Is it true that HCTZ (and equivalents) can CAUSE hypertension? ## It really depends on what you are going to consider as causing it. If someone doesn't have hypertension or has stage one hypertension, will it give them a severe and permanent case? The answer to this is no! The way these medications can cause someone's blood pressure to raise is by their effect on Potassium in the body. They can cause it to leech out, so the person doesn't have enough and, this in turn, can cause their blood pressure to become elevated, because Potassium is essential to the proper regulation of it. However, it is remedied by simply replacing the potassium and/or discontinuing the medication. My bottle says Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg and Mfg: West Ward, but the pills are peach color with 4 0 on one side and 1011 on the other side. Is this a correct fill? ## NO! You should return to the pharmacy and report this immediately. The tablet marked 1011 40 contains 40mgs of Citalopram, which is an antidepressant.
