I don't see why they give this for everyone? They don't test us for having IBS they just say I think you have it maybe and like they told me after I used it for over two weeks and nothing but Pain in the Belly and sharp pain and all the bloating, keep taking it as it some times takes up to six weeks before it starts working. Why should my Dr. tell me that and knowing I am in lots of pain and he needs to do something for the PAIN and not just go by what this Drug may or may not do. ## Most doctors will have you try the medication before doing any tests for IBS. Reason being that the test is actually more painful and uncomfortable than just trying the medication (scope up the ...
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been taking linzess at night before bed. great stools but very runny and causing burning in that area. Will start taking tomorrow morning after breakfast. I am feeling very bloaty after the 3rd day of taking it. ## Hello, Dana! How are you doing? Side effects to this medication can include nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain and stomach distention, so that explains the bloating. Several others have posted about experiencing the same thing with this medication. Have you experienced any other side effects? Does anyone else have experience using this mediation? ## I've been taking Linzess for awhile now. I follow two rules. One, recommended by my physician. First, I take it a minimum 1 hour before breakfast. Second, I take it if I have gone a full day without a BM. There are times wh...
2 REPLIES UpdatedHow long can you take linzess?? Can you take it for a long period of time??? ## Hello, Patty! How are you? Has this been prescribed for you? If so, how is it working for you? Some people had good results with it for the first week or 2, then it seemed to stop working for them. There appears to be no set treatment time frame, according to the FDA information, though most evaluation trials were for 12 weeks periods. However, your doctor would be the best judge of how long you can safely take it. Typical side effects may include nausea, bloating and diarrhea. It should also be taken on an empty stomach, at least a half hour before eating.
1 REPLY UpdatedI was told by my gastroenterologist to take linzess on an empty stomach. So I actually take it at night before I go to bed and I usually make my BM the next morning just about every day. Once in a blue moon I may skip a day, but I never go more than a day without making a BM. I wonder if linzess may be affecting the way my body digest food. Because I'm having issues with being very hungry about 45 minutes after I eat. & I wonder if Linzess forces my digestion to speed up. After I eat. I also have a disease called insulin resistance which makes me very carbohydrate sensitive. Also wondering if linzess has any effect on the metformin I take for my insulin resistance? ## @Dee, To answer your initial question about Linzess possibly affecting the way your body digests food, NIH.gov s...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI do not have IBS but have constipation due to vaginal floor problem. I normally have a small bowel movement or two daily but do not clean out completely. The first time I tried it it worked wonderfully, although quite a bit of cramping. Next 2 days / doses, some rumblings but nothing. Now I am more constipated than before. Is this possible / been reported? ## Hello, Felice! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Many people have had similar issues with it, it tends to work great at first, then just seems to stall. The instructions on the Linzess website state that it should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before your first meal of the day. Have you been doing that? Typical side effects are listed as diarrhea, gas, abdominal pain and abdom...
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been on Linzess 145 mg for a month. it worked great the first 2 weeks and now it just stopped. I don't know if my body got use to it already or what could cause it. ## Hello, Marci! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. Actually, that has been a very common complaint from people that have tried it. However, there is a higher dosage that you can try, so you may want to speak to your doctor about prescribing it. Typical side effects to this medication may include stomach pain, nausea, gas or bloating. Have you been taking it on an empty stomach? ## Yes I've been taking it on an empty stomach & I've even doubled the dosage & it doesn't work. I finally resorted to taking Milk of magnesia nstead because I was so miserable ## ...
3 REPLIES UpdatedBeen on Linzess 2 weeks now. I take it before dinner, sometimes really watery stool or just normal stool. Can't take in the AM due to work schedule. Take then so have time to evacuate before bed, best time for me. Still have splenic flexure pain, will see with continued use, on 290 mg dose. ## Hi Chris, Sorry to hear about your continued splenic flexure pain. From what I've read online, splenic flexure pain is said to be caused by gas-forming foods as well as various types of fatty foods. Do you find this to be the case in your situation as well after eating certain meals containing these foods? If that is so, my first thought as a nutritional advocate would be to supplement with digestive enzymes and probiotics to help better metabolize foods that would otherwise linger in the ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI take synthroid and, belviq in the morning at same time I take linzess.? ## Hi Judy, Upon looking up potential drug interactions, I did find an article noting how Linzess (Linaclotide) has been known to cause diarrhea, which in-turn may affect the absorption of other medications that are taken orally, such as Synthroid (Levothyroxine)... essentially not allowing it to work as well as it should. So if you do decide to take them together, I think it would be equally important to watch for signs/symptoms of decreased thyroid function as a result of this interaction. Have you been taking the Linzess long enough to know how it affects you (i.e. regarding diarrhea)? ## The Linzess does cause some diarrhea ,if I take the synthroid and belviq 2hours later (after the linzess ) would that be long...
