Ketamine For Depression? (Page 26)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

It was recommended by the members of a separate thread that one be started that directly relates to ketamine and it's use to treat depression.

If anyone besides myself would like to discuss it's use as a treatment for depression, feel free to post your questions, answers and experiences here.

This thread is an offshoot of a related one that discussed a treatment of Scopolamine for depression.

Glyx-13 is in clinical trials . Dr. Lebowitz in NYC is participating. The next phase of the study will be "open label" and expected to begin in April. Worth a try for anyone interested in ketamine. In the open label study, you will know you are getting the medication and the study is supposed to continue until fda approval. Free and legal!

I know I have the same Dr I have had 4usions this month to the same experience didn't bring the music with me but was just trying to get a general idea if anybody else was having the same experience because it just kinda seems like a bad trip being in a room all aloneI am still not feeling well which is disturbing because that's $2000 to spend andand don't know what else to do how many a few shins did you have

I have not had ketamine but glyx-13 infusion takes about 5- 10 minutes which includes inserting the IV, flushing with saline, a 3-minute timed infusion, flushing with saline again, taking out IV. There are no hallucinations, etc.

This Ketamine infusion thing seems like a mixed blessing, seems like an awful lot of overhead, expense, time, especially if it needs repeating. I take intranasal Ketamine and find it affordable and convenient. By the way how long does a ketamine infusion take. I worry a little that ketamine can do internal damage but maybe that's just for heavy dose abusers.

John,
I had 3 ketamine infusions and they definitely did cause a dissociative experience during the infusion, and "out of it" feelings afterwards for about 1-2 hours coupled with extreme fatigue which for me lasted for most of the day. My doctor, Dr Glen Z Brooks in Manhattan, would come in and check on my every now and then, especially the first time I was infused. After telling him that I found the experience somewhat scary.disturbing, he recommended bringing music with me, to try to control the way that the experience went. I brought in an mp3 player and earplugs and listened to uplifting music. It made a big difference in the way I experienced the dissociative "trip". It still felt strange, like I wasn't in my body, but the experience was totally different as i was comforted by music I enjoy. If you go for more infusions, I would highly recommend this technique.

John,
I am not at all exposed to the environment that it sounds that you are in. And what that sounds like is one of theses "clinics" that are transfusing the stuff to you in a doctor's office type of setting.? I have read about this and got sort of angry when I read these doctors are going through all of this and that and subject you to what it sounds like in your own words "a bad trip". Two things. They must really be giving you the drug and a good bit of it at one time to produce that "trippy" type feeling that I for "one old hippie from the 60s does not want to go back down that road. The hell with a bad trip. I am sort of repulsed by any type of trip because of the ones you could not quickly come down from many years ago. So screw the trips. I would be curious to ask if you could get or receive your own self type delivery system that did not make you do as much as it sounds like you are. With the "compounded nasal spray' delivery system, you are the one in control of the amounts as I think it should be. I get a 40ml bottle a month and quite often run out. The good thing is there are no complications from running out. No withdrawals, no nothing. You just don't have it and I guess that is okay. And to describe its benefits would be to sort of say this. Ketamine, sort of allows me the opportunity to look at things from a different prospective. I think the ketamine is one of the most powerful new type of drugs to help people and give them the opportunity to sort of "take another picture" to quote Carly Simon of our lives as well as get my mind off of all this pain crap so I can function. Something about the chemical reactions of the med in my mind really makes a helluva difference in my life. I just know it works so well, and you shouldn't have to be subjected to all that crap when a doc can write a script for the nasal spray ? Perhaps they are doing all of this "procedure crap to facilitate themselves making a lot of money. What a shame, as this stuff help s for real. Leave it to the medical community to squeeze every buck they can out of someone. Those bastards. Sorry.

Hello again all,
Forgive my previous posts for re reading it sounded as if I am trying to make connections. Truth was that I was really wanting to thank whoever had the foresight to give folks such as ourselves a theatre if you will to openly discuss these topics. The interaction is invaluable in that getting some of this research based talk regarding ketamine out to individuals as myself struggling with depression and pain. I will say this. To me pain and the levels my body deals with can always be handled with less narcotics ( opiates ) when I have take Ketamine nasal spray and I know it is related to the uplift from my other full time job depression. As in if you sprain an ankle playing ball in a game and sit on the bench you will think about that ankle. Where as if you had played the game out on the ankle chances are by the end of the game your sprain would perhaps be GONE? Seriously. Thanks for this outlet.

@LM, please scroll down and read Jim D's experience with Ibogaine. There is quite a bit of information for Ibogaine but mostly for treatment for opiate addiction . In my experience, it did wipe out my depression in 24hrs, but it did more than that. For lack of a better explanation, it reset my mind. It's as if the depression was never there. I can think clearer, and for once in 20 years have some idea of what direction I want to take in life. It's been 4 days since I took the Ibo (2/8/2014) so I cannot tell you if these effects are temporary and if I'll end up back in a funk, but these past few days have been amazing. I'm not depressed but I'm not estatic either. I still think that life sucks but I can now cope with the day to day drudgery without it bringing me down.

