Does Valium Cause Depression? (Top voted first)

Does anybody know or think if Valium could cause depression? This might sound like a weird question, actually, maybe it is bad to take alcohol while on Valium. I would appreciate any feedback.

Rohan it's a vicious cycle and mainly a physical thing
I speak from my experience it is a chemical thing Going
on
The anxiety and depression caused the use of the medications legal and not legal substances
The substances caused tiredness sleepiness and no anxiety
The sleepiness caused bed rest
The bed rest intially is great but eventually slows any chance of endorphins bein manufactured by your body
No endorphins no happiness equals depression
Depression means more drugs more bed rest more depression
Down down down you go
I've done it
I've been there
What helped me was the realisation that I was not fighting a mental illness so much as a clear cut physical illness
Body chemistry out of whack
Started moving as much as I hated it gave myself little rewards for doing any kind of get out and move thing
Got a step counter
It was excruciating but it worked the body eventually started manufacturing its own as well as a gp help antidepressants
It's not rocket science
You do not have to live like this
Your mind will clear and you can use it then to address the grief depression and anxiety that caused this a bit at a time

i am on 30mg a day,i have been on vallium 4 number of years i am also on methadone that i am bringing myself off,this year alone i have done nothing,where before i liked to go camping ,drawing ect.i feel i have wasted at least 5 years of my life,i had lost my dad 2 years ago and i so wanted to go with him,i have selfharmed but this was b4 vallium and out of anger now i have done it because i feel so alone and i sit in my houseday afterday,sleeping,i am tired of my life as i do not no the meaning of it anymore,i have written my will and i wish i could just be put down

Some people can be very sensitive to anything that depresses the nervous system and may cause depression in those individuals. I have valium as needed but only use 1/2 5mg tablet when it is greatly needed for anxiety because if I take it twice in 1 day or even 2 days in a row I get very very depressed and emotional! After a few days with out it Im fine again.To me the depression is worse than anything!!!! I was once prescribed propanalol for high pulse and i slowly went into the darkest place I could imagine,I withdrew slowly and came out of it!!!! Be careful and God Bless!!!

I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE MY 2 CENTS! MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED ME VALIUM AND I TOOK IT AS PRESCRIBED YET AFTER 4 DAYS I STOPPED CARING ABOUT ANYTHING OR ANYONE! ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS SLEEP ! I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE!

are you still alive? are you ok? are you still taking Valium and if so are you still on the same dose? i would like to know as much as you can inform me about your experience with Valium.

Susie find yourself a good gp. 30mg of Valium is too much and unsafe for you. It does not treat sadness or depression and in these doses it can cause it. Cutting down needs to be under supervision of a good doctor or nurse who can assist you with your depression
Yes initially you would have felt relief of your anxiety and didn't that feel great after trying to cope for so long?
But it stops working you build tolerance and you become immobilised which then causes any feel good chemicals in your brain to stop being manufactured. So guess what you get more depressed and jittery.
You may need a few months on an antidepressant that also manages anxiety your doctor SHOULD know about these! while you are getting off that ridiculous dose of Valium
Also I am advocating that you get moving walking anything you can force yourself to do at the same time so you can start to manufacture your own feel good chemicals
Please ask around and get a good doctor you are worth it and you can live a really good life free from anxiety and being enslaved by a drug that is not currently your friend

Omg I have the same feeling I've been on vlium for almost a year. Everything I once enjoyed I could care less about n want to just go to sleep n be done with it. It has been really getting bad these past few weeks I think I'm gonna try n wing myself off of this. I sleeepp continuously and still feel tired n don't want to be around anyone .I feel a sense of worthlessness n a waste of space.

I'm trying to come off valium as I have become to drug dependant. I have been starting to think that the Valium is making more depressed. I also take Imovane to sleep at night and have recently come off Pristiq... Does anyone know how long it takes to taper off valium with minimal side effects?

I have been on one 10mg valium taken @ bedtime, as a muscle relaxer following a neck injury, for over 10 years. I suffer from depression and anxiety. I take Xanax. I was on a trip recently, and was off valium for about a week. I noticed after several days, my depression/anxiety improved. Upon return I resumed valium, and after a few doses, I feel as if my depression is returning. I know, I am supposed to wean myself. Since I also take Xanax, perhaps that controlled withdrawal, or I hadn't been w/o valium long enough to present symptoms.

