How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Take An Opiate? (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help.

If you are addicted to oxy's and have been for awhile, you might find the pain which caused you to start the medication no longer exists. Three days of Subs should get you through the oxy withdrawals painlessly. Now stop taking the Subs before you get addicted to them. You will have PAWS from the oxy's but it is not even close to the misery of withdrawals from subs. If you start taking subs on a regular basis, you will become addicted fast and will not be able to break the addiction. I am on day 110 from taking my last 8 mg strip of Suboxone and I am still in acute withdrawals. I found that Simpson oil relieves the stomach cramps. Klonopin stops the shaking legs. I have five years experience on oxy's and another five on Suboxone. If I were to do it again I would have stopped the subs on day two or three and went on with my life. We all have something in common. If we knew back then what we know now, we would have never started and after being addicted to oxy's I would have only used subs to mask the oxy withdrawal. Not all people need subs for longer than three days. Some may because of their addiction to street drugs but remember subs bring their own hell to your life and are darn near impossible to get off once addicted. This is my experience and by the way I have never taken an opiate that was not prescribed.

Bulls*** just wait 24 hours. I wait 24 hours but by 32 hours it should be completely out of your receptors and available for other opiates to enter. Since hydrocodone is not strong you might not feel it after 24 hours. Unless you take extra I would wait 32 hours if I were you. Only eight milligrams you're taking so that's not that much. I take 24 milligrams. I just took 16 milligrams of Suboxone and don't feel anything. Also extracting a tooth or whatever can be taken care of with ibuprofen 600 milligram or Tylenol. It does not even hurt, just try not to get a dry socket by smoking.

I completely agree. I was (and continue to be) shocked at the answer given. I am NOT a doctor so I will not weigh in, I am however a Suboxone patient. The very first rule about Suboxone is you MUST talk to your provider BEFORE stopping, changing or anything like that. Please do not take important medical/medicinal advice from a chat room, unless you are using it for support. Each of us are different and may not have the same reaction as the person seeking advise. Good luck to you and please, call ur care provider.

Yeah you can for sure take Ops I took 30 Dr0 10s all in one day didn't do a thing for my pain right after I got my wisdom teeth cut out, I had been on Suboxone & subutex for at least 3 years when I had that done and took them, I knew I would be screwed because I don't care how long your off ops if you had a super high tolerance like me then your tolerance never goes back down after being on Buprenorphine or methadone and clean for years well in my case (Guess I don't have any dopamine left) sure I don't because it was always pedal to the metal with everything (Took E every day two years straight drink 24 pack a day for over ten years did at least a G a day of white usually more for a few years & same thing with c-rank, and a regular day 15 Xanax bars 5 O-C 80s at minimum,after I went hard on everything jumping from one to another and while going one to another I would keep the other ones in the mix just not as my main thing as the drug I was super on at the time well alcohol with all of them, just a back story I know peeps Prob don't believe that but yea I went holder then juicy j and the whole game put together and not proud of it, just 29 with the health of a 90 year old, so any younger folks YOLO ain't the way to live because you will live a lot longer then you think, I know peeps don't say YOLO anymore LMAO. Anyways you can take ops with Buprenorphine, suboxone or subutex. it don't matter and it's not the Naloxone that throws you into withdraws its the main ingredient in the drug Buprenorphine and yes Naloxone does get in your body thru subular, and stops the Buprenorphine from helping you with pain for peeps that can't get subutex in TN anymore that has chronic pain and is an addict, so it's so stupid how they think naloxone is what's stopping addicts from taking both. Only way your going to go into withdraws if you like using a lot of opiates and try and take Buprenorphine when your hi, because the bupurphine is gonna knock the opiates off your dopamine receptors and make you sick. This last time I'm every Gonna take time to speak on bupurphine because it's so misunderstood by peeps it just gets so freaking old even the docs that give it to you don't know how it works, anyways that's my last two cents.

Suboxone also is prescribed for pain. Though very rare.

Dude you obviously know nothing about opiates. You must be one of those guys that gets off by taking an aspirin. Stop giving false information and check yourself. People trip so badly and go from website to post to website trying to find the right answers scared to death of some vague bull crap when all you got to do is find out yourself. {edited for policy reasons}

Never takes a dam year to feel an opiate after suboxone bro..2 days max! Really 12 hrs to 24 hrs depending on how much suboxone you took that day..for a whole 8 mg strip you'd need to wait 24 hrs half of one of less 12 hours and you will feel an opiate depending on what kind of opiate..you will not feel it as much as you would if u wait 24 hrs but you will feel it..i know from experience

This is bulls***. A year, yeah in a perfect world if this were true then people would not keep buying opiates when they run out of subs.

I took like two mg of suboxone at like 7:30 a.m today- and then took other opioids at 12 just 4.5 hrs later and I felt it. I have found that when I take subs normally on a Daily basis and then take any opiate it works but takes awhile to get back to working as strong but if I barely take subs(which I try to barely take them ) and the a small piece of one I can immediately take opiates in the same day and feel the effects regularly.

Really? No need to be judgemental. Seriously...not cool to just assume anyone is an addict. From what I've read thus far, people are here hoping to get some answers. Shame on you.

BUDDY123: You not feeling your hydrocodone after 3 months of being clean is not because of Suboxone. That stuff cleared out of you after a week at the most. Maybe they are giving you generics, which can vary GREATLY in their effectiveness/strength. But no, it does not take a YEAR for bupe to get out of your body. And btw, 4mgs, 2x a day really isn't a ton of bupe. I was on anywhere from 16 to 32 mgs, with 32 being the "ceiling" dose. When I switched back to tablet methadone, I was taking 30mgs of bupe. So 8mgs isn't really that much. That is actually on the low side of what people take. And you don't sound like you took a "handful of xannies" to me, btw. It was a little long, but you were clear and concise, and I understood everything you said. Some people just like to hurl insults. PEACE

I wasn't trying to give the impression that its taken 3 months to get out of my system. I'm sure that happen within the first week or two, but for the side effects of being off it I know I am still going through. Low energy, low drive, no motivation, clammy hot flashes, general depression, and what I wouldn't do for a good nights sleep. I miss sleep :-(.

Little is correct, subs play a mean defense against other pain meds, maybe after the subs are completely out of ur system

LITTLENECK: Yes, the problem is if one takes bupe too soon AFTER pain meds. If you take the bupe BEFORE the pain meds, you won't get sick, you just won't feel the opioids. Taking bupe too soon AFTER pain meds is where you run into trouble.

I'm about to go thru almost exactly thing/procedure in a few days. I will be haveing bits of what is left of a molar in back removed with dental surgery. My doc wrote me for 7.5/325 of Demerall for the pain along with antibiotic because it has been acting up and is now infected. He says the ibuprofen I'm taking will not help in a couple of days because it will get pretty bad and he does not want me to suffer over holiday. I did not even ask or consider that he might write for the pain meds duets me being on Suboxone 8/2 ×3 a day and figured it would not even be a possibility to help me. That being said obviously me being on subs didn't help with the pain so far, I had to take 4×200 milligram Ibuprofen every 6 hours for the last 2 days with the infection now I am concerned to wait and the ibuprofen not help or the subs. I'm trying to get ahold of my doctor to find out if she wants me to go off subs and hope for the Demerol to help with the pain until I get through surgery and then go back on subs or whatever. What to do?
Please help?