I suggest you watch all the video testimonials on Youtube, just search for Ibogaine Root Revolution. The channel name is RootRevolution. Root Revolution is the Youtube channel for a Ibogaine clinic in Costa Rica. All of those testimonials are true to what I expereienced. Here is the direct link:

http://www.youtube.com/user/RootRevolution

Ibogaine is not just for drug addiction.

LM, I read your past post and you would probably be interested in the pain-management aspect of Ibogaine. In one of the testimonials, a logger speaks of waking up without the backpain that he's always known. I can attest to this. I've always had lower back pain and terrible join pain but I've managed to live with it. After Ibo, the pain is gone. Walking up the flight of stairs at work is now a breeze. Before I'd be winded by the time I reached the top. I'm even considering picking up running again...running for distance -- thats how good my knees feel. All my joints feel great -- knees, knuckles, neck. I feel relaxed no tension in any of my muscles.

I ordered 4g of Ibogaine TA for $269 from Ibogaworld, a reseller based in the EU, but the ship from South Africa. It took approximately 7 working days to deliver to California using registered post, the cheaper shipping method ($10). Contact Michelle from the site if you have any questions.

I used only 3g of Ibogaine TA for my full flood dose.

As for Ketamine, I've tried it and it didn't work for me. I was prescribed Nasal ketamine along with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) by Dr.Sabjen in San Diego. Despite all the good press that it's getting, Ketamine is all media hype.

If you scroll to the very beginning of this thread you can read about my past expereience with Ketamine and depression. I start posting as dave then switched names to 888 because there was another David on the thread.

If anyone would like to contact me to discuss my experience, I'll give the moderator permission to give out my email address.

Hi LM... glyx-13 is a new drug in phase 2 trials which is a derivative of ketamine with less side effects. If you Google it you can read about the clinical trials to date. It is scheduled to go to an open label trial in April of this year, meaning, if you qualify, you can get treatment free. The company has stated they will continue the open label study going until FDA approval. It is administered via IV infusion. An oral version is also in development.

Hello City Girl and 888,
I just wanted to ask what "GLX 13" ? I think you said and this other thing "Iboga". that one of you mentioned. What is this?? I had never heard of either of those until reading it in here. Does it wipe out your depression and give you a new look at life.?? If so I wish I knew more about it. I read the other day where the reason ketamine was hard to get was because the pharmaceutical companies cannot make money off of it. I swear. Could it not be enough that they could help millions of people with this drug get free from depression and lead a semi normal life. Does it always have to be associated with MONEY. And as I said in an earlier post even getting it without getting ripped off is non existent with my experience. The gov't or whomever know that this stuff helps. Could they not once put the welfare of their citizens before the value of a dollar. Very very sad. Thanks for this website. Its good to know you are not always alone. Thanks all

I am all in Tennessee. I bought a house in Old Hickory on my GI Bill. The VA gives me methadone for pain. I have gout and Rheumatoid Arthitis. I have one supplier in Pakistan, but I do not like to get mail from that country. Do you have a source in the USA, or better that the middle east? I would very much appreciate another way to get ketamine Hcl. IV.
Thanks,
Larney

@Jim D. Thanks for turning me onto Iboga. I took it this weekend and it's nothing short of amazing. I know it's only been a few days and it's far too earlier to tell what long-term effects it may have, but I feel amazing, renewed, refreshed. This was the answer i've been looking for these past 20 yrs.

Hi Cristobal. GLYX-13 will be used in an open label study which may begin by April. Repotedly, the study will continue until FDA approval. The dose will be administered weekly, or in some cases, every other week when approppriate for the patient. One location will be Chicago. If ketamine helped you, glyx-13 would be worth looking at. Less addictive, medically supervised, legal, free. I am in the withdrawal glyx-13 study which is winding down now.

Been suffering depression repeatedly my entire adult life. I've used black market ketamine and methoxetamine (which lasts longer, is much cheaper) I've successfully used it intramuscularly- which means I stick a hypo needle straight into my shoulder, thigh or butt. The "afterglow" would last me an extra day or so, so I felt better than normal, long after any intoxication wore off. Of course I eventually came to use too large a dose, and my family found me confused and incoherent, and sent me to rehab, where I was the most normal patient onsite. I have tried almost a dozen antidepressant meds, including MOAIs and was at one point taking three different antidepressants simultaneously. Ket and mexxy were the only things that reliably gave me lasting relief, but I would appreciate some instruction if not medical supervision when I try it again. (it is when, not if)

Why would someone expect depression would NOT come back after treatment is stopped?
