Doctors Who Will Prescribe Pain Medication In Rhode Island (Page 13) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am looking for an MD or Pain clinic that will prescribe pain medication in Rhode Island. I have 4 herniated discs, nerve damage in my leg, severe migraines. My former Md said that he could not longer prescribe due to the regulations, I dont want to have to move, that would be crazy to have to go through that, but I also do not want to continue living night and day in Agony, with not one Md that has any compassion, it seems all they care about is to look out for themselves, I only take 2 pain medications that I believe are both in class 1, but when you talk to a doctor about pain, they tell you to take tylenol. I am tired of theses doctors just caring about themselves, if you have a patient like myself, that has the MRI's and Catscans to show what my pain level is, they should be a little more compassionate. I am not able to have surgery at this time, not until my daughter is driving and able to get out on her own, grocery store, ect. I would really appreciate any advise, I sleep with a heat pad every night on my back, but when I go to get up, the pain is unbearable.
Re: Victoria (# 94)
50 is lucky and enough for real pain, it's the limit. As of 2013 all narcotic will be phased out to banned 2025.
Re: Joseph (# 58)
That's insane. You only have pain from the meds a few months of subs and a few months of pain from cleaning body. Exercise and maybe some shots can get your life back.
Re: Renee Calpin (# 85)
Did you get a doctor?
Good luck....I don't know what the laws are in R.I. but mostly very limited now. The AMA has universal strict guidelines for the opiates. Damn shame too. You really have to have A LOT OF CURRENT MEDICAL DATA. Those good ole days are far gone with 30 percocets for the flu!!!! Either move to Amsterdam or elsewhere. Good luck

Hi Bobby, saw the post and I was hoping maybe you could help me!! I have been under care by same dr for 20 yrs he quit in dec and I can't find new dr. I have called min 30 offices and no one is taking new patients or they give drug panels to see what meds your taking, so very sad. I have broken both femurs pelvis, lower back, neck, have nerve damage in right shoulder and elbow. Back surgery made the pain 10000000 times worse. I have weened off my meds. I was taking 3 oxycontin 80 mg a day 8 oxycodone 20 mg and hydrocodone 750 3 a day. I'm currently taking just the oxycodone 30 mg. the pain is unbearable. even the pain management could not help. they told me they don't write scripts, only inj's. and counseling what a joke. I have been going thru this over 20 yrs. tried everything and the one thing that works I can't get. I am at the point where I would rather die from the pain then be treated the way I have.
Please help me i need a doctor only 3 pills left take 180 30 ng oxycodome 6 times. Daly for back and cancer and m th doc retired pleae help

WORST CASE SCENARIO - If you end up in the ER in withdrawals, and you can't get a script because you have no new doctor lined up OR you need to wait for your appointment, THIS HAPPENED TO ME: The ER tricked me into signing myself into the "Cracker Jack Factory" because I said if I didn't have my meds, and have to withdrawal, to shoot me. I spent 7 days with a bunch of real drug addicts, who say they like to check in in the winter for a warm place to sleep, or if they can't afford drugs on the street. They cut my oxy in half, but no withdrawals. They got me in with an awesome doctor and wrote me a month prescription when I was discharged. For the week, I colored, sang Karokee, read, played board games, and pretty much just hung out. Worst Case Scenario!
I have been on opioids since I was 23 years old and I am now 27. At first I was prescribed liquid oxycodone for a tonsillectomy when I was 20. Then when my grandfather passed from cancer I Inherited his liquid morphine. My next dance with opioids was when I was 23 and had impacted wisdom teeth. My insurance made it difficult for me to get the extraction and I lived in pain for 3 months before I could have the surgery. I began self medicating with perscription opioids because nobody would prescribe me anything other than Tylenol. Despite my bodily autonomy granted within the 14th amendment (which substantiated the RoeV. Wade decision) so for legitimate pain I was treated like an addict long before I had any addiction problems. And rather than consume high doses of over the counter analgesics which is horribly toxic for your liver, idecided to pay out of pocket for black market opioid prescriptions. At first I was getting percocette and taking as little as I could. But the impacted wisdom teeth were extremeny painful so eventually I started using dilaudid.i finally had the surgery and was able to ween myself off of the opioids with suboxone, however suboxone has exacerbated my situation. It didn't help my withdrawals and didn't ease the physical symptoms and also increased my anxiety and made it hard to sleep for the first month or so. So I went on and off buprenorphine for a while.
I have always struggled with back, beck shoulder pain and headaches. As well as insomnia and ADHD. However growing up in poverty I have always had sub standard medical care. So I often find it more efficient to medicate my illnesses. Whether they be physical, emotional or physiological ailments. Pain, anxiety and depression my financial- socio-economic status and prideful upbringing have made asking for help a very cumbersome thing for me to undertake. So self medication was the way I went about treating my disorders.
So now I currently am taking methadone and I take it acknowledging full well that I am addicted to opioids. Any chronic pain Patient that had taken opioids long enough will develop a physical dependency. I have been in a few car accidents as well and for over 6 years as an early adolescent/ teenager I worked at a hardware store unloading cargo such as skids of paint, concrete, mortar, blacktop patch, top soil mulch, sand, gravel, Not to mention many other heavy merchandise. So from the age of 15 to the age of 22 I put my body through lots of physical abuse and still to this day I find employment as a painter/ landscaper so I tend to abuse my body to make my living which does increase the amount of chronic pain I experience.
I found that suboxone didn't help my chronic pain deep within my neck, shoulders and spinal column. So after two attempts at suboxone maitenence I decided to try Methadone Maitenence. Despite the restrictive protocols that treat patients as if they are criminals and less then human. Ultimately violating my rights to privacy, And human rights to dignity.
So I've been taking methadone mostly to combat chronic pain under the guise that it is a maitenence drug for my addiction. I could go with suboxone for my maitenence however bupernorphine doesn't have anywhere near the same analgesic affects. Only to people with no tolerance on micro doses.
Help finding a doctor to treat acute back pain in Connecticut. I live alone and cannot drive any more. Some days I am unable to function enough to take care of myself. My daughter and parents live down south and I have only one friend that stops by to help. I am scared. If there is an emergency, like a fire in my house, I don't know if I could handle it. I am feeling vulnerable and the anxiety and stress is getting bad. I have very little money and can't move. What should I do? Please any advice will be appreciated.

I am moving close to RI and am in severe pain. I'm on oxycodone and that combined with other treatments seem to work-at least make it bearable. Do you know a doctor in RI?
