How Long Before I Take Second Suboxone (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Am trying to kick heroin. Took half of an 8mg suboxone after experiencing 18 hrs of withdrawals. That did the trick. It has now been 13 hrs since I took the fist dose. Am now wondering how long do I wait before I take a second dose of suboxone? Will I need to wait until I go through withdrawals again or what? A speedy reply will be greatly appreciated.

ARI....thank you for your info. I've been taking about 80 mg a day of percs.....sometimes more. I started 7 years ago, due to an injury and somehow I let these darn things start controlling my life. I'm MORE than ready to kick this habit. I was able to get 3 strips, 8 mg, of suboxone and was Hopi g that would be enough to kick this habit. My family has no idea I'm addicted.....so I'm trying to do this at home without him knowing. Can u give me an idea of a time "schedule" as to when to take them, how much and for how long? Thanks in advance!

I know this is years old, but maybe this will help some one else looking into it. My boyfriend and I were on 120mgs of Oxycodone a day for a few months. We'd been addicted to it for over a year at this point, but not that much until these recent months. We wanted to stop and ended up getting a couple 8mg/2mg suboxone strips a piece. We took half of one after 24 hours of last oxy dose. It helped tremendously. We didn't feel withdrawal again until 1 and 1/2 days later. We took another half of a strip. We continued this for almost a week. And within about 6 days, we had no withdrawl at all and we're completely clean. Doctors over perscribe it. You can easily quit without needing more than 8MG a day based on the amount of oxy you're on. Like I said, we were on way more than that, and got clean in a week. Once we were out of suboxone, we stopped every thing. So suboxone, no oxy. Nothing. It can be done. Best wishes to who ever is going through this. Good luck

I Was on methadone also and made the same mistake. Serious scary withdrawals. It took three weeks before I could take it without getting sick but I was on 120 mgs a day for almost six years. Its been a month now and according to my drug tests it took about 5 wks to completely leave my system. Methadone works differently than other opiates. It has staying power. I would wait at least two weeks before trying the suboxone. Or it will just make U sick again. When U do try it try a small amount at first that way if it does send U in to withdrawals they won't be so severe.

To those like Courty, yes - it works. Suboxone fills all of the mu opiate receptors which prevents withdrawal from ALL opiates. Unless you are opiate naive (don't take opiates regularly) there is no high which eliminates the craving to be high. Addiction (drug seeking) creates new behavioral habits and new neural pathways Taking Suboxone will enable you to recover from both. See a doctor, be honest with her\him, take your meds as prescribed and start hitting meetings.

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.

Hopefully I can clear up some confusion for people. This is based on a combination of personal experience and knowledge from reading the actual information that comes with Suboxone (so few read the form inside) and talking with my doctor.

Also if you would prefer to withdraw at home without Suboxone you can look up the THOMAS RECIPE which is a method using OTC vitamins and drugs to cancel out withdraw symptoms.

WHEN TO TAKE FIRST DOSE -

You need to be ranking at a 5 to 6 on the COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale). Google the scale. It will tell you where you are at based on the withdraw symptoms you are experiencing. This can be more accurate then going off of time since everyone withdraws at different rates based on the type of opiate they used, body weight, tolerance, etc.

You NEED to wait 12-24 hours after taking your LAST dose of any FAST ACTING opiate BEFORE taking Suboxone. Fast acting opiates are oxycodone (roxicodone and percocet), hydrocodone (Vicodin), codeine (Tylenol 3), heroin, morphine, etc. LONG ACTING OPIATE are: methadone, buprenorphine (aka Suboxone), time released Oxycontin and Fentanyl. *I didn't name ALL the short and long-term opiates, those are just the most popular. IF TAKING LONG LASTING OPIATES you MUST WAIT at least 36-48 hours before taking Suboxone to allow it to leave you system first.

Suboxone contains Naloxone which removes and then blocks all opiates currently on your brain receptors. If you have not allowed your body sufficient time to remove these opiates then the Naloxone will block too many receptors preventing the Buprenorphine from attaching itself. This is called Precipitated withdrawal. If you fall in Precipitated withdrawal there is NOTHING you can do but wait it out as no amount of opiates or Suboxone will be able to attach to your receptors.

HOW TO GET SUBOXONE-

GO TO A DOCTOR! You can go to the Suboxone website to find one. Most insurances WON'T COVER the visit and it usually cost $250. Most insurance WILL COVER the prescription and there are coupons on their website. Tell him/her the truth and how much and when you used. They will start you on the right dose and you will have to come back every 2-4 weeks. You'll have to take a urine test to make sure you are not abusing any other drugs and are taking the Suboxone. Usually follow up visits cost $100. This is surly cheaper then what we spent on drug dealers in the long term.

