Is Soma A Narcotic And Does It Show Up In A 12 Panel Urine Drug Screen Test
UpdatedI GET DRUG TESTED EVERY 2 WEEKS AND I HURT MY BACK AND MY AUNT GAVE ME A SOMA AND I HAVE A 12 PANEL DRUG SCREEN URINE TEST AND I WANNA MAKE SURE I'M NOT GONNA FAIL MY DRUG TEST.
Would like to know the answer to this one myself...
I have been taking soma for years. I've been on parole, probation, in rehabs & have never had anybody say anything about soma in my system. Even when I have taken them that day or day before... BUT I have never had or even heard of a 12 panels screen. What all do they test for? I don't believe soma is a narcotic. So I would believe ur gonna be ok. Just flush ur system as much as possible between now & test day. Drink lots of water, tea, lemonade, etc as u can everyday till u test. Good luck.
YES THERE IS A SUCH THING AS A 10 PANEL DRUG SCREEN,AS WELL AS A 12 PANEL WHICH TEST FOR EVERYTHING UNDER THE MOON I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS GONNA BE OK....THANK YOU VERY MUCH GARFEILD....THANK U THANK U,THANK YOU
Soma contains the active ingredient Carisoprodol, it is a muscle relaxant and, as such, it is not tested for in drug tests.

This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.
Are there any other questions?
What did the soma show up as? I also heard it could give a false positive for morphine?
Teena, they have never posted back yet to let us know if it showed up as anything.
But yes, Soma/Carisoprodol has been known to cause a false positive for Morphine in a small percentage of people.

Are there any other comments or questions?
I WOULD JUST LIK TO THANK EVERYONE FOR TAKING THE TIME TO NSWER MY QUESTION ABOUT SOMA,HOWEVER I HAD A SUPRISE DRUG SCREN AND I HAD TAKEN TWO SOMAS THE NIGHT BEFORE AND I CAME BACK CLEAN!!! SO THANK U THANK U THANK U TO ALL......
soma does show up in blood and urine testing, if it is not perscribed you can have it held against you if it is found , it is a strong muscle relaxant and very abused,
Yes soma shows up on drug test. It showed up on mine after everyone said it would not. I dont understand this is it or is it not a narc. Some say yes some say no.
That's odd cause it didn't show up on mine! Bummer! I guess ur the small percentage that it shows up as morphine right?
You said soma showed up positive on a drug test, was is just a dip or was the test sent to a lab? Because I'm doing drug court and get randomly tested and was not sure if soma was considered a narcotic or not, I'm told if it isn't I'm fine to take it. If it just shows a fake positive for morphine on a dip I'm fine because they send the test for lab evaluation, but I could really use your help finding this out, thank you.
If it is a narcotic I would not know because I get 300mg morphine aday, percocet 4 times aday, soma 4 times aday and 3 klonopin a day.I do know it does not show up own 5 panel.
no, soma, is not a narcotic. is not on a 12-panel drug screen test.
Soma never showed up on my 10 or 12 (not sure which 1) screen ua's so I'm sure you'll be fine. I took 3 the day b4 & was worried, so I went to Walgreens & bought their most expensive test (dipstick) & it came back fine. I was "clean" in both tests. I've heard it comes up as morphine but when retested it comes up that it was a false positive. I hope this helped & wasn't 5 wks too late like my reply was! î‰ happy testing
I think this depends on the kind of urine test that is ordered. I get UA's every few months, and my pain mgt. Dr uses a 12 panel screen. Soma absolutely is NOT included in those standard 12 and I am 1000% sure of this... I do take Soma and I'm also looking at the test form right now!! However, the Dr's also have the option of testing for many other things... they just need to ask for the other ones on the test request form. Most of the time, my Dr just orders the 12 panel, but maybe twice a year he will spring a "full" test on me, which DOES include Soma, and stuff like Fentanyl, Ambien, Tramadol, even alcohol.
Having said all this... in Jan. 2012, Soma became a controlled substance, and it wasn't controlled up to that point. So we may indeed see Soma included on a standard 12-panel test in the future, who knows.
For now, on a 12-panel test, you're all good, 100% sure.
What the heck, as long as I'm looking at this test form, here's what is tested on a 12-panel urine test. Sorry this will be long, but it's good info and standard on any 12-panel. If the Dr orders a 12-panel, all of this is tested either positive or negative. They also have the option of requesting a QUANTITY (like how much is in your system, not just a positive or negative), but my Dr has never done this and I don't think it's very common.
Tested on 12-panel: THC, Cocaine, Opiates (includes Codeine, Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Morphine and Norhydrocodone), Oxycodone (seperated from "Opiates" for some reason), Amphetamines, Meth, Phencyclidine, MDMA (ecstasy, I believe), Barbituates, Benzos, Methadone, and Tricyclic anti-depressants.
There's another 25 things that could be tested ONLY if requested individually by the Dr. Weirdly, heroin is NOT included in the standard 12 panel above. This extra stuff includes heroin, bath salts, ketamine, Soma, synthetic pot, Lyrica, etc.
I hope this helps anybody who is stressing about their urine tests ! Good luck !
Linda,
How do you know a quantitative analysis isn't ordered? I ask because my pm doc sends my urine off to a lab and I have no idea how he sensed a low reading on my prescribed oxycodone-which I had run out of 4 days prior to test. I never see what they test for, I only get a bill. My dilemma, which brought me here, is I had a different doctor prescribe Soma and I'm afraid my pm might dismiss me if it shows on my urine drug panel. I told my 2nd treating doctor (for injections) that I cannot take controlled sub. from other docs (narcotics) & he prescribes me Soma & Tramadol. I trusted him but I think he screwed me. Now, according to your post, both will show up in my urine. I am a legitimate pain patient, unlike 90% of the posters here.
I have been taking morphine for three years along with soma andd loratab due to an injury .I desperatly want to get off these and have tried the withdrawls are horrific.I don't think I can just go cold turkey they offer a methadone clinic here but do not want to go that route.please advise
Soma is a controlled substance in many states. It is a narcotic muscle relaxer, but turns into meprobamate in the body when metabolized by the liver. Meprobamate is the generic name for Miltown and Equanil, an anti-anxiety medicine. I worked in a pharmacy for 12 years so I know this to be true.

