I was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine?

Thyroid medication is tricky and serious. There is a saying, "thyroid low, please go slow because if thyroid high, patient may die." You should not have weird feelings on Levothyroxine. Call your doctor. You may be bumped up too much. Never take thyroid with food. It 100% negates the effects. My thyroid is really crappy. Runs in the family. I've got 22 years of thyroid treatment and education under my belt.

I need to ask some questions. I have no thyroid now since I allowed a doctor to convince me that it MIGHT be cancerous... and the doctor said it would be easy to just take this tiny pill for the rest of your life. Well, it is not so simple as that. I now have osteoporosis caused by the hormone... and now I find that my hormone levels are too low, got to increase the dosage... and the brochure says that calcium can block the hormone....and I don't take pills but eat spinach and drink almond milk to make up for the low calcium... but I'm really low on energy and depressed at this point. If I take my pill at 2 a.m. that will give me a 5 hr window before I eat... and maybe that will work to not have the calcium interfere with the hormone? Any ideas?

I use to take a different medicine,but I couldn't afford it. So the switched my medicine to levothyroxin and now I'm starting to feel like crap again. I feel like I'm walking around drunk all the time and my head is fuzzy.Just some weird as things and I'm only 27 it's a messed up feeling to deal with so young. I just want to go back to feeling normal and I did for a little bit tell I had to change medicines.

I'm pregnant but I found out I have fibroids. The doctor prescribed levothyroxine to help to shrink. I started to take the tablets two days ago. Today I bleeded a little bit. I'm worried because I have read about too many side effects. I haven't read about bleeding during pregnancy but I am scared.

Sorry to hear about everyones head rushes, dizziness, heart rate increase and other side effects, mine is a little different i'm on 75mcg of levothyroxin and I always feel bloated after I eat and I look as if i were pregnant, and being of the male gender that is not good. Does anyone else have this problem or know if this is normal? Thanks and I hope everyone gets better soon.

i take medication for tyhroid problem, but i had the head rush problems long before i started the medication, i was a child of the 70s an unlike bill clinton I will say yes i did inhale, an what i inhaled was good, but had to quit, i get what is called (flashbacks) i get the headrush an bright orange dots move at 45% angles at different directions in both eyes, meaning in one eye i have 1 line of dots moving , left, an next line moving right, stand still an look for something to hang on too if you think you may fall

I have been taking 100mcg of Levothyroxin for four days and I am getting the foggy feeling for about 3 hours starting about two hours after taking the drug. Went fishing the first day and waded a stream. Was not sure I could make it back 1/2 mile of walking in the water due to weakness and feeling faint. Heat of the day was part of it but never happened to me before. I was surprised I needed this as I am not over weight and felt fine otherwise. I am 64 yrs old. I hope the light headedness subsides over time.

Can't say its the med but I feel stoned and tired most of the time. I also feel very grumpy. I am also having angina. Pretty sure that I am going to stop the med and go for monitoring hormone level.

OMG>>>>how stupid am I? I was thinking, brain tumor....bad heart? Now I know.....i just went up on my medication from 112 mcg to 137 mcg. obviously too much. I have that terrible fog....dizzy, etc. I'm switching back. Cuz, this is AWFUL!

Diane H, I am in the same situation as you are. I started a week ago on Levothyroxine with 25 MCG. I also am having problems with my vision. Also I am more tired. It seems as though I run out of breath easily. Never had that problem before I started. Also, instead of being cold like everyone has mentioned, I am the opposite. I am always hot. But, let me ask this; has anyone started to lose weight WITHOUT the side effects.

I'm only 22 and I had a thyroid lobectomy in may of 09' I started to gain weight after and my whole system was trown off including my levels so I was prescribed levothyroxine in July an just not I'm getting severe headaches and I feel like I'm having a brain freeze all day long!! Should I go to name brand synthroid?? I can't believe this is what I'm going to have to deal with forever!!

I take the levothyroxine 88mg and I have been having a lot of hair loss it extreme and I want to know if anyone else had the same side effect and if you have did it ever stop coming out

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism just over a year ago. Was so happy that there was finally a reason for the tiredness and low mood that i had been feeling since my twins were born in 2005. My GP put me on 50mg levothyroxine. Then i had more blood tests and was told that my levels were normal. I felt a little better for a small time but then symptoms returned along with some new ones-including paranoia . I am convinced all the time that I have cancer and am about to drop dead! Had more blood tests and my dose was increased to 75mg. I have been on 75mg for 5 weeks now. Have good weeks and bad weeks this is a bad week. Have been experiencing the slightly drunk feeling that other people have described. Sometimes feel as thogh I may fall over at any moment. I get scared to go out in case i end up falling in the street,I sometimes feel like I am going round the bend and am just so desprate to feel 'normal' again. I find it hard to give all i want to to the people around me because I am so wrapped up in how I am feeling all the time. I also find it hard to concentrate on what people are saying to me and must come across as a complete idiot as i can't focus for long enough to have a conversation. My kids ( all four of them) have all started school now and I was really hoping to get a job and help my husband out with supporting us financially but the idea of going to work when i feel like this terrifies me. Any words of encouragement would really be appreciated, is anyone else feeling like this? x

changed to namebrand synthroid and my hair seems to be growing back, still not alot of weight loss but also not gaining. my eyes are still really dry but i wear my contacts more, now eye dr seems to think my eye problems have to do with my RA. not nearly as bloated feeling with the synthroid but insurance does not pay as much.

I've been taking Thyroxine for 2 months, but I am also taking a contraceptive injection. Has anyone else had problems with this mix? Have had symptoms which could be confused with early pregnancy, sore breasts, nausea etc...would appreciate any feedback if someone else has had similar problems.

For low Thyroid, in 3 days I took 3 Levothyroxine @ 50 mg. I reminded my doc that I get migraines from ANY hormones, but she thought this was a low enough dossage. I ended up projectile vomiting 3 times in a movie theater hallway. I felt like I was starring in a zombie movie. I went home & slept for 12 hours. I'm more-or-less Ok today, but the toes in my right foot still ache (I've had Osteoporosis for 30 yrs. & Levo increases Osteoporosis!). Anyway--I'm certainly not taking the medicine anymore.

I have found that I feel funny even though I have been takign the meds for about 4 months now, my face is sensitive and it breaks out a alot , with read spots on my cheeks and my skin gets really dry.

Hi, My wife has depression and panic attack , she has bee taking anti depressants for 4 years, now her blood test shows mild high TSH. Her docotor has started 25 micg levothyroxin since 3 days. I am not sure it will help her to reduce her mental problem or not, please share your expierences.

Im taking lithium, and klonopin for for anxiety, panic disorder and bipolar decease . Today my blood work showed I have hypothyroidism he wants me to start on 100 MCG every morning (Im really scared to take it since reading all the comments! my once beautiful long hair is becoming course and dry, and Im loosing it by the handfuls ive also read this is a symptom of hypothyroidism) Im always tired and frustrated. My ? is ,Is there anyone out there that has had good results with this drug ? does anybody out there know of a safer med. synthetic or natural that may work without all these side effects? thanks and god bless
