How To Get Off Suboxone (Page 6) (Top voted first)
UpdatedIm Marina Im 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiul little boys. From the years 2006-2007 i was heavily addicted to Oxy 80 and eventually started doing herion. I got help in sep.2007 at a methadone clinic, it worked for as long as i was on the methadone i had NO relapse's. In June 2009 i was completly off of the methadone that first day that i was on 0Mgs I went through extreme withdrawls i went through things that i would never wish upon my worst enemy! i stayed that way for a day and a half and decided to go to a suboxone doctor. He put me on 32 mgs a day which i thought was pretty high of a dose but he explained to me that methadone withdrawls was worst then any other withdrawls. so i trusted him. Now when i go to see him every month i pretty much beg for him to start the weining process and start lowering me and he pretty much refuses. After months of being on 32mgs a day he finally started tapering me down slowly, i never really thought any thing of it till now but i realized he's keeping me on the suboxne for as long as posible so that he can get my $200.00 a month. all he is, is a legal drug dealer bc now im highly addicted to the suboxone. I recently had to go a few days with out my suboxone bc i didnt have the money to see him and i went through hell. i thought methadone withdrawl was bad OMG there is no comparison. i wanted to either use which i havent done in years or rip my face off lol its funny now but it definatley wasnt funny a few days ago while i was feeling that way! So i spoke to a good friend whos going through the same thing and he told me that they just came out with a new pill to get you off suboxone. I just want to know if that's true. I tryed googleing it but i cant find any thing. If you have heard of this new pill please respond or if you even have a good way to get off soboxone as painless and posible... thanx
Everyone i an 100% true addict i would take any and everything i could but not illegal drugs my drug of choice was norco 10-325 anywhere from 30 plus 1000mg a day it was to the point i did it to not be sick and be in withdrawal if i missed them for a few hours i would start feeling bad i would still be on them if it was not fir suboxone it was to the point that my heart had stopped twice so i truly believe in suboxone my doctor is nothing like the ones ive read about on here he truly cares and monitor's my recovery very close he has even made me take addiction classes so ive learned a extremely amount about this and im really blessed to have learned what i know first i want to say if you think yoyr doctor is keeping you on these its your responsibility to talk to him and if he doesn't help then i would suggest try weaning yourself down on your own its not a crime to try and get off these in earlier post i have posted a great plan for getting off of them and it works i learned of this on here from others that have successfully done it and ive done it myself it is my fault i relapsed i was not as educated as i am now and i failed im getting ready to try again im not saying i will stay off due to the fact im human but at least i know its possible to get off them. If anyone needs i will repost the way off i will tell you its not easy i still had withdrawal symptoms but they were very mild try it the only thing that can happen is you fail so what its better to try and fail than keep on being in this situation i pray for everyone on here that you succeed and if there is anything i can answer just ask if i dont know ill ask when i go to class and find out its our own responsibility to take care of ourselves don't just trust what a dr says ask questions do research get a second opinion suboxone saved me now its time for me to finish by getting off them and being 100% clean and staying that way im much better than i was its a slow process now its time to wean off the suboxone thanks and God bless
Don't worry yourself forever though Kris. It really is hard I thought I was going to be stuck on them forever, your not alone. Some people may tell you its easy to get off that s***. But no for me it was horrible. I couldn't go a day without it or I couldn't get up id be yawning and sneezing and just felt like I was physically ill. But if you can really take your time and taper down as much as possible. Hang in there because it does get better. but it does take time sadly.
Slate, thanks for all the information. It's just so hard and I feel like I'll never get off. I'm going to try what you said cutting them in smaller pieces and see how I tolerate it. I hate that sneezing too and I always get the sick stomach. I am very nervous, have ocd and everything makes me a wreck. I hate that this stuff has so much control over me. I like to be in control and I'm not. Well, I'll try what you said and I'll keep you posted. Again, thank you so much for taking your time to write back to me.
