How To Take Suboxone At Home (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have ten suboxones. I have been taking oxycontin for pain but want to try at home to w/d. I can't discuss this with my doctor as it will affect my insurance. This is a fact..in my case... Can someone on here tell me how to take my subs? I would appreciate any answers and no lectures. How many do I need to withdraw..Thanks so much.

hello to all.i have just spent about 1 hour reading this entire thread, and i have to say there is soooo much that needs to be clarified.many people here and on other sites are genuinely looking for advice about suboxone and subutex.hell even the people wanting to use it recreationally,i am here to help.i have many years experience with almost every opiate under the sun,and i have studied the ins and outs of them.not sure where to start so i guess....first off buprenophine is what will cause the precipitated w/ by kicking all other opiates off your recepters and slowly filling them.the naloxone is there as a deterant. it doesnt really come in to play unless you want to shoot or snort it and even then you need to take more than 4mg for it to make you even a little sick.it is a long explanation as to why.as for sub induction (first dose of sub),it depends on what you have been taking.oxycontin because of the time release has a half life of around 12 hours.oxycontin crushed or with the coating removed is 6 hours(also any other form of oxycodone ir).heroin is 4-8 and methadone is 36 hours.now, all of that really isnt that relevant people just seem to be interested.what is relevant is your withdrawal symptoms.when you feel your last symptom comming on it is 100% safe to take your sub.by that i mean everyones withdrawal is different.i would start with my eyes watering then light sneezing.next back pains and sneezing getting worse.then nausea, cold sweats, crap pains and everything else getting worse.finally after pooping 1 or 2 solids, the diareah starts along with the rest getting worse.that is when i would take my sub(usually 16-20 hours after my last opiate).and i do 2mg every hour as i deem necessary.i have done this 6 times now and it always works perfectly.the last time i had been using for 3 months and was up to 480mgs oxycodone each day.(and for the people who dont know oxycodone is oxycontin, roxy, percocet, endocet, etc.they are company names and different amounts of mgs).even at 480mgs a day i was able to completely kick in 5 days with 2 8mg subs and ABSOLUTELY NO WITHDRAWAL.as a matter of fact i even felt a little buzz the first day.if done correctly you can make yourself an opiate virgin in just 10 days.5 day painless detox with sub then 5 days more without opiates and you will be once again be an opiate virgin.the first day i go back to opiates i can get completely obliterated from just 1 roxy 30.its just up to you to not let yourself get out of hand again. ive really studied and tested every aspect of subs (other than shooting)to the point where its a joke when reading posts from doctors or listening to anything a doctor has to say.anyway id be glad to help anyone in anyway i can so just let me know.

I am a former heroin addict and I am now on subs. Im prescribed 2 8gm subs a day but I don't take that much. You will need to start going thru withdrawals first. Don't worry you won't have to wait every long. Do you plan on staying on subs or just to help you get off the pills? If not if I was you I would start out with a half a sub and just try taking pieces of quarters here and there, if you've been taking pills for awhile you might need to take a little more at first but I would only do that for a day or two and then try to bring yourself down. Your gonns be a little uncomfortable at first but just try to do something to take your mind off of it. I'm gonna be getting off subs soon because I feel as if I'm ready and I just hate that I have to take a pill every single day. Good luck!

if he's only taking 30mg/day tell him to just jump. Don't even use the sub's. I was on painkillers (Oxycontin/codone) for about 7 years. Occasionally my habit would go months on end at upside of 1100-1300+ mg/day. I was twis-ted. Got on Sub's for about 2 1/2 years after. Originally thought they were a "miracle pill" like everyone else. Then I had to kick the Sub's. You have NO idea what an opiate kick is, until you've tried to kick Suboxone. At 24mg/day, well, I just had no idea. Made a methadone kick seem like a walk in the park. On day 88 I was still at roughly 80% of a full blown opiate kick. Puking, runs, whole 9yards. On day 89 I decided I was either going to wrap my mouth around a rifle or get high, but I was NOT going to feel that way any longer. Well, needless to say, the latter was what wound up happening. I guess my point is: Be careful with the Sub's. Short term they are great for titration. DO NOT let anyone talk you into any type of long-term (read:over 10days) usage. Little known fact is that Suboxone/Subutex (Buprenorphine) is an opiate TOO. ALL opiates come with a pricetag. Don't think you are going to get off scott-free. Used correctly however, Sub's can really minimize the effects of a "kick" when used in conjunction with vitamins and supplements. 4 or so 8mg tabs/strips has been more than sufficient to bring me off a 1000+ mg/day bender. You should also learn what the "half-life" of a medication means and know the effective half-life of your med's. (oxy=3.5 whereas Bup. =39.5, or so) I will also tell you to be honest with yourself. If you're just using them to "fill a dry spell" then you would be better served with Loperamide. Sub's are better used for actual detox. Again, DO NOT TAKE FOR MORE THAN 14 DAYS. I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU. I was told a plethora of lies too. I have kicked opes more times than even I can count, alcohol(saw spiders-baaad), speed(meth), coke, and benzo's(almost died-baaad) and NONE of it even came CLOSE to the misery of a Suboxone kick. I had to get really fancy to get my life back. Another story for another time. Start with 4-6mg. That should be enough to get ya feelin' better. WAIT 'til you start feeling crappy. I have done the precipitated withdrawal thing twice also. That is brought about by taking the Sub's too soon. Put me in the hospital once. No fun. I THOUGHT (the mind is powerful) I was feeling bad so I took the Sub. Well, it was just the "lack 'o' dope blues" making me think I felt crappy. Wait until you've actually got the watery eyes/sneezes/brillo-in-the-throat, shaky symptoms. Place 4mg under the tongue and relax. In 45minutes or so you'll feel like a million bucks. that night take 2mg before bed. Same the next day but cut dosages in half. Continue, cutting dosage in half each day, and on day 5or6 just jump. There will be mild discomfort on day 2 or 3 totally clean. It will take 2-3 days for the Sub's to completely quit working/exit your system (that half-life thing) and those days, 3 and 4 will be the worst. Gabapentin really helps me on those days as does 5HTP for the depression. Hope this helps, and your mileage may vary.

