Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 31)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Hi CJK, My Pain doctor won't let me go to Walgreens because they have some trouble with pain Meds. I went to Walgreens for 8 years and received the Fentanyl patch without trouble. Now they want all my records way back to 1995 when I had my accident. I been through so many doctors and surgery's. I had every treatment you can have. I mean everyone. Then I was sent to a big time hospital which said I suffer from intractable pain. They started me on the Fentanyl patch(50mcg) which was the only medicine that gave me relief. Most pain doctors will not give all my information due to it really being illegal. It also takes way to much time for doctors to get all the history with all treatments people receive. Another thorn for people in Pain. If you need more information on Walgreens just type in Walgreens and they will explain it further on there website. Thanks

To all that are suffering from pain, there is no reason a person no matter what the age should have the right to have there pain treated as if it is a medical condition. Which it is just as is cancer, many people die from being in pain for so long the body just can't take the stress and other things that go along with constant pain. It's a known fact that people in constant pain do not live to be a ripe old age. Howard Hughes lived to be 72 yrs. old and was lucky he did enough things right to live that long. DR Tennant talks about him in a docametory about Howard Hughes. Dr. Tennant also was interviewed about Michael Jacksons Dr. and Tennant also helped get the Intractable pain law passed in cali., he also has confirmed in front of congress on this pain deal that so many are dealing with. He reffured me to a Dr. in Texas that takes out of state patients and There is a Dr. in Ohio that does too. Don't know the drs. name in ohio but I do have the one in Texas if anyone needs it. Sowething has to change for us that suffer 24/7 with pain. People with cancer are surely dying so they don't worry if the become addicted or not, but we with incurable pain are also dying so why must we suffer the rest of our lives because we may live longer than cancer patients. Its all a big cluster F-U-K. I get so angered by some drs. ignoance when they think they know how our bodies feel from our pain or not listen to us like we don't know how our own bodies feel. You all hang in there and hoprfully things will change for the better. God Bless You All!

Good Morning all

I just wanted to asks everyone a question you all recall when I said I got a letter from my Dr saying she discharged me because I failed to comply with the contract well I had to check into it a lil more because her reason was a bit shady it was because I did not get a job well im on disability so I do not have to work but if I do I need my meds but anyways as I was saying I had to find out a lil bit more because that just ain't a good legitimate reason in my books so I talked to her yesterday and she said the other reason for my discharge was because I was seeking help & info from another Dr now this is what's a bit mind blowing I never talked or seen another Dr I told my Dr I was reading and getting info on this IP stuff and I asked her about it prior and she really had nothing to say but I asked her if I could have an MRI & this one test that they do that checks your metoblizime and how meds work in my absobstion cause I had the weight loss surgery in 02 and I have problems with getting enough protein B-12 and other stuff and I know my pain meds don't work all the time but anyways my question is am I the only one here thinks that them 2 reasons for my discharge is shady or did I do something wrong id like your input on this thanks everyone BTW sorry for my spelling not so good with spelling

F100ford, Thanks for your excellent input. Plus the information on the intractable pain. which I I and so many others have. It just so sad and I say it again that no one should be always in severe pain whiitout any help from the Medical associations.I think somehow a group much be started to get some law reversed and some passed to help us. Spelling is a little odd, Hurting bad today hard to type.

I agree with everything being said. Pharmacies are choosing who's scripts to fill despite them having no authority on that level, but it's because their balls are in a vice, just like all these doctors' balls are in a vice held by the DEA. I just was denied disability because of a doctor I saw ONE TIME who said that me asking for pain meds BY NAME shows that I am a drug seeker. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? BECAUSE I ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT THE MEDS I TAKE AND AM NOT JUST COMPLETELY IGNORANT I AM A DRUG SEEKER???? And then they don't take the opinion of my primary care physician because he is a PA, not an actual M.D... So they labelled me as having the attributes of a drug seeker for seeing a pain doctor ONCE, NOT GETTING ANY MEDS FROM HIM, AND SIMPLY NAMING THE MEDS BY THEIR ACTUAL NAMES!!!!! It is just getting disgusting. They say there are 800 office jobs TOTAL in the ENTIRE state of Colorado and that I should be able to work those, so that is the reason they denied my case. I'M GETTING SOOOOO FED UP WITH THE GOVERNMENT STICKING THEIR NOSE IN HEALTHCARE AND ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO HAVE EATEN THEMSELVES INTO DIABETES GET GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE AND BECAUSE I AM YOUNG AND KNOW ABOUT THE MEDS I'M TAKING I GET THE SHAFT!!!! I'm getting just plain sick of it. Now I'm having to try to find some sort of work from home nonsense because I can't work and I am being shut down for getting disability because I know the names of the meds that work for me!!!! It's just so frustrating. I'm just labeled as having attributes of a drug seeker because I know about the medications I'm taking. SORRY I am not like everyone else and take 12 percocet or vicodin a day not knowing that it has tylenol and will destroy their livers in a matter of a year. It's just all bulls***.

