Klonopin And Suboxone (Page 6)

I was recently prescribed suboxone and klonopin. So I was wondering if anyone out there has taken this combo and what thier feelings are on the subject?
where are you located?
Yes, you can take suboxone and opiates, but there are VERY specific parameters of which you need to follow, or else you can get violently sick and sent into instant withdraw.I'm an opiate addict, and answering this question is very easy for me, because ive done this hundreds of times, andas it has been explained to me by my doctor numerous different times. The thing with suboxone is that it has an opiate blocker chemical(naloxone) in addition to the buprenorphine. The ratio of Bupren to naloxone is very high; meaning, there isn't much naloxone in each strip/pill. If you are at all inclined to take both opiates( heroin, oxys w.e.) and suboxone in the same day, I HIGHLY reccommend that you take suboxone first. Depending on how much suboxone you take, then that depends how long you gotta/should wait. If you take 4mgs or less, you can take opiates after 3-5 hours, if you take more than 4mgs, i would reccommend waiting 6-8 hours. Worst case scenario, the opiates arent as effective, but they will still work. After taking opiates, regardless of what kind or what quantity, you have to wait a minimum of 8 hours before taking suboxone again. If you take an oxycodone, then 2 hours later decide to take suboxone, you are going to get violently ill, and will be sent into instant withdraw, so trust me, its not worth it, wait it out, or like i said, take suboxone first that day/night.
You are a medical Dr. with a Ph.D (Not PHD)? Funny because the last I checked a medical doctor is required to have a M.D or a D.O. Which Im sure you know nothing about. A Ph.D in pharmacology would not make you a medical doctor, just a guy with a Doctorate. PharmD. is a Pharmacist degree, which is technically a medical doctor, as he has a Doctorate and works with medicine. You have a PHD.
Ive been on Klonopin and Suboxone for a while now. about 2 years. suboxone saved my life, and klonopin helped. if i werent on these drugs id probobly be dead by now. At first most doctors will tell you its not good to mix benzo's with your suboxone but i needed to. i had no choice, once your body becomes use to it, its safe. at first mixing them, keep at a pretty low dose of klonopin you dont know how it will affect you.
i agree..my brother of only 22 years whom was also perfectly healthy just passed away consequently from this drug interaction. i wish there was a way i could let people know how dangerous this is.
my friend died from the same thing and only 3 days apart from your son...........everyone's different some people can mix some cant.....the real question is, is it worth the risk?
Oooh noo I'm not taking any of these medications.
Only medication I'm on is birth control..
I'm on this message board because I was looking somethings up because my friends death had me thinking about all kinds of things and this site popped up.
I just knew that it was needed that I apologized for my misleading post.
I also say prayers every night before I go to sleep if I do not fall asleep before I say them.
As for yoga, I would like to do something like that.. but yoga its self does not do good on my hip and knee..lol.
Dear--Happy that you are doing better. My sincere request to you is to Learn Meditation . YOGA . Prayers will help to boost self confidence and eventually your reliance on medicines will reduce. Best Wishes and GOD Bless you.
I'm sorry about sounding ignorant and calling people a jackass if they take these both. What I actually meant to say is not to take them improperly at the same time. (meaning to catch a high) I understand that you can take the combo as long as followed correctly. I think my friend wasn't aware and its very sad. I failed to mention this in the beginning..my bad and I apologize to whom I offended..
Im just still really upset and it hurts.
I am an ER Doctor at a hospital in the Miami/Dade County area. The two medications can be taken at the same time. They affect different parts of your brain. I suggest you ask YOUR prescribing Doctor about your concerns. That is what he/she is there for. Some of the comments here are totally off target and just plain ignorant. Good luck with getting clean, sounds like you are on a good path.
The suboxone will cancel out the opiate's effect. Vise versa, (taking opiates then suboxone, while opiates are still in effect) will make you EXTREMELY sick. Violent withdrawl symptoms!!!
I agree. If he was on a low dose of both he must have had respiratory problems in the first place, one he may have not evenknown about. Sometimes we dont want to think that someone we love would take toomuch of something, but it is highly unlikely that a healthy young man with no breathing problems took low recomended doses of both medicatins and died from it. I take both and I never even got high from the combo. I am a tiny skinny little girl too. (not little as in young, just size) I am 29 years old.
Both Suboxone and any benzo slow your breathing which is probably why your friend, which first let me say I am very sorry for your loss, had died of respiratory failure. Though this can happen it only happens when youu take more than your prescribed. If your friend had no previous addiction to opiates and took suboxone along with the klonopin that is VERY dangerous. When someone has a tolerance to opiates it does not affect them the same way. It really depends on what your body is used to and how much of each medication you are taking. I am on xanax and suboxone and I have never even felt high from the combination. If you are taking it to get high and take too much of either one of the drugs it can cause death. Any medication can cause death when taking improperly whether alone or mixed. It is very sad what happened to your friend, but it is not a typical side effect when taking properly.
