Is Soma A Narcotic Muscle Relaxer? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

My doctor has told me that that soma is a narcotic and she does not want to prescribe it to me any more. I suffer from chronic back pain as well as muscle spasms. I have tried other muscle relaxers as well as anti inflamatories and none of then do not work. Soma is the only one I have found to work for me without making me sleepy. Any information you can give me i would really appreciate.

Thank you,

Dana

Yes it is a schedule 4 drug but it is not a narcotic. The law only classifies soma as if it were a narcotic. Again this is a water soluble drug. It is made in a laboratory and is not a true narcotic because it does not build up in your blood / fat cells as narcotics and marijuana do. In 48 hours it is gone from your system!

I have chronic back pain also and some is the only thing that helps me too. No doctors will give them to me either. They only give me 1 a day, what a joke Pain Management clinics is. People in severe pain has to sit in a pain clinic for 3-4 hours for no help or relief at all. Most people going to my pain clinic looks like crack heads. (Just my opinion.) I had 3 major back surgeries, my last one in May ( in San Francisco) and still no relief. Well he ( my surgeon in San Francisco is awesome) did fix me to where I could stand up straight again after 2-1/2 years of being hunched over. It's all a damn money racket. I said I would never wish my pain on anyone but, I sure hope some of my doctor and pain management doctor feels my pain one day.

Soma - Do they come up on a U/A? Since you say it's not a narcotic what do they come up as?

The only muscle relaxer that worked for me was Soma. I had to change to a different PCP who would not prescribe Soma. He did prescribe Tizanidine 4mg. generic for Zanaflex. It worked almost the same as the Soma did. The difference for me was the Soma made me sleepy but the Tizanidine did not. Give it a try, I hope it works for you as it did for me

Yeah, my pharmaceutical Walgreens is acting like (DETECTIVES) instead of filling the prescriptions. I told them if you want to be (PHARMACEUTICAL) then do your job and fill them. If you want to be (detectives) you should of went in police working business!! (I'M DISGUSTED WITH WALGREENS NOW)! THE OTHER WALGREENS I WORKED WITH NEVER, NEVER TREATED MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS LIKE RHIS ONE HAS!! THERE LOSING A-LOT OF BUSINESS BECAUSE THE WAY THEY ARE!

I left Walgreens after 20 years. I had a rod put in from my skull to under my shoulder blades. Plus they went through the effort not to remove a failed fusion and took bone from my hip. I20 stitches and staples. My surgeon gave me 5 days worth of meds over and over. Walgreens said I had to wait til the morning I was out. I can't drive, I need them during the night. wtf...most places are 2 days early with narcotics. It was a pain in the ass but I had everything transfered. But first I got in an argument with them..I have a surgeon getting me through a 9 hour surgery. I have a pain dr. that was working on stuff too. Plus I have a care provider from the county cause I'm disabled. A home care nurse that comes 2 to 3 times a month. Not too mention the dilaudid I was taking was over 4800.00 a month so they weren't real thrilled about filling it. With all those people what I really needed was Walgreens giving me s***.

Re: HOUSE (# 64) Expand Referenced Message

Soma Compound with Codeine (carisoprodol, aspirin, and codeine phosphate) is a combination of a pain/fever reducer, muscle relaxer, and narcotic pain medicine used to treat pain, muscle spasm, and other symptoms related to injuries or painful muscular conditions. Soma Compound with Codeine is available in generic form.

Some states have moved Soma to a Schedule II. Soma is a Muscle Relaxer. Other Schedule II meds are Morphine, Oxycontin, Zohydro, etc. When a med is reclassified as a Schedule II is it because it is has shown to be highly addictive.

Angel: It's sort of a weird distinction. Some tests, they come up as benzos, some tests, they come up as barbiturates. Even tho they really aren't either one. And I think it has to be a GCMS test in order for it to turn up....most probation departments don't do GCMS, but many addiction doctors and specialists do. So the real answer is: MAYBE. Sorry, but unless you can find out how many "panels" the test is, or whether they do GCMS or not, it's really a crap shoot.

What's funny is some people are using their pets to get drugs. Veterinarian does not hesitate. Unreal! Doctors and nurses are the worst abusers. I worked for at least 10 of them and nine of them were addicted. One had me go to a satellite office and pick up some methamphetamine for he and his nurse. A neurosurgeon was hooked on Valium. A pediatric surgeon was hooked on Darvon. Give me a break!
