Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 11)
UpdatedI have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)
I've been on lirica at least four years now,it's a part of my life i had to accept. I take 300 mg every twelve hours, but if I didn't have it my life would be just an existent . I would rather deal with the side affects than live with that terrible nerve pain.
The Question with Lyrica is do you wont permanent brain impairment at the expense of pain control when there are alternative effective medications available besides brain destroying Lyrica
There are other meds on the market for pain.Amy are opiates. I take Tylenol 3. I have no memory loss and no pain. Do you know the doctors are getting kickbacks from the drug companies to prescribe their drugs. The doctors don't care. They treat you like a but case all the while they are increasing your dosage without you being aware and why should you be aware, by the time YOUR relatives figure it out, if they can, your brain is fried and you are in la-la land and not aware of what is going on? See a shrink and see what he says. Mine toldr to get off Chamtrix because he saw too many people go psycho on it. Anyway, aren't you memories valuable. I don't know how old you are. But would you want to miss your first day of school. Forget your first love and if you are married, forget most of the wedding, and maybe the north of your first child. I know I wouldn't. Decrease your dosage slowly per your PSYCHIATRIST advice. Some of what you lost may com back but not all. Good luck to you andau God bless you.
I have EXACTLY the same problem and am So worried that it is premature dementia or worse ( can't remember the name for it!!!) I fumble around as if I am searching for a word in a foreign language . I take it for musicophilia ( constant music in the brain) and find that 400-500 m grammes helped get some sleep at night . I can cope during the day , except for the memory loss . It's worth it .
Hello
I have been on 450mg of Lyrica since last night. I have been on 300 mg of Lyrica for a month now. My vocabulary is terrible since taking Lyrica. I also have really bad short term memory. I forget what I went into a room for. It is a legitamate side effect.
I've read all 205 of your posts as I cried through most of them. I started taking lyrica In 2005 when it was approved for fibromyalgia, and I am still taking it 10 years later. I am scared out of my mind thinking about staying on it and also about withdrawing from it and the nerve pain that will be inevitable. At first it did help my pain, and every time I've gone to my dr about a new symptom, which would actually have been a new side effect he told me it was my fibromyalgia. I was taking Valium at the time so all my problems was blamed on this, my husband thought I was losing my mind ( looks like I was ). I was detoxed off the Valium and was told by several drs that it was what was causing all my memory loss. I also believe I have blackouts while awake, my children and husband and parents have all told me things I said or did that I don't remember and is way out of character. Even my dog complains. Just kidding. I haven't told anyone this, but thoughts of suicide run through my mind at times over the littlest thing and this is completely out of character, I couldn't even imagine doing such a thing. I hope all the best for all of you and you will all be in my prayers, that is when I can remember to pray. Just kidding, I have to laugh to keep from crying.
I was on Lyrica for a few months at about 100g during that time I did not notice any physical or mental problems, but people at work did. I was working in a hospital. They said my speech was slurred, my walking was staggering down the halls and at home I would fall out of bed and be unable to get up. Also I would forget where a chart was. Because of that they sent me for a blood alcohol level because they thought I was drunk. Their evaluation came back negative. Another effect I know is I forgot how to drive my car. I got myself off it cold turkey. After 8 years, I still have difficultly remembering, finding the right words to say and overall, short memory loss, which will never come back. Thank you, Lyrica!
I initially took Cymbalta and gabapentin. that combination was deadly. Brain dead. made bad decisions.
Now on Lyrica 75 mg up to three times a day and hydrocodone 5mg/375 mg apap.
The word problem does not go away, at least has not for me. Recently quit taking Elavil 25 mg tid, for depression and helps with pain, but it seemed to sedate me too, and feel brighter since stopping that. It did help some with depression but so far doing fine.
Want to try medical marijuana as I heard it is better without getting high and less side effects. Florida having another election on it next November.
Chronic pain is not fun. My son is rude and insulting about my medications and calls me a druggie. He is a drug addict, and I have little contact with him. Just learned how to block his cell calls and texts. Stress does make pain worse in my experience.

Hi Ian , has your memory returned to normal since you stopped taking Lyrica ?
