Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 245)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Rainbow, YES honey, this doc does it ALL including the scripts. No, hubby did not stay on the same amount. Listen Rain, I'm smack in the middle of separation too. I left hubby in June after 20+ years. In large part due to his inability to take care of himself much less a kid in elementary school and one in his last year of HS. He was on huge amounts like 3x that of medicaid's allotted 120mg equivalent law. But my hubby was nearly entirely w/out any medication including ZaneX which he's finally realized is a very bad drug. It's the double whammy when you take 4-6mg of that every day along with pain meds the w/d is scary and in his case only life threatening b/c he was having almost like little seizures and he has a giant blood clot in his legs so we were both flipped out over this.

Also, Wendy will work with you and your current doc is my doc too, I'm sure he will understand that and be happy to write you a referral. What I would do is talk to him and setup an appt with new doc and one with current doc after you speak with current doc. He may write you a referral after which you can see new doc. If your impressed, you can stay with new doc and call your current doc and cancel follow-up appt you made with him and let him know you're going stick with new doc. He will not charge you if you cancel before 24hrs. That way you save the 2bills for seeing him this month. You don't take much from what I gather from your post so this will certainly benefit you from a cash flow point of view honey. But also benefit you physically. He really knows his s*** Rainbow. My hubby is awful on stretches and all that but this guy explained what those stretches do and why they're Key to loosening his lower back and relieving the sciatic issues. He's so stiff and inflexible he could barely lift his leg onto the table. My hubby lost 20lbs this month being off meds. He thinks it was the xanax that slowed his metabolism and made him so bloated. I thought it was his BP medication but I think he's right about xanax doing it. We both have peace of mind that his hearts not going to give out and that's invaluable to me.

Hello all, I'd like to say to everyone that asked about this new doc if he keeps you on your meds or switches the answer is this--- how the heck can anyone answer that??? If someone is happy with a new doc obviously they're getting what they need. In this case I'm saving 2 bills a month AND actually making progress. It's a very different experience ppl. I tried to tell everyone that. So don't get so hung up on the meds or ask questions or one can answer b/c no one knows what you take but you!

For everyone's reference and hopefully clarification, this doc is a REAL PAIN MGMT DOC that services medicaid patients. They will take care and COVER practically everything!!! My hubby is comfortable and so all knows he was well over 300mg of oxy and morphine a day in addition to 4-6mg of xanax and 4 300mg soma daily. That's enough to tranq a horse!!! The more pain meds a person takes the more pain receptors the body generates. Therefore, the very medicine that supposed to make you not feel the pain makes your brain generate even more pain receptors so the body can sense when it gets hurt.

Review: og Wendy's doc does scripts in addition to all the other services in mentioned. I've NEVER had the experience of finding a real pm doc that writes scripts AND all this other stuff including adjustments. We just haven't had good service since we've had medicaid for the past 3yrs. It's a shocker!!! Heck, it's a miracle somebody in the medical community stepped up and did it right for a change instead of dumping all their patients receiving cashing in on ppl that can't afford it like Dr Dex. That guy is ridiculous and what he charges should be a big Red flag to ppl. Doc's like dex will be shut down sooner rather than later b/c the DEA has a magnifying glass on our state right now.
So stop asking and worrying about the medicine. I know that's impossible but keep in mind if ppl like myself and Wendy tell you we are over the moon thrilled to see him, save a car payment monthly, get meds, and get all sorts of real treatment makes us functioning again so we can work, go to school and take care of our families then take that information and make a dam decision. Don't keep asking what he will do for you b/c it will only be a guess. The only way to answer that is go see him. Wendy will work with y'll like she did me so stop sweating it. The docs great and I doubt anyone has been treated this well and offered so many services and full spectrum of treatment modalities. Is everyone clear now? I'll answer any questions anyone has. Also, Wendy is having trouble posting. I did too yesterday so keep that in mind.