I haven't found the proper information anywhere online so here it is. Subutex/suboxone has a binding affinity of 75% at 2mg. Anymore medication than this amount does not have much value. Tapering to 2mg/day is easy, but you should taper slowly at your own pace. Getting from 2mg to Zero is the tricky part and here's how to do it.
Take your dosage every 24 hours as follows (each number is one 24-hour period and numbers are in milligrams):
2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25, 0.5, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0, 0, 0.25, 0, 0, 0, 0.25, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0.25, ZERO
This method is medically proven to work and I did it with no problem (only minor w/d symtoms and slight insomnia). Print out a calendar and mark each day with your correct dosage. This stream of numbers is difficult to look at (but you can see the pattern if you pay attention and write it on your own taper-calendar). You may take some of your dosage in the morning and some early afternoon. For instance, if you're on a 1.5mg day, take 1mg when you wake and 0.5mg mid-afternoon. Do not take this medication in the evening! Use it during your waking hours. If you work nights, take it in the evening and just after midnight. You will have mild insomnia, but will also have a clear head. Make use of your time if you cannot sleep. Exercise and diet make it even easier. This is the best way to taper off subutex/suboxone and live a normal life. I did it after years of opiate abuse and 1 year of subutex/suboxone usage. I cannot find this proper taper information anywhere. Hopefully this info finds you as it's the straight truth. Suboxone now comes in sublingual films which can but cut into correct dosage amounts. You cannot use 2mg pills to accurately taper down to zero. Get 2mg sublingual films from your doctor and explain this taper method if he hasn't already told you about it. I'm speaking from experience and I assure this will work. The reason for the new sublingual films is for proper tapering to ZERO. It takes time, but it's quite easy if done correctly. If you try to taper too fast, you will fool yourself. These drugs have long half-lives and you need to taper gradually to avoid discomfort. This advice will hopefully help you.
Also, one issue I find with addicts is they think they control their taper method and get overzealous. You must follow this correctly and not try and "go for it" on your own terms. Take your time and do it right! You will continue to get distance from the illegal world you were in and get your life straight. Use this medication to your advantage to get your life back. Also, you may be on higher doses when you switch over, but tapering to 2mg/day is easy due to binding affinity. If you're new to subs, take 4~8mg / day for a couple weeks before going to 2mg. This could be necessary and depends on how much illegal stuff you were using before going to subutex/suboxone treatment.
Best Wishes!!! -E
Tina taper down by 20% every 10 days and then jump off at .05. You should be fine. Get potassium, multivitamin, GABA calm and B12. Go to a health store to buy the supplements. Start taking them now so they can build up in your system. Also depending on what dose film or pill you have you might need a razor blade and tweezers when you have to start cutting your dose down lower and lower. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. Don't let other peoples experiences scare you, lots of people get off subs but you have to taper.
Riamont, first off all congrats on your child and the desire to get clean. Now the first thing is please go to your Dr and be honest. Everyone makes mistakes. Now start on the lowest dose that you and your Dr believe will keep you comfortable. Under your Dr's approval start your taper immediately. I tapered down every 10-14 days. The amount might only be 10% each time but the important thing is to continually reduce your dosage. I was able to jump off at about.05. twice daily. It's hard to say for sure because the slivers were so tiny not real sure. Most important ask God for strength. Good luck, you can do this!
Yes, people taper down slow. 6mg is not a big difference from 8mg. But then it gets tricky. I cut my 8 mg strip in to 4 pieces. I only take 3- 2mg pieces daily and it works fine. Cut the 1/4 strips in half and go down 1/8 at a time. Slow, 3 weeks before going down minimum. When your comfortable on 1/4 strip, then get on 1/8. From 1/8 it won't be too bad getting off for good. Always have extra on hand. Because things get screwed up. Doctors mess up, Coverage ends. You know. Don't take opiates to ease the feelings, it'll set you back.
Steve I wouldn't recommend getting off at 1 mg that is still too high of a dose to stop at.you really should go down to at least .50 (1/2 mg), if you can go down further that would be even better if you could go down to .25 (1/4 mg)
Hope things work out for you!