I have been taking lyrica 450 mg for 10 years for fibromyalgia nerve pain. It does help with the pain, but after reading all of the side effects, my dr kept saying was because of my fibro, but I now know is the lyrica. My memory is so so bad, I have my family repeat things to me over and over, I have to write everything down. I no longer go out in public because I feel like a bumbling i****. I completely isolate myself except from my family because I can't seem to talk or think, and if I do it's with great effort and not for long. I was involved with my children/grandchildren's lives and involved in my community and now I just sit at home like a vegetable. I am 52 and have always been active. So so many side effects and I am so angry we have all been mislead! I have spent $60,000 on my teeth having them redone, and I just made an app for two root canals next week?? We feel bad enough with all the pain were already experiencing, but Pfizer had to release lyrica with all the side effects, that have ruined so many lives. We need to all stand together against them. Sorry hope I'm not rambling, but I guess y'all would understand. Lol. Bless everyone, I wish you all well!
yes I found out too late , damaged is done. just with a month, since oct, 2014 .. today 2015 may. no improvement and it seem to make dementia worse ...
see like nothing can improved or reverse the situation. it a daily 24hrs 365 days stresssss -for patient and the caregiver
My fumbling for words has improved !!! Am on 400 mg for insomnia .
Just wanted to give everyone some positive hope . I felt as if I was searching for a word in a foreign language at first but after 8 months , am ok again None of the horrid side effects mentioned on here
I thought I was just getting older and senile.I take 150 mg in the morning and 150 mg at night.I also take it for lower rib pain and middle ri.b pain. Doctors call it fibromyalgia. I didn't know that it could mess with your concentration so bad. I'm very unorganized at home. I can't be at work so by the time I get home I have a lot of fatigue and pain. I am going to try and cut down on this medicine though.
Goofy if you don't get off Lyrica very quickly you may be left Goofy for good ...
I also had my dose increased from 50 mg to 100mg three times a day. Indeed, I
noticed blurred vision with the increase but it was my family that noticed the slurred speech and problems with my gait /balance. Although, I felt great! My nerve pain originates from L4-L-5 and S1, and finally it's was gone! Due to the side effects , unfortunately I had to stop taking Lyrica because I was being accused of drinking or ingesting something other then prescribed. I stopped taking Lyrica all at once which make me sick as could be for quite some time! So please, if your planning on reducing or stop taking Lyrica all together, I strongly suggest make a plan with your physician . Research is finding it can be worse than withdrawing from street drugs! The more research I did, the more concerned I became! Discontinuing Lyrica is very upsetting to me, it was the one drugs that worked! But if my family was noticing these side effects than I'm sure someone at work may have as well. Good luck and go slow!
If a neurologist said that i dont have MS from a scan, could he be wrong?
My memory loss, vocabulary, and names has plagued me also. I was beginning to think I had Alhzeimers disease. I am on Lyrica 150mg,three times a day. I am relieved to think it is the Lyrica instead of the alternative. It does control my severe fibromyalgia pain when nothing else did.
Lyrica is controlling your fibromyalgia pain by gradual destroying the neural conductivity of your brain just like stopping the engine warning light on your car dash board by unplugging the computer but your brain will never be the same again after taking Lyrica . .
I took Lyrica at a high dose for over a year ( I can't remember the dose or the time on the med!) after my pain doc changed me from Gabapentin, which was working well for my facial pain. The doc thought the Lyrics would work better--and at a lower dose than the Gabapentin. I had the significant short-term memory loss, challenges having a conversation due to difficulty finding words, unsteady gait, and a noticeably slurred speech, as well as hearing loss. I attributed these symptoms to other meds, including narcotics, that I was taking. A sign that my thinking was muddled! It became most noticeable when I transferred to another department at the hospital. Up to that time, I was an advanced practice nurse with a good reputation. During my training period, I had a HORRIBLE time learning new concepts. One of the staff members at the new job who knew my abilities at my previous job told me that it was like flipping a switch--my capabilities at my previous position vs the new one. THAT'S when I demanded to stop the Lyrica. I did notice improvement of the short-term memory loss, staggering gait, and slurred speech after switching back to the Gabapentin. I did, however, continue to have the same issues, but to a lesser degree. The hearing loss is unchanged, and appears to be permanent. It's so very frustrating to have these symptoms continue after stopping the Lyrica. Please send a post if you have any info which might benefit me.
Thanks!
Beffyrn , My Son was a very gifted student before taking Lyrica , once his dose hit 75mg x 4 per day it was an instant change in his mental ability , he now has been off Lyrica for 5 years , is 22 years of age and still struggles to lean and constantly laments the days when he could learn very easily even the most complex mathematics , Lyrica has destroyed his ability to retain knowledge and process very complex information and very little has improved in 5 years , Lyrica permanently damages the brain , i have no doubt of that .and this drug has devastated my sons life , his income earning potential and thereby his socio economic position in society , lyrica has left him on the bottom of the ladder ..... ....
