Is Soma A Narcotic Muscle Relaxer? (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy doctor has told me that that soma is a narcotic and she does not want to prescribe it to me any more. I suffer from chronic back pain as well as muscle spasms. I have tried other muscle relaxers as well as anti inflamatories and none of then do not work. Soma is the only one I have found to work for me without making me sleepy. Any information you can give me i would really appreciate.
Thank you,
Dana
Wow Chuck, what Pharmacy do you go to? My Town Pharmacy caters to drug seekers, just a fact of life. Back to you, what did you do to make the pharmacy suspect you are an abuser? I'd tape it and then file a Legal complaint, but there must be more to this story?
Go to another doctor. Explain to them your medical condition and that you are a grown responsible adult, that you have tried other muscle relaxers and the somas work the best for you.
I actually had a doctor prescribe me these when i told him something along those lines.
It is BEYOND mind boggling to me that xanax, klonopins, remeron, tramadol are all easier to get or be prescribed that soma it seems like and you can DIE!!!!!! withdrawing from the previous mentioned drugs.
let me tell you something, doctors are no smarter than you or I. they went to college a couple years longer, but now with the internet and information being exchanged so freely, you are just as knowledgable or moreso than your doctor is about the side effects of drugs.
just remember, if your iq is 100, you can take college classes for 1000 years and your iq will go nowhere.
there are lots of people who drive trucks, work at convenient stores, and mop up piss in public bathrooms that are way more intelligent than most doctors will ever be.
FACT.
My doctor has no problem writing for somas. The problem is the pharmacist filling them. I don't understand how when you have legitimate reasons,& script, how a pharmacy can deny the meds, because they call it"drug seeking behavior".
Hello Dana: my name is Carole and the same is true for me. I suffer from Fibromyalgia, ptsd, anxiety, and like you I have chronic back pain with massive muscle spasms..... terrible back pain. Life was fine until the other day I went to the doctor and for no reason he took my Soma away along with my life. I was only taking 3 tablets a day but it worked! Now, here I sit suffering like a dog and completely imobile crying because no one seems to cares. I care about you and know how you're suffering. I'm so sorry......I get it.
SOMA is a drug that works on specific areas of the body if any doctor tells you different get a second opinion.Examples of soma use might be arthritis, degenerative joint disease, even as an alternative to xanex .Soma is not really that addictive because it is a water soluable drug so it is out of your system in 48 hrs.Soma is not a narcotic and has received way to much negative publicity from doctors and patients who have no idea about this med.
Thank you,
It is a very effective medicine, it works better than most muscle relaxers, and the reason why doctor's are refusing to write prescriptions is because of the Opiate Epidemic that is swarming across the country right now! These people have been found dead from using the drug not for what it was intended for, but for recreational purposes and misusing the drug! It is making it extremely hard for people who really need the medicine! If you have a Pain Management doctor, you can usually get it that way, but not from your Primary Care doctor! The *****s who abuse the drug are making it almost impossible for really sick and hurting people! Soma is a very effective medicine if used for the right reasons and for the right illness!
Soma, or as it is known as its generic name, carisoprodol is NOT a narcotic. Because of it's potential for abuse, it was recently reclassifies as a contolled substance, like other drugs that are narcotic, but it is not. It is a cns depressant, central nervous system, used for skelatal muscle pain. It's a shame, because peiple who actually need this drug now get labeled as drug seekers because of this.
