Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 246)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

For anyone that might be waiting to hear an update............... CPR is back up and running. They are scheduling appointments.

Wow, this morphine equivalent is such a stupid thing. I was first taken off fentanyl in Jan, now my body is so usde to morphine that it does nothing to relieve my pain. I have an incomplete spinal cord injury, both hips are broken and dislocated, but I can not have hip replacement, due to paralysis. I was a 2x Olympic skier before I broke my back. I hate how patients that have to use schedule 2 medication get labeled as drug abusers. I would move to another country if I knew I could get the pain relief I need. I am trying to find a Dr. to do a nerve ablation in my right hip joint. Has anyone out there had one?

Do folks here like Dr Dex? Is the only issue that he's expensive?

Uhhh.....the opiates such as Oxycodone and Hydrocodone aren't imported....they're made right here in the USA.

Bjc, dam my heart just breaks for you. Idk of a doc that does nerve ablation but I do know of a docs that offers all new sorts of treatment. What type of insurance do you?

If You are taking 60mgs of Methadone along w/ Oxycodone the 2 aren't really compatable. Methadone above 20mgs a day block the effects of other opiates.

BONNIE...I agree with you on Dex. Like I said he's an acquired taste.. For someone like me who has tried every modality with no success I appreciate just getting my meds. He tells you our previous docs have done us a great disservice by putting us on such levels of meds making what we are on essentially less helpful. I've been going for a year and he gives me what I need and stays with what you are on if you want to. He won't go up unless your on very low doses and they are not working. And yes after the initial consult fee it comes our to $160 a month and you get post dated rx for the next month so you only need to go every other month. I'd be interested in hearing from other patients of his.

If Dr Dex and Dr Lincoln were in a contest for most compassionate doctor, who would win?

I agree with the Oxycodone statement. I actually found out that as far as personally, Oxycodone leaves way to many receptor sites open, but 29 broken bones, including 4 total joint replacements due to broken joints...is gonna find any available open sites, and put me through living hell. I know they quit making them a while back...but this accident occurred on Oct. 25th, 2001...but I'm the only person I've ever known or even heard about that received prescriptions for OxyContin 160.. 3 per day, or every 8'hours....and 1 or 2-8 mg hydromorphone tablets every 4 to 6 hrs. And that was when I came home nearly 2 months after the accident...the best thing had to be getting home to my KING SIZED comfy bed, and all my TV channels.... But my Lord, with the Rehab....even with the pain mgmt. Dr. I was seeing, was hell. I believe I was the only person I knew of that he didn't urine check, nothing. Course the first time he saw me I was in a comatose state, and nearly a whole body cast, 5 and a half ft. Of scars. Methadone us a great pain med, but 20 mg....if far from enough to block other opioids. After a year I quit taking everything, got sick as a dog, and then just HAD to figure out what made me sick, and ended up getting a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselors Cert...then I wanted to work specifically with opioid addiction, and got a Certified Addiction Specialist Cert. I work with a lot of Methadone patients and have taken it a few times through the years for pain....it covers the receptor sites A LOT better than Oxycodone Hcl...in the State of Tennessee...the TBI gas taken control of Physician Prescription monitoring so aggressively, they've scared the hell out of the Drs... And Pain Patients have transferred to Methadone Treatment Facility....Knox has 2 of those, Nashville like 4 and Memphis bout the same...Chattanooga, being in the Tenn.,Ala.,and Georgia borders, literally I mean, we now have 6..they are simple to transfer to...and this ISN'T a commercial...I don't work for them, I'm actually a Bail/Fugitive Recovery Agent, that people I've bailed out, and aren't ready to quit, I'll send them to one of them, and they then tell me it saved their lives....AND FAMILIES!!! Do whatever you need to, just to locate some normalcy in your lives...

The place that I got referred to told me that. They aren't shut down. The DEA is messing with my doctor. They have some docs filling in.

I don't know Dr. Lincoln but from what I've heard he is probably more compassionate than Dex. Yes he's good for patients who have tried everything else only to fail and find that medication is the only thing it works. And he helped me out when I lost my PCP and wrote me a script that I normally would get from the PCP and gave me lots refills too, and I never asked I just told him that those meds would not come up on my U/A in my care of it. And going every other month with Scripts in hand for the next month is a major plus for me. But if you're looking for inj. and any other modalities he would not be the one for you so it really depends on what you're looking for and he suits me perfectly. Except for the cost of coarse and having Medicaid and recently declared officially disabled and having to come up with $320 every other month Plus I pay $150 for 75 µg patches because I am on 175. Medicaid declares it as too long acting. Many will only cover one long acting medicine. It's crazy because the only reason I take two patches it because they don't come in higher doses so we have to make two doses to equal what I need. So in the end I am paying $300 a month and my disability check is $550. I know it's going to be supplemental but then they lowered my Quest amount by $100 to fix their formula. Any ideas as to how I can get more money? I love to work, I want to work but I've only been able to work a couple of days a week and I do bookkeeping for several clients and there are many due dates that I have to meet even if I'm not well. Then they told me I could make up to 1100 a month, so 1500 a month when rent is now sky-high is basically putting me homeless at some point apparently. I gave you a very long answer to a very short question. I hope that it works out either way. Please let me know via this site. Godspeed.

