Lexamil Side Effects (Page 3)
UpdatedIs there anything that anybody can tell me about Lexamil?
The most common side effect is loss of libido , you're all correct , but isn't it better to have sex less often and be than your loved ones standing next to your grave thinking they could have done more?......The other thing is when going on Lexamil things will usually get worse before you feel better as another short term side -effect is more anxiety, docs should prescribe a tranquilizer to accompany the Lexmil for the first month.....of course vigorous exercise does the same thing as it gets rid of the excessive adrenalin levels which is anxiety , i've weened myself slowly twice before , but sometimes after months , as it is out of your system completely , the anxiety returns .....so DONT !! ....i've decided that i'd even have a slightly shorter life , but have a happy one without the hopelessness , fear , anxiety , seclusion , suicidal tendenceis , etc. etc....
My doctor has changed my meds to lamicton, and although at the beginning I suffered uncontrollable hunger all the time as the dosage has increased so has the hunger episodes decreased. I am hoping that once I build up to the correct dosage and I am happier and more settled in my mood swings, that the unusual hunger will go away and that I will be able to loose the weight I gained. I cannot believe what a difference the meds have made. I wish I had known a long time ago that there were meds that could make me feel better. I had no idea that there was something wrong with me. I have only now been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and the chaos and depression that ruled my life is slowely coming to an end.
I had an extremely bad anxiety attack and have suffered severe physical symptoms since. I was presribed Lexamil(5mg first week, then 10mg daily) and Alprazolam (this helps to combat Lexamil side affects, but is a short term drug as it is very addictive). I am now on week 2. On Lexamil 5mg I was OK'ish, felt removed from reality. Changing to 10mg I am sleeping all the time, drowsy all the time, have no appetite whatsoever, am depressed, don't want to leave the house, suffered incontinence for a few days, diahorrea for a few days, irrelgular period, dizzyness and a couple of nights of insomnia. I have to go back to work in 3 days time, and have no idea what to do, as I currently look and feel like a zombie, and work in a very professional environment. I have already been off work for most of December. Do I decrease the dose to 5mg again? Do I try to get more time off to adjust? What do I do?
I was diagnosed with Bipolar 5 years ago it took a year with the wrong psychiatrist before changing doctors and going into a Psychiatric hospital for a month to get my meds right before I felt the full effect. I know have the greatest doctor who has gotten my meds right, I know take 225mg Effexor, 200mg Lamicton and 10mg of cyprilix. The Lamicton takes a while to get into your system but you take when you are supposed to it really works, I take mine at night and my effexor in the morning with the cyprilix.I cant even remember what if felt like to be so out of contol. I am also a recovering alcohlic, 2 years now. I am so greatful for all I have now. I thought life was hopeless. I often have people tell me that I seem better so why take the meds and I exsplain that if it aint broken why fix it. I know I will be on the meds for most of my life and I am fine with it cause I can cope on lifes terms now. I just wanted to say to anyone who thinking about stopping meds or going on them. THEY DO HELP but we are all different so you need to find the ones that work for you.
I have been on Lexamil for a few days now and I feel better. However the side effect I'm experiencing is severe urinary retraction, will this side effect go away eventually?

I have been on Lexamil 10 mg for the past 14 months The circumstances that caused my anxiety are sorted now.I am 52 and had a good experience on Lexamil, coped much easier with my work and life in general. Am I suppose to go of Lexamil now ? and why can't one take it for the rest of your life?
I AM ON LEXAMIL 20 MG DAILY, HAVE BEEN ON IT NOW FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS BUT STILL FEEL NO BETTER, I STIL FEEL DEPRESSED AND GET CONSTANT ANXIETY ATTACKS..DOES THIS MEAN THEY MUST INCREASE THE DOSAGE? OR DOES MY BODY STILL NEED TO GET USE TO THEM????
ive been on lexamil for two weeks, im currently in an pscych klinic. i feel no effects except weight loss and no appetite. i will continue with it because it is the safest anti-depressant apparently
I went on to Lexamil first in Oct 2008 - after 2 months gained 4kgs and decided that weight gain too much of a problem - stopped it and weight gain stopped and started coming off slowly. Depression worsened and after doctor reassured me that does not cause weight gain ewent back onto it again. By the time I stopped in Dec 09 I had gained a total of 18 kgs in the previous 15 months. Weight gain has again stopped and have lost about 2kgs without significant change to diet. Without a doubt it can cause significant weight gain in some people and I should have trusted my instincts initially (would have been a lot easier to loose only 4kgs)
i exsperience weight loss decrees in my appetite take everything easy no more rushing
I have been on Lexamil for about three years, I decided to stop last month and the only 'withdrawal symptoms I have had are slight dizzy spells. Will these go away after a while. I was interested to see that it causes weight gain. I have gained a fairly large amount of weight over the period and despite trying several diets, cannot shift it. Now on a Low Gi plan and doing more exercise.
I've been on 10mg (anxiety after a plane crash) now for 3weeks. first two days was hectic, headaches mainly, but used 1/2 dose for a week then full dose. went from 4 daily panic attacks to none. However aware that I'm not myself and I'll take a while to balance out. But not weight gain and sex is just fine, thank you.
I have been in lexamil 5mg for two weeks now and I feel SHOCKING!! I have completeely LOST my appetite, am always nauseaus. dizzy and feel like the ground is falling away form under me. Am NOT going to take it anymore.
I'd rather deal with my anxiety the natiural way. Do I just go off it or must I wean myself off the pills. Does anyone know.
I have never been on any meds in my life now my dr prescribed Lexamil due to post traumatic stress syndrome and generally not ever being relaxed or able to unwind. I have anxiety not depression, pls explain what this drug actually is? Anti - despressant? Tranquilser?
I started with adco talomil but after 8 months my doctor prescribed lexamil. never been a fan of prescription drugs but things got a bit too hectic not to take them...i've always been skinny but gained at least 10kg since starting with lexamil 4 months ago, i haven't taken my medication in a week now and i'm getting really bad headaches, is that normal? does anyone know of any good herbal alternatives to these drugs?
hi ive been using lexamil 10mg for 2 weeks and in the first few days expeienced increase in appetite ,,severe headache and tooth ache and would like to know how long does it take for someone to get to feel the benefits of the medication.
I started taking Leximil at the end of January this year. The first 3 weeks i experienced nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss and severe diarreah. I still take it and now have my appetite back (not increased), weight gain (at least 6 kg's in 2 months), major yawning and fatigue from starting to now. But my anxiety has gone and i am way more relaxed. If i forget to take my daily pill i suffer headaches. Any one know haw i can slowly go off these pill and another way to handle anxiety.
I have been on adtidepressents for about 6 years now (was prior to this an alcoholic-sober now 6 years) . Anyway, I am not even sure which ones I have been on, cipralex, cipramil, and some others that made me sleep all day! I have been on lexamil for about 12 months now and definitely found it to work really well. I did gain weight, was always a steady 52kg now up to 60kig for the first time in my life! Also had toothache for a while, libido also dropped slightly (all these things now make sense after reading others comments.) I decided to go cold turkey and feel like i would like to try without any meds as I used to cope when i was younger, why not now? stopped Lexamil 9 days ago, feeling really anxious, insomnia, hyper, on edge and lots of dizzy spells when walking around, doc says shouldnt have gone cold turkey and that my blood pressure is really low (hence the dizzy spells). How much longer will these withdrawal sypmtoms persist, will they ever stop!!??
I came off Lexamil about six weeks ago. The dizzy spells have decreased steadily but I have slight depression from time to time. Try to find something to distract you, a hobby or something similar.