----PHOENIX--- I have found a specialist that I just started seeing last Tuesday. What is interesting is the Dr that I'm seeing now, has done the same for me as you described from the "OG WENDY" Dr. He is working with me to get a resolution to my chronic pain. He has done x-rays and is working to find a solution to my pain. He understood the my pain and described my areas effected. Even describing other emotional side effects because of the injury. I was blown away how he nailed everything that I'm going thru because of my injury/pain. I go twice a week to get injections on my lower back. And after the injections I go stand shoeless on that HERTZ machine. He puts it on 18mhz for 10 minutes to help the medicine that is injected to spread better. He has kept me on the same medication that I was receiving from Dr Frisbee at CPR. Although he did lower my medication amounts. But with the injections and chiropractor that is also on site my pain is actually lowered. The specialist that I go to and the "OG WENDY" Dr sound like there the same person or long lost brothers! Ha ha. I was sent to him from my primary Dr. I was nervous about having to go to a new Dr not knowing what to expect. But I'm glad to have been referred to him and finally have a Dr that is working towards a solution to my pain. The Dr that OG WENDY has shared wouldn't happen to be located up north in the Lafayette/Louisville area will he? I'm asking because that's where my Dr is located. And how you describe him sounds exactly like my Dr, to the "T". I'm glad that y'all have found a resolution to the HELL that had been occurring. Will continue to look for updates on here. Also, I think some ppl asking about the "OG WENDY" Dr are looking for another Dr that just wants to write scripts and send you on your way.

-----MEL----- WHO WAS YOUR PAIN CLINIC? Have you heard as to why they were shut down? I know that the DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY has been really cracking down on clinics. So any infraction reported will have them jumping at the opportunity to go into a place with the objective of shutting the pain clinic down.

123DIY, I'm so happy you're in good hands. It does sound incredibly similar (wink), that's all I'm going to say on that note b/c I agree with you that there are some that hop on then off this site looking for their next doctor. I'm happy where I am and I'm very happy where hubby ended up. I think his pain levels will be lowered over the next 30 days and I'm really looking forward to his new level of mental clarity.

I'm really happy you ended up in good hands 123diy. It's mind blowing to have a real doc accurately diagnose you isn't it? That right there let me know this was the real deal and hubby could actually get his life back.

No Frank, we are very far from "ok" here. I'd say it's already bad and sliding to worse as I speak. The dea5is in town actively on a witch hunt for every single doctor that's providing care. Meducaid released a new low dose amount as the max amount. Many patie5will not fit into that category but we make good guinea pigs to see if it will fly. They say there are more prescription medication related deaths. I think it's b/c they even created a black market and ppl who have lost their docs are doing crazy stuff which include going to the streets and paying for lord knows what. They've inaccurately diagnosed a problem hey helped create with their back assward approach. I don't think there is a good state anymore Frank. Hopefully our doc is tapering you down and you aren't xpected to go thru withdrawal or several weeks then lose mobility after that. But we do green medicine legal here so in that way we're better off. Also, there's medicinal pot grown for pain only that doesn't et you high so you can function during the day. Good luck Frank. Just start calling all the pain mgmt docs in your state and you'll find a new doctor. I called over 25 docs looking for one for my hubby here in CO. it took over a month so if you were given a months notice then you will find someone.

Hello Liltc65, welcome to CO and this little forum where we share our experiences, discuss new legislation, and support each other in this turbulent time of big govt trying to turn us to socialism instead of democracy by making decisions for us and passing laws we did NOT vote for! Whew, my apologies just had to get that out.

