As for the Kolonapin, valium and ativan. Over the past 4 years, ive used all three. First was valium 10mg tid. It help some with the anxiety but not enuf. It also helped a bit as a muscle relaxer. But my then dr changed me to ativan 1mg, tho he was against it. I changed dr's in sept 2013 who is a general prac, but also a pain mgmt dr. He didnt like the ativan either, mostly cuz I was getting 150 pillz a month so he recently ( dec 2013) switched me to kolonapin 1mg four times daily. I havent noticed major difference between them but so far the kolonapin is working best.
As for pain, they only increase meds and dosage. Started with vicodin 5, 7.5 & 10mgs. Then old dr switched me to methodone 10mg 3x daily which didnt work at all, hence reason for changing drs. We looked at my injurys ( fractures at L5/S1. Major compression of my T-12 and deformaty of my T8. We did ct and xrays so dr gave oxycodone 30mg instant release. After a few months I told dr if really wasnt working. Now im on dilaudid and I cant sing its praises enuf. I take 8g # times a day and.my pain has gone from a 9 to like a 5-6, the best relief ever had. I also take soma 350mg three times daily and im in heaven. NO side effects from any of them. Dr monitors me but also trusts me.
Hope any of this helps someone.

Pam you not correct..... and a bit judgmental..... see Feeling blessed reply up above,,, you need to get your facts straight before you start acting like you know everything!!
I Have an extremely rare autoimmune disorder... the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me until there was severe nerve damage done in my hands, forearms, feet and calves.... I feel as if I am being stung by a bee constantly. My hands and feet actually turned black from the vascultis that I had along with it. I do not have cancer. (and I pray for everyone who does), but I thank god for my pain clinic doctor everyday. He started me off with Oxycodone.... it didn't even touch my pain, I couldn't work... it was horrible. He then put me on Morophine and I could actually sleep and work..... I have been on this medicine for over 10 years... it gave me my life back. I have been able to raise my three daughters... and achieve a very huge job promotion. I do not abuse my medicine, and I would not have very much quality of life without it. My point is.....unless you are walking in that patients shoes.. (the one with a back injury and pain), you shouldn't judge what kind of medicine they are taking. I have seen people with back injuries that can't even move. I hope you never have to deal with any type of pain in your life, especially something that is chronic, and you can't get away from. Take care, and God Bless!
I guarantee if you have to stop abruptly for any reason...Hell doesn't even describe what you will go through..However it will depend on your addiction level..eventually everyone crosses it at some time or the other...With continuous use over long periods of time or even uses off and on at different times...please find an answer for your issues..cartilage and bone..Everything regenerates with the right natural regime...research cannabis therapy...Rick Simpson style oil...I Beg you...look for the answer, it is there....I can't tell you how I have been healed from Cannabis Therapy...I used so many pain meds in my life. Eventually they stop working on pain and start killing you.
I'm new to this site so please excuse me if this is out of place. I've been on Lorazepam for 4-6 yrs. Panic an anxiety pain multiple physical prob. shoulder muscles so tight it has pulled my c spine to reverse position, L4-5 bulging disk, stenosis, by lateral syatic, by lateral carpal tunnel, both knees prob., high blood pressure, developed type 2 diabetes due to 50pd. weight gain due to Dr. order Not to excercise because of back prob. I'm also diagnosed with manic depression.I have been taking Lorazepam 2 mg. 1/2morn. 1/2 afternoon 1 whole at bed. I was sent to a psychiatrist to get Lorazepam, Dr. Switched me to 1mg. Clonazepam 1/2 in morn.1 whole at night. im extremely sensitive to most meds. I'm petrified of withdraws, my issue is I'm goin to run out before insurance will allow next refill, I also just found out that most of my symptoms I thought were panic & anxiety are addictive behavior needing more Clonazepam.. I never knew, I'm scared that I have to get off this med. I have broke my 1mg. Into 1/4 for morning and 1/2 1 night, then down to a 1/4 till I run out in a few days. I hate this all this time I really thought I was having panic attacks and it's just my body wanting more, why didn't the Drs. Tell me this sooner I never would have gone this long.
OK. It was invented 100 years ago in Germany for those injured in battle and I did try a few. I hate pain medicine although I am currently using Norco for a Semi Truck accident but I thought HydroMorphone was right under Fentanyl.
Dilaudid is actually just a narcotic analgesic, it isn't just for people with cancer. As a matter of fact, most modern ERs use it for people that come in with any type of severe pain, including migraines, gastritis and kidney stones.
It's actually not as commonly used for cancer, since often more potent medications are required, such as Fentanyl.
To the OP, I am very happy that you've found something that works for you so well!
Are there any other questions or concerns?
You may be in Heaven now.But if you ever get without you will be in withdrawl Hell..
dilaudid is a medication for people with Cancer.not Back Pain..
Dilaudid is for those with Cancer, not spinal problems? Highly addictive.
Why did you switch Doctors is a medicine was not working?
