How To Get Off Suboxone (Page 39) (Top voted first)
UpdatedIm Marina Im 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiul little boys. From the years 2006-2007 i was heavily addicted to Oxy 80 and eventually started doing herion. I got help in sep.2007 at a methadone clinic, it worked for as long as i was on the methadone i had NO relapse's. In June 2009 i was completly off of the methadone that first day that i was on 0Mgs I went through extreme withdrawls i went through things that i would never wish upon my worst enemy! i stayed that way for a day and a half and decided to go to a suboxone doctor. He put me on 32 mgs a day which i thought was pretty high of a dose but he explained to me that methadone withdrawls was worst then any other withdrawls. so i trusted him. Now when i go to see him every month i pretty much beg for him to start the weining process and start lowering me and he pretty much refuses. After months of being on 32mgs a day he finally started tapering me down slowly, i never really thought any thing of it till now but i realized he's keeping me on the suboxne for as long as posible so that he can get my $200.00 a month. all he is, is a legal drug dealer bc now im highly addicted to the suboxone. I recently had to go a few days with out my suboxone bc i didnt have the money to see him and i went through hell. i thought methadone withdrawl was bad OMG there is no comparison. i wanted to either use which i havent done in years or rip my face off lol its funny now but it definatley wasnt funny a few days ago while i was feeling that way! So i spoke to a good friend whos going through the same thing and he told me that they just came out with a new pill to get you off suboxone. I just want to know if that's true. I tryed googleing it but i cant find any thing. If you have heard of this new pill please respond or if you even have a good way to get off soboxone as painless and posible... thanx
Suboxone is so strong that if you OD on it, you can't be brought back with a shot. It's no wonder people are addicted; it was never meant to be a cure, just a way for your money to go to companies instead of dealers. The upside is if you don't abuse them and are prescribed the right amount, you won't overdose from a bag of bomb dope you weren't expecting, or get fake pills made in mexico...
I would NOT advise anyone to taper using Tramadol (Ultram) because at the doses you'd need, you are risking a deadly seizure. It makes the twitchy legs etc. bad and is worse than being stuck on subs.
The only 2 ways I can think of are: 1) to find someone who will prescribe your poison again and taper you (let's use oxycodone as an example), then step down to hydrocodone, and so on. Most doctors would not take the risk. You would also need someone to lock up your meds in a legit safe, hand you doses, make sure you don't cheek a pill, and it would be rather embarrasing.
2) Plain old taper then cold turkey, which for subs would be impossible without professional help, lots of sedatives and adrenaline blockers, and a truckload of Imodium and Robitussin. Sounds like instant relapse with a lower tolerance to other opiates, leading to a lethal OD.
2) Ibogaine. This is a plant that will make you hallucinate and probably vomit, and has a small risk of death. However, many hardcore addicts have gone through it and the NEXT DAY had no dependance. It basically reboots your brain receptors. It is the only "magic bullet" found so far. You many have to leave the country for a clinic. Make sure you find a legit clinic that has medical equipment (heart monitors and defibrillators; you might be somewhere in Bumf***, Peru, unless there are ones in your country) and medications in an emergency situation; I would not try this at home without experienced people unless you really would rather chance death over your addiction.
With either of these you will be dopesick or "poisoned" and need time without work. You need a support network. You need to ask yourself whether being on this pill forever is worth keeping your job; you can always make it a medical emergency. You have to WANT to never touch dope again, no matter how it makes you feel, and be dedicated to your physical and mental health over your sense of security. See this wiki to understand what I mean. There is no "good time" to quit a substance; I should know I was addicted to amphetamines for 7 years and quit on my own.

I wish you all the luck in the world and your struggles have always been in my thoughts. I've lost too many friends to repeated rehab, jail, and trying to find the next fix consuming their whole life. Break the cycle or you will never get your self-esteem back.
