No registration is required and your identity remains anonymous.my Dr has suggested that I cut Fentanyl 12.5 patches in half to reduce dosage and eventually stop using them, I have been using them for about three years/3.5yrs But I am confused as the leaflet says not to cut them. I would like to stop using them and this has been his only advice. ## Hello, Dewi! How are you? It depends on the type of patch, it seems there are some that can be safely cut, but it would be best to ask your pharmacist, before doing so, to be sure. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## There are differnt types of patches some have a liquid dispencing method and would not ...
Pain relief for chronic spinal arthritis for opoid tolerant patient ## Hello, David! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. What opiates have you tried? Fentanyl may be an option, if you've exhausted the others. It's the most potent one available and is usually prescribed in a skin patch that is changed every 48 to 72 hours. It's an idea you could discuss with your doctor. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Thanks Version. Let me explain a little more about what has happened. I went through chemo for stage 3 lymphoma a year ago and since that time I have fractured 2 vertabrael in my spine. The firs...
I currently use 25mcg fentanyl patches along with oxycodone 15mg. Would I be ok to take a 2mg xanax without dying?? I should add that I rarely use any benzo. ## They can be taken together, if they've all been prescribed for you and approved by your doctor. However, you may experience more drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and sedation than usual, as reported by the FDA. You should also know to watch for any possible danger signs, such as severe drowsiness, dizziness, shallow breathing and lowered heart rate. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, I do have another question. First, I am not prescribed Xanax. Is it ok to mix Xanax and alcohol? A friend told me he took 4mg Xanax and a half pint of vodka and felt great. I've heard that mixing that much is fatal. So what's t...
I've been in PM for 8yrs and in that time I've only ever been to 3 clinics and never have I've been dismissed for anything other than insurance issues. Never broken any rules anywhere. I've been on fentanyl patches 150 all 8 years. My current clinic that I've been with for more than a year, all the sudden said I would be going way down on the patches. Their reason is health department guidelines and my MEDD score was too high. Told me the acceptable range for patients will not exceed 180. Their only reason was this MEDD score. After a year of giving me 150 all the sudden this. Is this just middle TN or are most pm doctors doing this? And if you have a Dr who isn't doing this, please let me know. I have great insurance and can go most anyplace. I'm now down to...
UpdatedWhat strength of fentanyl patch do I need to replace 100mgs of embeda pr day and 30mgs of oxicodone im pr day. ## Hello, Les! How are you? Approximately 78micrograms, I believe the closest Fentanyl patch dose to this would be the 75microgram one. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Basically Morphine is the standard by which all others are judged. The conversion is for every 60mg of Morphin is equally to 25 mcg of fentany. Hope that helps.

Is this fentanyl medicine dangerous or safe? Please advise me immediately. ## It would be helpful to you I believe to read the other discussions on fentanyl. Especially the fentanyl withdrawal post. Good luck to you. ## Whether or not any mediation helps anyone can only be discovered by trying. When speaking of Fentanyl, it is a very strong narcotic pain medication, as such, yes, it can be dangerous. It can also cause side effects such as nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. Read more: Do you have any other questions? ## Verwon, If you are talking to me I would like to thank you. I don't want to take something that will get me knocked out. I just want my chronic pain to ease up. It did work with the oc's but when they changed them I was surprised how I was going throu...
I never took any pain meds before my accident. After the accident and surgeries I found that I was allergic to most pain medications and did not find relief from any of them. My pain clinic docs put me on 150mcg of Fentanyl Patch with leaves me in horrible pain. My docs dont believe me when I tell them I am still in pain, and say that this is the best med they have for me and there is nothing else. They say that I am taking the highest dose recommended. I am allergic to the glue on the patch and most tapes, tegaderm causes more blisters around the edges of the patch also. The only way I can stand having the patch on and not ruin my skin is to take it off for a while and move it to a different location. I also have dilaudid 4mg for breakthrough pain along with gabapentin and tzanidine fo...
My moms box of 25 mcg/hr fentanyl patches accidentally fell off shelf and my 10 pound dog got it and chewed it up into pieces. There were 4 three day patches in the box not sure how much she ingested. But she is asleep and breathing very shallow can't get her to stay awake . can this kill her. ## Yes it can kill her. Take her to the vet immediately !!!!! This is so serious if she even were to just lick one patch it could kill her. 10lbs is little. Please take her to the dr ASAP!!!!
I have fentanyl patches that expired in 2011. Can you still use them? Are they dangerous or just loose there potency? ## Hello, Jaebeau! How are you? They lose potency, being several years expired, they are not likely to be very effective now and you should just dispose of them. It would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription, if needed. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?
I was prescribed fentanyl patches in May of 2010. I never opened them, and want to know if they would still be good. ## What's the expiration date on them? Fentanyl is a narcotic and it doesn't become dangerous if it is old or expired, but it can lose effectiveness and since the patches are made with a type of gel, it might have started to solidify a little, which means you would absorb less of the medication. Common side effects to these may include: nausea, drowsiness, constipation and dizziness. Learn more: ## I have fentanyl 50 mcg. Patch That are 2 yrs expired and was wondering if they will still be as potent as intended ,they are not the gel btw.. ## I get 10 mcg/hour butrans patches from my dr. How many mg is that an hour?

