As a Vet, why don't you use the VA. I have two friends, and another I know of, who are getting:

Oxycodone/Methadone, Oxycodone/MSContin,
Percocet/MSContin

And the VA pharmacy fills them, with none of the excuses you get from private retailers. Sadly, unless you have an established relationship with a local pharmacy, this is what most people are experiencing. I can't imagine the frustration for new patients discovering just how backwards Florida's PM programs--especially WRT pharmacies that should be looking out for the patients interests. It's pathetic and inhumane.

The problem still exists. I see a Pain Management doctor that is closer to my home. He has prescribed many different pain meds, most of which I CANNOT FILL. Why? I live in the "pill Capitol" of Florida, Pasco county. This is simply ridiculous! My pharmacy just went out of business (Kmart) and after going to hundreds of pharmacies, I have been told many of them refuse to carry MSContin (30mgER), Opana, etc. this past September, he wrote for Opana. I went to a bunch of pharmacies with the same result. Nope. I went back to my doctor, explained what had happened, and was given the MSContin. They even called the drug rep for that medication because the doctor was very upset, and told me he wouldn't change it again! The drug rep told me that I shouldn't have any trouble. She gave my doctors office a supposed list of pharmacies that not only carried it, but would fill it. How naive I was! Over 100+ miles and countless pharmacies later, no luck. I used to go to Kmart, but they required that the doctor be local. My former doctor was in Tampa. I finally switched to my current doctor, which is just a few miles from my home, and went back to Kmart. They were very good. They ordered it and that was that. At least it was, until the store went out of business. I have gone to the pharmacies they recommended, and low and behold, I'm right back to were I started! I am a disabled veteran (50%) and am now screwed! Legitiment prescriptions and people that truly need these medications are being turned away. I am counting the days when I can leave this unethical and barbaric state behind! I have addressed this before with our state rep, and it didn't do any good. It seems that, if anything, the situation is much worse. I hope they get that the way the system works now is causing many people to obtain meds or illicit drugs illegally. The only saving grace I see in the near future is Amendment 2. That is the only reason I will be voting. The 3 candidates running for governor are worthless. Mark my words, the "powers that be" that have made it next to impossible for people in true need to fill a legitiment prescription are also the ones to be held accountable for the many suicdes of people that are given no hope and without the help of their medication, cannot function and have no hope of help in the future. If amendment 2 falls thru, I know I personally am out of options. I am so tired of the looks I get when I have to go from pharmacy to pharmacy, all because of pill mills, dirty doctors, etc. If I make it out of this state alive, I will never look back to Florida again. If I don't, shame on you, Florida, drug distributors, manufactures and the government. I served my country with pride. There is NOTHING to be proud of when people are in need and the government shuns their need and gives them no hope.

Sasha,

If you think one politician (Gov. Scott) or one Party is responsible for the prescription drug shortage/problem, than you're naive or ignorant. In fact, so many of Florida's problems are a result of the DEA's policies, which is a Federal agency.

But even beyond that, consider that the biggest proponent of Marijuana legalization is John Morgan, who hates narcotic pain relievers because of what they did to his permanently injured brother. And who is John Morgan's personal puppet in this cause--none other than Chris Christie--the man who wants to be governor...again.

The last thing I want or need is someone in government telling me that marijuana is a perfectly acceptable substitute for my pain medication--which is what John Morgan is telling me, and by association, Chris Christie. Take a closer look at any politician you support.

Call your Dr and get 15mg but two scripts. He wouldn't give it to you if you were not legit. Unless the guy has a bad reputation as taking care of drug seekers but even then a script is a script, they say theyre out because it would be discrimination if they just said "NO You've had enough" lol What are you my mother

You must be ref. to Publix in G.G.Sarasota? Family has been filling scripts for 27+ years at Publix, myself over 22 years and the new B**** Pharmacist there has "copped" a real attitude and No, she has refused to fill any scripts for 30mg oxycodone within the past 3 months! AND Hundreds, I mean 100's of thousand of $$$ later for all family meds spent at Publix!!! DISGUSTING!!! Past Friday I, literally, drove to 10 different pharmacies and no luck. Regional pharmacy manager was no help saying he would speak to her about her rudeness - big deal.