Ok! I hope I can help here! I won't be able to give u the answers u want but information that can b helpful! Mac, I fully understand your issue with the "Drug Seeking" bs! My primary doc was also my pain doc! He was certified in both! For whatever reasons he chose to give up on pain management! I suspect there was more going on than the issues I'm seeing and what happened to me maybe part of why he decided it wasn't worth it! As u know the pharmacies r having issues getting the medications! Legally and I'm not sure why this is different pharmacy to pharmacy but they have anywhere from 3 to 7 days to completely fill your script! This makes it hard to keep up with as my husband is also on meds! I took my script in to b filled and of course they didn't have what was needed to fill the entire script! Then my husband had to have his filled and again they couldn't completely fill his script! I've always been very consistent, honest and open to my doc about what has happened! Not realizing that one of the scripts wasn't completely filled, I "assumed" and believe me, it made an ass out of u and me! I scheduled an appointment to c my doc for my refill! When I went to the pharmacy to fill it, they had a fit! Now these guys I've been with for 20 years, not a new patient! One of the aids without looking at their records went off stating that I had filled only 2 weeks prior! Now come on guys, I've been with u 20 years, wouldn't u look it up? So without talking to the pharmacist she called the doc and said that I had just filled two weeks prior! Well he goes off, thinking I was drug seeking and wrote me a letter that I was no longer welcome in his practice because of this incident! After doing some research that took all of five minutes, what had happened was that I hadn't picked up the other part of my previous script! A simple error, which was quickly fixed by looking at their computer but the damage was done! I was furious! It didn't stop me from using the same pharmacy, I just won't use that tech! They knew I wasn't drug seeking but the second half of this again a simple issue and fix also got blown out of proportion due to all this DEA stuff! This is when I found u guys and got into CPR! I called all the doc's on the list my doc had given me, most of which only did "interventional procedures" and no drug therapy! Now in the middle of all of this is my doc dropping me due to forgetting to pick up my meds, the only doc that would c me was Spine One, who again sent me to a different pain doc! I go see him, he writes me a script to keep me covered until I can get into this new referral! I c this new guy, who had NO records, just a referral to Spine One, he doesn't examine me, nothing! Asked me what I had been taking, dropped my dosage to half what it was and sent me on my merry way! I thought perhaps he was having a tough day, gave him the benefit of the doubt and go a second time! Again, he didn't examine me and starts to talk to me about doing IV's and interventional therapies, which due to my heart issue, I can't do! I explain all this to him and that I've been dealing with this for close to 20 years! I had a very physical job and this dropping me by half wasn't even close to keeping me ok! Without talking, he writes the very same scripts, asks his secretary to schedule me for IV's! I blew a tube! Terrified!

This wasn't something to play with on me! My heart issue and the IV's could have killed me! So feeling really boxed in a corner, I felt there had to b help out there! So I called "call a nurse", went over the internet for doc's or programs that would work for me and even as directed by one doc, went to the ER that supposedly had a pain management program affiliated with it and what happens? I get flagged for drug seeking, when I'm jumping through every hoop, cannon or anything they wanted to get good medical care! About 80% of the names of doc's I had been given were either closed by the DEA or we're no longer doing medication only therapies! Now I'm in a huge pickle! All because I didn't want to "settle" with poor medical care! Because in the span of 2 months I had seen 4 doc's, including my primary, Spine One, the referral doc and the ER doc and of course my pharmacy isn't open on weekends, so now I also have 2 pharmacies involved also! Try to get a doc after that! I wrote my primary and my pharmacist talked with my doc, we got that straightened out but he still wouldn't take me back! I had referred a gal to him, a young gal to him, she and her girlfriend were watching a movie with her head on the gals lap, when her friend woke up, it was to a dead gal on her lap! I think that was his last straw honestly and had nothing really to do with me! But after days upon days of searching, calling and doing research, I finally found u guys! Angels sent from heaven! Withdrawal isn't an option with me! I go into withdrawal, I quickly get dehydrated, they can't get a line in me from my cardiac arrest and I'd quickly die! So this isn't an option with me! The are two groups we should be writing as well as our reps and that's "Doctors Against Pain" and another, I'll get the websites and the name of the other and we should all write and don't stop at one, do it often! I've even written Obama! He actually is aware of the issue and does not believe that we should have to walk around in pain! Unfortunately with what's happening with medicine right now, it isn't the priority it should be! But we have voices and need to b heard! All this tapers into the other issue of SSDI! Do not b worried if u r denied the first time! It's actually unusual if u aren't! Typically it does go through the second time! What folks don't realize is that SSDI is not meant to b full pay, it's a supplement! What they want to see is that u r trying to do some kind of work but u have to b careful! If u give over your limit for how much u r "allowed" to make they will cut your supplement down and quickly! Just as quickly they will also increase it! So make sure u know how much u r allowed to make! There r some actual good sites to work from home! Do NOT do any that make u pay for anything andade sure it's a legit business, check the BBB, CNN, NBC and such, they actually have lists of places that will train u, do direct deposit an such! I will look up the name of the website and post it for u guys! I currently have a job through the internet and love it! U do have to b committed and self motivated but there are many niches out there if u have certain skills that will hire ubin a heartbeat! I ride horses and found a perfect job for me authenticating and pricing saddles for a large company! If u go through the site that I'll provide, u will have to have an active bank account, bought cards that u load won't work due to the new laws to keep terrorists at bay! My company after my two months detention now provides health insurances, an 800 number and unlimited internet, so there r good benefits also but just like with finding a good doc, be careful, there r tons of slimy folks out there taking advantage of folks like us!