Have A vascular necrosis in femur bones, have R.A., herneadid disc. ## I broke my neck in 2012 and I'm looking for a doctor if it's in Philly. I have insurance if you can help me {edited for privacy}
I just got blood test results showing elevated liver ensymes. I take percodan 10/325 3xday. I also take fentanyl patch 25 every 48 hours. What meds could replace these in reguards to the elevated liver enzymes ? ## Hello, Trish! How are you? The elevated enzymes are most likely caused by the oral medication, not the patch, since it isn't processed directly through the liver. There are formulations of Oxycodone available without anything else added that your doctor can prescribe, so it won't have as much of an impact on your liver as the Percodan does. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How high are your enzymes levels? ## My alt is 46 and ast is 5...
My husband was just told by his doctors office that there is a new process for getting his patches. They are telling him that he can no longer pick up the triplicate form, but they have to send it to the pharmacy via ups. The pharmacy is a quarter mile away, this seems rather extreme. Anyone else have this issue?
UpdatedI am recovering from necrotizing pancreatitis with a large pseudo-cyst. The cyst is rather large and is putting considerable pressure on internal organs, but the doctor wants to take a slow approach at draining. As part of pain management upon leaving the hospital, I was prescribed 50 mcg/hr pain patch. Unfortunately he will not refill the prescription. I'm curious if there is a doctor who will prescribe at least 25 mcg/hr patch. ## Need DR. to help me with back pain and pain in both knees
My doctor will not refill my oxymoron or my fentanyl patches because of a pending drug charge. I have been on them for years. How can they just stop them? If I go to another doctor will it be in my medical records? I thought you were innocent until proven guilty. ## Hello, Justice! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having. Your doctor can stop prescribing anything, at any time, for any reason. Unless you are in immediate life-threatening danger, they are under no obligation to treat you, prescribe anything, or keep you on as a patient, just the same as you are not obligated to keep seeing any particular doctor or take any prescribed medication, except for rare cases of being under court order. Yes, it will be noted in your medical records for all medical profe...
I was on hydrocodone, xanax, soma and I was given a fentanyl patch 100mcg due to a fall. It damn near killed me. Because of sheer stupidity, I cut this patch and took a minuscule amount of the gel, evidently an extreme amount went into my system. My nurse at the time (I actually had a HH RN) was there 30 minutes after I took it, I was having chest pain, was very confused. And a ROOKIE paramedic gave me Morphine! 4mg IV push was added to the prior "recipe/concoction" and it through me in to SEVERE Respiratory Depression. I was breathing 6RPM in less than a 7 minute ride to the ER / unconscious of course; and a Nurse Practitioner in her infinite wisdom without looking at my med list, or seeing I was taking medication for chronic pain gave me Narcan which could have put me in full ...
Updatedhow long will fentanyl stay detectable in a urine screen?I have take one in 9 days. ## Like most other narcotics, it is usually detectable for approximately 5 days, after use, though there is no exact time frame. There are other individuating factors that come into play, which can have an effect on it, such as your individual metabolism, overall health, activity levels, fluid intake and etc. If you have a prescription for it, then you just need to inform them of this, when you go in for testing. Learn more: Is there anything else I can help with? ## how long does fentanl sublingual spray stay in your system ## I had a shot at the hospital of fentanyl. 100Mg how does it lasts.
I am new to fentanyl treatment but no stranger to narcotic treatment for severe sciatica in my left leg. I was prescribed the 12.5mcg and the pharmacy gave me the Mylan 12mcg. My first patch didn't do anything for over 6 hrs. so I put another one on. Took a hot shower, went to bed and woke up the next morning pain free for the first time in a VERY long time. Since I was only given 5 patches to last me 2 weeks, I was wondering how long they really last. I've heard that there's actually enough fentanyl in each patch to last 7 days. Is this really ture?? ## Hello, Dewy5150! How are you? You really shouldn't take a hot shower or be exposed to much heat, while wearing the patch, it tends to make it release faster, which could result in overdose. The FDA classifies this medica...
This is my 1st post ever, anywhere. I am trying to get off Fentanyl. 7 years ago I was Rx'ed 25 mcg patches every 72 hrs. Went to every 48 hrs within a month. Went to a 50 every 48 to a 75 every 48 to the 100 mcg every 48 hrs.. Been on 100 mcg's (48 hrs) for several years now and I'm sick and tired of taking the patch. I have DDD, two failed rotator cuff surgeries as well as an elbow surgery (pain). The shoulder and back pain is the worst. I'm 52 years old, worked a steady job with Ma Bell as a lineman 25 years and wore my body out. Three weeks ago I started cutting my Mylan brand 100 mcgh patches in half. So far so good. I did notice that I started taking more of the Dilauid I'm rx'ed for breakthrough pain. My plan is to keep cutting the patches in half till I...