I understand that FL Gov. Scott is behind all of our med shortages - he states he is "going to clean up Florida" - This is from the man who bilked Medicare out of 600 million dollars!!! (Why he isn't in jail let alone FL voted for this thief??) In any event, believe that all us who legitimately require this medication, MUST lean on our pain management Doctors to supply us! They "say" there is nothing they can do...they'll find a solution once it effects their pocket book when patients say "screw it". The power of the AMA combined with the power of the pharma companies CAN put an end to any shortages which exist. It's up to ALL patients who cannot obtain their meds to really make some noise, starting with their Docs. I have so many medical injuries, mostly spinal, from being rear-ended by a tow truck and 18 wheel chassis that on a "good" day with meds I have problems getting in and out of the car 3-4 times let alone driving to 10 pharmacies. Seriously, people need to really get firm with their doctors, withdrawal all scripts from pharmacies that treat you like publix is doing, vote for a governor who will support patient rights, etc...

I'm sorry that I have no solution to where one can get these meds in the Sarasota-Bradenton area...supposedly, there are "monthly allotments"; however, Friday was the 1st of the month and 10/10 pharmas (everywhere from CostCo to Walmart) had ZERO and my Dad had heard on the news - ABC - Friday night that oxycodone along with 2 other meds were being recalled... could not find in newspaper nor the internet. Urge your family and friends to help by making some "noise". It sucks living 24/7 in pain with the only mediocre relief provided by some meds being deprived to those who require it in order to function. Can u imagine in the government put an allotment on Diabetic or Cardiac medication???

What can be done?

I am thinking this whole problem is now only going to get worse due to the legal suit against FedEx for delivering drugs where they were not legal scripts. How nuts is this? FedEx delivers packages, how are they supposed to police what is in the package and whether it is legitimate or not? I get 1 drug by FedEx, Copaxone, an IV drug for M.S. Does this put me under more scrutiny now? Bet it does and hope it doesn't.

Obamacare is a joke. Obama has made it his mission to take narcotics out of the hands of everyone, legit pain patient or not, it's so much easier then going after the criminals. Isn't it amazing that all these problems started 4 years ago. He has already made it harder on the elderly because they are a drain on the system. Obamacare is not a guarantee of anything except more government oversight of our medical system, and hasn't the government done a wonderful job of everything else they have put their paws on. Now it's just a way for the IRS to take more money from you, yet it's not a tax. How stupid is the American public becoming?

LOPERAMIDE, an OTC med available anywhere for $5 will greatly reduce the effects of withdrawal. It comes in 2mg. doses and is the ONLY OTC narcotic sold. Believe it or not! I took about 30/2mg tablets in an 8-hr. period and it really helps. It binds to the Mu receptors in your gut to simulate what the narcotic does. I am not a Dr., just someone who knows the hell-on-earth, physically and psychologically, that is withdrawal. I don't wish it on anybody. They should make withdrawals a criterea for every pharmacist who denies someone their narcotic prescription so they may "walk in our shoes" for a day or two...

I have had the same Dr. and the same Pharmacy for several years now. My pharmacist whoI have a lot of respect for says his boss is telling him to no longer fill my prescriptions as my physician is out of county and I dont have Insurance. Is there a "mail-order" pharmacy that will fill my med's? I would rather wait a week or so than lie in bed the rest of my life...