Bikerbonnie,
I've got crushed vertebrae at T6,7&8, ruptured discs there crushing my spinal cord by 50%, ruptured discs & nerve impingement at cervical, thoracic & lumbar spine levels. Plus i have scoliosis. DDD & DJD. It's all inoperable. I've had years of physical therapy, been through pain management programs, back school & to multiple pain management Drs. In addition to spinal injuries, I have torn rotator cuffs, severe osteoarthritis in my hands, spine and knees, and it's working on my right hip now! I'm 63 and feel much older most days. I spent years on heavy duty opiates, anti-inflammatory drugs (ruined my stomach, I can't take them at all anymore), mega doses of neurontin...enough! I stopped all of those 8 years ago. Most days I am in some degree of pain in the 7 to 8 range, chronic. When it becomes intolerable, a 350 MG carisoprodol makes it better. Now my primary family Dr is refusing to prescribe them, gave me Flexeril last time. Did nothing. I took 2, still no relief. I saw your post about Canadian pharmacies being an online source. All I checked say they have no record of Carisoprodol or Soma. :( Do you still get them online? If so, can you share the link to the source please??? I'm desperate. Three top neurosurgeons in Seattle say they've never seen this degree of damage in an ambulatory person, I should be paralyzed, yet they refuse the muscle relaxers I only take (on average) one a day?! Thank Hollywood celebs who became abusers for the over the top restrictions on all these drugs. Ugh!!! Help. And, it's not a junk drug, it's a lifeline. Obviously that person has never walked in my shoes, or anyone else in severe chronic pain!
I've had 8 back surgeries. Have horrible shoulder pain due to my bad back.
I make "Golden Paste" & take it every day. It works miracles. Google it. It's not expensive to make & will last about a month. I also give it to my dog & he has no limps any longer. I also add Organic Ginger to the Golden Paste.
Actually, your doctor probably knows that it's called a convenience store, not a convenient store. I think i'll stick with my doctor for medical advice.
Walgreens has given me nothing but grief since i had a spinal fusion. Every single time i tried to fill a prescription, they acted like they knew more then my well respected neurosurgeon did. I finally got tired of fighting, and transferred to a small, mom and pop type pharmacy. Have had no problems since. I am a happy camper. Avoid the big chains, and support the local, little guy. Best of luck, feel better.
It's like everything people have to have control over you. Pharmacists think thay are Dr's. Dr's think thay are God. I have had it with our medical professionals. Stay out of our business. If I need some valium I should be able to go and pay for it. If I'm in a lot of pain screw you Dr's. Let me find some pain relief. If that is codeine, percocet, Vicodin so be it. You pharmacist and doctors just get out of our lives. Truth be told Dr's and pharmacist use the same drugs and can get away with it. I know. I have had Dr's on my boat when I was a guide and that would pop them like candy. Screw you people. All you do is keep people in pain that needs help. Forget the DEA agents. All these laws you pass will come back and bite you in the ass when something happens to you. So get out of my life and others.
It's the DEA that's mostly to blame for making even the good pain doctors paranoid of legal hassles. The doctor I had used to care- or seemed to- until he had someone sue him for NOT prescribing narcotics by saying he had over prescribed previously. This doctor only gives what you report you need/his medical opinion sees needed & drug panels every 3 months, so the pt must have been lying at some point. When they demanded too high an amount of narcotics, they sued saying it wasn't "fair" to quit increasing their dose when they became addicted. Now this doc prescribes based on some random DEA monitor, not listening to his pt. :(
ME TOO!!! NOthing and I mean NO thing has EVER relieved my back pain/muscle spasms like Soma does and I myself being a disabled American Veteran who was 1st prescribed Soma 33 years ago can not find a Dr. ANYWHERE that will continue keeping me on it!!! Really sucks, it's not their GD back that's hurting!! Soma can be found over the internet via the "Canadian" pharmacies. Costs out of pocket but better than NOTHING! eh?
Soma is habit forming. thats enough to stay AWAY from them for me. I've been on a benzo for years that thankfully so far my weaning off process is working. but please those of you who have been lucky enough to bypass the habit forming drugs keep it up. taking them might help but in the longrun they will ruin you!
Bill the cat: "Soma is a junk drug".... can you explain what that is supposed to mean? And why so hostile?
Thanks for the tip!!! My Dr prescribed a Zanaflex generic for me and it works as well as Soma! It makes me pretty tired though, but better than muscle spasms and pain!
Soma is non narcotic and has never been a narcotic, sorry. Soma Compound can have Codeine in it and would be considered a narcotic
