Finding Subutex Dr?
UpdatedI am really having a hard time finding a doctor who treats with Subutex and not Suboxone. I have chronic pain syndrome and relief-seeking behavior soon became drug-seeking behavior. My psychiatrist put me on Subutex, and my pain was reduced a little, but I wasn't so much into drug seeking anymore. I was treated for 5 years. Then I moved, and I can't find anyone in Ohio who does this. I might have to move back to Chicago! Any suggestions?
What is your particular issue with using Suboxone, rather than Subutex?
They both contain the exact same narcotic to treat pain and/or addiction, Buprenorphine.
The only difference is that the Suboxone also contains Naloxone, to help prevent someone from abusing other narcotics, while they are using it.
If you are no longer having a problem with drug seeking, then I am not sure I understand why this is an issue, since they contain the same narcotic and either one will help treat your pain.

Have you tried just discussing your issue, whatever it is, with your doctor and discovering what they say about it and why they may prefer to use the Suboxone, instead?
I'm not sure why my former doctor preferred me to use Subutex vs Suboxone, because he prescribes both of these for different pts. I'm not sure why he doesn't want me to have the Naloxone, except that he feels it would affect my bp disorder or interfere with one of my other medicines.
Anyway, all the doctors here prescribe suboxone, but I think I've found a doctor who will use Subutex maintenance for me. Apparently he rx Subutex for his pregnant pt. So, I'm sure I'll find out more on Thurs.
I do wish I would have asked my former dr about why no Suboxone, but I'd seen him for 25 years, so I guess I trusted his judgement.
I am sure that this is something you could very easily discuss with your new doctor, they should have some idea if it will interfere with some other medication you are on or other medical condition.
You can also ask a pharmacist and they will be happy to provide you with an answer.
If you can tell me what else you are taking, I can also research that for you to see if that may be the reason.
I'm a rapid cycler. I mean, I can swing day to day, week to week, month to month, so when I got this doctor and I stopped all the crazy swings, I did so much better in life and work and everything. My dr was very good at tweeking my medicines to keep me even. I just assumed that if he said there was something I shouldn't have it would affect whatever balance we had achieved. Because besides being bp, I also have high blood pressure, Type II Diabetes and other physical considerations. So, I just don't know what is going on there. But, I'll find out sooner or later. If you really want to research, my bipolar medicines include: Lamictal, bupropion, Straterra, and then my blood pressure meds and meds for diabetes. So, I guess I didn't realize how complicated I was! LOL! I've got an appt on Thurs, so maybe y'all can wish me luck.
I did check on the medications that you listed, which as you said, isn't a complete list and you actually already have one possible interaction among them, that can result from taking the Buprenorphine (the narcotic in Suboxone and Subutex) with the Bupropion.
The doses have to be monitored carefully, since it can cause dose related seizures, but as I said, this is with the Burpenorphine, not the Naloxone.
So from this, I am not finding anything else that may explain why he chose to use one of them over the other.
It is, of course, possible that you are right and he was just trying to be very careful maintaining a balance, since it can be difficult with the health conditions you have.
And yes, I do wish you the very best of luck, all of us here at the site do.
Please post back and let us know what happens and how you are doing!! :-)
Oh and here is a link just for information on Naloxone, by itself, but as you can see, there really isn't much contraindication info listed:

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I might have found a dr who uses Subutex for his pregnant patients. So, wish me luck.
My IL doctor really tried hard to get me an emergency fill, but understandibly the pharm didn't want to fill the rx. The pharmacist said it might be okay if he spoke to the previous pharmacist who handled the rx, and I told him You did. Well, that flew out the window. So, I have another question to ask. I'll open another thread.
Thanks again!
I'm having trouble finding subutex in chicago actually, all i'm finding is suboxone! Any suggestions? Sorry I'm doing the exact opposite of your request :/
i live near cincinnati, ohio and am pregnant and need to find a subutex doctor
I have been on subutex for about 1 1/2 years. My doctor just recently retired and now I'm having a hard time finding a doctor to prescribe me subutex. I was on prescribed pain meds for 13 years. Ive had several surgeries and after my last one I started to feel so much better. I went to a clinic to get off of my pain meds and at first he prescribed suboxne. I was constantly throwing up and feeling horrible. When my doc put me on subutex my life did a 360 and I've been doing wonderful. Well at least I was. Please help me find a doctor in or around PA that will continue my treatment. I'm feeling hopeless and so depressed.
did you ever find one? I'm also pregnant and from Portsmouth Ohio and I'm trying to find another subutex doctor ASAP here in Ohio. .Did you have any luck? Let me know please.
u people need to quit acting like theses meds are gonna be the only thing changing your life sounds like your getting off ! med to be addicted to another makes it hard for people who really arent abusing these meds to be on them!
can some1 give me a name of doc in pa that gives subutex no1 will give me names and numbers i cant afford wv they make you go once a week and pay tooo much heard pa you pay monthly
Are you an addict? It is hard getting off subs ...even taking them as directed and staying clean. Dont judge. People are supposed to find help here not be criticized ..