YES!!!! Valium can definitely cause deep depression, and zombie-like behavior... You can't think straight, and life has no meaning. It helped me to sleep, but all it really did was knock me out... was not QUALITY sleep... The worst part was the deep, deep sadness and depression I was experiencing every day... I have never been in such a dark place in my life. Very scary, and I will never touch this drug again. There are many other drugs for anxiety, and decent drugs for depression. My advice is to stay away from Valium!

Hi there. I just tried Valium for the first time and have been taking 2 5mg to the past two days to help with insomnia & anxiety. I did not have anxiety at all yesterday. But the thing was I fell into a deep sleep & had the most realistic & vivid nightmares. I woke up crying & I couldn't stop even after I was awake. I felt so depressed & lonely after taking it. I don't think I will be taking this drug much longer. It was so nice to not have anxiety but its not worth the deep sadness I felt. I hope this helps.

I feel the same. I have tried every antidepressant out there and nothing has helped. I have been taking Valium for several years for anxiety. I am now laid off from work and I do not even want to get up in the morning. Don't know what to do anymore.

I've become very depressed over the last couple of years. I quit the Xanax before Christmas along with a mood stabiliser & Oxycontin over the last 13 months. 6 weeks ago, I had a huge panic attack & my doctor prescribed me 20mg of Diazepam a day. They help the panic but I'm still a mess. They've cured my insomnia but at what price. I really dislike taking them but that's what they give you here in the UK. I see the shrink next week & after 4.5 years living in this country, finally getting mental health services, although slowly. I've found benzos to screw me up big time. I'm diagnosed Bipolar but getting rediagnosed by a team of personality disorderpsychologists. They have made my panic attacks so much worse. I've barely left the house in 2 years!!!

Doug what do you specifically want out of all of this? What is the real problem that needs treating? Depression is not treated with Valium Xanax oxazepam or any other sedatives/ anti anxiety pills. Anxiety medications given to patients who need short term assistance WHILST they are getting help either counseling from the GP practice nurse or psychologist or psychiatrist. In my opinion any doctor who prescribes Valium in high doses over longer than 3 months without insisting on you getting counseling to identify and manage your issues is lazy incompetent burnt out and stressed or a combination of all of these! You will not improve the way you are going. Your life can get better, mine did but only after years of playing around looking for the easy fix with medications. Get a decent gp find out what is really going on with your emotions and get some counseling or join a group be that mood substance abuse anxiety or PTSD support groups. If you need a course of antidepressants stick with them through their side effects and don't mix em with other mess and follow my advice on the counseling. Let me know what you think and intend to do xx

Yes Valium is known to cause depression. Many people have experienced this and end up in a horrible downward spiral of taking more Valium to fix themselves when in fact it's making them worse and more depressed. Alcohol and Valium are two drugs that do not mix well.

The combination causes increased sensation of well-being initially but pretty quickly can turn into severe disorientation poor judgement including disinhibition behaviors and poor memory of what occurred whilst taking it. All responses are slowed and you are not aware so huge risk of car crash, being targeted for mugging, rape and STI is to be expected if you go out. If you stay home, falls and real injuries fire risk and asphyxiation from passing out and vomiting are risks if you choose to combine the two drugs alcohol and Valium in any moderate to large amount.

If you are prescribed Valium and are thinking of having a night out please: Either drink less and have water in between drinks. Make sure there is someone you trust with you who is aware of the potential that your risk taking behavior may suddenly need to be addressed and take responsibility for you. Never go out alone even out of a night club for air. Do not drive. Hope this helps you

Hi there I am on mirtazapine for my severe clinical depression and have been back on it for 7 weeks as was on it before for 2 yrs and by It worked great.
I have also been prescribed propranolol and diazepam for the anxiety but my depression feels so much worse. Should I try Andrade through the anxiety? I am taking 1 5mg diazepam a day usually in 2 halves and up to 4-6 propananol!!! Feeling so low I don't veneers have energy to wash, eat etc

Been taking Valium on and off for four decades. Usually take 5mg before sleep, as it allows me to sleep through the night. Some days I take 10 mg, which will work if not too aggravated. It's a tradeoff. Lack of sleep is also harmful on many levels, so for me I accept the harm from diazapan rather than lack of sleep. I fine with the 5 mg, but would never take it if not followed by sleep.

I know it accumulates, and tried to stop, but only lasted about a week. Too screwed up to sleep without it, and I'm now in my 8th decade of life.

For my purposes, at this dose, I consider it a God send.
