Levothyroxine Is Satan (Page 6)

Updated

I don't feel so confused anymore. Now I know all of you are going through the same thing. My doctor put me on 50mcg of Levothyroxine about a month ago and I have gain 8 pounds! I get short-breathed and winded REALLY easily when working out. I used to go to the gym for 2 hours, now I can't make it longer than 30 minutes. I wake up ALL the time with tingly fingers because my hands have fallen asleep. I have headaches, I feel 100 times more lazy than before...and it's supposed to help your energy, not drain it. I e-mailed my doctor today, this is not making me happy. Not to mention I now have an acne type rash that burns like hell on my chin and I've always had clear skin. If this drug is supposed to make you feel better it sure as sh*t isn't working for me. I feel like a fat lazy a$$ with an itchhy burning rash on my face... stay away from this drug, that's my suggestion. :(

I wish I had never taken Levothyroxin. It is evil and I agree with another victim who said a doctor must first 'do no harm'. I had that same thought when I was walking up a fairly steep but short hill yesterday and felt completely winded at the end. When I was at Uni my sociology teacher, who was also a homeopathic doctor, said, "Ann, it is not in the drug industry's interest to make you better, they would lose a customer. You know when you have one of those moments when as you are processing the thought it gets stuck on the bit that is really scary. How about this for a scary scenario. What if they knew that giving only T4 would eventually lead to you needing statins, bp medication and eventually treatment for diabetes. How sinister would that be. This levo rubbish never had proper trials to start with. I now have headaches no energy no libido and basically no life.

Yep, I sweat profusely, after eating (diabetes symptom) and have high blood pressure ( 144/110) at the endicrinologist's appt, 20 -30 points higher after a minimum of three years of overdosing, thanks to TSH testing alone.
My symptoms have been ignored and passed off as "unexplainable". Oh and my mother died in my arms from a medical dosing error, after an provincial coroner's inquiry, and the "minimum amount of lethal" blood pressure meds were found in her body from double prescribing, I got a "shouldn't have happened" semi-apology. She was experimented on with the PILL (gave her blood clots in her lung and burst a blood vessel in her eye, leaving her partially blind), tranquilizers and benzodiazapenes, which made her dopey, anxious and addicted (watched her go through withdrawl from those, twice, not pretty ... By her fifties, she was on Ltroxin, Premarin (til she was in her SEVENTIES), blood pressure meds , antidiuretics, and eventually she experienced heart failure, those symptoms were dismissed (ankles like balloons) and she was handed more tranquilizers and benzodiazepenes. Morning she died I called her doctors office saying"youre killing my mother" and four hours later when they checked to see why she missed her appointment, she dropped dead on the phone. NOTHING could restart her heart as the doc and pharmacist had given her the same med twice and like a "good girl", she took her meds, until they killled her.

Drug was "voluntarily" recalled . The Pfizer plant wont start remanufacturing it til next yr, pending FDA approval. Run from the drug. Ive reported the 9 of ten adverse side effects I had and docs still recommended I stay on. If you HAVE to be on meds and you are TRULY hypothyroid, try the natural hormones, but they also can have the side effect. Until your adrenals are working and you have the right minerals in your body to process the synthetic T4 it provides the TSH test alone (which is the standard) will be incorrectly measuring how you process the hormone and NOT how your thyroid is function.. I have Hashimotos and until and unless the autoimmune is addressed the pills are poison to my system but each side effect can be treated with MORE pharmacueticals making more money for Pfizer (Abbot in Canada) . If thyroid disorders were rare the drug never would have been developed, all the drug companies care about is getting your money and convincing docs to administer this drug GUARANTEES the patient will end up with a host of autoimmune disorders, high blood pressure , diabetes etc. (like me) and need lifetime( shortened, thx) RX treatment with MORE pills they sell, assuring they stay rich and we stay UNhealthy.

