Eliquis And Weight: I Need The Truth (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedToday I am speaking with my hemotologist about switching from Xarelto to Eliquis. Xarelto has caused me, a runner with a very slim diet, to gain almost 14 pounds in 4 weeks. 7 of those pounds in the last two weeks.
I need to know of any serious weight gain issues with Eliquis. Doctors always swear that the side effects listed are the only ones but I was never told by my doctor nor the literature that Xarelto causes abnormal weight gain either. Google had to tell me that after yesterday's terrible weigh-in. I'm looking for absolute candor. I am 34 and female and I'd be taking it for PE.
Thanks.
I have gained massive amounts of weight on Eliquis and Incant lose it.
I am not a runner but I have been working out at the gym and managing calorie/carb,fat intake for 2 years. I lost 50 pounds. I have been on Eliquis 1 month and have gained 7 pounds. There is no other explanation for this weight gain other than I started taking Eliquis. Very distressing.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
I was 118 lbs when my hematologist put me on Eliquis. I gained weight immediately, eating the same food I have always eaten. No fast food, fried food, bread, desserts, healthy meals. In no time I put on 30 with Eliquis I have tried everything and can not lose weight. Many people have complained to me about the same problem. You might have joint pain and fatigue also
I totally agree. I switched to eliquis today for the same reasons. I gained a lot of weight on xarelto, felt fatigued and had chest pains. My gums started to also bleed.
Xarelto was almost like a death sentence for me but it helped my sister tremendously,. I asked the hematologist to switch me and he would not (I'm assuming they get kickbacks for the prescriptions written but do not know). I finally tossed out the Xarelto and asked for a new option. The office secretary told me that both hematologists suggested that I continue taking Xarelto. I was totally ignored so I went without a blood thinner until my next prescription came due and continued it (Because I had a PE and could feel the damage it was doing). Finally, I found a PCP who listened to my issues (but didn't record them as a problem only 'swelling' when it was so much more--swelling, cognitive issues, falling, seeing flashes of light, slow heartbeat, etc. etc.) and I started on Eliquis. While I haven't had any problems with any of the aforementioned, I suspect the 35 pound weight gain is attributed to Eliquis. I now have a DVT so once that is over, I plan to stop all medication b/c no one will listen here. Weight gain is a nonissue to the doctors in this area. I've cried, pleaded, and now I'm just out of options. I can't gain any additional weight because it is ruining my life and health. With that said, Eliquis is a godsend as long as you don't have a weight problem to begin with.
I have been on Eliquis for 9 months for a DVT.
I have gained 30lbs. I started the gym, only 2-3 days a week. I admit that my diet was not the best, but I did not gain weigh like this before taking Eliquis. I like being safe and healthy but I can't wait to get off the meds.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
i am on eliquis and have noticed weight gain and thickening of my legs and stomach. I have gained 6 lbs in 1 month. It also messes with your blood sugars and I am a type 2 diabetic. Unacceptable. Coming off this stuff asap !
I lost 165 pounds easily in one year and kept it off. I am intune woh my body and I know what works and what doesn’t. I developed a blood clot and was put on Eliquis. I gained 30 pounds, I was angry, couldn’t sleep, my life was turned upnsode down. I told my doctor I would die of a blood clot than live on blood thinners. I’ve been off thinners for 3 months, lost 20 pounds, and I feel like myself again.
Multiple doctors have told me “I’ve never heard that happening before” so maybe I’m an annomy but that was my reality for a year.
Re: Mike (# 62)
I lost 165 pounds with ease and kept it off. I developed a blood clot and went on Eliquis andngained weight and could not lose it. I went off it in November and I’m down 15 pounds or so! It’s the blood thinner!
Re: Ellie (# 9)
I have been taking Eliquis since Oct 2017 and I have been to so many drs and blood tests to find out why I am so fatiqued and tired. No one has the answer. I beleive it is the eliquis. I will see my dr who proscribed it to me on the 18 of March . I am stopping the drug for 2 weeks to see if this tireness goes away.
Re: Mike (# 62)
Yes I lost 12 pounds after I went off it. It took about 6 weeks and I changed nothing other than quitting the drug.
Re: Linda (# 72)
I went off it and slowly lost most of the weight. But still have a few lingering. Very frustrating.
Good luck to you!
Got almost 40’pds off me & my
Husband beck in early 2019 with low
Carb/keto ,we both felt absolutely
Amazing. And then stick to a healthy low carb lifestyle. As well walking about 4 to 6 miles a day .
BUT , by the end of 2019 into 2020 found out I have an estranged brother through dna testing and found out quickly they battled addiction , which rattled my
Nerves . Then, the pandemic hit, and that really rattled my
Nerves . So I was a bundle of
Nerves so bad, I had an AFib issue & ended up in the ER .
After that first episode ,Instead of just adjusting my metoprolol I was already taking , they added Eliquis, and “yep” , gained back all that weight I lost and then some!
Physically , I cannot lose it. It’s got me so depressed, and stress is my
AFib culprit,
No matter what I say to my
Cardiologist, she argues it .
I even called the maker of Eliquis & told them how many people are gaining weight , they I assume are getting phone calls but due to privacy wouldn’t tell me of true or not ? , which is not good for anyone’ to gain more than 30+ pds , Let
alone someone who has high stress levels & can have AFib episodes.
I feel like a huge balloon, my stomach is swollen , my left leg swells all the time now and I’m flat out miserable.
Last phone convo with my cardio she said I had to take something because I’ve had a few AFib Moments & offered Xelatro to try , which I haven’t done because I don’t want to be on any of them at all !
There are steroidal properties in Eliquis, which can make you
Gain weight let alone increase of appetite.
I seriously suggest anyone to call the company on your Eliquis bottle and complain about the weight gain, it’s just not good for anyone to be gaining too much weight, let Alone from their product, and needs to be Added to the side effects For Eliquis!
I see my cardio in person tomorrow, sure she will give me static about not wanting to Take any of this crap .
Anyone also have odd fevers or hot moments from it btw ???
(It Could be that I’m a heffer now carrying all this extra weight) ??
I also wanted to add that there is no way to know how any given person will react to any given medication, so there is still a chance you may gain weight, but it's not something normally expected, as listed by the FDA.
Are there any other side effects you'd like to know more about?
Should I be concerned about loss of appetite while taking Eliquis
I have stopped taking it but cannot lose the weight either! Both of my Drs do not believe that it was the cause of weight gain. Claiming weight LOSS is a side effect, not gain.
Yes, there is a lot of weight gain with Eliquis. I have gained 12 lbs after 2 months on Eliquis.
My husband has been on Eliquis since April 2017 and has lost 38 lbs.
Re: Vickie (# 33)
I am so very sorry Vickie! :(
I have learned the hard way not to trust most medicines.... but not as hard as you. Thank you for sharing this.