3 REPLIES UpdatedHi. My Dr gave me the lower lose and the first day I had 3 bm's but nothing has happened in the three days after that. I'm discouraged. Is this normal? ## Hello Ekt! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you've had. It seems to do that to many people, it works well at first, then just stops, but I'm not sure why. You may need to try the higher dosage. Are you making sure to take it on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before a meal? Are you on any other medications that might affect it? Side effects may include stomach pain, gas and bloating. ## I take it in the morning but not always 30 minutes before eating or drinking. My bottle just said take each morning. What might this cause. My only other med is wellbutrin 300 mg. ## Some medications don't work as ...
3 REPLIES UpdatedI have been on Linzess for 2 months and continue to have constant rumbling in my stomach and intestine if I eat 30 minutes after taking the medication. Sometimes it gets pretty intense and I get sick to my stomach. If I don't eat until lunch, it happens and by then I am nauseous from not eating so it's even worse. Anyone else have this problem and what do you do??? ## Hey tummytrouble, Hope you've managed to tame the rumbling in your stomach. From what I could gather, most of the side effects associated with Linzess are gastrointestinal related... with symptoms ranging from unusual & severe stomach pain, gas, swelling, or pressure in the stomach region. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a613007.html#side-effects If it hasn't gone away yet, I would suggest co...
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been on Linzess for about a month. I have not had any of the severe side effects mentioned, just the bloating and gas. Does anyone know when those side effects will stop? For the most part the Linzess has worked, I am having regular bowel movements. Since I am so bloated it is hard to eat and therefore I have lost weight that I did not need to loose. Any way any insights would be appreciated! ## Hello, Ag! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Have you looked into taking anything that may ease the gas and bloating? I'm not sure, but you may be able to take Simethicone with it, if your doctor approves it.
1 REPLY UpdatedI take my Linzess in the morning, I love it. I was wondering if I could take the rest of my morning medication at the same time as I take the Linzess? I see no food or drink for 30 minutes but other than that... ## What other medications do you take? I'm sorry, but I'll need more details in order to answer your question. ## Strattera and verapamil are the two main ones that get me going in the morning, also I take vitamin D, magnesium, tramadol, meloxicam, and biotin. I have dysautonomia so the strattera and verapamil are important for get up and go.
2 REPLIES UpdatedIs it okay to take linzess every other day or when needed dose linzess cause weight gain ## Hello, Bailey! How are you? This medication will work best if you take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Side effects may include heartburn, loss of appetite, weakness and diarrhea, so no, it doesn't usually cause weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been taking Linzess for several months for IBS-C. I recently tested positive for celiac disease but my gastro dr. missed this result on the 7 page lab report before he did my endoscopy and did not biopsy my lower bowel, intestines. All of my biopsy reports were negative for the endoscopy, but now i need to have lab work done again in 2 months to make sure that i am still positive for celiac. If i am i will need to have another endoscopy done with more biopsies taken. Has anyone else been diagnosed with IBS-C and now tested positive for celiac? If so, how does Linzess affect celiac disease?
UpdatedHas anyone experienced itching or a rash while taking Linzess? ## Hello, Louloubell! How are you? Yes, those can be side effects of it, though they are very rare. Have had it checked out? It's important to do so to make sure that you aren't having an allergic reaction to it. Other side effects may include heartburn, stomach pain and weakness.
1 REPLY UpdatedMy doctor gave me samples of Linzess for constipation I though that 290 mcg would work faster, but didn't have any movement, so I tried the 145 mcg and had great results, I'm. Out of the 145 mcg and was wounding if mcg's are different then mg. Is the larger number 290mcg less in strength then the 145mcg? Will I have to take 2 to get the 145 mcg? ## Hello, B J! How are you? And no, it most likely worked because you had those dosages in your system so close together, so they overlapped and combined to help. But to put it in milligrams for you, 145mcgs is 0.145mg and 290mcgs would be 0.290mgs. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedI was diagnosed with impacted bowels today and prescribed 290 mcg of Linzess. My pcp indicated this would get my bowels cleaned out (that I would basically have diarrhea until I am cleaned out) and then I will use it for maintaining good bowel movements. I am wondering how long it will take for it to start working for the cleanout as I need to go back to work but can't until I get this process over. ## Hello, Rena! How are you doing? It has passed the same FDA panel for approval as other medications used for the same or similar conditions. However, the only way to see if it will work for you is by actually trying it. Have you started it, yet?