Liz...read my post 91. I hope you do ween off of the Levo instead of cold turkey. I take ERFA Dessicated thyroid from canada with zero problems. Levo was my worst nightmare. I would recommend you take a Dessicated thyroid med then over a number of months slowly lower the dose while you slowly introduce iodine and selenium...natural sources. That would be a good balance. That's what my naturopath is helping me do is to get off even the natural thyroid med, but could take up to 6 months to a year. I highly recommend Dr. David Clark based in Durham, NC. He has lots of YouTube videos about hypo thyroid and how to treat it naturally and does long distance apts on phone or Skype. He's been my doctor and his wealth of knowledge is incredible.

Hi I really feel for you. I have put on nearly 2 stone and its a heavy battle to even keep this weight of a whopping 12 stone.
I was heavily insulted on Sunday, by a friend whom I had not seen for 2 years who did not recognise me. He said, my God how come you got so fat!!
That was the end and I have stopped taking my 100mg of levothyroxine for good.
I am at the minute only eating enough food for a 9 month child.
I am in God's hands as this isn't a life, its a horror story called I am trapped in an alien body.

Hi my name is Margriet and it is an addition to an earlier post. OK yes I stopped taking levothyroxine and for the first week it was pure heaven, I had increased muscle strength and even at 12 stone I managed to jog a 100 yards on my walk.
On day 13 I woke up and found that the muscles in my neck had swelled making swallowing difficult. But when I tried to talk it was merely a squeak, my voice box had become damaged again, my muscles in my legs were so weak they barely carried me downstairs. I immediately took half of my prescribed dose and a couple of hours later I felt a little better. I am still on half of the original dose which is now only 50mg. I am ok, but terribly tired. I see an endo on the 28th August and going to tell him what has happened and ask if he will combine my prescription with T3. There are not many options left as due to new government legislations or should I say cutbacks!! It will soon be illegal to import natural dessicated thyroid into the uK and that means, Armour, Erfa and all the others. Its so disgusting, so I guess the customs will be seizing the packages and devastating many peoples lives in the process.

The only side effect that I have had on Levothyroxine is fatigue, however my doctor told me that it was an interaction with Atenolol. After I started taking them 8 hours apart, the tiredness has went away. I have actually lost 23 pounds in the 9 months that I have been on this medication, which concerns my doctor more than the fatigue.

I have not noticed acne, but I use a walnut shell face and body wash in the mornings and after getting off work (a job in 115* heat).

Hello again, well I had to start taking Levo again but decreased my dose of 100mg to 50mg and do feel somewhat better, I don't get anymore hypo's when out walking and wake earlier now at 7am. But sleeping is still poor and constipation is chronic. Went to see the Endocrinologist who refused to subscribe me T3 so I have gone ahead and ordered it from a reputable Mexican company at just £41 for 3 months supply. As it 4x as powerful as Levo I shall initially take a quarter of a tablet twice a day and see what happens. I need to lose the 2 stone I have put on since starting the levo.
Wish me luck :)

I have handed my SYNTHROID over to Health Canada for testing, with proof of my serious adverse side effects, which Abbott Labs failed to report (against the regulations) . Going off SYNTHROID saved my life. Stay away from that crap, the company "mislabelled" thousands of bottles, and claim "no reports of harm". But they shred reports, so they dont affect their PROFITS.

Hello, been off my levothyroxine for over a week now due to a uptake comming up. I was wondering if anyone has had withdrawal symptoms after a couple weeks or days. I actually feel 10x better off. I've been on levothyroxine since 2012 and i d'ont know if my body just got burned out, or its some other underlying problem which is where the radiation test comes in. Tired of "normal" test ranges but feeling like crap and gaining weight.

Before I started on levothyroxine I had acne on my cheeks, my chin, and next to my eyes and my neck. I was severly short of breath with heart racing at times. These problems are still there after starting levothyroxine but it can take years for all the damage from a low thyoid level to be repaired. WHY? Because they start you out on the lowest dose for safety reasons. Then gradually increase it every 6 months. It can take years before you are on enough of the horomone to make you feel good. I am an RN. I will be taking this med for the rest of my life because once you start taking it then eventually your thyroid will get lazy and stop working. There are 4 brands of Synthroid and if one brand bothers you find out from pharmacy what brand you were given and get a different brand instead til you find one that has less side effects, but some side effects are just due to the topsy turvy levels of horomones you experience at first. Your body is still making a little horomone and that is why lowest dose is prescribed but your amount of horomone can go up or down for years til you are on correct dose and your thyroid has stopped making horomone