Hi. This is for anyone who can help me find a Dr in Pa who will prescribe Subutex. I have a serious allergy to phosphates. That's the orange substance in the suboxonne's . When I take it I get extremely sick. Lucky me... I have been batteling this addiction ever since I had surgery on my back. I could be prescribed pain killers if I wanted because my condition is so severe and not treatable but I would rather not. They don't work unless I take very very serious ones like dilaudid and fentanyl. I would prefer to stay somewhat functional as I try and beat my disease. I can't find a Dr anywhere who will help me. Most of them only care enough about themselves and don't really care about anyone else. I don't know why there is such a big problem with prescribing subutex. Drug addicts will abuse anything so trying to keep certain drugs away is ridiculous. It's not really about that. IT's about the money. Plain and simple. They get kick backs from the pharm companies for prescribing suboxone. I read a lot about this and the company that makes suboxone took the drug, at one point, off the market to keep any other companies from being able to manufacture it. They are greedy greedy greedy soulless people that run these corporations. They have kept suboxone from being able to be made into a generic that isn't so expensive. All I want is some help finding a Dr who will help me. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I am drowning here and need a life line. I can be reached at {edited for privacy}. ;) If someone out there knows of a Dr near Pittsburgh pa who is accepting new patients I would be forever grateful. Please email me with the information. I have been searching online for over a year with no luck. There are simply too many sub dr's out there and I can't afford to go to every single one until I find one to help me.
YA THERES NARCON IN SUBOXON SO U CANT FEEL HIGH. BUT ON SUBUTEX U CAN STILL FEEL HIGH ON DRUGS. NARCON IS THE STUFF THE PARAMEDICS GIVE U WHEN U OD ON OPIATES. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF SWITCHING FROM METHADON TO SUBOXON. DOES ANYONE HAVE ADVICE?
I was on subutex for pain control as well, and yes we all know the only difference between the two is the narcan but obviously you haven't experienced chronic pain or you wouldn't be using these judgmental statements and words "abusing" and all that other nonsense about being able to use narcotics with the subutex... Blah blah. Try having chronic pain, being in a almost fatal car accident.. Having spinal stenosis, herniated & bulging discs, joint dysfunction, sciatica shall I go on?!?
She asked a question, she is seeking help and I have done so much research that the only thing that makes sense is the naloxone blocks and fills a lot of the receptors in our brain ESP pain receptors and not as much bupe will reach those receptors!!!
So if it's just the bupe going to those receptors there is going to be a difference!!! Rocket science?
I wish I could help you Hun but this world is terrible and I am in your same boat!
Dr.cipriano in norristown pa if no luck there is a website specifically for this search ill try to find it.
need a dr to precribe subutex in central indiana or eastern ohio. im allergic to naloxone and prime healh group in cincinnati gave me the films and had to go to er even after i told her in initial visit that i was allergic. dr. andrea holigna is her name and she refuses to change script. she got my 250.00 and thats all she wanted. can anyone help. i have 3 kids and am tryin to do the right thing for them
I need Subutex because I take Xanax and have for 20 years, and you are not supposed to mix the two. I am in Nashville, Tennessee and it feels like I have called a million doctors and nobody is willing to prescribe Subutex. It is bc people can take Subutex to get thru their week and then use their drug of choice on the weekends. You can't do that with Suboxone. I have ZERO desire to ever take Lortab again. It nearly killed me. But the very few docs that have actually called me back just flat refuse to help me when I tell them I take Xanax. It's not like I abuse Xanax, I take what I have been prescribed for 20 years for severe anxiety, so now I have to be a criminal and find it illegally. The girl I get it from failed her drug panel, so she doesn't have any and I can't find anything. I feel like I am dying. It's amazing to me how that little pill makes me feel HUMAN!! :)

JAMES: When I was on Subs, my doctor would occasionally give me a low dose of Klonopin if I was having trouble sleeping, or if I was lowering my dose. But then he knew for a fact that opioids were the only thing I ever abused, and that I would only take the benzos as prescribed. But yes, many overdoses have happened with benzos and opioids, so I can understand a doctor's reluctance to prescribe the two together.
All the doctors I have seen will not prescribe subutex and clonazepam together...they ALLLLL say it's a deadly combination, but I've never heard of anyone dying from the 2... Yeah if u f***ing take a s*** load of course... but i live in ohio.... 20 min from indiana, well 30 to 40 min in traffic... Good luck to ya.