Hey I know what your going through! I have been on suboxone for that last 8 years and it's driving me crazy!! I want so badly to have the strength to get off of this crap!! My problem is that I'm prescribed 2 8mg a day, but I take one or two extra and run out early! And when I see my dr he gets frustrated and puts me on a week at a time until I don't take extra, but even still I take extra!! Why do I do this to myself! I truly want to stop but my temptation always gets the best of me! I'm married with 3 kids and they know when I run out because I go through withdrawals and I don't want to put them through that anymore!! They don't deserve it! I have depression also and take 60mg of cymbalta a day! I have gained too much weight and have low confidence and self esteem:-( I need the best advice u can give me guys! I can handle it:-(
I can't remember what its called either I will ask my Dr on Thurs but there is something you can take to help with WD from suboxone but you have to be off suboxone for week before you can take that's the only problem I was only taking vicodin too and I took 2 pills every 4 hrs so I was even going by prescribed amount but got pregnant and now I'm stuck on this crap too I will ask her what it is
Thanks for the reply and encouragement Jolter. I've been on Suboxone for 4 or 5 years. This medicine has caused me to have lost a lot of money. For the entire time on subs I've always taken 8mg. The last week I started to rip'em in half then I just jumped. My way to stay clean is either I go slip and go back on or get on with life and take care if my kids. My story is almost like everyone else's. I had 4 major hemorrhoid surgeries back to back. I was prescribed percs & Vicodin. Once I started to overcome the pain of the surgery, I stopped the meds and oh boy!!!! I felt crazy. So I didn't understand why I was sweating and having what I found out to be withdrawl. I had never takin pain pills before. I went to my doctor and told him what I was going thru and he said don't sweat it just enjoy it and gave me a script if 250 percs. I came home and and told my husband and he was like your body is hooked on those pills. Long story short, over a 1 year period I was taking 60 pills a day!!!!! I was taking them to feel normal. One day I was in the kitchen and it was my 30th bday and I was taking the pills. My daughter said to me, wow mommy u sure do take a lot of pills. I tried to hide that from them. I didn't think the kids knew. That same day, I checked into rehab. I was off the pills for 3 days. The 4th day I went to a clinical research place and they put a time released suboxone tube in my arm. It was in there for 6 months. When they took it out, I was so scared that I would go thru withdrawl so I went to a suboxone doctor and he's been prescribing them to me. Well now I'm broke!!! $180 per visit and $279 for the meds every month. I'm getting divorced and I have to start from the bottom. I've been wanting to stop the subs for so long. I feel like when I'm on them, I don't feel. I have no freakin emotions.
Today is day 7. I woke up at 3:30am with some crazy emotions. My husband was up doing paperwork. And for some reason, I had this overwhelming feeling to save my marriage. He was like where the hell did that come from. I had been able to keep my addiction of subs from him all this time. He was like oh now you feel like saving the marriage. I felt so damn lightheaded and weird. This withdrawl has my mind racing. My back muscles feel like I've been walked on. I woke up at 7:20 and I just feel emotional. I still must admit, the withdrawl hasn't made me want to give up. I am going to overcome this and get my business back up and running! I have to hold onto to that because I feel like I've lost everything else.
Chaz, I get leg/foot cramps myself. I,ve started taking magnesium and Pottasium supplements. After the third day or so I noticed some improvement. Bananas are a great source of potassium. Water, water, water. Especially if your outside sweating. It will help with the cramps.
Robyn, If you read this I was wondering what supplements were you led too?
Stac, I just read your message and it sounds like you are on 1/16 because a strip for me lasts 16 days. If you are down that far you may want to cut the piece that you take now in half before jumping off. I have stopped before and now trying again, the last time I stopped at a half a mg which is 1/16 but this time I am going to .25 so it won't be so hard. I have been on this for about 8 years and I am really gonna stop for good this time. Last time I stopped I took tramadol to get me through, tramadol is nothing but it does take the edge off and keeps you from getting the hot sweats and helps with the edgy feeling so you can sleep. Honestly the last time I stopped I got to day 8 before I had 1 symptom because I took the tramadol.
I also took an over the counter sleep aid which helped too...but I don't sleep even on the suboxone so I always need help with that.
I hope this helps you!
Cheri
suboxone! I can help you with that one. First of all, I have been to 3 different suboxone doctors over 3 years. All of them tell me that 24mg (3 pills) is the largest dose anyone can take because it wont work any better once you go up from 24 mg!!!! So 24 and 32 and 50 and 100 would give you the same result. And yes, at that high dose you want to start weaning(titrating off) after 2 weeks maximum. I had a detox nurse tell me that originally suboxone and subutex(its generic cousin) was made for a 12 week program. 16 weeks is max only in very "unusual cases." So normal detox would look something like week 1-24mg and keep titrating down 2mg at a time till you get to 16 and then you can decide if you want to titrate down 1 or 2 mg a week. I even know people who are so hooked on suboxone that when they get below 8 mg, they can only titrate down 1 mg at a time. AND SOME PEOPLE ONCE THEY ARE AT 4 MG CAN ONLY TAKE GOING DOWN 1/2 MG PER WEEK.