EFFECTS OF SUBOXONE-

I had tapered myself down from 60mg of Roxicodone and Heroin each day to 20-40 mg of Oxycodone a day before taking Suboxone. I took my last dose at 6pm, went through a tough night then took my first dose of Suboxone at 2:30pm the following day (20 hours later). I was prescribed 8mg strips, 4mg in the morning and 4mg at night. I'm male and weigh 165lbs. Hopefully that gives you a range of time and dosage needed if you feel it necessary to take this off the street and do it on your own (not recommended!).

Taken subliminally (strips under the tongue) it will take 15-30 min before withdrawal symptoms disappear. 60-90 minutes after initial dose you will reach the peak and feel high energy with NO WITHDRAW SYMPTOMS. 90-120 minutes later you will even out and feel normal. Not high and not sick. If you still feel sick then most likely you took too low of a dose. According to my Doctor and the Suboxone instructions you can take an additional 2mg every 2 hours until withdraw symptoms subside.

Usually your doctor will tell you to take one dose in the morning then another at night before you go to sleep. Remember Suboxone is LONG LASTING. That's the magic of it so you don't need to constantly go through the insanity of getting high every couple of hours so not to be sick.

Tell you doctor you want to taper off. They will usually put you on a 1-2 month maintenance dose to find what works for you and allow you to get use to feeling normal again. It also removes the psychological urge for that "rush". The 3rd month they will begin to taper you off to a low enough dose that you can "jump off". The jump off will still have very manageable withdraw symptoms. There is no magical way to skip this. It just becomes a hundred times easier when working with a doctor. DO NOT try this on your own. Suboxone is much more addicting and stays in your system longer then most abused opiates do. As a result if you get hooked on it you will have worse withdraws that last longer.

I can not stress enough that Suboxone takes TIME to absorb. I know we are use to a rush but that is not how it works. You need to wait 2 hours before taking more (2mg). Otherwise you risk taking to much and getting sick or even worse throwing yourself into a harder Precipitated Withdraw if you didn't wait long enough after your last opiate dose.

FINALLY-

DO NOT become one of those people who go on Suboxone for years. It's just the same trap as drug abuse and will make it even harder to come off the Suboxone. The whole point of the drug is to give you time to get your affairs in order and release yourself from the psychological urges for that instant rush and getting high. When taken correctly Suboxone should make you feel normal and prepare to take a few days off to go through the much lighter Suboxone withdraw once you have been tapered down.

If you read this far you are now more educated then 95% of people who are misinformed people misinforming people.

You can gradually get on suboxone withdrawal free!! Yes, it's true. I have done it twice already. No need to wait 24 hours for heroin users. The trick is, to begin taking tiny doses 10 or 12 hours after and every 2 hours after last does of H. Take 0.5 mgs every couple of hours and after 24 hours take what is needed according to symptoms. You will slowly introduce bupe without sending the brain into shock.

Subs are very helpful. I know it may puns trite, but will power. You have to make up your mind and develop a plan. Imodium ad, Benadryl and Xanax will help as well or any antidepressant. Gabpentin is a very good drug for back pain too. Take it. It's not a narcotic and j will need about 800 mg capsule

Absolutely my friend. Suboxone is a true life saver , in every sense. That's a fact. I'm 52 years old and have Been on this long road since I was 14. Suboxone will and can save you. The problem begins after you start feeling better, the old thinking comes back...I can do just a few, a @ weeks worth. It's not worth it. One is to many, and a @ thousands not enough. Never were truer words spoken don't wait till your 52 and lose everything and everyone that ever mattered to you...because trust me, you will. Get taking suboxone and get a doc who understands. Or, just keep going down this s***ty awful road to nowhere. Ozzy said it best in the song ..." The road to nowhere leads to me".

So far the Sumboxin has been a life saver. I was scared as hell too. Been taking 45 mg morphine 4 + times a day, and up to 8 norcos 10/325, everyday for three years and ten years previous of norcos, among other things. The simboxin is amazing, would recommend to anyone. 15 hours into 1st pill, no withdrawls, back b pain just starting to kick in. JUST DO IT. The sooner the better.

Dear Bird, usually if u take one and it helps, u don't need another one until 24 hours later. That's how u do it, one every 24 hours. Unless u r still withdrawing, u might need more.
