Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 10)
UpdatedI have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)
I take Tylenol #3 for my pain. Lyrica did a number on me. Because of Lyrica I lost my job in 2007. I still have short term memory loss.
I was on Lyrica for about six months. It was really great for nerve pain (neck in may case), but your comments sound similar to my situation on the drug: bad recall, confusion when talking, forgetful, etc. I felt 'brain-damaged' almost, so the memory issues worried more than the pain. I therefore went off Lyrica and had to double my Targin instead. I'm in more pain, no doubt, and it took another two or there months for my memory to gradually right itself. I won't touch Lyrica again. To me, it became genuinely disturbing. All the best with your treatment.
You don't have to suffer from dry mouth. I did some research and came up with pilocarpine. I had 30 small cavities in less than 3 months! This was not acceptable. Neither my doctor nor my dentist knew about this medicine. My Dr. Rx'd it for me and no more dry mouth!!
As to memory --- first I lost all my nouns; then I lost most of the rest. I was heart broken; I thought I was going to be institutionalized! I was 62 years old, I was slurring my words because of dry mouth -- and I could not remember what to call anything or the name of anyone. I was scared.
Amen to that. I wasn't on it very long, maybe a couple of month and my short term memory is still home and it's been 7 years.!!!!
I have been on LYRICA (150 mg.) for some time. Recently I have increased my intake to 300 mg. per day. I have experienced a noticeable loss of memory, especially names and even common terms in the last year. As I am almost 80, I was attributing this to age or even feared I was get altzheimer's. I recently had a routine medical visit and the doctor told me that the memory loss might be caused by the Lyrica. He suggested that I take my 300 mg. at night (I was taking it both night and morning) and I now notice a significant improvement in my memory, both short and long-term. In addition I am far less drowsy. What a relief!
Hi Graham , over the six months you were on Lyrica , what dose were you on ? just interested in doing a comparison .
I have been on Lyrica 75mg twice a day. Then I went to Lyrica 150mg twice a day, almost imediately the weight went on around the middle of my stomach and the pain factor seem higher> the short term memory is bad I can not remember names of people that I know very well. scarry the thought that this might not reverse itself.
Hi Jan , good luck , my son has not had lyrica for 4 years is 21 years of age and is still waiting for his lyrica symptoms to wear off ..
Yes. I have been taking lyrica for nerve pain in my neck (degenerative disk ldisease). I also have rheumatod arthritis. The nerve pain was having a huge impct on my life and the lyrica helps a great deal at 150mg/day, but it has an effect on my memory, and loss of vocabulary, but i could live with it.
At 300mg/day i was... dumb.
That, and a falling risk when i was walking.
I live with chronic pain, and lyrica clearly does not solve all of my pain problems, it sure helps with the awful nerve pain from my neck.
Yes I have only been on it a while and have found it makes me forget as well . Help ???
I was on Lyrica for only a few months back in 2006. I still have trouble with my memory, especially short term memory. I also still have trouble with my vocabulary. Sometimes I want to say something by I can't. Its in my brain what I want to say not I can't get it out.
My Son was a brilliant student with a very sharp memory and since he took Lyrica has a real learning disability , i watch him struggle every day and there is no improvement in time , Lyrica is a dumbing down drug and causes permanent brain damage , lyrica has really hurt my son and our family , medicines are meant to help not do irreversible harm like this stuff does .
Well I had a meal Chinese with 2 shorts made me on such a high it's unreal .landedup witha upset tummy .i will stay on them till I get to the docters next week or ring and speak too my docter as he will try me on something else good luck folk out there and happy xmas too all life is hard .
Yep I have put on a little round tummy I think when you take this drug you need to watch what you put in your mouth .or you will put on the weight .i have leg and back and foot problem .this is good for pain I won't stay on it I take it every other night it's like you are on a drug all day the next day as well hope that is of some help .!!!!!
Where did you hear that it caused permanent memory loss? I take Lyrica for peripheral neuropathy caused by statin drugs, a side effect that is being talked about more now. I try to keep my dose as low as possible. 50 mg around 3 in the afternoon and 100 mg at bedtime. Sometimes I need to take another 50 mg during the night and it help hold me til the afternoon. Problem is that once the pain starts it is hard to get relief and need a higher dose. Had been given 100 mg three times a day. Asked my pharmacist and doctor if the Lyrica made any permanent changes in my brain and they both said they "didn't think so". I have trouble recalling words, and do forget where I put things, etc. I know it is medication related. I will use an opposing word sometimes and need more time to think to ask questions. Everyone seems to be going at top speed and I feel rushed and pressured cause I need more time to process information.
Hi Judith, before my son started Lyrica he was an A student especially in Mathematics , science and could write brilliant essays, he was half way through his 2nd last year of high school so the work was already getting difficult and full on but thrived under the pressure until he was given Lyrica 75 mg x 4 per day by DR Terrence lim for persistent whiplash pain following a automobile accident the previous year , the transformation was nearly instant as it inhibited his ability to think at complex levels and gave him an anxiety disorder that he had no sign of prior to Lyrica . My Son has not had a dose for over 4.5 years and still suffers from the side effects , is nearly 22 years of age and way behind his peer of whom he was the better student , the effects of Lyrica just don't wear off and others on this site have vouched to that fact, therefore i can only conclude that Lyrica causes permanent brain damage despite what the experts say ..
Oh well that's good too here .but I haven't taken it because I feel what it does no. Way .i spoke with a lady who works in the chemist and she said to me she had to take it for pain short term for one night that was it .she said she was with the fairys for 2 days not good. This needs to be taken off the market . I have put ine in the bin .
I have been on Lyrica for over 3 years. Your body does adjust and you go back to feeling normal again. However, With that said I suffer more from memory lost, losing my words in mid conversation etc. That has gotton worse lately and has not gone away. But what do you do have pain? I can't take gabupintin. What is left we all say. I asked my doc about it. The reply I received was. Do you want a little memory loss or do you want pain. It is a very hard decsion to make. But I am starting to wonder is it worth not remembering to do things and missing or cannot think clearly or your words.
I've been taking a daily dose of 600mg lyrica for 5 months and I quickly noticed how it plays havoc with memory. I felt like a mumbling, bumbling fool for a long time. My English has always been relatively good but I noticed how I was forgetting words mid-sentence, which became embarrassing.
On a lighter note, lyrica has helped me to be more passive. It could prove to be a great treatment for people with anger issues.
There are other pain meds out there. Tylenol#3 works for me. There is vicodan. Sure they are all opiates but they relieve pain and you don't lose your memory. Doctors get kickbacks from the drug companies for them to prescribe their drug. Do you think they want to give up that money?