Anything longer than that is a scam doctor or someone who slept thru suboxone cert. class! I would recommend going to a rehab if you cant get below 8mg on your own. Me? My doc started me on 16mg after 3 yrs of opiate use and I was able to get down to 8mg in 2 weeks as it was way too hi a dstarting dose for me. But I have been stuck at 8mg and get so depressed I cant take it. Even at 6mg I see a big difference. If I cant get below 6 in another week, its rehab time. Often suboxone is used to get you ready for rehab so you dont suffer as much. I studied this to dfeath for 3 yrs...so I know. And yeah.most suboxone docs cant be trusted. They either want you to get off too fast or too slow. Im going for accupuncture with herbs treatment and i see its making a difference AND WILL help me get off the subs much easier. But dont be afraid to go right into a rehab if you go 3 weeks and cant go any lower on your dose. As long as you can keep going lower each week, youll be fine. But you must after a few weeks be going down every 2 weeks, much better is every week. I hope this has helped. Also your brain is influenced by what you eat....yuh think? Take as much omega 3 products and fish as you can handle. Ever notice people who eat a lot of fish every day are happier than meat eaters. Problem is the mercury if you dont knbow where the fish comes from. Look up "niacin and suboxone therapy" niacin and depression therapy" . I also hear that if you have the 6 ggrand you can go to costa rica and they have a plant that will get you off everything in one week. And I emailed over 15 people who did it successfully. 1/2 never go back. 1/2 say it lasts only 3-6 months before cravings come back. Either way its a great deal. I wish I had the 6k. I am also going to start experimenting with brainwave technologies as to me weaning off any drug or alcohol is for the stone ages. Im trying Holosync meditation cd's and fisher-wallace electronic stimulation therapy. Let us know how you do. Remember, your doctor is just your "advisor." You have to look at all the different therapies out there and pick whats right for you. No one way is right for anyone. And if you DO go into a rehab, I am hearing from a detox nurse that 60 days is the minimum to really have better than a 50/50 chance top stay clean. My research backs her up. If you cant afford it see what the state can do for you...especially if you tell them you are suicidal.
To Mel I would like to know ur way of getting off cause I've been on subs for like over 2yrs and I tired of haven to wake up every morning depending on that sub

Please let me know what helped you?
I am interested.. please help! I'd like to know how to get off suboxone with little or no withdrawal
Re: Subsuckrpotential2bgr8 (# 28)
6 Mg daily (original on 16mg) I’ve taper to 6mg of the last few months, but now it’s really hard to drop my dosage.
Have been on for over 5 years.
Re: bowie (# 1)
Soboxone is designed to get you hooked and take your money. It's "sorcery" anything that can alter your mind and make you feel as horrible as Soboxone does tryin to come off it Is a type of mind control!!! 2 and 1/2 weeks off of those thangs and I still don't feel good. I won't take that crap ever again
omg i had the worst time coming off subxn and my doctor was just like yours and kept me on it for 3 years! One day on my own i decided to quit taking them because it was SO expensive and i hated going to the doctor every month. I called and said I was coming off and had the worst withdrawl of my life and he put me on Tramadol for a few weeks which helped alot. It still tooks months until I felt somewhat normal. If there is a pill for coming off subxn i am really interested, because i'm back on suboxone again and want to come off! I know, i really could have been fine and miserable without them but I was very depressed and went back on them because my doctor was all too eager in percribing them to me again.
@Jjr4643: Tramadol is a narcotic. Your body basically turns it into codeine. I'm not arguing with your advice - Tramadol can help a lot with WD's - as long as you don't become addicted to it. It also works as a type of SSRI or anti-depressant. Another helpful med for WD's is Clonidine. It helps with the RLS and general bad feelings.
when i tell my doctor i want to get off suboxone he looks at me like i have 3 heads and doesnt know what i need to get off. i just oved to florida but i have to travel to ny to see my doc cause thats were im from and the only place i can get suboxone with medicaid i either need to find a doc here in fl that can give me suboxone and accept medicaid for it or get offbut how? help.
just want to say that AZOR works for me when i am anctious, upset and also helps me to just cope with an uncunfortable situation. It can give yu memory loss for 2 to 5 min before you sleep as i have not rememberd a conversation before bedtime.
I'm very sorry to hear what you have went through. Opiates are a very slippery slope and it isn't easy to kick but it is possible. I know the feeling of wanting to come off of suboxone and no longer dependent. I still very very blessed to have come off of them.
The first step is that I highly recommend this book (End your addicion now -A Proven supplemental nutritional program.) Here is the Link.
amazon.com/End-Your-Addiction-Now-Nutritional/dp/0757003133
Addiction to Opiate(Along with most chemicals) creates a significant Hormonal defeciency in your brain. The author has a proven list of supplements that will help your brain create the Hormones that you are lacking. I Highly recommend Using his supplement program for at least a week or two before tapering. However, time is of the essence when coming off so If you don't have that time simply start the nutritional program right away as you are tapering. I'm repasting a previous post I made shortly after getting off of Suboxone. I hope this helps you. This isn't completly pain free way ( I don't believe there truly exists one). Less than 5 % of all people addicted to Opiates ever get off!! That was a scary statistic and I promised myself I would be one of the 5% that did. That was a big motivating factor. Also, Most Doctors will advise Opiate dependent patient that they "NEED" to stay on Suboxone because your body and/or nervous systems won't always allow you to get off. That is an "OUTRIGHT" lie. Our Nervous system, hormonal system, etc will go back to normal and fairly fast considering.