One thing that is nice is that, I'm sure, like me your credit ratingay not b too good due to the medical bills! Most of the companies don't care! They r more of a hand up, not hand out! Believe me, the hand up deal is a big one if u r applying for SSDI! People think SSDI will cover all their bills, it won't! Plus the benefit of having a goal and doing something does help! Interaction with other folks is so important! Sitting on the coach, taking meds, isn't living! Even before u find a job, just getting outbid the house is important! There is life to live, even with pain! It will help your attitude, health andental status to keep up the good fight! I hope this helps and I'll post the info on who to write and the job info either today or tomorrow! It's a new year! Let's start it out with a good attitude and a good, intelligent fight! Don't let your letters not be intelligent sounding, spell check and check anything u r quoting or percentages! They need to understand we aren't folks running around with needles up our arms! Heck, my 87 year old mom is on oxy's and she's having the same issues! Apparently many older folks get scripts and supplement their SSDI with the funds from selling their meds, so everyone is being looked at! I hope this helped! I'll get the info u guys need and let's make this a new year, new attitude and stand up for our rights to live and enjoy our lives!

Well It looks like my Dr has gave me no option but to start drinking because I am not going to go find drugs off the streets. im not going to suffer in pain either I just wish & hope my Dr fails at whatever she has plans for because she is new and she thinks by dischargeing me because I did not get a job when I am on disability & don't need to work I just hope she f***s with the wrong person and they take her down for her lack of knownladge in the chronic pain field because she knows nothing stupid b**** she is I tell ya

They're everywhere. I get in trouble and get debited disability because I know more about the meds than the doctor, so I MUST be seeking drugs. hahaha Ya right!!!! It's just disgusting. They completely discount my doctor's suggestions and go with a doctor I saw MAYBE TWICE And he wanted all my meds to be gone after a month. Such bs. You don't wean off all the methadone and oxycodone in a single month. I just need to be like "that one thing that is spelled like ocs at the beginning or something like that." And just fyi, this was my first appeal. I'm going to do the online things and make money my way and still appeal this again out of principle. I'm not a fuc**** seeker.

First off CKL, please don't start drinking an "self medicating" yourself! Drinking actually is one of the most dangerous drugs to take yourself off of and of course, it's legal! Are you in Colorado! If not where? I'll try to find you some referrals, it may not b the answer but it maybe a start! I did the drinking deal and although it did help the pain, I deeply regret the years that I missed living and being with my boys! MAC, u have me a little worried also! U talking about ordering from the internet? Many folks do because of the hassles and my concern isn't that u would order but my concern is u don't know what these meds have been cut with, where they come from (most r coming out of India now) and lots of them r darn right dangerous! Believe me, I don't think there isn't a one of us, if u r being honest with ourselves, that haven't ordered or at least thought about ordering this way! If u r going to CPR, u know that in addition to their typical ua's, they often to check up, send them out and they check the bi-products that could indicate meds from elsewhere! So please b careful! Are u feeling u aren't getting the pain control u need or r u concerned about the even heavier DEA involvement and the lack of doc's not being allowed to practice medicine? What angers me the most is that these examples of folks overdosing regardless what they r prescribed can overdose on Tylenol, a far more dangerous drug than folks realize! A Tylenol overdose WILL kill u! They don't have manner to reverse its overdose! Additionally, large doses over extended periods of time will ruin your liver and it's not reversible! What bothers me is that it has been "admitted" that this situation has gone too far but it seems to me than moving closer to the middle, it's getting worse! I can't figure out with everything going on with Obamacare and everything else with medicine that this is seen as an emergency! As far as the job stuff, r u currently on SSDI or workman's comp or is this just your states rules? Here in Colorado, u don't have to provide info that u r job seeking, except with workman's comp and typically providing listings from the internet that u "looked into" covers u! I can help u look into this! Mac is right, u need to start your own thread to get help from folks in your area, believe me, they r out there!

