Extreme Fatique, Joint Pain, Muscle Weakness With Eliquis For Afib (Page 2)
UpdatedI was having extreme fatigue, joint pain, muscle weakness after starting Eliquis and started to having black stool with nausea and abdominal pain. I gradually reduced the dose until no longer taking Eliquis nor ever will. It really put a fear in me. Asprin works for me via my AFIB. I can tell if my blood is too thick when my heart is working hard to pump the blood out of my heart. I feel much better when my heart is pumping normally when the blood is thinner. You sometimes have to insist to your doctor the side effects you are feeling, this is a fairly new medication. Anyone else have these side effects?
I just posted in another thread about this very issue, and yes.. I'm bedridden now. Can't drive, can't cook, can't walk, can't stand to take a shower, nausea, severe pain in neck, upper body, arms, shoulders, so weak I need help walking or doing anything. And I've only just scratched the surface here. Going to call my cardiologist about getting the Watchman device so I can come off Eliquis and stay off. I was put on due to AFib, Atrial Flutter, and SVT (the last I'd had my entire life) and a TIA in 2013. My life is basically ruined and with NO quality of life whatsoever.
Eliquis is a scary drug. Be sure to contact the manufacturer and report your symptoms because that's the ONLY way they will take notice and let doctors know what the risks actually are. They also have to report the complaints to the FDA which may help in the long run as the FDA will be forced to report these issues to the public eventually.
Oh, I've been on Eliquis for about 2 years now and was, prior to taking it, a very active person who was still able to work, take care of myself, drive, walk, etc. I can no longer work.
I was on Eliquis for almost 3 months. Think I slept at least 2/3 of the day because it kept me awake most of the night. Very bad bone pain especially from hips down both legs. Gained weight also, seemed to crave food even when not hungry. Headaches. All I wanted to do was curl up in a ball. No energy. Would begin to feel a little better as morning dose would start to wear off but then I would take second dose and curl up again. Also caused my stomach to hurt and I had trouble with BP and pulse increase. Dr took me off about a week now, beginning to feel human again. Not sleeping all day, have more energy. BP and pulse still elevating but feel so much better as the days pass. Hated that medication and the way it made me feel. It did what it was supposed to do I guess but so glad I'm not taking it anymore.
NO INR FOR ELIQUIS IT IS NOT REQUIRED HOWEVER ONCE A YEAR A BLOOD SAMPLE FOR YOUR RENAL FUNCTION IS TAKEN
I have been on Eliquis for about 3 weeks, after not being able to take, Xarelto, pradaxa or warfarin. I have Afib, have had 2 Ablation surgeries done. The Eliquis is causing me severe fatigue, Nausea, and diarrhea. Muscle pain, but unfortunately I still have to take it. However i do believe that an Aspirin every day would work just as well
I had an Ablation done last month, they tried me on Xarelto and i could not tolerate it so i was put on Eliquis, been on it over a month. Side effects are muscle sorness,, muscles weak. Insomnia, going to the bathroom a lot. But i hope i will be took off of it this week. Don't never want to take another blood thinner
I tried Eliquis for two weeks and it was awful for me. I normally have no side effects with drugs, but this one gave me nausea, tiredness and joint pain. I went off of it four days ago and I feel much better today. It made my tongue feel weird and I had kind of a metallic taste, little appetite, in general felt strange. After my double knee surgery three years ago I had to inject a blood thinner every day for 60 days. There was no problem with stopping it cold. I am going to fight my doctor on having to take a blood thinner. If God has planned that I will die of a stroke, then nothing I can do in myself is going to change it. I take my other mess no problem but I am a point now that enough is enough!
I have been on elequis for two months and have had chronic muscle and joint pain. My whole body felt stiff. I am an avid golfer and after 9 holes I can hardley lift my legs to walk. I have experimented and gone off the drug for a couple of days and feel normal. I am now getting pains in my neck and pain in my jaw joints to the degree of difficulties in opening my mouth. Feel like flu symptoms. I stopped taking flecanide thinking this was the problem - this may have only increased the problem with the elequis. My doctor was not in favour of going back to aspirin . Still searching for a solution. I am 64 relative fit and did play 18 holes golf 4 days per week now struggle to play 9 holes once per week
Yes my husband is experiencing fatigue and sleepiness
I red your problems with ELIQUIS and I can tell you this is not in your head.
This drug was given to me just about 2 years ago for Atrial Fibrillation despite a cardiologist telling me my Carotid Arterial scan,Echo Cardiogram and 24 hour tapesx2 all fine.
G.P. thought it a good idea to prevent a stroke BUT I really wish I had never started on it especially since I suffer from Osteoarthritis with Spinal Stenosis Now Ive severe palpitations which I never ever had.!
Recently travelled abroad and I think there was an adverse reaction with this drug and the heat temperatures of 34-36 which have never bothered me before now back in this country[u.k.] it has settled down.
Always remember your time difference if you travel take it the same times you take it at home or you will mess it up.
I have severe joint pain hands knees and spine is worse on it.I also urinate much more and it seems to act as a diuretic for some reason.
Doctor who started it WILL NOT take me off it as she doesn't want me to have a stroke.
PLEASE never stop this medication by yourself and do Not take any n.a.i.s d like brufen. You must come off it gradually its a very dangerous drug and there is NO antidote unlike Warfrin .
78 year old man on Eliquis for two years. The only side effect so far is the drain on my wallet. Physician samples given to me by my EP help some, but when I am in the doughnut hold it costs over $400 for a 90 day supply. My EP still insists I remain on a blood thinner, saying "If you have an accident and bleed a lot, we can always give you more blood. However, we cannot give you a new brain if you have a stroke....so remain on the blood thinner". Pretty convincing argument to me.
