Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone (Page 20) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

Not hardly.. Has to be a pretty certain set if circumstances. Ridiculous I've bben on both 15 years w no issues except actual relief..god forbid
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Per your state rules & regs, you can get methadone from your regular doctor or from a pain mgmt doctor.
Re: Pam (# 4)
Not nessarily - any doctor can prescribe methadone with a DEA number, some states are backwards though and put patients through hell getting it!
Re: chad (# 10)
I've been taking methadone with Ativan for 16 years. Works great for diabetic peripheral neuropathy and anxiety.
Re: chad (# 12)
Try Alaska! Been under pain mgmt for 16 yrs and have had no problem.
Re: Jason (# 14)
You are correct except Suboxone doesn't work for nerve pain. Methadone works great for that! And if taken as prescribed, you can take benzos too. I have, for 16 years.
Re: chad (# 10)
Misinformation!
Re: chad (# 10)
This isent always true as I k kw peoe on bensos and have been going to the methadone clinic for years. If u were on them for a serious reason sometimes they make an exception, but not often
Re: chad (# 12)
Not true !! All methadone is the same be it tabs or liquid or pills !
Re: Verwon (# 1)
thanx for stating that one cannot be prescibed methadone prescription from a physicians office. All this bull about methadone scripts for addiction.
Re: Lynn (# 6)
That is not true, I had a doctor in Portland prescribing me methadone 120 a month and he called in my script to the pharmacy every month, he never called me in for a appointment once.
Try SUBOXON. I was on strong strong strong pain Meds for 3 years, breakfast lunch and diner! I went to methadone when I wanted to quit- WORST MISTAKE EVER! Do not EVER use methadon, THE COME DOWN/ WITHDRAWAL IS SO MUCH WORSE and can last for months, NO JOKE! Mine lasted for almost 2 months! But then I got on SUBOXON! AND IT SAVED MY F****** LIFE! It makes you feel normal again, like before you took that first pill. It takes the craving away completely, NO WITHDRAWAL, no kicking, none of the terrible stuff you dread and someone how totally takes the thought that you need pills away idk how to explain it. Best part, if for some reason you don’t have any or miss a day or two or decide to quit, headache and nausea is THE WORST OF THE WITHDRAWAL- for me anyways. I’ve been taking it now for 2 YEARS AND IVE NEVER LOOKED BACK! It’s a godsend
Methadone is terrible and from experience they won’t allow you to do benzos with the methadone either for fear of heart failure. But! If you really wanna try, go to a methadone clinic, strictly a methadone clinic and tell them you want to start methadone and the counselors there will get you transferred and onto the methadone from SUBOXON.
Can I please tell you something? I’ve been getting prescribed methadone along with oxycodone, and you might want to do some research, because Suboxone is nothing —and I mean nothing— like methadone. Suboxone is used to get off opioids. Methadone, nowadays, is used to treat heroin addiction, along with fentanyl, which some states have as a substitute for heroin. It kills many, many people. But I just wanted to say, methadone is a very strong, long-lasting pain medicine that was made back in the '50s. I don’t want to say by whom, but it's the worst person in American history, and his name begins with an "H". His scientists created that for people in the war so they could fight longer, and he was also taking it. But back to the point—you might want to try to stay on Suboxone, or try to get Subutex instead of Suboxone or methadone, because I have been on methadone for many years, and it is very hard to get off of, probably more than any other drug in the world. It’s a very long withdrawal. I’m sure you know if you have taken it before. But don’t compare that to Suboxone because they’re nothing alike. Only pain management doctors can write prescriptions for methadone in my state. Primary care physicians used to write it for me, but now pharmacists will not fill it if it’s not from a certified pain management doctor. I just wanted to tell you, they are not alike in any form. You might want to try Subutex and see if they will write that for you because that doesn’t have the same ingredient as Suboxone. I just wanted to let you know they are nothing alike. Just do your research and use Google, and you’ll get every answer that you’re looking for. Good luck.
And I just wanted to add, it is very hard to get any benzos while you are on methadone. It is a deadly combination, benzodiazepine and methadone combined. Suboxone is much safer if you want to take your anxiety medication, but it’s very hard to get both methadone and benzos at the same time.