Hi MAC686, just trying to help. Have you called Dr. John Tobey at phone number (303)-468-3480. Won't hurt to give a call. Can't lose if we try!!! I know the situation your in. I have a destroyed back with 6 fractures in T- Spine. A plate screwed In my cervical spine. Three operations for Lumber spine with all the conditions you mentioned. Can't function. Pain is intractable. Never stops completely even with strong meds.I know your problem because I have a difficult doctor in New Jersey. He sometimes just don't get the pain we are in. I need to up on one of my medicines but he won't budge. It's rough finding a good doctor with the will to really help us. I feel so bad for you, others and myself. we should not have to suffer. Your right JaneyGirl, everyone should stand up and write to our state reprersentatives to start getting these changed to help all us in such chronic and intractable chronic pain. We have rights just like anyone else but like you said JaneyGirl is that we have to start working together as one to start getting some respect as the ADULTS with Constitutional rights. I really believe we are being treated with such disrespect!! It's no fun fighting with the doctors, drugstores, and the DEA. WE SHOULD RECEIVE THE MEDICINES WE TRULY NEED WITOUT GETTING TREATED LIKE THIS. WE MUST FIGHT BACK!!!!!

MAC, yesterday was the straw that broke the camels back! My pharmacy of 20 years had to relent to the pressure of the DEA and dropped the max of oxy's to 6 a day from 8! I know this sounds high to begin with but some folks oxy is the only thing that works for them and they take 2 every 4 hours and it worked for them! No more! This guy has been fighting for folks like us since King Soopers dropped their max over a year and a half ago! He said he couldn't fight them anymore! Their pharmacy is in a hospital and their use of oxy was high because of the amt of surgical procedures done but the DEA thinks their usage should be the same as any other pharmacy! That's stupid! The doc's, pharmacies and such are on our side! They r frustrated! They feel bad for the patients who they have worked with for years and now r seeing them stressed, which obviously puts them in more pain and fighting everyday with suppliers and the DEA! The doc's r seeing the same things, being pushed to include interventional procedures which most of us have had over and over again, I don't know about u guys but I spent well over 10 years of pt, ot, acupuncture, IV's and such without success! Everyone is frustrated! Rumor mill from the medical field is that the price of H has dropped and I don't know about u guys but I'm getting emails for buying meds over the internet in droves! I wish I had better answers but the only answer I see at this point is that the more folks that write, the better off we r! Have family members, friends write also including changes in behavior, changes in your ability to do things and stuff like that! I know they have a ton on their plate with the current medical changes, which has been the responses I've gotten back, if the DEA has time to be pushing this far, they have time to evaluate whether what they r doing is worth it! It's well documented that less than 6% of folks on narcotics abuse them! That seems like a small amt compared to the amt of street drugs being sold! I realize that what started this whole deal was doc's overprescribing oxy to begin with but how many of those people who got them as a pain med for back pain because of the freak out of patients getting too much Tylenol but this has gone way beyond a knee jerk! Heck, when ER's can't prescribe pain meds when people need them, that's wrong! We need to find some rep of some type that will take this issue seriously and write that rep! If I get any response from anyone that "feels" for us, I'll post and we can all write that rep! All we need is one! These guys do write back! I've gotten responses but nothing but crappy bs responses! I even wrote Obama but no response back as yet! We need to put our heads together and come up with something! When doc's r stressed for practicing medicine something's wrong!

Janey I never talked about ordering from the internet, Idk where you read that. I know all about how nasty stuff from India can be, and it's illegal as heck without a script. My pain is decently controlled, but I am just scared that if anything happens to my current doc (CPR) then I'm going to be up s*** creek without a paddle. And I have been cut down from 6 break thru OCs a day to 4!!!! I was great when I was at 6. And now they won't budge ONE over 4!!! And THORSEN, you know roughly what I take, do you think the doc you're suggesting wouldn't just be a waste of my time? Because I don't want to throw CPR out the window when it's working OK, but if I could find a doc that takes insurance and is willing to write me my methadone or fentanyl (depending on the time of year because I switch off to keep tolerance low) and 6 break thru 30mg OCs and not treat me like an addict that would be incredible.

Hi Mac, My mistake, I thought you lost your doctor and I was just suggesting an option. Yes, I know how scared it is if your getting cut on medicine because I'm in the same exact boat. If I lose my doctor I'm in trouble because it's almost impossible to find a doctor to give out ant types of pain medicine. I also panic because my doctor won't budge on Opioids. I'm sunk if he just stops. Just was trying to help because I thought you lost your Doctor giving meds. I'll just mind my own from now on. Thanks