Lala08, I did have a drs. help, but I think it's totally up to you. He gave me Clonidine, I am on permanent disablity from worker's comp. for an injury at work. I was taking quite a bit of pain killers, and decided one day, that was enough, so I went on the subs, not knowing what I know now. The biggest thing is the tapering. I never thought that I would ever get off them, but I hated that awful taste, and they weren't really doing anything for me so I decided to try. I have a wonderful family that sticks by me and helps me. Thank you for your concern, and I'm so happy to be rid of them.
I'm Michael been on 16 milligrams for a year year and a half when I had 30 left a taper down then. me and my wife I went from thirds for 2 weeks 2 quarters to 1/8 after a month of tappering down we did a little unorthodox rather genius plan to beat the 2 weeks hell of detox i thought cool baby we made it and we did threw that part but still more to come because now we need sleep what's that where is it all i had to do is close my eyes and out like a light praying to god more then a hour please i can't sleep I don't want to be awake as i tell my wife pit the a.c. on 60 it feels like were two pieces of wood on fire under the sheet my mind raceing how how did I do this to me but I know I've always been a smart ass and I would always tell people don't ask questions you already know the answer to and I find myself asking myself the question I already know the answer too so 3 day's no sleep no $ we can't work Saturday 330 a.m. God's talking to me watching church. T.v. I'm going to church tommrow we did in the sermon was on adversity how would you deal with it good or bad it was pointing right at me I thank God that I wasn't going through it alone my wife were each others back bones we just kept telling each other it's going to get better it's getting better and it has been getting better and I had been looking up herbs and natural remedies and we went to the vitamin store and got some vitamins to help with anxiety and mood swings. Kratom for the body pain and we tried it and it's been working great my brain is focused her brain is focused I went out yesterday and found me a job I'm starting a job Monday I never thought I'd be able to do it so soon I'm looking for things to do around the house I feel great thank God for all his blessingsshe feels great we are blessed and there is light at the end of the tunnel there is hope it does get better we've been supporting each other and we could have made it without each other we don't want no drugs its it's truly a blessing so beautiful day sleep life is good you can be there to you will be there too just know in your heart that it's going to happenjust don't forget the main thing thank God for your blessings every day and know that he's with you and it's been 21 days sitting outside on the porch drinking a cup of herbal tea about to cut the grass 9:30 in the morning good luck everybody
Hello there. Looks as if your going through a rough time!!! Look I actually have the answer to your problem!!! As I myself just went through 9yrs. of Subutex Tx. & a prior 8yrs. of Methadone Tx. Luckily my colleagues & friend's are Psychiatrists & other various Dr.s MD.s, Internal Medicine etc. I myself am almost a Dr.Ok back to you're situation. When I came off buprenorphine, Subutex. It took me 6 months to feel about 75% normal!!! It is by far alot worse than Methadone!!! With Methadone it is the most intense WITHDRAWALS YOU WILL EVER GO THROUGH!!! The Buprenorphine is a slow death. Its 6 months off slow torture!!! I've seen my friend blow her face off bc of the Intense depression it causes!!! I came off Methadone 4×s cold turkey and let me tell you. That was awful!!! Methadone is 30 days of the most intense pain and suffering one can imagine and bear but after 30 days its over!!! It breaks just like a Scarlett Fever and then your fine. Here's the good news!!! Buprenorphine A.K.A. Subutex, Suboxone binds to the mu and Kappà receptors. The Mu receptor is actually the morphine receptor & the Mu is an agonist. Buprenorphine Binds to it 1st. and kicks in fast within an hr. Then goes to the kappa where it becomes an antagonist. Then begins to fade. When coming off drink 8-12oz.s Of grapefruit juice. This will increase the effect of the Buprenorphine and will help one who's tappering off Tremendously!!! It's the equivalent to drinking Alcohol with opiates. I've never tapered off!!! Always cold turkey!!! Now here's a huge help!!! Take 200mgs of TEGRETOL 1-3 times daily P.R.N. & Catapress 1mg. as needed. Honestly all you need is the TEGRETOL!!!! You'll be fine. Hopefully this will help you. AS IM POSITIVE IT WORKS!!! Call if you need any further advice. I've plenty more but must go for now. Work awaits.I'm pulling for you Leslie!!!