We haven't found a good way to share information liltc65. Unfortunately, past experience as demonstrated when a good doctors name is posted their office is immediately flooded with so many new patients that they end up shutting their doors entirely and stop doing pain mgmt. So we do not put names on here. Also, we can't share contact info so it's even harder. But if it's injections your after your in luck b/c nearly every "pain mgmt" doctor has turned to injections as their cash solution and they've made arrangements to cover injections for medicaid patients. Unfortunately, that's all they offer in most cases. But my in laws are still pushing hard for him to see a pain mgmt doctor at Kaiser in their new pain mgmt dept that officially opened November 1st (yesterday). They've been with Kaiser for 15yrs and my mother in law has had 2 knee replacement surgery and several falls where she busted her rotator cup in her, shoulder and tore the bicep muscle and couldn't if the her arm. Of course Kaiser bought and paid the federal govt for the lucrative reward of managing pain patients. Furthermore, there is a pain mgmt doctor in Colorado Springs hat one man has recommended who lives there. I was going to drive down there for my hubby but this appt was faster. My point is that doc in the springs took medicaid also. You can scroll back to September 20th posts and read until the end and you'll find this springs doc and a couple other good doc names b/c one of the largest pain mgmt was shut down unexpectedly so everyone was looking. I hope this gives you a good starting point. Let us know how it goes for you. Again, welcome.

123diy, yes similar new doc for hubby in Boulder. Maybe it's a trial balloon they're floating with this new approach or pm docs.
Apologies for my many typos. I henpeck quickly so I hope y'll can decipher the text.

Rainbow, Hang in there GF, this divorce may be a blessing in disguise. You don't want to be with someone that takes off on you in the middle of their midlife crisis. A couple years from now he'll probably come crawling back but you'll be doing, feeling and looking amazing so you can tell him no matter where he goes, he always has to take himself, there's no escaping that reality. So he'll continue to be a miserable sob.

Pheonix I also want to say, great post in reply to someone I can't remember the name, it was posted at 6 am this morning. Awesome that you are helping me, cuz it's too far for me to travel any further than I do to see Mr. L, I need to stay secure there, we don't need an overload of seekers ..have a good day!! Glad all went well w Medicaid Dr., I would love to get some facet injections , I'm still looking for chiropractic care!! I think I'm onto something
Lastly and more importantly I'm going to caps this The DEA WANTS TO CUT THE PRODUTION OF OPIODS IN 2017 THERE IS A PETETION PLEASE ALL POSTERS SIGN THIS...THIS WILL AFFECT OUT PHARMACIES IMMEDIATELY IF PASSED!! Idk the link but I'm going to find it and post it

My goodness I can't find the link for you to just click, But The FDA plans to cut opioid production by 25%, including hydrocodone. They want to make even less. Google the info, but after Please sign the petition, it has not had enough signatures.

Rainbow: I would not be surprised if the prices were going up because of the increase in calls for appointments.

They're supposed to cut the amount of opiates coming into the United States by at least 25% for the year 2017. I also have been reading how there's a petition being pushed to eliminate and outlaw Oxycodone in the United States. People are not trying to understand why people are even having to be prescribed opiates in the first place. It's REFER MADNESS all over again. What's worse is by the DEA really cracking down on pain clinics and doctors not wanting to prescribe opiates is making people who never did any street narcotics to turn to HEROIN. I know of 3 people that have started doing heroin because they were cut off of there opiate prescription. So now there's going to be an epidemic of heroin addicted people in the USA.......

Rainbow, personally I think they raise their prices b/c they know they can. Supply and demand ya know? I also believe it signals how comfortable the practice feels. If they feel it's only a matter of time like Dr Dex, he raised his prices from 4 bills to 6 bills on the initial intake appt. That sends a big red flag to me that they feel their practice is temporary and he better make bank while he can.

Chaos, thank you for your kind words. Yes, you're correct bout the new amount which was 120mg max morphine equivalent so they picked the least effective to base this on. I'll certainly locate and sign the petition. I didn't know about the petition so thanks for the info on this.

Here is some info from the DEA / Federal Register:

"The DEA received one comment from a DEA-registrant and three comments by non-DEA registered entities regarding the proposed removal of the additional 25% of the estimated medical, scientific, and research needs for the United States. Two of the commenters requested that the DEA continue to include the additional 25%, one commenter requested transparency in the process of setting aggregate production quotas, and the last commenter agreed with the DEA that the additional 25% should not be included in aggregate production quotas values. The DEA has considered these comments, as well as the ones for specific controlled substances and ephedrine (for sale), in establishing the 2017 aggregate production quotas and assessment of annual needs."