I don't get drug screening. I have never had a problems with soma. I have used it for years on and off for relief of terrible muscle spasms due to osteoarthritis, Lupus and fibromyalgia.

AMC of Nashville!!! Expensive but I’m off the opiates. My pcp rx’s Me Soma and the clinic doesn’t want me taking it. My UA is Wednesday and I don’t know if it will show up because they will put a ding on my record.
A little late in the game but wanted to tell you my experience. In a recovering heroin addict. My addiction, like many others, started because of pain. Pain that made doctors prescribe copious amounts of pain killers. Its been a rough road bit I just celebrated my 1 year clean mark. ((Woot woot!)) I am on my counties color code call in via child protective services. I've had not ONE bad screen. That is, until I was put on soma. I'm on suboxone so I'm tested every month by my doctor. The first test I took after getting on soma came back with a false positive morphine screen. He almost cut me off my suboxone then and there. I begged him to repeat the test or send it out. He did thank God but would only give me a one week supply. When I came back a week later he apologized and said that the metabolites proving methadone was truly methadone were NOT present. So yes it most DEFINITELY can cause false positives. I was also accused of abusing benzos. I am not about to get hooked on another hard core drug so I'm VERY careful how I take them. But every few weeks or so 2 different benzos pop up!! 1 is definitely my klonopin. Turns out the remron I take can ALSO show false positives from methadone!! It only happenes once in a while so I'm not sure what the deal is. Why does it show sometimes and sometimes not. I just thank God my doctor was willing to check further into it!
Suboxone is the BEST thing I could have done for myself. Not only that, it is BETTER for my PAIN. I've had 3 fusions, one of them was lumbar back surgery. My pain is certified chronic. And I PROMISE you if you really want to be free of those bulls***, pills, ask your PM to refer you to a doctor that prescribes this medication. Don't worry it's NOT weaker than the average pain med. Actually stronger. Hun, it truly is the BEST choice I could have ever made for myself.
Re: TBABY (# 64)
It relaxes you. Be careful not to take too many at once because you can go into what's called a soma coma. Doesn't last long but kinda scary. Hope that helped.

You can always go inpatient at a hospital or mental health facility. They will keep you 5/7/10 days. Tell them the truth n that you don’t feel safe doing it alone. You could find a subutex dr and do it on your own. But don’t take subs more than a 3/4 weeks or you’ll get addicted to that. If really in a jam take cold n flu medicine or benaydrl n get something to help you sleep at night. Good luck.
I’m getting ECT done and I know they will drug test me I have script for Soma but am afraid that the Soma will show up n get me kicked out of program.
Re: Wink (# 19)
I used to take a large amount of somas , and only once at probation 12 panel screen I did test positive for morphine. But I had them send it to lab and it came back all good. Somas were the only drug I took so I knew it was a false positive. But that only happened one time out of two years.
I had a cortisone shot to both of my heels. I then took a drug test. Dr. told me I tested positive to SOMA. This was a voluntary test, but I did not take SOMA or anything else that was not prescribed. Why would it show up like this.
Ne
It will not come up as morphine. It’s not even a narcotic. I am on Suboxone and soma they send my drug test to a lab every week soma Never ever comes up Niether does Ambien..
