Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 9)

Updated

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)

I understand what you say, thinking those signs were just in my head. The nerve pain can be so hard to bear, but my Lyrica in moderate dosage over just a few months (added to my fairly high Targin dose) has made me mentally older, 'stupider', than I should be. The unrelenting pain forced my early retirement from senior (and enthusiastic) teaching roles. Are there any other drugs that are safer to our brain for these severe spinal nerve problems?

Lyrica destroys nerves in diabetic neuropathy. What is it doing to our brains?

I have had memory loss since 2006 when I stopped taking the drug. It is known that lyrica destroys nerves in diabetic neuropathy. What is the brain composed of? Nerves!

Don't feel bad. I've been off lyrica for 8 years etternow. and I am having the same problem.except I am only taking 2 courses. I wish my doctor had never prescribed it for my arthritis pain. Tylenol 3 is helping my pain better than lyrica ever did.

Nick, I do wish we could all get together and, at the very least, make sure EVERYONE who takes this drug knows what it can do to one's memory!! Please, if there is ever a legal suit I would like to know about it. I did not know that my memory issues were tied to the use of Lyrica- I do hope my memory improves. I also pray that God heals your son-please remind him that he is still a very valuable and competent man, despite his loss. God bless you both!

The memory loss never goes away and the higher the dosage the worse it gets
Stop the drug and refuse any increase in dosage. This drug lyrica will destroy a lot of your neurons and nerves in your brain. This is a drug that never should have been put on the market!!!! Stop taking the drug. There are other drugs that can help your pain. Tylenol #3 works for me
If the doctor won't change your drug, change doctors. Destroying your brain is not worth it
Read the previous blogs and find out what that drug is really going to do to you

Mary Rose, thank you for your note. I stopped taking Lyrica - it's been 36 hours- and even though my legs hurt a lot it is better than losing my ability to think! Already I feel brighter and more able to say what I am thinking. I didnt sleep as well as one doefs when taking Lyrica (smile)- but again, it feels good to be doing something that is good for me. I've had very good doctors- but I have also learned that they can't appreciate the side affects given that they likely don't take the medication. It is always best to listen to one's own body. Again, thank you to everyone who posts on this site!

I have been off lyrica for about 8 years now, and I still am suffering from memory loss and concentration problems.
I wanted to go to the grocery store today. I must gave driven past it almost 5 times until I finally managed to get into the parking lot and then must have driven past the store a few times before I finally realized where the store was. THANK YOU LYRICA!!!?

I am so glad to hear other people saying this. I have had the very same results from Lyrica. I lose my vocabulary and cannot remember people's names I have known all my life. It really helps with my pain and I am no longer on narcotics. However, I did not experience any side effects from the narcotics. No lose of memory or anything.

You need to bring your prescription dosage back down before you have permanent memory loss. Trust me, I'm still dealing with horrendous memory issues years later. And that word loss doesn't go away easily either. Pretty soon you will start falling asleep in mid-conversation. I'm actually thinking about a legal suit as I can barely remember what people tell me or what I read. And don't drink alcohol with it - you'll black out while you're wide awake and never know it. With one beer, I blacked out, drove my girls home, and the next day, never even remembered where I was the day before after having that beer.

I am from singapore. Count me in for the legal suit if there is. My father got the same memory loss after the doctor told me to increase his 25mg daily for the past one year to 50mg in the morning and 75mg evening. Walou just 2 weeks. His memory had a drastic change. I feel the lyrica the possible cause. And stop totally gradually within a week on my own accord. It been 5 days now and praying hard for his memory back to normal. I agreed Lyrica should never be allow for consumption.

Seems that who ever uses Lyrica has the same or similar range of permanent symptoms , this drug really causes irreversible , permanent brain changes or brain damage , my son has not improved after 4 years of stopping lyrica and is only 21 years of age, also the dosage can be relatively low and still cause permanent damage , lyrica is still actively promoted by Pfyzer as though nothing bad has happened to any one , surely Pfyzer is aware of what they are doing but don't care ....

I have been on Lyrica and Cymbalta initially for the peripheral neuropathy pain caused by Mevacor made by Merck. The side effects woke me up at night with muscle spasms or cramps and I had to stretch my extremeties out to go back to sleep. Then couldn't open a door due to nerve pain. Thus Lyrica. I was incompetent. Spent most of the day sleeping and gaining weight. Two ADT men came to my house and cut my wires to my wired security system, then sold me the contacts that stick with double sided tape for $5000. (Fortunately laws in NM give three days after signing contracts with home salesmen.) They were in my home until 10 pm. So I was dysfunctional and making serious bad decisions. Was on Lyrica 100 mg. three times a day. I quit the Cymbalta cold turkey after the ADT incident. And tried gabapentin which wasn't as effective. Am now on 50 mg of Lyrica twice a day and 100 mg at night to control pain with hydrocodone smallest dose available. I have memory problems and forget if I took the medication or not and had to use a mediset. I forget my train of thought and have a hard time getting organized after a move last November. Still cannot get my paperwork into the files in order. I asked a pharmacist last winter and my internal physician during that time if Lyrica can make permanent changes to the functioning of the brain. They said it is not in the literature.

I am beginning to feel that it is likely because I am not better with smaller dose. My speech sounds slurred at times and slow as if I am drunk, but am drugged with prescription pain medication. There are other methods of pain control but I do not want my feet totally numb since I would not feel an serious injury. I still have some feeling in my feet but my toes are numb, and I have stepped on a heavy thorn that went through my clog into my foot but did not feel it. Saw my sock was stained with blood. Lyrica side effects should be labeled with a warning if it can make permanent changes in the brain function.
There companies know about side effects but don't want to lose customers. My statin drug company knew it could cause peripheral neuropathy but kept it from the public. If they hold back information intentionally they lose the time line for legal suits. Might still have a claim, but will still have the neuropathy, and this is not how I wanted to spend my retirement.

Drop your dose back down now before the 'symptoms' become permanent. They may already be... I have permanent short-term memory loss from taking Lyrica - my pain mgmt doctor had me on 500mg a day - I would fall alseep while standing, during mid-conversation with someone at work. I lost words all the time and still do each and every day. I have very little short-term memory recall left and constantly forget things, almost as if it never happened.

Look, I get that you don't want to take the pain meds but seriously... drop the lyrica completely and get back on the Cymbalta and take a higher dose of the pain meds. Your doing yourself no favors by staying in pain - the Cymbalta and opiate will do a lot less harm together than the lyrica... Lyrica will do permanent damage. If you're worried about your liver, take milk thistle (vitamin) - it will make your liver look like a new baby's.