I think everyone on this forum is kind of missing a key element to recovery. This is why so many of you have multiple detox stories about using subs to detox. Suboxone is used as a maintenance drug during your recovery so that you are able to make the needed changes in your life to cure your addiction. It's not "once an addict, always an addict.". and you don't need to live your life like that.
Go to a clinic or doctor and get a prescription, get yourself a counselor, and if it helps you go to groups. Only after taking those steps can you recover fully from the disease of addiction.
I know you all out there are desperate, I was too. Desperate to feel normal, desperate to feel healthy, and desperate to live life and truly enjoy just living.
Look at it this way:
A person eats horribly and deosnt excersize all their life. As a result they develop diabetes. However, this person sees a doctor, gets on insulin. But also this person eats healthy meals, excersizes and loses wait. After a year, or more, depending on how hard they work their doctor tells them that they dont need the insulin anymore. Are they still diabetic? The answer is no.
The same can be said about maintenance treatments. The medication is a took to make the necessary changes to cure your illness.
I still have had slip ups, even recently, its not a panacea. But, it has given me the tools I need to for the most part make the changes in my life needed to make it normal again.
I know that it definately isnt the answer for everyone, but, rushing through your recovery isnt the answer for anyone that really wants to stay clean. Its more than just the sickness, its the mental sickness that youve created through your use.

I don't want to give a lecture as u said but there is ABSOLUTELY no one liner answer that is accurate in all or even most cases. As far as background I has a 10 to 50 30mg Roxy contin addiction both oral, IM and IV. During which time I tried 4 rapid detix centers, 3 12 step facilities, 2 narcanon, 4 out patient facilities and 3 suboxone out patient attempts.
Bottom line is you absolutely do not want to take it without being in full withdrawal and there are specific clinical guidelines to determine when that is. It varies depending on your drug of choice and it ts half life of which methadone is generally the longest. Also the dosage and duration you were on it is relevant. I have witnessed people given the wrong dose at the wrong time, but more importantly and TRUST me on this had it given to me to early once when my addiction was severe and it was overwhelmingly more severe withdrawal symptoms that when given at the correct time with the right dose. Do not take this lightly. The adverse affects can be dangerous and and intensely painful if done incorrectly. PLEASE leave it to a professional. With over a dozen attempts at treatment in a half dozen different types treatment and over a million $$$ waisted on the drug n treatment. Trust me do it right the first time rather that foolishly as I did.

Yes, it is worse than hell. I was taking over 25 plus Roxy's a day when a detox facility who was not familiar with treating such high dose patients gave me subs before I was in full withdrawal which in my case was around 18 hours at the time. Though I felt like hell at that moment due to the onset of regular withdrawals, when I was given the subs I immediately began horrific hallucinations, vomiting, uncontrollable diariaha, feelings if ants crawling all over my body, hearing noises that weren't real, physical pain so severe I bacame uncontrollable to refrain me in my bed by staff. It was physically, emotionally, and mentally everything thing one would imagine hell to be like. Granted I was on unusually high dose of opiates when this occurred, but it is not worth the risk of taking to early for anyone in my opinion. It has the potential to make regular withdrawals seem like a trip to Disney Land if subs are given too early.

Suboxone contains a powerful opiate Buprenoprhine, with the agonist Naloxone. So, it can also put opiate users into withdrawals if it is not used carefully.