I was on Subs for about a year. Finally I couldn't afford it anymore, so a friend of mine told me how she tapered down to1/8 of a strip for a month and then jumped off. So I gave it a try and it worked for me also. Now I'm not saying it was easy, it was anything but easy, but if you want off as bad as I did you will do this. It's been about 5 months since I've been off and I'm feeling well. I do have to go to a Pain Management Doctor for injuries I received at my job. But they do not give me anything really strong, I still have some pain, but truthfully, I'd rather suffer some pain than be on Subs. I did have restless legs, no sleep and all the other things people talk about. But never again will I ever take Suboxene again. There is hope for everyone. Just make up your mind and stay focused, it will all end. All my best to you who are trying to quit. I hope you make it. It's much better on the other side.
Hi i would really like to know the secret as it's bin 16 days and I still can't get comfortable and feel like I've bin beat up
I heard there was a pill out, for getting off of suboxone? I was addicted to vicodin after i had my son, i have never been an addict until 3 years ago. I got addicted to pain pills, my back hurt and also depression. they put me on suboxone and I hate it! i have been on them for 2 years! i can't get off of them, they changed me and I don't think they should have given me them! i only was addicted for 7 mos. they put me on this and it's impossible to get off! i heard there was a pill to help get off for good? please, i HATE BEING ON SUBOXONE, I REALLY NEED HELP GETTING OFF!
Just to clarify with everyone asking about the magic pill that helps getting off Suboxone, well first of all it doesn't exist. The way to get off suboxone is to get through a medical detox and have your dose of suboxone and naloxone together e.g: 8mg/2mg Naloxone. I suffer from chronic pain and I am addicted to Oxycodone, I take 300mg a day and I am so tired of this evil drug. I just can't get off of it and even taper down, the w/d are horrid.
So I was able to find a doctor that specialises in medical detox and I am starting in 2 days. Basically, I have to be in w/d for 24 hours before my first dose of suboxone/naloxone. The detox will last 15 days total and when I am done I will be completely off the oxycodone and the suboxone. He will gradually decrease my dose of suboxone everyday until the end of my detox.
I have talked to numerous people who went through the same program and other than the first 24 hours of enhanced withdrawals before the first dose of suboxone, they told me it's night and day. You actually feel normal, something I haven't felt in 4 years, I am really looking forward to it. Apparently, the second of your detox, you feel normal, you feel yourself. The first day is always a little tricky, because the doctor has to find the perfect dose of suboxone compared to the amount of oxycodone you take, once that is established, everything is back to normal. I can't wait. I will write in a week and let you guys know how I am doing.
I am so ready for this, I am so ready to get my life back. No one should have to suffer of addiction and there is help, but it's not normal to be on suboxone for so long, unless you suffer from chronic pain and it's part of a suboxone maintenance program.
Talk to the right people and get your life back on track, it's possible, there are good resources out there, one advice, don't try to do it on your own and self taper, a normal person isn't trained to do such a thing, because suboxone is a partial agonist, it's a different potent narcotic and you can't screw around with that...
Below is a good reference document, take some time to read it. Hope I helped a little. Good luck everyone...

Send me an email
Maybe I can help...
@craig.
If you start a suboxone maintenance program you don't have to be off of work. I am not sure how you got that info.
I did the suboxone detox for 15 days and I didn't miss 1 day of work, I was in withdrawals the day prior to starting my treatment and that was a Sunday, which was my day off.
I can help you, but you have to want to help yourself Craig. It's not because that you work in the medical field that it means you don't have time to care for yourself and make you like better. What's more important, work or your life? If you can't answer that, than you aren't ready for detox. Everyone can make time for something they really want, it just depends how ready you are????
You need help, I can tell you all about my treatment and recovery. Let me know..
