorry about the itching! Do you also have a rash/hives or are you just itchy? If it's the latter, then it could be due to the effect that the Losartan has on your circulation, since it basically eases the workload on the heart to lower your blood pressure and treat cardiac conditions. If it's severe and continues, you may need to ask about trying a different medication. Other side effects may include headache, cough and low blood pressure. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Started Losartan in mid-June 2014. Within days I started itching...first around my lower back, then my forearms and the backs of my thighs on the second day. Doctors didn't have a clue, and I ...

I am 58 years old, I normally taking Losartan 100mg-12.5 mg as per prescription but a pharmacist refilled the wrong dose i.e., 100mg-25mg and I did not noticed that until 3 weeks later. I took the first 25mg on 11/27/15 and 2 days later I got stomach pain, muscle pain, dark urine, loss of appetite, diarrhea and lost weight 9 pounds in 6 days. I felt better on the seventh day which was 11/3/15. My co-workers said I must have stomach flu because the above symptoms have gone after one week. Now I feel normal. Should I have an evaluation for my kidney and liver? Please advise, thanks! ## Hello, Saks! How are you feeling? If he has high blood pressure, then he can't just stop taking a medication for it. He needs to speak to his doctor about trying a different medication. However, not all of them do and there shouldn't be a problem with him trying a different one. Is there anything else I can help with?

I do not have high blood pressure. My doctor has me on Losartan 100mg because I have diabetes. I do not have kidney problems. I've been told by many people not to take medicine for prevention. What do you think? ## Hello, Joan! How are you? It is very common for a doctor to prescribe such a mediation to help protect the kidneys from the possible damage that may occur from diabetes. Thus, your doctor most likely hasn't prescribed it to prevent high blood pressure. In this case, it would be best to follow your doctor's instructions. Ever since taking I have been gaining weight like crazy and have had back pain, could it be from meds? ## Hello, William! How are you? Sorry about the problems you're having. Yes, it could be from the medication. Most blood pressure medications can cause weight gain and some of them can cause joint or muscle aches. Learn more Losartan details here. Have you discussed your symptoms with your doctor? They should be able to determine if they are due to the medication and, if so, prescribe an alternative that isn't known to cause such side effects as frequently. ## I've only been taking the meds for a few days but have been eating like a horse! Going to have to watch my food intake and exercise more, I guess. Goody!