It should also only be used under a doctor's supervision.

Normally Suboxone is started at a dosage near what the person was taking in other opiates, this helps prevent the severe withdrawal symptoms, then it is slowly tapered, until the person can stop taking it all together, with minimal effects and end up drug free.

You can read more about it here:

so i need some help. me and my husband have gotten addicted to pain pills in the last 1 1/2 yrs or so..it started with a friend that was prescibed opanas for herniated disks in his back and we decided to try them..our pill of choice is now blues (30mg oxy) or equivilent..for me i normally do about 2 pills a days just to be me and my husband around 4/5..on a good day when we have them obvioulsy we do more...its a problem now, i don't want to depend on these things, we are always broke bc we have to buy then off of the street, and most of the time we don't even have them and feel like crap. we do however have about 10 subs that we used in between not having blues. i have to say that they are great. make you feel great and no cravings. i want to be done with blues tho and i took about 2 weeks off of work between xmas and new years. i did read some places that i can use the sub to detox for a few days and taper within those days. the longest ive gone without a blue would have to be about 18 hrs then i always have to do something so cold turkey is not going to work. im not strong enough to do it. is it possible that i can use the subs to detox for a few days then just be done? when i do the subs between blues i can only use about 1-2mg or i get sick (dizzy, puke, etc). so im wondering if i can do 2mg 2xs a days for two days 1mg 2xs a day for 2 days and so on until its nothing. any info would help me big time i want to be done with these things by the new year and i want my life back! please help

I just stopped taking 4 Roxicet 30mg per day. I wanted to say how helpful reading all your stories was. I was very skeptical about the Suboxone. But This is week 2 and it works. I treally worked. I was told to wait 12-24 hours, and I tried so hard to make it to 14...at hour 14 I was shaking in fear that I wouldn't be able to do it, but I took a film 8/2mg and cut it in half...and put 1/2 under each side. IT WORKED> i was so proud and so happy. I bought these from the same person I get my roxi's from (ironic I know) but it worked and I have a whole host of issues that could have de-railed this. (Bi-Polar, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia...) PLEASE!! accept my THANK YOU!! reading this got me to this point and I will update after I stop the Sub's...I am only taking 1/2 a film every other day now..so much easier than stopping the roxi...although I keep tensing up waiting for the sub to wear off so far it has not...my pain is ok too.

I havent read anyone trying to detox off of herion on this forum as am I? I got a prescription and I ve just been nervous about taking the leap over to subs,I know their the miracle pills but my main two concerns are 1) Doctors tell you wait 24 hours or wait till in withdraw before you Take your first pill or you may go into full blown hell withdraw if you take it earlier and Ive seen it happen to myself and other friends who waited and still people got sick. waiting 14 , 18 , 24 hrs. and my 2nd concern is there are alot of doctors that recommend you take them like a maintence drug for a bout a year , that if you try to come off from whatever your choice of drug was to trying to just detoxing at home real quick like a 5 to 7 day period that chance of relapse is very likely. everyone wants to be done with everything, but the truth is ask yourself if you been getting high for 5 years using opiates whats a year on suboxone, its more subtle and a better chance of recovery, I agree with the theory but I dont want to be on subs either. Id rather try to detox from dope to subs in say a 5-7 daty period then done. esentially if I do it the other route for a year i'll just be hooked on subs then i'll have to wean off them. I want to just man up and be done with this crap. Any advice? I'll need it. Opiates ruined my life. its either this or I may as well as end it , this is no way to live

For those who want to listen, about 11 months ago I detoxed off of 30mg-60mg. doses, a day, of percocet using suboxone. I used subs for 12 days, first day dosing with 4mg. and slowly tapering down for the next 12 days, on the 12th. day I woke up with no pain w/d's and felt great so i left the subs alone. Lone and behold though I went through a rough patch in my life about 2 months after being clean and began using again, more than ever before. So here I sit, day one of subs and I must say they are a miracle, all the w/d's are gone and I only plan on using them for 12 days because the percocet's only stay in your system I believe for 7-8 days, by doing 12 days it allows me a bit of a buffer zone. Everyone give me your opinions, please I know how bad it sucks to be wasting all your money and resources just keep yourself normal everyday

I have been addicted to pain killers for about 4 years total and 30 mg percs (aka blues) for about a year now. taking them very heavily the past 5 months. I was at 300 mg a day just to feel like living. I thought the 24 hours wait would be harder than it was. granted all the other times I tried I couldnt do it. this morning was my first day on subs. they do work, I still feel s***ty and want the opiate high, but the subs do take away the sweats and the pain. I only have 6, I just pray that its enough. But I am ready to be off opiates for the rest of my life, so if the 6 dont do it, i will go to my doctor for I dont care if I am flagged and never allowed to touch them again, its for the best. Everyone should be proud of themselves for doing it on their own, yes its the hardest thing you will ever do but in the end, youll have money and your life back...I have an amazing husband who I confessed my addiction to in Novemeber, I wanted to quit and he thinks I did, but it was just too hard, I have felt like total scum since (lying, taking money from our savings, etc.) so not only am i doing this for me, but for him, because not everybody is as lucky as me to have a husband like him...

