I'm 35, 164lbs, normally healthy but about a year ago I developed an arrythmia that comes and goes but cause major panic attacks which make the arrythmia worse. Doc started me out on a beta blocker but that didn't work. Currently taking cardizem but that's not working. The arrythmia usually happens when I lay flat on my back or if I'm bending down on all fours like when I look for my shoes under the bed. Doc just prescribed flecainide and I've read all I can about it and I'm so scared. I have 4 grandchildren to live for and I'm not ready to go yet. Has anybody ever taken flecainide and cardizem together? Doc says ablation is the next step if this doesn't work. I was supposed to start it 2 weeks ago but I'm too afraid. Please help me. ## Hello, Nicki! ...
My cardiologist has suggested this drug for my persistent a-fib. I am hoping to discuss its effects with someone already on this medication. ## Much depends on the background of your a. fib, but if you do not have any outstanding other cardiac issues (as I do not), you probably do well on this. I have had no major side effects (unlike every other rate/rhythm drug that I took) so far. I have been on it nearly two years. I do think I am a bit more fatigued than ought to be, but much better than with the a.fib. I also notice a little bit trouble staying asleep at times. Unfortunately the drug seems not to be controlling all the aberrant a. fib, because I must occasionally supplement with metoprolol this past year. I have been told that the drug eventually fails for most folks over time as ...

If I miss one scheduled dose, which is every 12hours, by 3 or 4 hours, take a dose.. Then slowly get back to schedule. Is that ok, or should I skip it altogether? ## Hello, John! How are you? Generally, you should take the missed dose, as soon as you remember and only skip it, if it's close to the time for your next dose. Otherwise, you take it and then get yourself back on schedule, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. However, with such a medication, it would be best to take all doses on time. Do you have a smart phone? If so, there are many free reminder apps that you can download that will remind you when it's time to take your medication. I use one on my iPhone all the time. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness...

My baby brother takes Sotalol and I was wondering if the chemicals of the pool have any effect on him? What other activities can he do? ## Hello, Jarlyn! How are you and your brother? He should be able to participate in his usual activities, unless his doctor has told him not to do so. But, the medication could make him more susceptible to the effects of the sun, so he may overheat or burn much faster than usual, thus plenty of liquids and a good sun block are needed. What are my risks in stopping the flecainide cold-turkey? This dr tells me it's not used for bigemini, which can disappear on it's own. I'm concerned about the feeling of my heart dropping in my chest, and butterflies fluttering in chest at other times, plus panic attacks returning. All of the above stopped once I was put on flecainide. ## Hello, Norma! How are you? I had 2 cataract surgeries last year. The second one the first part of Nov. 2014, both times the Prednisone left me weak. But I recovered quickly. The middle of Nov. I had my heart shocked to restore proper rytrhym. After that I started taking flecanide. 3 months later. I kept getting physically weaker & finally figured out it was the Flecanide causing this. I quit taking it & felt better immediatly. I am not recuperating. light excercise exhausts me. So I'm not getting stronger. Don"t know what to do. ## Hello, Ron! How are you feeling? Can Rythmol be transfered through seman and cause any side effects? ## Hello, Laura! How are you? No, you'll not be exposed to the mediations that a man is taking in such a manner. Any trace amounts that might carry through to his semen would be far too small to have an effect on anyone else. The FDA classifies this an anti-arrhythmic that's used to treat illnesses associated with rapid heart beat and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, metallic taste and GI upset. If you had a bad reaction to sperm, you may have a sperm allergy or be allergic to a protein produced by the specific man in question. What types of symptoms did you experience?
I take Sotalol 120mg twice a day. Can I go off it or do I have to take it indefinitely. I'm taking it for PVC's and I now have a regular heart rate for the past year. ## Hi Elaine, From what I can gather, Sotalol is a beta blocker used for treating irregular heartbeats. There are however, a variety of different medications (OTC/Herbal/Rx) that are indicated for such purposes, so in my personal opinion, limiting yourself to just one type of treatment "should" not have to be a permanent/indefinite thing. On the other hand, it is up to you and your doctor to decide the duration of treatment as well as considerations for other treatment modalities. With that said, I think it would be wise to weigh out the pros/cons of taking Sotalol in order to better determine whether conti...
what drug alterative for sotalol with advair for copd ## @rick, If you're looking for alternative COPD treatment options, some medications to consider speaking with your doctor for about may include, but are not limited to the following: -Bronchodilators (short/long-acting) *Albuterol *Levalbuterol *Ipratropium *Tiotropium *Arformoterol -Corticosteroids *Fluticasone *Prednisolone *Budesonide -Methylxanthines This is just to name a few, and it may be that your doctor could end up recommending something entirely different... however if you research each and every option out there, at least you can get a better idea of what to anticipate ahead of time. Does any one else out there have suggestions from personal experience?
Are there any user reviews of people using this medicine? ## Hi ray, It looks as though you're the first person to post about Mexiletine on this site. And even after skimming through other discussion threads, most reviews I've seen appear to be scattered throughout the internet. I will say however, that of the reviews I did see (on a scale of 1-10, ten being that it worked well), the results varied from a 3 to 10, depending on who you ask. But this is to be expected with any medication, since most drugs tend to affect each person differently anyways. I'm sure if you update your experience periodically, more people will continue to respond with their feedback in this thread and hopefully snowball into effect from this point on. How long have you taken Mexiletine for? Or are y...