Re: Kristie (# 418)
That’s good to hear because after years of taking it gets into your bones and is probably one of the worst withdrawals anybody could ever go through. Just be careful and you are okay now. Glad you didn’t suffer a long time because sometimes it takes months depending on your dose of methadone before you start feeling better and it takes two years for you to start sleeping like you were since it was only short term taking it. 160 mg is a pretty high dose for methadone at a clinic. I think your body was telling you something when you weren’t feeling good from taking it. I get scared to death sometimes and I’ve been going to a pain management doctor for over 10 years now, and I was only getting Methadone at first, and then he put me on high a high dose of oxycodone because of a really bad car accident I was in, but I never asked for it and now I regret ever taking one oxycodone. You know how doctors are. They're the biggest drug dealers out there and a lot of them are on at their practice making people suffer who need medication no matter what the medication is! Glad you’re feeling better. God Bless and best of luck!
Jason, U are right. It used to be that every woman who told her doctor she was upset or couldn't sleep would walk out with a script for Valium or the like. It's very different today. When a doctor prescribes anything for anxiety in anybody it's usually an anti-depressant. No narcotics anymore. Besides, if U want Methadone, which blocks any narcotic effects from drugs, the Benzo your asking for is not going to work like it should for U anymore anyway. So why want it ?. Unless your gonna sell it ? Shame on U !!
Some doctors will still prescribe both together, but they are the bad ones out there. They could care less if U kill yourself with drugs. They're just out there to collect as many patients as they can, to bring in the money. Specially if U pay them cash !!
My last doctor did that. She continued to see & write scripts for anyone who paid her cash. But if U had health coverage she tossed U out. I watched many couples of all ages going into her for scripts the same day, and they got them. ALL paid her cash and most came from out of state too. Some drove in on motorcycles. If your in that much pain, how can U stay on a bike for that long to get to a doctor, and survive the pain ?
They sure didn't look like they were in any pain to me.
After seeing this going on...I knew she would eventually toss me out & she did. It was only a matter of time. I wanted to report her, but didn't know where or how to. I did tell my current doctor who she was & what she was doing tho. Maybe he will report her ?
Also....If a Methadone clinic insists U have to pay them with cash every day to get your "liquid fix", (and they do...) the doctors must know U have access to a lot of cash to pay them. The one near me charges $65. a day, cash. Plus a $250. fee for the 1st appt..And U go in every week without fail or they toss U out. U are drug tested every week also, or they toss U out. U cannot take other drugs from other doctors while receiving liquid Methadone.
Those clinics are expensive too !! I can't afford it. But I'm also not an addict. When I was without my meds for weeks....a doctor suggested to try to go to one. But I have health coverage and they won't accept that.
I'm glad I never went there. Don't need to have "ADDICT" posted all over my records !!
Seems like a double edge sword to me ?
Personally I preferred the narcotic for anxiety tho, since I didn't need to take it every day. I hate anti-depressants. I feel they are more dangerous than the other drugs and no matter what they say about it not being addictive, it almost is because U cannot stop taking them without severe consequences. That's even worse in my mind, than some Valium or Xanax that U take once in a while, on your bad days. But who am I to say. I'm no doctor. I just know how stuff works on me or not.
Anti-depressants can be just as dangerous as narcotics. Read all the info U can b-4 just taking your doctor's word for it. I've suffered some severe, permanent disabilities from using anti-depressants earlier in my life. Never again !!
I just get so disgusted at those who abuse narcotics because those are the people who ruin it for those who are truly in pain & in need of strong medicine.
U have a backache ? Try exhausting all other treatments, like using a heating pad ,some warm baths & massage, physical therapy or chiropractor. It may help. Don't need major drugs all the time. Only if it's uncontrollable pain should U even go near that stuff.
Many times it's so easy to just pop a pill to feel better. And some doctors support that. But in the long run...it will only cause U problems later.
If U learn to rely on the stronger medications, U will never be able to get off of them. Your stuck for life !! Why should U be, if something simpler will relieve your pain enuff to get U to function again.
Anyone in severe intractable pain will feel lots better taking the stronger meds. But they have no choice really. They need some relief or they have no life.
I can even understand how some get desperate enuff to ask dealers on the street for their meds. When your suffering from so much pain U can barely move, where else do U turn ? I guess if U can come up with the money...U can get almost anything U want. I'd just be afraid they'd pass off some bad stuff on me & I'd wind up dead !! No thanks. I like living, even if most of it sucks !!
