this is the first time posting here. I 've always wished that I could tell this to someone for a longtime. I've had MS for 12+ yrs. My neuro tells me that he doesn't presribe narcotics. My left leg is burning. I He knows that. I live w/ my elderly mother. she is 80 something. I can't ask her to go to the ER anymore. I had a different neuro from 1991 to 2002. He wouldn't let me suffer like this. He is a few hours away. this pain is too much. He's closer to Conn. now and I've moved back to
the 978 area code. The MS makes me so tired.

Thank you F100 for your reply. I would love to be able to travel to see that dr but I can't afford it. I can barely afford to see the Dr I see now. I hate this methadone. I feel like nothing is going to help enough and that I'm better off going back to that. Although it didn't help enough with my pain, at least I felt normal and could take a shower every day and do some cleaning even if I end up in pain. I am really really hoping that the Dr listens to me and realizes that I need a higher dose just to get back to a normal feeling and life. Bad thing is the oxycodone that I'm taking only lasts about an hour for me and then I'm back to the sweating and hot flashes and cramping everywhere. I am wondering if there is anything else besides oxycodone that might last longer. Because only being able to take 4 a day means I get 4 hours out of 24 hours of relief. The othee 20 hours I'm suffering. Does anyone know of any other type of pain medication that could help? Thanks.

I'm looking for a dr. in West TN who will prescribe hydrocodone. I'm going to Comprehensive Pain Specialists in Jackson, TN and even with insurance their charges are ridiculous! Just to go get a refill each month, after insurance, it's over $100!

BL
Thank you, yeah I have my paper work from my old doctor. I told him how i was looking for a doctor closer to where I moved to, so he gave me a "temporary discharge" letter and my records so that if I cant find a doctor in Northern N.J, I can keep going back to him. But id rather find one up here because I'm tired of the 3 hour hike each month to go back down and see him for 20 minutes and then have the 3 hour drive back up north! Sucksssss

Jeffery, a new pain managment dr will want a copy of your medical records from your previous dr, not just a copy of the MRI. You can sign a release form and they can send the request to your old dr. When you find a new dr be sure you have your old drs address, phone & fax number. Although there is no guarantee that another dr will treat you with the same meds in the same dosages as your previous dr did.

Hey everyone, so I just moved up to Northern New Jersey, Morristown to be exact. But I moved from Atlantic City N.J. I have 3 torn ligaments' and a fractured bone all in my ankle. Now I have my MRI and my pharmacy record showing that I have been on oxycodine 30mg 4 times a day for pain. I am really tired of having to travel the 3 hour drive back down to Atlantic City to see my 'Pain Medicine/Pain Management doctor' every month! Any chance does anyone know of a doctor that I can goto in Northern New Jersey or New York that will keep me on my medicine that I have taken for the past 6 and half years. I am 29 and I take my oxycodine because it takes away the pain enough that I can get through my daily routine which is work. I have gone a month and half now with out taking any pain medicine and my ankle is absolutely throbbing thru out the day and when I get off work and now it has started to effect my work due to the pain. I need to find a legit doctor that wont give me crap and see from my MRI and my Pharmacy record that the medicine I was taking was working the best for my pain. If anyone could help me with a doctor I would greatly appreciate it! I am also a self pay, my health insurance doesn't kick in for another 6 months. Thank you and please help!

Karen from columbus, I have been on zanax for the last 22yrs. and also been on klonopin ,ativan and valium. I take zanax for the anxiety and it also enhances my pain meds. I believe that valium is more of a muscle relaxer than for anxiety but differant meds work meds work better on some people for what the need it for. My dr says that I must take my meds together so I can keep my pain under control. I also take flexeril a muscle relaxer, the ativan didnt not work as well for me as the zanax does. With right combination of meds you my be able to get back to a more normal life than what you are living now.It takes a dr that is willing to give you the right meds and will try differant ones until you find the right combination that works for you. I also take lyrica for the nerve pain which does help but are expensive, keep trying is all any one can do it should not be this hard to get pain relief in this country. there are so many pain meds that no one should have to live in pain, I often wonder just how free we really are in this country of freedom? To have to go through all that we do to get some help to relieve our pain is not right, hope you can find the right dr and meds to help you. god bless you and I will try to keep up with your fight to get some relief and the normal life you desearve.

I did & have still been searching out more info on the differences of the 2 drugs. Valium & Xanax . I have had 2 use Xanax b 4. But between these both I've read that Valium can help with spasms like these that keep happening in my back & up & down my leg. Because of these degenerated disks arthrisit of course & this sciatica nerve being such a pinched nerve. I've had not much sleep again because the tylonal 3 just isn't sting enough. I've got 2 travel again & wow that hurts. I got just got back from a visit 2 c my daughter a 2 hr. Trip 1 way then 2 hrs back. I could barely move its taken 2 or 3 days now on ice & heat just 2 feel a bit better & I no I need the sleep. Thanks again. 4 any info & help. My best 2 all always !!!! So I've become so afraid 2 do much travel. It's sad. I miss my family & everything. Same as The many on here.