I am on patient assistance with purdue for 4 years; I was denied now I am appealing it i lost my job went to stay with family; so I was wrongly denied due to my familys income This is wrong!.. Im waiting for appeal to go thru. Can anybody help me find place that fill my Oxycontin or other program that help me like purdue. unemployed I need my oxycontin to manage my pain from a car acc?dent 4 years ago. When I lost my job i had to stay with family because I had no income; they denied me saying my household income was to much. So I am appealing it; I lost the first appeal; this time they are reviewing it. I am very stressed out worrying about my mental, physical and financial state because of this problem.. I remember 4 years ago i couldnt fill my oxycodone it got harder and harder walgreens said they were out later found out got robbed and stopped carrying them. this is unfair to people like me who NEED medication to control back and neck pain. Why do us pain patients get penalized because drug addicts and bad people ruin it for us its wrong and cruel. Please, can anybody tell me what other options I have if purdue denies me. Im sure I can get dr to write me 30 mg oxycodne is there a mail order place that will fill it or help me in event purdue rejects my application. I'm upset. I think its terrible I lose my job and then get treated unfairly like I gained wealth because my family let me stay here; truth is Im very poor. If anybody has an idea to help me please help me! Im almost out of medicine I am stressed about how I may be affected. Isnt Obamacare for us
Amercians to insure we all get healthcare regardless of pre-existing condition or income. Help! I cant start new job if offered; uncertainty of this situation.

after reading your message it pretty much as the same experience that I have had in Florida. A sick person who need pain medicine and who has had all the required MRI eyes xraysand seeing a qualified Dr I have to drive everywhere to try and fill I haven't tried Walmart and they told me they didn't carry pain medicine I have heard every excuse from pharmacists I wish they would just be honest and say we don't want to fill pain medicine. my father is dying of bone cancer he is in the fourth stage and they give him morphine time release which causes him constipation. Also we have trouble getting him his pain medicine a 76 year old man who has worked all is life and now is dying of cancer there is no sympathy or empathy for Humanity to give relief to a dying patient because some whining parent had a spoiled child who overdosed. that child or teenager would overdose on something else if pain medicine wasn't available because there an addict and an addiction is a disease . why are people being punished who have all documentation to prove there pain yet are denied pain medicine relief? Even tooth aches now, adults have to suffer the pain! I hate pharmacys who r playing dr.

Big chain pharmacies have too many policies about filling these meds, the DEA can muscle these big stores like CVS- Walgreens, wal-mart, etc.. I go to a small pharmacy that is self owned, he does not have any problems. But many mom and pop pharmacies do not like keeping narcotics because of break ins... Plus I do not have insurance for medication so it is all cash which is much easier.... Here in Tennessee the eastern part of the state no pharmacies do not carry narcotics, in fact when I was doing mail order for my pain meds both Fed-ex and UPS both asked what part of TN I lived in because neither will send their delivery trucks to east TN to deliver pain meds... Middle and west TN.is okay but any area of TN, in the eastern time zone is off limits for fear of robberies in the mountains and all the back roads... I thought it was starnge too... But I don't live in that part so it did not effect my delivery....

I understand exactly what your mother has gone through in trying to fill her prescription. I take Oxycodone 15 milligrams now. My doctor started me on the 10mg. When I originally got the 10mg filled it took me 5 days to find a pharmacy that would fill, just a 10mg percocet. The Walgreens finally filled those. I was told to make sure you go to a pharmacy, near your home address, that's listed on your prescription or drivers license. They are most likely to fill if you gio to a pharmacy as close to your home as possible. But when I was increased to the 15mg. The Walgreens I had been using did not carry the 15mg. So the search was on again.
This time it took me 7 days after going to every pharmacy within a 60 mile radius.
Finally I filled at Walmart. Not Walgreens. It is truly aggravating, frustrating and a complete nightmare to go through this to fill a valid prescription, for valid reasons.
But unfortunately in the state of florida, we are all dealing with it now that the DEA has cut the supply. And that's exactly what the problem is. Along with the Pharmacist, and how they operate these days. I hope things get easier for your mother, and hope that some of this information will help in the future for you.
Maybe if she tries a Walmart near your home, she will have better luck. Or even one near her doctors office. They get their supply once a week, on Fridays, and I understand they all go by the same policy, first come first serve basis, so they are not allocated to certain patients, which should also make it easier to fill. Good Luck.

