How To Get Off Suboxone (Page 9) (Top voted first)

Updated

Im Marina Im 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiul little boys. From the years 2006-2007 i was heavily addicted to Oxy 80 and eventually started doing herion. I got help in sep.2007 at a methadone clinic, it worked for as long as i was on the methadone i had NO relapse's. In June 2009 i was completly off of the methadone that first day that i was on 0Mgs I went through extreme withdrawls i went through things that i would never wish upon my worst enemy! i stayed that way for a day and a half and decided to go to a suboxone doctor. He put me on 32 mgs a day which i thought was pretty high of a dose but he explained to me that methadone withdrawls was worst then any other withdrawls. so i trusted him. Now when i go to see him every month i pretty much beg for him to start the weining process and start lowering me and he pretty much refuses. After months of being on 32mgs a day he finally started tapering me down slowly, i never really thought any thing of it till now but i realized he's keeping me on the suboxne for as long as posible so that he can get my $200.00 a month. all he is, is a legal drug dealer bc now im highly addicted to the suboxone. I recently had to go a few days with out my suboxone bc i didnt have the money to see him and i went through hell. i thought methadone withdrawl was bad OMG there is no comparison. i wanted to either use which i havent done in years or rip my face off lol its funny now but it definatley wasnt funny a few days ago while i was feeling that way! So i spoke to a good friend whos going through the same thing and he told me that they just came out with a new pill to get you off suboxone. I just want to know if that's true. I tryed googleing it but i cant find any thing. If you have heard of this new pill please respond or if you even have a good way to get off soboxone as painless and posible... thanx

NoGroovin, I went to the dr. he gave me the Clonidine. What can I expect? I'm so nauseus, spelled wrong, How will this help me? Thanks for taking your time helping me.

Cookie,

Clonidine will calm your central nervous system. It will help with the restless legs, the anxiety, and the pain. Now, I never felt nauseous but I did have that awful diarrhea forever (I know, TMI, sorry. Lol) so I took the clonidine, Imodium and lots & lots of HOT baths. That and forcing yourself to exercise (even if it's just walking the dogs) will pull you out of this. I can ask around about the nausea if you want. By far the clonidine was the number one thing for me. Good luck. Keep us updated.

Licheant there are treatment providers in NJ who have great subozone programs if you want to stay on it. I'm not familiar with NY but Jersey has some very topical, up-to-date subozone programs.

NoGroovin, thanks so much for all your help. I wish I had you here with me. I'm a very anxious person, very nervous, maybe that's why my stomach is acting up. I just wish it was over. Well, I'll keep you updated, when I can. I can't lay in bed all day because of the back pain, which is how all this started. I have a workers comp hearing on June 13 that I have to attend, I'm hoping I'm feeling somewhat better then, it's a really important hearing. Thank you again, you help me so much.

Hey there NOGroovin, I am finally feeling a some better. It's been a little rough, certainly at night. My legs, omg, I had some lidocaine cream my PM dr, gave me some time ago and I just rubbed it my legs till they were numb, lol. I'm not eating so much, bathroom problems but all in all I think I'll live. Thanks so much for posting. It means alot. I have to care for my 95 year old mother everyday, and I have to be able to get going although hard at times. I have noone else in my life. It's hard some days to get in that shower and get dressed but I do it. Thanks again, I'm sorry I didn't post earlier but wasn't feeling good. Hope you are well.

so whats the easiest way to get off suboxone without wanting to die? i dont want to be in bed for months..i cant handle that..i've been through that before and i wanted to die. I've been on suboxone for years...i'm down to 1mg, sometimes .5mg...but i can feel when i need to take it..bad..ive never been so terrified in my life..if you go inpatient somewhere will they help you more than you can help yourself? will they give you anything to help with the withdrawls? can i do this at home and survive?