Anyway, to answer a previous question about how long to wait before taking your 1st subox, my dr. never told me I had to wait for 12-24 hours or whatever. In fact, I was just barely feeling any kind of w/drawal when I took my 1st one, which was only about 8 hrs later. And while I commend people who are trying to get off opiates w/ 10 or 15 subs, I would like to say that it really is better all around to go to a clinic and have them prescribed to you. Then you can have your dose regulated for you specifically and have a dr. monitoring your progress for the best possible outcome. I was on subs for about 3 months after a 5-6 yr addiction, and for me, that was enough time. The main problem w/ having a short and quick w/drawal and recovery (i.e. a couple of weeks or less) is that your chances of relapse are HUGE. So for those who still want to do it that way, get yourself a good support system and make some life-changing plans to keep you on track b/c you have to take the psychological w/drawal into consideration - and many people don't. That's why many dr.s reccommend a year or two for being on subox - b/c when the subs are in your system, you could go back to your drug (opiate) of choice but you wouldn't be able to get high off it no matter how hard you tried. Without the subs, well, you know how it goes. I would've stayed on them a little longer, but for some reason the subs left me exhausted all the time. But the moral of this story is to suck it up and go see a dr.! No one will find out you're on subox, even your other dr.s - it's all confidential! Give yourself the best chance possible. And for those on here who are trying to use subox to get some kind of better high, I feel sorry for you, but seriously - find a different forum.

I have been on pain meds for many years...morphine hydroco, tramadol and soma all at once. A few years ago, I went for inpatient detox because I wanted to see what my baseline of pain was at the time. Suboxone was used at that time. My pain increased greatly and I resumed taking the meds. Now I wish to get off all meds again and hopefully for good and all. I have the left over Suboxone from the inpatient detox and plan to use it at home folowing the same directions as prescribed by my MD in the hospital. My concern is that these sublingual pills are about three or four years old. Any advice as to whether they may no longer be potent or may be harmful. Any comments or oinions will be grestly appreciated.

TO START SUB AT HOME ON YOUR HOME. FIRST YOU WILL NEED TO PUT YOURSELF IN WITHDRAWLS. FOR ATLEAST 24 HOURS OR AS LONG AS YOU CAN STAND IT. THE DOCTOR MAKES YOU WAIT 3 DAYS. I DID ANYWAYS! THEN START OUT WITH A 2MG UNDER YOUR TONGUE. LET IT DISSOLVE. DO NOT TALK,DRINK,EAT OR SMOKE AT THIS TIME. ONCE IT STARTS TO DISSOLVE YOU SHOULD FEEL SOME EASE. IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH THEN TAKE ANOTHER 2 MG AFTER 2 HOURS, YOU CONTINUE TO INCREASE IN 2 MGS UNTIL YOU FEEL YOUR BODY IS TAKING TO IT. NORMALLY THIS COULD TAKE UP TO 4-6 HOURS. FOR THE PILLS AND STRIPS IF YOU TAKE MORE THAN 1 PUT ONE EACH UNDER YOUR TONGUE ON EACH SIDE BUT NO MORE THAN 2 AT A TIME. DO NOT OVER TAKE THIS MEDICATION EITHER. SUB STAYS IN YOUR SYSTEM FOR 24 HOURS. ALL THE SUB THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN ARE ORANGE AND NO OTHER COLOR, THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN TELL THEM APART BY THE PILL IS HOW BIG THEY GET BY THE INCREASE AND THE STRIP IS BY THE THICKNESS. I ONLY NOW ALL OF THIS BECAUSE I WENT TO THE DOCTOR MYSELF AND REQUESTED THIS MEDICATION BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO LIVE ON PAIN MEDICATION FOR THE REST OF MYLIFE. I WOULD RATHER TRY AND COPE WITH THE PAIN WITH OVER THE COUNTER PRODUCTS. ALSO ON SUB YOU HAVE TO BE REAL CAREFUL BECAUSE YOU CAN'T TAKE CERTAIN MEDICATIONS WITH IT. CONSULT WITH A DOCTOR IF YOU CAN THAT WOULD BE THE BEST. IF YOU TAKE TO MUCH OF THE SUB IT CAN HAVE BAD SIDE EFFECTS AND BE WORSE THAN COMING OFF PAIN MEDICATION.