Phoenix, thank you for replying, //I was going to go to Cedars Sinia in L.A. but got a blood clot, well 2.one in each lung,,almost done with meds to get rid of them. I would like to find a Dr. in Denver or Boulder area...I know that Comprehensive pain in Front range area does them, but I felt the Dr. was very young and no compassion, and not personable(understanding)...yes open to any recommendations...thanks again Medicare/Medicaid...spinal cord injury

Bjc, the opinions on Dex vary considerably like Lucy stated. Feels very temporary. When I was looking for my X, he quoted me 4bills and went to 6bills w/in 2days. Just struck me as seedy and temporary but some ppl are happy that are his patients.
He also has a blood clot that formed and broke away in his leg that went to his lungs. However, the doc he's seeing offers many treatment options including medication but the breadth of his knowledge made us big fans. $2/copay is great too. My hubby was on the Olympic team for fencing back in the day. 2mo before wedding 20+yrs ago he was T-boned when car ran light, 65mph. One hip is higher than the other and shifted forward and the nerve issues are ridiculous. All his discs are bone on bone. We weren't looking for more of the same. Most of us had become accustomed of docs that wrote a script, spent 5min w/us and skipped the exam altogether and charge whatever they want (like cpr). These types of docs are getting shut down left & right.

This doc is compliant and has the extra certification of PM training. We have a comfort level with his knowledge, compassion, treatments available on premises at his office, and excellent service and care to medicaid patients which is unheard of right now. It's evident the entire system has all but discarded medicaid/care patients. I tried over 20 docs and IF they accepted medicaid patients they only did inj's. or they only offered meds. No doc I called offered everything this one does.

First time in two decades we were given hope that his condition can improve immensely with the right treatments, not just different ain't medicine, but treatments. After one week, he has more mobility than hes had in years. How many ppl can say that? And when you feel hopeless and someone completely changes your pov with new information that you get, after 20yrs, well we're sold.

Jet mech, don't you see a specialist for your knees? Do you have a specialist recommendation for bjc? He has medicaid.

Lastly, as far as cpr, Colorado ain't relief, stay away from that place unless you're just looking for Meds and no treatment. That's where many ppl ended up when no one was taking medicaid. Then the doc was accused of wrong doing by a patient and the practice lost a doc that could take care of patients. Ppl are posting the doors are open again. I was never a fan of this place but after seeing the way they handled the debacle was terrible. Patients were told to go to their primary care docs or the ER. And that's if you could get through. It wasn't the 1st time and doubtful it will be the last time. Furthermore, pharmacies will not work with them and they're commonly known as a pill mill to the rest of the medical community.

Kaiser pm dept that is open now. Never was impressed with Kaiser but it's an option.

I've heard good things about the mapleton facility. Good luck and let us know how it goes. The nerve ablation is hit or miss with ppl, perhaps combined with stretches and inj's. may increase relief considerably.

Yes, Mapleton is wonderful..but now only takes Medicaid if you are a Boulder County resident.

PHOENIX...thanks for taking the time to give us so much good information. I agree with you about CPR..STAY AWAY. Iats horrible the way they treated you guys. Basically I could not have said it better myself.

FOR THE NEWBIES - READ PHOENIX'S POST

This post answers most relevant questions. I know some dr's names are not listed but if you take the time to read back all the dr's names will be named. I don't mean to sound like a b**** but I find it offensive when someone new pops on just asking for a doctor. We are more than happy to share our experiences (both good and bad) saving you a ton of time and potential money. Many of us take alot of time to share those experiences and I feel the least you can do is read back as far as you can and then asking a great question like "which one is more compassionate?" That is a question I'm happy to take the time to give my input but I feel it is unfair of you to ask us to repeat what has been said in many many posts. So sit down on your fave place, pen or phone in hand, read back as far as you need to determine which option is best for you, then if you want to post, great. We welcome ALL, no judgments and many of us love to help those of you need it but for the love of God, do yourself and us a favor, and read past posts firsts. There, I had to get that off my chest.

Also would love to hear back from people who have been helped out by this site...I personally would love to know what and how your experience ended up being. That kind of information is invaluable. The more docs/clinics we can have up our sleeve is helpful to everyone. Thanks and God Speed.