Yes. This is very true. What people (even doctors) fail to realize is that a lot of people become addicted to opiate based drugs because they are suffering from anxiety/depression. It is a way of self medicating. I was off of drugs for quite some time but was still suffering from anxiety and depression. I asked my doctor about a benzo as I had tried several anti-depressants and they did nothing for my anxiety! Because he knew of my past addictions he refused to give me a benzo assuming I would abuse it. Because of this I eventually ended up self-medicating again. It is sad because if I had been treated for the anxiety correctyly in the first place, this would have never happened. I am now on suboxone for myopiate addiction, but I was still suffering fromanxiety. I did find a doctorwho was willing to treat me for both and now I am onmy way to getting off ofsuboxone andmy anxiety is finally under control. If medication is taking as prescribed it poses NO danger. I started off with a .25 miligram of xanax and eventually worked up to the 1 mg. But as I increasedthexanax I decreased the suboxone. ahving the xanax made it easier to decrease the suboxone. I am now on 4 miligrams of suboxone a day and 3 miligrams of xanax. The combination is perfect. I NEVER get high from it, it only sustains me and eases my anxiety. I am now enrolled in college full time for Psychology andhave a 4.0. It is sad when people judge you and do not treat you properly because of past history. It only ends up worsening your conditionon both ends.
Very sad to learn this. Please accept my condolences.I presume the Doctor has advised not to take combination. There are many medicines which have lethal interactions and are best avoided. Some medicines also have interaction with food , milk and other seemingly simple substances.Suggest write it in front of you on a white Board.----.
only if you overmedicate. I take pain meds and xanax with no problems. Just take less benzo at first to see how you are doing, then up the dose if needed with doctor permission. That can cause death, but if not if taken exactally as prescribed you should have no problems.
I had a friend die 5 days ago on Nov. 15th 2011 from taking klonopin andd suboxone at the same time. IT IS LETHAL. His autopsy revealed that he had mixed the two and that was the cause of death because his respiratory system failed. He went to sleep and never woke up. I do NOT advise anyone to take these two meds at the same time. Whoever does do it, is just a jackass.
Woawoawoa! I don't know if OP is still reading replies, but dude, you're playing a dangerous game for two reasons.
a) Klonopin, as a benzo(diazepine) depresses respiratory fxn. (breathing). Subs, as an opiod, do the same. You are taking two drugs that can cause you to stop or have great trouble breathing. That is a dangerous cocktail. As another poster said, read the literature! I was just prescribed 2x8mg suboxone p.d. (I'm a heroin addict, and just recently can I say "recovering." Very recently, don't get preachy on me :D ) and in the booklet that came with the films (which I hate, ps. I was in detox and they gave me the pills. Now a dr. is giving me the films and I think they are nasty as hell) it specifies DO NOT TAKE BENZODIAZEPINES *XANAX, KLONOPIN, ETC.* WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICATION. They mean it, and say it for a reason!
b)Although I've heard of people using them recreationally (which seems absolutely dumb to me, like people taking methadone...you're not going to get very high off something designed to help users stop using. My gf tried a sub strip, and she compared it to taking 3 or 4 vicodin, which to me is like taking an Altoid...anyway), I assume you're using the suboxone as part of an opiate addiction recovery process. Now, that tells you that you have an addictive personality/a predisposition to drug addiction. Well, Klonopin is addictive, too! I watched someone in Detox withdraw from them and have a Grand Mal seizure, because she hadn't been honest upon intake and told them she was a benzo user...Benzo w/d can cause serious problem, delirium tremens (look it up if you don't know) like alcohol, and massive seizures. Aaaaanndd it's addictive as hell. I would ask your doc if perhaps there is a non- or less - addictive alternative to the Klonnies (trust me - I love them too, but they are not worth the price you pay in the long run!!!). That is, unless you're getting them off the street, in which case, be wise and don't - at best, you're setting yourself up for some very negative side effects, and at worse, you're digging a grave that it won't take you very long to stumble into.
Please be careful.

I would deffinitly re-think that and also bring it up to your doctor that every article out there about using those to drugs together advises not to. It can really play havoc with your brain. I have been taking Suboxone for a year and I was prescribed clonazepam by my psychiatrist. I tell my medical doctor about all prescriptions that I am given because it is very important that he knowes. He told me that I deffinitly do not want to be taking the two together. I am not putting you down, I just really would advise to get another opinon about that.
No, you do not get sick if you take other opiates such as oxy, morphine or heroin with suboxen from personal experience you just dont feel s*** the suboxen sticks harder to the receptors in your brain so the other opiates bounce off. Naloxen does not enter your blood stream if you put the suboxen under your toung, however if you snort or try to inject suboxen it well put you in withdrawl within 10 min. If your on Suboxen it well make you withdrawl from that too.