For the past 4 years, after a car accident, I have had no problem getting my medications filled by Publix pharmacy (120 Methadone and 84 Roxicodone 15mg). A new pharmacist came in to my neighborhood pharmacy and initially said "we have a limit and we will never have these meds for you anymore"; she did not look at my history with Publix to see that I was established as a customer for these particular medications. Well I went to the regional manager and explained the situation and he verified that she did have the number available in stock and told me to go back to the pharmacy and they would be filled (so she initially lied about there stock). Basically he called and told the new pharmacist to fill the rx's; of course, after I explained that 1) I had been filled for 4 years there and was actually part of the limit in the amount of pills that Publix could legally dispense for the month and 2) I explained that I was established with Publix pharmacy and did not feel I should have to go to other pharmacies for days on end trying to get the rx's filled and I did not want the database showing me filling at all different pharmacies. Well now about five months later, I was told by the pharmacist that this would be the last time she would fill my prescriptions because "there is a limit on the medications and they could not fill me anymore (same excuse as the first time she refused to fill me). Well now the regional manager is saying you need a non narcotic with a narcotic prescription, which is not a problem I will submit the Ibuprofren instead of taking an over the counter anti inflammatory. He also said "all other Publix's are just about at their limit with established patients" so, in other words, you can try another Publix but expect the answer to be negative. And lastly, the regional manager said he will not make the new pharmacist fill for me, he said "talk to the new pharmacist and see if she will fill now with the non narcotic." Well, she is telling me it is about the number of pills she can dispense, she is not saying I need a non narcotic with a narcotic rx and basically, this is the last time she is filling the prescriptions. This has put me in a bad situation since for the past four years I have been a loyal and established customer with Publix and other pharmacies can not or do not accept new customers with these prescriptions because they are at their limit. I really feel like they are discriminating and it is not fair to me. I was in a serious accident that affected my cervical and lumbar discs in the spine. I'm 47 years old, worked for an insurance company and as a Hearing Officer for 20 years and now I work 7 days a week part time (since I am semi retired) and I need the medication to be able to perform my daily work duties and activities of daily living. I am not a drug addict and feel that I have been singled out. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions. I am going to the corporate pharmacy director and explaining my situation and hope that she can help. Is there any other recourse that I have? I feel that I should be able to do whatever I can (and my doctor can do) to meet the new pharmacists requirements; but it seems she is just dead set against filling my scripts. Thanks to anyone that may have suggestions that will help me get Publix to do what is right for their customer.

I come from Orlando and their rule is you cannot fill your script out of your zip code area I wouldn't a certain rangeI don't know if that's a rule or not.it would be nice to have the ability to just go to the same pharmacy each month in status always being upset at having to go to multiple pharmacies and being told they are out of the medicine. On top of it the pain level that night, as well as all night and today has been excruciating at least a 10 on the pain scale so driving all around to pharmacies I am NOT physically able. I appreciate any help you offer I'm not sure how far Bradington is from Orlando?

I am in The Tampa area and I had to switch from Oxycodone to Hydrocodone a few months back bc of all the issues I was running into. Every pharmacy would tell me they didn't have it, couldn't take my RX and order it special for me, etc etc. Walgreens even told me once that the manufacturer wasn't making them for a period of time. Then it was that they were being limited on supplies. Either way, every month I was spending hours driving miles and miles (all w incredible back pain), just to try and find a place that would fill it. The very last time I filled it I took it to a Target Pharmacy and had to wait about 5 days for them to order it for me. All while suffering terrible withdraws :(

Finally on my next trip to my drs, I told him I couldn't go thru that stress anymore as it was now a monthly issue and he switched me to Norcos. Ever since then I have not had ONE issue! I really think it's all the stricter laws here in FL and the pharmacies just not wanting to deal w it anymore.

Even w taking the Norcos, I had a headache for a month straight. My dr said it was from the oxy leaving my body. But I'll tell you I feel a lot better and less "foggy" on these meds. Good luck Sarasota!!