Hello from Ohio ... It's been awhile since I've been on here. Since getting off the tramadol by being put on only Tylenol 3. The pains of course is bad. I'm asking a question. Since the er doc. Wanted me on something stronger it's been hard 2 control. I knew my doctor most likely wouldn't prescribe anything stronger ... I wish I could've felt safer by getting a stronger med. but I didn't believe she would. So now after that last hospital visit the same er doctor @ the time said he wanted & Recomended I start taking either Xanax which he sent me home with 4 awhile. Or Valium Id like 2 c & hear back wat some of u can maybe decide on. I read & talked 2 a few that preferred the Valium saying it has a longer acting effect & can help with muscle spasms. So now I'm wondering which 2 try 2 ask 4 & feel better.i will say the Xanax which was low 5 milligrams did help a bit with the calming & some of the pain. Thanks. & hell o 2 Karen & f100 NJSHORE MJC & all of u. Info is always better from those who have been on or no wat might b best. My Lv & best. Hope 2 hear soon something back.thanks & Karen I do keep wanting 2 get back 2 u. It's still just been crazy ! So I hope I can get info 2 no better.xoxo. Thanks

Methadone is something I will never take it has killed many people that were on this for their pain. its a killer be careful taking these for your pain.Everyone needs to contact your congressmen to make new laws for pain patients, to recieve higher doses of opiates to treat their pain. The dea and other agencies that go after drs that do prescribe opiates are wrong and are stepping on our rights to decide what we want to take for our pain. seems that we lose our right to decide what we want to do with our health care and what drs and we to decide what treatments we want. Why do we have to be dieing to recieve opiate pain meds, Many people die because of pain and commit suicide because of the pain. Take our rights back to decide and recive opiate pain meds for our intractable pain. Start advocating for pain patients bill of rights.Help change the laws in your state to recieve higher doses of opiate pain meds. Not all of us that are in pain abuse our meds that get them for our pain. when some one you know dies because of their pain and that would still be alive if they had the right to recieve enough pain meds, not just some injections that last for a few days or have to have some inplants instead of just some pain meds. This is some thing I feel very strong about. Its time to be in control of our treatments and not be told by the dea or other agencies what we can take or not take.

MJC, hi I have been through the same thing as you, Drs saying I,m not in pain because the xrays mirs didnt show any nerves being pinced or damaged. I have been dealing with this for over 20 yrs. Intractable pain is basicaly when you are in pain and there is nothing that can be be done to releive your pain with surgery or any other types of therapy or treatments. Sounds like what you are going through is what intractable pain is. When pain is called cronic drs dont seem to think that it can be treated with some kind of therapy other than opiate pain meds. Google a Dr Forest Tenant he is a dr in california that helps us that suffer from intractable pain. He treats people from others state as well as a few other drs there that treat out of state patients. Dr Adam Hy is another one in ca. that does treat out of state patients. I hope you will find this helpful and can get the pain relief you have the right to receive .

Hey, I live in Morristown, about 15 minutes outside of Jersey City N.J.
I just moved up here and I have my MRI and my pharmacy records showing that I've been on oxycodine 30mg 4 times a day. I'm trying to find a doctor up here that will help me and wont give me hassle because I'm a self paying patient because I have no health insurance. Any chance you had any luck finding a good doctor that will continue my treatment?

That's not true! I live in NC and I'm in very legit pain with several painful diagnosis. But because the Drs are being looked at more THEYRE not as willing to prescribe them. I have a Dr now who does prescribe 4 me but I'm trying to find a closer Dr closer to home. Not everyone is a 'pill junky' although they r out there! They ruin it for us who are legit! :(

I am curious. I keep reading about intractible pain. What does that mean? What is the difference between that and chronic pain or any other pain for that matter? Just curious. I'm hanging in there. Doctor is only giving me 10mg four times a day right now and it's barely getting me through. I'm still going through withdrawls from the methadone and the 10s help but barely. I'm hoping to get him to bump me up on the 27th when I go back. I still can't hardly clean my house and I find myself going days in the same clothes and no shower. It's horrible. I hate my life right now. It sucks feeling sick all day long. If I need to do anything I have to take extra but then I have to go without on another day. It sucks. Sometimes I take a little bit of the methadone I have left just to feel good for a day. But I have to be careful because I don't want to get kicked out of the clinic. I'm just praying that the doctor realizes that my tolerance is so high still because of the high amount of methadone I was on. He is really quick and doesn't really listen to me very well but if I can get him to hear me for one minute hopefully he will understand and bump me up this time. Also this clinic doesn't take my insurance so I'm considering switching to another clinic but I'm scared to because we all know how hard it is to find a doctor to prescribe and I don't want to risk losing my prescriptions because the new doctor may not think I need it. That's how they treated me in Florida when I was there. Even with the mri's in front of them they still said I wasn't in pain because it showed no nerves were being pressed on. Regardless of what the pictures say I am in pain all the time and it's really upsetting when the doctors basically say I'm lying. I wish there was a test to determine what kind of pain we are in to show the doctors we aren't lying about our pain. Life would be so much more easier. I hope everyone is doing OK.