I also have the knee, back and leg pains in my field I have to keep moving do ANYONE knows what can I do
Very weak legs, muscle soreness, and gout. I have not had gout in six years. Started taking Eliquis 9 weeks ago and I have had 6 episodes of gout. I changed my diet 10 years ago and watch what I eat. I have lost 24 lbs in the last 9 weeks because of gout. In severe pain I don't want food. Went to a rumatologist for second opinion. Waste of time and money, wouldn't listen to anything I had to say just wanted to give me prednisone to mask an already existing problem. Saw my main Dr. same day he refuses to take me off this drug for Afib. He did EKG really normal rythym. I see my cardiologist on Dec 5th let's see what he will do. I am so upset that the doctors refuse to listen that there are problems with drugs. They shrug it off as all drugs have side effects.
I have been on Eloquis for 6 months. I am also experiencing extrem leg and shoulder pains. It has become debilitating. I am always drained, or in pain. It is usually worse in the morning and night. It also flares up when weather gets cold or rainy. I am miserable.
After a DVT lower right leg I was put on Warfarin for 12 months, no problems or side effects except bruising. Haematologist decided to take me off warfarin and put me on Elelquis 2.5m twice a day. To come back in 2 months, but he would ring me after a week to see how I was handling it. Two weeks passed, no word so I rang tha hospital with my concerns over the unbearable side effects . They said he would ring me back, no word, so. I decided to put up with these problems as the rash all over my body started to get lighter. The other symptoms of continual headache everyday, unbearable pain in my legs and back, tightness over chest, cold symptoms and bronchitis, bloating stomach, joint pain inmost joints never had before, blurred vision, dissiness, large bruising, exhaustion especially after midday, can hardly walk or move. Seeing specialist tomorrow, hope I live till then. Never will I take another Equilis tablet. Female 73 years old. Rosy
Just saw my e-mails and thought I would reply. AS you will see I've written about this terrible drug before and I am 66 and feel really bad although I cant or shouldn't as I have an 94 year old mother to look after. I suffer bad back problems Spinal Stenosis not caused by this drug but the hand pain and feet are. Tinnitus is really bad and I cant sleep for the effects of this drug with sweat pouring off me. Headaches like toothache all over. What I am angry about you never get any updates from this company I would have thought by now the Yellow Card System would have started to ring alarm bells. It's all very well doctors starting you on this medication to prevent a stroke I never showed any symptoms accept I did suffer Atrial Fibrillation the dose I take is 5mgs twice daily so you can thank your lucky stars you are not on that. I.B.S was always an issue with me but it was now and again now its almost every day pain discomfort bloating really terrible. I still wish I had never started it. One thing is I cant understand why they wanted you back at the clinic because there is no need for you to go G.P once a year does Renal Function and if that's all o.k. that's you. Good luck.
I have persistant AFIB. Since taking elequis I have numb feet, muscle wasting of my arms. Cant use arms for lifting. Tired all the time. Depression is worse. Hopeless feelings. Coumadin and pradaxa was similar.
I was taken off Eliquis after 2 months and put on Aspirin by my haematologist. after 24 hours the terrible side effects were almost gone. He said he had over 100 patients on this drug and had never had any experience these symptoms and was about to send me to emergency department as he thought there was other problems underlying. I insisted I had heart monitoring recently with perfect results. Kidney Ct Scan all perfect, he sent me for a Ct scan of lungs, all perfect. As we can see by all these reviews on the Internet, we are not the only ones experiencing the debilitating side effects that make you feel 20 years older instantly with pain and weekness all over. We can't change these doctors and pharmaceutical companies "spill" but we can listen to our bodies that tell us something's not right and fight for change and we are not made to feel like we are imagining things. I feel normal again, full of energy, enjoying life.
I've now been on Eliquis,5mg, twice a day for 2 months. Have been fatigued, tired, sleepy since day one. Struggle to do routine things. Xmas was exhausting and didn't get much done. Doubt this is a coincidence. Lots of coffee, pot/day, maybe helps a little. Hoping the flutter goes away so I can get normal again. So many things to do
So many horror stories - I just recently started reading these messages. First of all it was difficult to find the pages - however, I wish people, who take the time to share their thoughts and experiences, would also be aware that specifics are very important - such as your age, what kind of afib you have, and how long you've had it. I was told sept. 1st, 2016, by a cardiologist who took my ekg, that I had Afib, my blood pressure was reading pretty high averaging about (150/89) and I was experiencing pretty heavy anxiety and felt I could feel my heart pumping also seemed more tired than usual. He immediately recommended I take the drugs eliquis and metoprolol which I have not done yet. I am trying to get as much info as possible in order to take the step every active brain cell tells me not to. I'm 84 yrs young, active, have an irregular heart beat with no valve problems. I immediately cut down on salt intake - that helped, I started being faithful to taking vitamin supplements, cut down considerately on eating meat and sugar, started taking one small aspirin a day (thinking of adding another) going to try to use the blood thinning naturals that have been written in messages e.g. ginger, red pepper, pom juice. Also taking walks up to an hour and doing arm and leg exercises daily. These past 3 months gradually I'm feeling normal, yet get a little winded, but the anxiety has diminished considerably as has the feeling of my heart pumping, and my blood pressure has come down averaging 139/82. I have to change my insurance from Brown and Towland to Kaiser Perm so I'll be seeing a group of very new doctors in a completely different setting; they're all in one place and exchange info with one another which seems like a plus for the patient - what say you?
Thank you! I now know why I have painful neuropathy in my feet (no doabetes) and my legs are so weak I can barely walk. Plus the muscle tone in my arms is gone. They are now Just weak wrinkled skin covered bones with weak hands. Its the eliquis. I'm surprised I dont have dementia. Maybe I do and dont know it yet. :(