I finally found a Dr in Indianapolis that has me on Buprenorphine/ Subutex and has no problem prescribing me my half mg of colonipin 2xday. He is super nice but so wasn't my last Dr. I think he is still taking new patients his name is Dr Miller on the east side of Indy
I am on Sunoco for chronic pain I cant find a doctor to prescribe me subutex if u know one let me know. I have to have surgery and the Sunoco gives me headaches bad. I don't know what to do.
I seen your post about going to Richmond to get subutex, I live in Indiana also between Marion and Wabash on 15 but I have been on 8mg Subutex 3x day and half mg of clonipin 2x day going on now for 4 years but my Dr quit at the Indiana Health Group he referred me to another Dr there and I asked him if the New Dr would change my meds and he asked me if I was having trouble I told him no then he said you don't need your meds changed and the other Dr will not change them because you are doing so well on them. Well the new Dr wanted me to change back to Suboxon and to stop my clonipin, and I told the nurse that my old Dr that quit promised me he would not change my meds. So she said if you don't want to do what he says then you need to call a new Dr and we will give you 1 month of your prescription and release me so o have called every Dr all over the state and cannot find one and I am out of my meds, I hate to say this but I am back taking Drugs again I cannot go thru the withdraws of stopping my meds all at ounce, I have had 2 mild strokes and my family Dr said what Indiana Health Group done to me was wrong unethical and cruel because she said going into bad withdraws like that I could have Another Stroke and Die this time my left artery in my neck that goes to your brain is blocked 100% and I am living on my right side. But my Dr that was prescribing me my Subutex gave me a 1 month supply each month and you said that you had to go each week. Does he do monthly programs and is he taking patients I have very bad back problems also and the subutex kept me off of drugs and helped out my back so if you could can you find out for me and i hope you get better do not let a Dr give you the same amount of a Drug for years I do not understand why my Dr did not start tappering me off of the subutex but all he and the group just wanted money they do not care about anyone I know a girl down there told me that
DAVE: Geez, that's harsh. Have you gone on the Suboxone.com website and gone through the list of Subutex/Suboxone doctors yet? There's got to be SOMEONE out there willing to help you.
Clermont recovery center get pregnant girls in very quick..due to the baby's health.... that's where I go but I am trying to find another subutex doc... I've been there a year. Suboxone makes me sick and nauseated with my gastroenteritis and diverticulitis and I can't find another subutex doc... Good luck to ya.
I need to find another dr that prescribes subutex and clonazepam together. My dr at the indiana health group has been prescribing me 8mg 3x day of subutex and I have been taking clonazepam for around 17 years and it's only a half mg 2 x day and that's what he started out giving me. Then he switched to 3 x day but I only took it 2x day. He also prescribed me 100 mg of zoloft and 225mg of lyrica. So I have been taking those drugs except the clonazepam for 3 years, then he decides to quit the indiana health group and they want me to go on suboxone, but it makes my blood sugar go way up and I have to use insulin, but on subutex I don't use insulin and they even made me go to my diabetes dr to get proof that suboxon does that to me. Now they kicked me out of the program to be clean and off of opiates. They gave me a 1 months supply of my meds and told me to find another dr, and I really am upset about this and so is my family dr. She said it was unethical and cruel because when I run out of my subutex I am going to go into very bad withdraws. So now I need to find a dr in indiana that will prescribe subutex and klonopin together and the chances of that are almost none.
DESPERATE: And I CLEARLY said you are just plain WRONG about "the same amount of Suboxone and Subutex" being different, and the ONLY thing that would be different is the way the Naloxone affects you. Yes, I know what you said there, and you are CLEARLY wrong. The fatigue and headaches have nothing to do with the Bupe itself.
As far as the rest of it, you didn't CLEARLY say anything. I mistakenly thought you were looking for a new Dr. because you were being "switched" to Suboxone from Subutex. Heck. I didn't even know there were "clinics" that gave out Subutex, just private doctors. There are no "Subutex clinics" where I live. I WAS TRYING TO BE HELPFUL SO EXCUSE THE F OUT OF ME, CRAP!! But since you write like a 5 year old, don't use any punctuation, can't spell, don't capitalize, and basically just write big long run-on sentences, your comment is a bit confusing and hard to follow. So no, as far as most of your comment, you didn't CLEARLY say anything! You actually made it as confusing and UNCLEAR as possible. I really hope you are able to find a doctor. And I ALSO hope you get over yourself, because you sound like an arrogant d.bag right now. An arrogant d. bag who can't form a coherent sentence. Just not a very nice person at all. CLEARLY.
I clearly said that just because they have the same amount does not mean they work the same at all! I also clearly said i was on subutext and looking for a dr to replace my current one due to work n not being able to get off!!! I never said i was on suboxune I can not function on it it makea me super tired headaches and just have no energy and everyone I know or talk to about them says the same thing so your reply was very unnecessary and not in the least bit helpful