Krantom was very helpful for me to get off and even Lopermide(Immodium) 12 mg.
Post from Oct 2011
I didn't give my history because I promise it's very similar to all of you. After pain treatments (2years)from a car accident everything from pcets to fentanyl lollipops 3 a day I was on health death bed with doc prescribing more meds... I finally quite going and walked into a suboxone doc.... My life turned around almost immediately.. However 4 years I was still on sub and feeling the fatigue and the constant doc appts which normally included a urine test.I'm a young professional not abusing other thing so I hated having to go through it.Docs had no real way to get off subs and my last appt was when I asked this very seasoned pain doc ask if any of his patients have ever gotten off subs... He was silent and then said no.he had one patient try and is still on 2 Mgs a month..... I was inspired o find this method which does work. It's not painless however have not missed one day of work and am thrilled to be off subs for 25 days... I have my energy back and lifes color and joy is back... I can actually pickuip my 11 month old first thing in the morning dull of energy an excited for the day.Don't use this to Play with going on or off!! It will turn out bad! Our bodies were made to deal with our problems naturally.Let gods greatest creation do it's job.... By the way.. You need emotional and inspiring lliterature to read because they are the best endorphins..Read your respective religions literature... I found anything published by he Mormon church trully inspiring.don't try anything else their to taper. It will add opiatesuckurpotential
I was on subs so I had to taper to 1/8th of pill for 3 days.
What you'll need: Krantom, L-Tyrosine-Vitamins-Liquid Chloropyll, Vitamin D, Clonodine. (Very Important-read End your addiction-Nutritional supplement program.
I could only find Krantom in few Smoke shops-
problems. Only get Krantom-Package of Pills, Package of crushed leaves to chew, maybe the extract... I didn't find it was worth it.
Day 1 3-4 pills of Krantom(captain Krantom) If Withdrawls are not bad then only use what you need
Day 2 3-4 Pills Also chew crushed leaves as needed. only take enough for withdrawls symptoms to go away
Day 3 3-4 Pills, Also Chew Crused leaves if needed Maybe a little extract under the tongue if Withdrawls are bad
Day 4 Same as Day 3 however if withdrawls aren't bad start tapering Krantom down
Day 5 2-3 pills A little curshed leaves
Day 6 2 Pills, I had run out of leaves and extract so only pills
DAy 7 Start tapering of Krantom even more maybe 2 pills
Day 8 Try not to take any all day
-I've read that some people took 3-4 weeks with Krantom. I wanted off sooner and didn't want a Krantom Dependency. This can happen
-Every morning take 2-- mgs of Ltyrosine +other supplements), Take vitamins, eat breakfast, try to work out Follow Drink a lot of Water, A couple of bottles of water mix a lot of liquid Chloropyll, I used it a lot.
Through out day stay busy, drink water, eat a lot if you can--Liquid Chloropyll
-Nights for the first week can be hard so try to have clonodine for sleeping or other sleeping pills -- Lots of melatonin.
-People recommend Benzos but I think that can add to a different dependecy.
-Krantom has a 3-6 hour hal-life, Suboxone has up to a 72 hourhalf life. Some claim csubosone can stay in youfor months so the smaller you take before tapering the better.
Read more: Addiction, Recovery Forum - Getting Off Opiates w Krantom it's worth it.
Getting down to the lowest dose of suboxone does help. If you can get down to 1mg per day that would be good. It was hard for me.,. I got down to about 2 mg before I stopped.
Most withdrawls gone after 10-14 Days. Energy was still somewhat low but survivable. 30 Days felt soo much better. Lopermide 10-12 tablets for the first 5 days of withdrawl. Loud music in my ears during emotional/anxiety moments seem to help a lot...
I tried to post 2 separate times the method to get off but I don't think this site is allowing it to be viewed. Give me an email address and I'll send it to you. I feel very bad for those on suboxone that want to get off. I know how impossible it seems but it is very possible.
No, I have not heard of any such pill. It would not make any sense, either, since the whole point of Suboxone is to help beat drug addiction.
The normal procedure is to taper a patient off of it, very slowly to help minimize the worst of the withdrawal effects.