I've been on Levothyroxine since I was 25 yrs old & I am now 56. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 7 yrs ago & have osteopenia, vit D def, scoliosis, chronic constipation, chronic cough, runny nose, acid reflex, weak ankles, low energy, had hysterectomy for heavy period, dry mouth, TMJ, facial pain, weakening eyesight & hearing, itchy throat, sore wrists, bad breath, bleeding gums, vaginal dryness & October 2013 was diagnosed with Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia which is a precancer of the breast & had 10 biopsies, a lumpectomy & am now considered high risk for breast cancer. Has anyone heard of Stop The Thyroid Madness because I truly believe thismed will slowly kill us all.

Hi! I am a 54 year old woman that lives today Cancer free and Thyroid free. I had some questions about my health and decided to take them to my Dr's office. Well in 2009 I was out with a friend watching 4 wheelers in the hills when I came back with a case of celluitis from a bad mouthed wood ant or some such, upon seeing a Dr I received an antibiotic, he noticed I had a dark coloration on my left ankle. I was told to go and get a doppler scan on my leg which led to getting put on blood thinners due to 4 clots . I had a damaged valve in my ankle two clots in the calf and one behind my knee. I put up with the warfarin for a little over a year then changed to fish oil.

I went to my MD and she said "what do I want to do"?, after I told her my Grandmother on my Mom's side had hypothyroid. I told her I wanted the full thyroid test not the two column but all four. The test came back both times in the mild hyper range. I was confused but read online till I was darn near blind to understand what was going on. The MD wanted to know what I wanted to do next , I said see an Endocrinologist . I really do not know what was going through the MD's mind. I am telling everyone this because I was recently asked by my Endocrinologist how long have you felt off or out of sorts? . I thought maybe 2 1/2 years but upon further reflection I figured most of my adult life. This last November 2013 I was diagnosed with a severe thyroid condition. The right side was visibly swollen and felt like someone was laying their hand on my throat. The left side felt tight . I had been winded and tired, the last 15 years I have weighed the most I have ever. (205) Before the 205 I weighed 135 ,140, 145, 155 and you know the rest.

I went through the hoops the MD the radiology test the Endocrinologist and the referal to the Surgeon. I have been very lucky. Since my clot issues I have been fighting through a ocean of paperwork and got on SSI after two years of DR visits and verifications. I was told I must prop my left leg up every three hours and I have yet to find a job where this is permissible. I WILL RE-INVENT MYSELF!

When I met the surgeon I was glad he was one who looked at you, listened to you and answered you as well as reassured you. The thought of the Endocrinologist was "I could try to biopsy your thyroid but it would be like several stabs in the dark." I could put you on medication but in 6 months you will be back for surgery ." " I generally don't like to see the swelling get past 2 1/2 ,see by 3cm you are looking at cancer creeping in." When we do the surgery we will biopsy the nodules (2) I had) and go from there.

I was to stay 1 night and go home and did just that. I made ice water my friend. I chewed things smaller for a couple of weeks. I still get a little dry throat or horse if I talk to much . Now 4 weeks out of surgery with no cancer per the biopsy. I was a wreck for a week over that one.

The family has a scattered history I have a small pea sized spot in my left breast closer to the center of my chest ,my older brother has had skin cancer my grandmother breast cancer my uncle prostate cancer. I have been given a chance to rethink and redo my life.

I am currently on the Levothoxrine started it at 125mcg and at two weeks after surgery the Endocrinologist moved it to 137mcg. This change was due to the fact that I am overweight and do not need to gain anymore still too soon to tell how it will work. I have menopause and it is most likely playing havok with things as well. I notice massive hunger in the morning after the 1hr wait taking the pill. Night time I get the heat rushes not too different from before the surgery. I am now considered Hypothyroid. I have no Thyroid. I am Synthetic Woman! LOL! I sure hope the weight will come off and I can feel something that resembles normal. I can breath better and do not get as winded. Thank God! for small advances.