You've got to taper lower. It's easier to cut the 2mg strips into smaller pieces than the bigger strips. 1 mg is still a pretty high amount to jump from- its awesome that you tapered that low so far though, good job. Start to drop it by about 10% every 10-12 days (or when your body adjusts). When you get down really low it helps to dose twice per day (not double the dose- half the dose two times). If you do it this way the only withdrawal you feel will be while tapering. The actual jump will be a breeze

NG you're definitely right about clonidone which is also used to help in methadone detox. What I'm stuck on is, why would Marina come off methadone in the first place? She says she was doing fine, things were working. There's no reason a person can't live a decent life as a MMT client We have a Subs program at my treatment provider and unfortunately, the results are dim. I say, if methadone works for you, work with it. It'll always have a biased, negative rap from uneducated folks, so just move on into life even if addicted to methadone. I'm 62 now, over 40 years since I started with dolophine for a heroin habit, and have not ONE SINGLE RELAPSE in all these years. When something works, what dummy would unplug themselves from that treatment modality? Perhaps Marina just wanted to be chemical free. Now she's learning a very hard lesson. Our endorphin balance is so delicately fixed by nature that, as scientific pharma-research has found, any addition or subtraction will affect a person for life. BTW nice of you to share your knowledge.

Dips, you're right about that. "Slow and steady gets you ready, sticking it through returns you to YOU". Sometimes folks rush in, eager to be chemical free, then think they've failed when they relapse. You're right, it's not a matter of counting days or months, or even hours. Now is the moment, and if you get through it, chances are you'll get through the next one. So, good point.

day 3 of no subs..the first and seconds nights werent too bad..my doc is actually in the hospital so all i have is ativan to sleep which doesnt do much. i think one of the most important things for everyone to try to do is to find a good mood stabilizer..part of whats in the suboxone is a stabilizer..tried risperidal but that made me feel like my heart was gonna explode, and then my doc went into the hospital till monday. I wish i had something to help me sleep better..i feel like i wanna rip my skin off, and bad headaches. The nurse said i should be feeling much better by monday..i'm thinking its about a week for most people.. anything past that is just unstabilized mood..

i really need to try to go for a walk or something..but i cant seem to get myself out of bed :(

If I do what you said which I am doing now - I take 4 mg per day (I've been on subs for almost 6 years now and started with 3 like most, but stayed on 3 pills per day for way too long); I take 2 mg in the am of subutex since it is easier to get off of than regular strips or subs, and 2 mg in the afternoon. I am usually sick by late evening and I yawn a lot! I take vitamins, minerals and so forth. However what you said is sorta clicking with me for some odd reason about lowering 10 % every 10 days and allowing yourself to feel sick in between each dose and stretch it out as much as you can even if you cant fall asleep.

So im on day 6..not withdrawing nearly as bad but I still can't sleep no matter what I take to try to knock me out.. and I try not to take much of anything because I don't want to be too groggy in the morning. what bothers me the most is the lack of energy..my brain wants to do so many things but my body won't let me :( taking lots of vitamins.. when does the energy start to come back?

Here is a trick: Exercise as much as you can. I know you have other things that you want to do physically too but this really works and here is why:

The trick is forcing your body to release endorphins (Runners High/Natural High). The only way to release endorphins is to exercise really hard for at least 30 mins or 45 if you can. Whether I take subs or not- I feel the natural endorphins being released when I exercise and push myself very hard :). So, without taking subs, you will still feel the endorphins when they are released. You have to keep at it every single day. It is going to be very hard the first few days, but it may also make you tired this evening. Also, if you aren't taking a megadose of "Nature's Bounty" Vitamin B Complex sublingual cherry dropper as an extra source of ONLY Vitamin b's along with L-Tyrosine bought at GNC, then get to it! Every morning (dont ever ever take at night!) before eating, take both together and take as many L Tyrosine pills u can handle up to 4 at the very most (or 2,000 mgs). Then exercise immediately thereafter, take a hot bath or shower and then get to your daily activities that you say your brain wants to do but your body cannot. Don't focus on "how you feel" and you honestly won't feel it as much. Pretend you are a little sick with a cold or flu. Don't go back on those evil pills! You can do it!

I was on subs for 6 years too...ouch :/ too long...

so it seems to be true that it takes about 30 days..? its been just over two weeks for me, and although i feel much better, i still get restless at night, upset stomach in the morning, and most of all, just completely drained and weak. trying to be patient! i suffer bad from depression and anxiety so my new doc started me on antidepressants..hopefully that'll help, though that'll take time too..just want it to end! It feels like it will never go away...

You should be so proud of yourself. You made it, you are off this awful pill. I know depression comes with it but it sounds like you have a good dr. Can u tell me how he told you to go about it. I'm down to small pieces a day, but I can't make that jump. I want off, I hate it. But be proud of yourself, depression will go away and you will get your energy back. I have such a long road to go. But i'm hoping to be like you one day.
